(Yes I know I keep dnfing but I have too many books on my tbr to finish a book I don't enjoy😅)
Not a fan. I never once like the hero and he was too manh*e-ish and cocky for me, so much so that it was a bit creepy. He was constantly talking about how it was with other hook-ups and what he likes with them, and it just made the heroine seem no different than any other hook up, and there being no chemistry between them, made it worse.
I do like how the heroine is more sexually experienced, but again, her taste in guys and how she keeps going for the douche-y ones (Hero included) after what happened to her with the first guy- made her seem dumb and it was really hard to connect with her. Everyone warns her against the hero because of how gross he is and her past with men, and heroine just brushes them all off (and even gets mad at her brother when he just doesn't want her to make the same mistake again). She was such a brat and the hero is just gross.
Both of them seemed to only care about each other's looks. Very superficial and immature. Their thought process and the banter was annoying too. All they could think about was sex or being turned on, or the hero constantly thinking about the supposed revenge. These two just seemed like those cliche idiotic manh*e jock and cheerleader who only sleeps with football players (although shes not a cheerleader, I think) characters in movies that only care about looks and getting it on with anyone and making the same mistakes all over again. The banter was also boring and repetitive, and maybe if there was some humor or something to spice it up or make it more entertaining, I could have kept on, but I was just so bored for how long this book is 🙄
Safety up to 50% (and then skimmed a little after)
No virgins
Hero is a manh*e, heroine is seemingly experienced (they both like each other like that apparently)
Ow drama- didn't get far enough, but hero flirts with a ow at the beginning, and constantly thinks of past hook ups
Om drama- heroine's ex took some naked photos of her during sex without her knowing and posted it online, it does cause some drama later
As far as sports-related college-age romances go, this one was just okay in some parts, and other parts were just dumb and childish without much depth or development -- nothing extraspecial or out of the ordinary. I didn't especially feel any deep connection with either of the main characters. I could have done without half of the sexual encounters between them -- and the dialogue at times made me want to gag.
If you like your men cocky with a capital 🍆 then look no further than Cal McAdam. Cal is someone who is definitely used to getting what he wants, and his determination to regain his Quarterback spot back on the college football team, coupled with seducing his biggest rival’s younger sister is top of his list. But whether or not he succeeds is another question...
Cal McAdam is used to being the star quarterback for his college football team but that all changes when Gray Kilpatrick transfers and takes over his position....so what better way to distract him for playing his best game then to start dating his sister. What's the worst that cohld happen?
Piper Kilpatrick has had to come back home and transfer to her local college after dealing with some trouble at her previous school. All she wants to do is start fresh and focus on her studies so she can get out of there as soon as possible. She doesn't have time for dating or anything else for that matter, but that doesn't stop Cal from pursuing her 😊.
I found this book to be alot of push and pull between the two MC"s. They knew they were attracted to eachother and were determined to just have a little fun but found themselves constantly at battle with their feelings and struggling to understand if the other person might want more. Piper was so fucused on studying 24/7 that she sometimes took Cal for granted and he found it hard at to try to talk her into having little fun and to just let go every once in a while. Cal set out to date Piper so he could rile up her brother up as pay back for taking his spot on the team, he never realised he was going to enjoy spending so much time with her.
What do Piper and Cal do when they realise its becoming more than abit of fun and will Piper find out what Cal's original motives were for seeking her out?
I found it hard to connect to the MC's in this book unfortunately and I didn't feel like I could see the chemistry 😕
4.5 Stars ⭐️. Cal was in the book “Off Limits” and even though he was a huge jerk, I couldn’t wait for his story.
At first glance Cal finds himself enamored with Piper, she is the perfect amount of beautiful and feisty. Then he learns the unfortunate news that she is the younger sister of his new teammate and rival Gray Kilpatrick, and dating her could cause so many problems. Problems that are just tempting enough to cause, and a perfect way to get a little revenge against the guy that stole his starting spot on the team. The question is whether or not the weary beauty will give him a shot or not?
I loved Cal and Piper as a couple. The chemistry between them was of the charts. All of the characters are well developed and the banter between them is very realistic... especially all of the guys on the football team. This book made me laugh and swoon.. and I have no words for the steamy scenes. Next up is Piper’s brother, Gray. I can’t wait to read his story.
I am obsessed with this world, I absolutely adored Simon and Ellie's book, but this one was even better.
To be honest, I wasn't a fan of Cal for much of the last book – and I thought going into this one I might have had it already sussed out – boy, was I wrong.
Jerica showed his soft side quite early on in the picture and it had me rethinking my opinion about Cal. He wasn't the dudebro jerk I thought he was.
Piper totally stole the show—in my opinion—with her resistance, her stubborn steak, her sass and independence. She was lovable from the very beginning, a strong and resilient character.
Together? Absolute fire. Their chemistry was tangible – electric – off the charts. It's no surprise that feelings developed and whatever plans had been in play fell to the wayside.
I particularly enjoyed watching Gray and Cal get into it. The character development in this book surprised me but it was fabulous.
And the epilogue? *bites fist* I'mma need that story STAT. I can't even find words for the excitement I am feeling for the next book! Eeek!
Cal is the QB for his college football team until Gray transfers in & takes his spot. The draft is right around the corner, so Cal is definitely not happy about this so he comes up with a plan to try & get it back. Gray's sister Piper also transfers in as well, so he decides that he'll use her to knock Gray off his starting position. It doesn't sit well with me when dudes think using someone's sister to get their revenge to be honest since it's just gross. It doesn't matter that it will inevitably blow back on him in ways of the heart, it all started out with a lie, and Piper's transfer is because of some serious stuff. As far as I'm concerned, Piper had a whole lot of people who treated her wrong which I really hated & I felt my rage rising throughout. It only gets worse in my eyes when Cal lets it ride instead of fessing up, so will she forgive him when his dirty little secret comes out?! You'll have to hit those one click buttons to find out! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
This is the first book by this author. I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style and am looking forward to reading more of her work.
I loved this book so much. Piper is focused and independent. She doesn't need people and is totally content being on her own. Cal is a completely unique hero who stole my heart. He's a player type. He loves the ladies, but only for the night. I couldn't help but to swoon over his charm. These two have a chemistry that is off the charts and hotter than hot!
I cannot even explain this book, but you will not be sorry that you read it. Beautifully written and well worth the read.
After reading Off Limits, I know I need to read more of Jerica's books. I was excited but at the same time hesitant whether to read Cal's book at first. He was a jerk in Ellie and Simon's book. But I know he's going to fall for a strong woman that would put him in his place and redeem himself. Piper is the perfect woman for him. She was awesome from the start and definitely a match to Cal. Their story is such a great one that I'm sure you can’t put it down. Highly, highly recommended. I can't wait for the next book.
From first glance Cal finds himself enamored with Piper, she is the perfect amount of beautiful and feisty. Then he learns the unfortunate news that she is the younger sister of his new teammate and rival Gray Kilpatrick, and dating her could cause so many problems. Between the pages of Trick Play readers will meet an fiercely independent girl and the cocky football star that tricks her into loving him. It isn't an easy fall, as our heroine has trust issues and a scarred heart that she received from the last player to wander onto her path. So our hero definitely has his work cut out for him, she totally makes him work for her time and attention. Which is something that Cal is not use to, usually the girls fall at his feet. Which could be what drives him to be so persistent in gaining her trust, or it could be the fact that she is the first girl to tell him no. But once he gets a yes from her something shifts between them, and his plan takes a back seat to his feelings for her, but what will happen if the secret he is hiding finds the light of day?
This was such an captivating story, once my eyes found the words and I met these characters I didn't want to let them go until I knew every last detail about them. Their story gave the heartstrings a nice little hug and had me blushing a time or two... it was the perfect literary afternoon escape! Highly recommend!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
No spoilers given that I only made it to like 9%. Male lead is just a terrible person. He was pretty terrible in the first book in the series, so i didn’t have high hopes, but that was a decent book so I figured I’d give this one a shot. First of all, his so called “rival” who has wronged him is just a guy who is better than he is. In the first book he *thanks* his friend for intentionally letting the guy get hurt during a game. Simon didn’t do it on purpose, but Cal was totally fine with and appreciative of the idea that he might have. That’s repulsive. Then let’s talk about the idea of using a woman to get back at a guy. That’s reprehensible and just gross. Not to mention completely hypocritical given his whole issue in the first book and this one with guys on his team being terrible to his sister. He’s still upset about his teammate and his sister even though his teammate is actually a good person who cares about his sister and was never using her. Really Simon’s only fault seems to be his incomprehensible friendship with Cal. And then let’s talk about Piper. Sure, it sounds like she went through some bad stuff and I was considering sticking with this book to find out about her, but by the second time she berates her roommate for not wearing makeup or dressing girly I was done with her, too. Oh, also “Uh-oh. Is he one of those guys who thinks a girl’s disinterest is a challenge to be conquered? I can’t decide if that makes me dislike him more or worried I won’t be able to resist for long.” DISLIKE HIM!!! NOT TAKING NO FOR AN ANSWER IS GROSS AND RAPEY. Anyway, skipping the rest of this one and trying the next book. Dani and Autumn both have promise.
I really liked this book. This is a sports romance.
This story centers around a woman named Piper who is working hard to take extra classes to graduate early. She was hurt by her ex-boyfriend who posted nude photos of her online without her knowledge and showed them to his friends. Nothing was done to bring justice for what happened to her.
Piper was transferred to a college. Her brother is a football player at the same college. Her brother is a real jerk to his sister as well as her parents. They treat her as if she is a screw up who did something wrong. She ends up meeting a football player named Cal McAdam who is a real player on and off the field. He sees a way to get back at her brother for getting a spot on the team that he wanted by messing with his sister. Piper is hesitant to date Cal but quickly they end up sleeping together and hooking up. Cal doesn’t really consider Piper as a girlfriend more like a booty call. After a while he starts to fall for her. Piper hears that Cal was using her to get back at her brother which hurts her immensely. After what happened with her ex-boyfriend she feels betrayed by Cal. I didn’t want Piper to end up with Cal because I didn’t feel that he took his relationship with Piper seriously. I didn’t like how Piper’s brother treated his sister like she was stupid and didn’t know how to handle her life. I also didn’t like how her parents treated her like she was the screw up in the family. I felt bad for Piper in how she was treated by people. I felt that she could have ended up with someone better than Cal. I did like Piper in how she stood up for herself to her brother and her parents. This was a good book.
I put the first book of the series down and immediately went to KU to put this on my kindle even though I really didn't have the time to read this. I just didn't want it to fall down my ever-growing TBR and be overlooked. Then we got struck down with a stomach bug and this was an awesome audible addition to lie in bed with.
In the last book I really didn't like Cal. And he started this book true to form, as a selfish, immature jerk who couldn't see past himself. So when he set out to win over Piper to upset her brother I wanted him to get a solid kick in his footballs. The only saving grace was that Piper didn't take him too seriously.
And it wasn't long before the chemistry between them overflowed into actual emotions. Or for Cal to pull his head out and realise was an idiot. The fact that under all that stupid was a good guy who was just letting his hurt run the show, helped immensely. Along with his anger over everything that Piper had been through.
I really enjoyed the story. The drama was perfect for the book and made the whole thing really easy to read and listen to. And now I'm going to go back and read the epilogue because I'm sure it's going to have me adding another book to my kindle.
Love these football books! I’m not a super fan of the sport but I really like sports romances. This one was different which made it a lot more enjoyable. This is another new author that I discovered and she is great! So I’ll be definitely reading more by her in the near future. Cal is the team’s star QB until a douche comes in and steals the starting position from him. Obviously pissed he decides to go after the sister of the douche. Well that of course doesn’t go as planned because he falls for her and of course she hates him for using her. This is ten times worse for Piper because the reason her and her brother transfer schools is because she got into some hot water at the last school she was attending. Her stupid ex had a compromising video of her and him together and leaked it. She lost her mind and retaliated which got her booted out of the school to another school. Her brother being protective and all transferred with her to keep her away from dumb boys. So you could imagine when Piper and Gray find out that Cal is using her? Well. It doesn’t go well. The writing was awesome. The story was awesome. That’s all you need to know.
Loved Cal, despite his initial intent to get one over on Gray. His heart was beautiful.
Besides, Piper had more than her fair share of demons and bad luck. While I thought all the politics of Gray reaping all the rewards as starting QB without even beating Cal for it with stats and some sort of contest, fair and square, the way the new coach handled it was pretty dirty, especially since Cal had sacrificed and worked hard for his position. Gray was blessed with natural talent, but you can't tell me it wasn't possible for the coach to use both Gray and Cal. It would have at least eased Cal's resentment and kept him from being bitter. That Cal still made great, positive choices when it most counted said a lot about his strength of character and amazingly huge heart. I did not view Gray in the same way. Life during his senior year was most unfair to Cal, and Gray wasn't the nicest about things. So, good story, and I say that only because Cal ends up with a happy for now. Five stars.
So the first half I seriously struggled with and came close to quitting several times. I did however like Cal and wanted to see how the story ended. Piper I had a hard time liking. I didn’t care for her at all in the beginning and I wasn’t a fan of her playing the hard to get game with Cal. There were times I found her annoying and irritating. Did I like her in the end? I’m not sure honestly. Did I end liking the book? Sort of. After the 60-65% point it got a little better. I wasn’t planning on reading the next book, but after the epilogue I’m kinda curious to see what happens with Piper’s brother and his reaction when he learns he has a 3 year old son he never knew about. I’m really hoping Tiffany had a good reason for not telling him because one of my biggest pet peeves with the secret baby trope is when the girls excuse is I just didn’t want to tell him or some other incredibly selfish reason for keeping a guys kid from him.
This book was very enjoyable and definitely seemed like your typical college “player” romance. I flew through this one really fast but not really in a good way. I wasn’t too invested in the characters or the plot and honestly just wanted to finish reading it.
I thought football would play a bigger part in the book but sadly there was barely any at all. Compared to the last book I read, which was also a football romance, I felt like this was lacking a lot in the football realm which took off a star.
The romance again was enjoyable but I don’t think it was anything special which sucks to say. I had high hopes for this as a football romance but overall it just seemed pretty average to me. I read this only a couple days ago and I can’t even remember enough about it to write this review.
I thought the first book of Simon and Ellie and her football big brother Cal, was great! And then I read Trick Play! Now Cal finds himself in a similar relationship with a rivals sister! Love these books! Medical Macmillan does such a could job of structuring her books thru the thoughts of her characters! Read it! You won't be disappointed, especially with the action between the sheets!
Once again these books are a delightful read with American football as a background. If you are not into sport, it won’t matter. As an Australian I like AFL as my football choice of footy, but reading about the restricted diet and training they have to abide by was interesting. All these books are stand alone but I like how their stories can follow a previous couple a little. Thank you. As I finish one story I just want to start the next one and I have… meaning worth my time to read and enjoy.
Trick Play By Jerica MacMillan Main Characters: Piper and Cal I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author. 5 out of 5 stars Cal is a QB and here comes new to the school Piper and her brother Gray who is also a QB. I loved the characters and the story. Great writing by Jerica MacMillan. Highly recommend you read this.
I’m not usually a fan of college/sports romances but once I got past the first few pages I was totally hooked and devoured this book. It was very clear Piper and Cal had feelings for each other early on so it wasn’t just sex-and they have a lot of sex-which doesn’t bother me.
✅ university MF ✅ jerk H turns around ✅ heroine not doormat ✅ betrayed h
This is a safe easy Sunday read. It had some great banter between characters and I liked that the h wasn’t a pushover. It’s a break from dark bully tropes. The classic H thinks he’s playing a game but falls hard instead and needs to win the girl back. HEA.
Thoroughly enjoyed this but did not know it was part of a series until I was already invested in the story. I loathe reading things out of order so read Off Limits first then Trick Play and then Unrivaled which comes out in October 2021 🙂.
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel from the first page until the very last. It has been a very rare occurrence that I could just pick up a book and read it in one day; but, I was captivated by these characters and their amazing love story instantaneously.
i read this after the first one and woah, this book was so much better then the first one. it was so easy to get into and i loved cal and piper. honestly this book was so good and i cant wait to read the next one!
So Cal believes he is the man until someone comes in and stills his thunder. The typical alpha gods gift to women thinks he will call the plays and get his spot. Little does he know that his sights have hit Piper, the feisty one. Piper steals the show in this one with her stubborn streak that gives Cal a run for this money. Definitely a smooth read for the banter between these two!
