Not So University #1

My [Not So] Slutty Professor

Rate this book
Maddie

I’m a sucker for nerds. So a biology professor who wears geeky ties and doesn’t realize how hot he is, puts every part of my body on high alert. It also means I’m failing his class. There’s only one way to get him out of my head so I can focus. Seduce him.

Turns out that boyish innocence isn’t an act, and while Dr. Reid Emerson is a genius, there are many things he’s never learned. His eagerness to catch up takes my breath away. Will he let me be the one to teach him?

Reid

Maddie Evans reminds me of every popular guy I’ve ever known: charming, persuasive, and used to getting exactly what he wants. But there’s a part of me—a part tired of being the only inexperienced person on campus—that doesn’t care. A flash of skin during our study sessions sparks a fire I can’t put out. I want Maddie. And I want him to teach me…everything.

We strike a deal that has me questioning my sanity, my ethics, and everything I ever believed in. I can’t resist him but being together is risky. Maddie could lose his spot in grad school, and I could lose the thing that keeps me going every day. Teaching.

Is this experiment doomed to fail or together can we pass the ultimate test of love and sacrifice?

My (Not So) Slutty Professor is a 71,000 word mm romance that involves cocky students, shy professors, meddling best friends, and lots and lots of ice cream. It is the first book in the My (Not So) Serious University series. It can be read on its own or as part of the series and has a HEA.

My Not So Slutty Professor is book one in the My Not So Serious University series by D.K. Sutton. This is my very first book by this author. I needed a taboo/forbidden romance for a reading challenge that was a little bit lighter than the usual and this one was perfect. Both characters in this book were absolutely “geekalicious!” My new very favorite word!

Professor Reid Emerson is a genius. He graduated high school at fourteen and had his doctorate by the age of nineteen. He is now doing what he dreamed of, teaching Forest Ecology at Southern Missouri State University. Being so much younger than his classmates growing up, Reid never fit in socially. He lacks in the normal social skills he needs to make connections with other people. Reid is loved by the students at the university. But it’s one particular student that is throwing Reid off balance. One particular student’s eyes he seeks out across the auditorium.

Maddox “Maddie” Evans is twenty two years old and is about two months away from graduating with his masters degree. He has applied for the doctorate program. Maddie is popular with everyone, and is a straight A student in every class except Professor Emerson’s. Because he can’t concentrate in that class since all he can see or think about is the sexy professor at the podium. Maddie has never gotten a B in his life and isn’t about to start now.

Maddie has never dated anyone more than twice. He just loses interest. He’s convinced that if he spends time with the sexy professor, that the same thing will happen and he’ll finally be able to concentrate. So they make a deal. Reid will help Maddie with his studies while Maddie helps Reid improve his social skills. But the plan didn’t work out well for either of these two.

Spending time together didn’t make Maddie want Reid less, it made him want him more. And it was obvious that Reid felt the same way. But if they acted on their attraction, they could both lose everything they had worked for. Is it a risk worth taking?

Both of these two were just so adorable. I seem to be developing such a thing for swoony, geeky characters. I loved them both. And of course, the story has to have an evil villain. Someone that wants to bring down the sweet professor.

If you want a fun, light read, then I highly recommend this. We get a little peek at the next book in the series, My Not So Grumpy Professor. I can’t wait to read it.

This is another one of those books that wasn't really a 4 stars book, but I enjoyed it so much that I just gave the 4 stars.

There were a lot of ott stuff happening, the guys at the beginning were portrayed only at a surface level so I didn't really like Maddie.

Then it changed and the characters showed depth, the story became more than just a horny dude trying to get a nerdy dude. It got interesting and enjoyable.

I still want to point out that "Sleeping with a student was against the rules. And the point of this rule was so professors didn’t take advantage of their students. There was an inherent power differential between professor and student. But I had no power over Maddie. He didn’t need to have sex with his professor to get a good grade. The man was brilliant. He’d caught up on all his work and was back up to an A-plus".

That's not true, Reid HAD power over Maddie he just never thought to use it that way, Maddie could have good results in his class and Reid could have chosen to change the scores. This point is shown with Oliver's character. So yeah this book was made by unicorns and had red flags, apparently.

Also, "It would’ve been better to do this somewhere secluded", I had that thought all through out the book, but they only pointed out that fact at the end. I don't know how they didn't get caught, but that was the vibe of the book, as you can see.

So yeah, throw logic through the window and you will enjoy this. 🤭🤭🤭

This was a fine, very sweet read about a college professor and one of his students. I wasn't so sure about it in the beginning but I'm glad I didn't give up on it because I ended up enjoying it more than I thought I would.

4 fun and slightly angsty stars

It was a delightful read with a good balance of humour, steam and feelings. Reid and Maddie made such a cute couple. I liked the build up of their relationship, as the physical side wasn't rushed at all - not necessarily because they didn't want to but still. They took the time to get to know each other and ease into a more harmonious dynamic. There were a few really sweet moments, like at the Botanical Gardens 😍 I was more here for the feels than the spice, especially as it is a pretty tame one I liked the fact we actually weren't in a sex-teaching trope. It was all very organic and a more going-with-the-flow situation. They took things one step at a time, which was a perfect match for this couple.

The plot was more angsty than I expected, to be honest. Someone recommended it as a low-angst romance (more my type), but I was literally stressing out on my sofa during the second half of the book. It ended up working well for my appreciation of Reid and Maddie's love story, as it paced their relationship in a clever way considering their current situation.

But what about this ending?! It's not an open ending, strictly speaking, but it's a HFN. I'm not against it, as I had trouble imagining how the characters were going to sort out their own future career, but don't expect a full HEA. There may be closure in the following books🤔

This was so sweet. I really enjoyed this. Reid was a young Professor (college graduate as a teen) and Maddie was one of his students. Reid had very little experience with people and relationships, so he was in unchartered territory when he was being paid attention from Maddie.

Maddie at first was a little obnoxious as he was trying to woo Reid. As they got to know each other, though, it was really cool how Maddie just seemed to accept Reid and help him work on understanding social cues and being more personable.

Although forbidden, these two found a way to be together until the end of the school year. When they were finally together, it was so lovely and sweet (and hot!), and I really loved reading about their growing relationship.

I'm very much interested in reading more in this series as it comes out.

is it just me or is the author not decided on the professor's physique? once, his arms were described as so muscular that his shirt stretched around them and then few chapters later he was described as nerdy and gangly? i mean, i might be wrong but I'm not sure if it's possible to be both?

the professor sure does remind me of myself though lol, i wasn't remotely autistic nor a genius but awkward was my middle name.

there was a petty vibe to it that would have been perfect in a YA book but i don't think it fit so well here.

Surprisingly cutesy.
I must confess based on the title and description I expected something smuttier. I mean a hot professor and a college student in need of "extra credit"? That screams porn script. So I was rather taken back by the sweetness of it all. Socially awkward professor has a crush on his handsome, confident student. They inadvertently begin to court and nothing sexy actually happens until very late into the novel. This book completely focused on character development and the MC's helping one another with personal demons. They ought to change the title to something more appropriate like, "A Virgin Professor's Guide to Dating".

This was surprisingly delightful. I wasn't prepared for how funny it would be while also tacking on some heavy themes of self-doubt and anxiety. This is about Reid, who is a professor and extremely intelligent. He is described as being told he's autistic multiple times but then later says he's not but he's 100% neurodivergent in some way and I loved it. He is really young for his job, early twenties if I remember right. Basically the same age as the students.

Then we have Maddie who is a straight-A student but is actually struggling in Dr. Reid Emerson's class mostly because of ridiculous horniness. I found this hilarious but others might find it annoying. I personally found it funny because it's so ridiculous. I loved the Maddie was so intelligent and really just wanted to do better but he was too horny and too anxious. Anyway, Maddie ends up asking for help and inadvertently tell Reid that he finds him attractive. Reid struggles with social cues and doesn't understand so they end up trading favors. Reid helps Maddie with extra work and Maddie helps Reid with social cues.

There's a lot going on and I don't want to give any spoilers, but it was honestly super cute I really liked it.

I also read Reid as aspec. He talks a lot about how he doesn't feel attraction and really only ever wants one partner. I wish it had been labeled and I also was a bit uncomfy with how adamant the author was about saying Reid wasn't autistic. I mean they don't say it would be negative, but they also could've embraced it.

as a whole, definitely one I would recommend and reread.

Loved it

I really loved the premise of this book and how the interactions between the two developed. Reid is a young professor who doesn’t understand social cues very well and Maddie is the student who becomes the teacher. The way the story between them developed was so well written and I loved the twists to the story as it developed. If you love a cute student/professor story then you will enjoy this book.

A surprising read with great character development and depth. I loved seeing Reid come out of his shell and embrace his feelings for Maddie. I enjoyed the depth to Maddie and his bravado is a mask for insecurities under the surface. a great couple and good fast paced story!

The author teases about the side characters just enough you need to know more about them and their stories. I'm looking forward to finding out about Reid's brother and Ben in book 2 and hopefully Atticus can find his HEA soon after...

2.5 stars. I came across this book bc it was in the Deals section of Keira Andrews’ recent newsletter and I was completely drawn in by the adorable cover and promising blurb. It was a cute story but so uneven and oddly paced that I never was able to fully enjoy it.

It started off promising enough with the intro of the MCs, confident and experienced Maddox who had a case of the serious hots for his shy and awkward and sorta-on-the-spectrum professor, Reid. Things moved along nicely, if a little slowly, until the subplot with evil Professor Oliver was set in motion and the story completely lost all rhythm. I couldn’t figure out why the author went in this direction. The entire subplot felt forced and out of place and frankly just didn’t make sense. What was Oliver’s motivation for framing Reid? Did he actually think he could blackmail a student into providing false information? It was all just so thinly plotted and felt like it went on and on, w my interest waning more and more. Finally, the story refocused back to Maddie and Reid moving forward with their relationship, only for them to decide they had to put things on hold until Maddie graduates. Sigh.

The story continued w this weird kind of push and pull until finally, around 85%, the MCs truly get together. By then, I didn’t care much anymore. Any sense of chemistry was mostly gone and it didn’t help that the author gave us only one quick sex scene and all other subsequent tiny snippets were fade to black. Very unsatisfying esp considering . Suffice to say, the book title was pretty misleading.

It was clear who subsequent books in the series will focus on and while I am interested, I’m too gun shy after this read and doubt I’ll continue. Too many TBRs.

This was my first time reading this author. Loved, loved, loved Matty and Reid! I’m a sucker for nerds! I was a little worried about the student/professor story line but the author did a fantastic job with the story. They had a great connection and fantastic chemistry. The story flowed at a good pace and kept me engaged, couldn’t put it down. Overall, a fantastic read. The story was well written, highly recommend. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.

Sweet with building heat!

If you're looking for a book that smolders with a potential forbidden romance between a cocky student who is crushing on his clueless professor, you've found the right book... and I'm glad it's just the start of a series, since there are so many side characters who need a HEA.

This book was a quick and easy read, but hard to put down because you never knew when internal or external forces would cause Reid and Maddie to derail their budding relationship and what would bring them back together.

Definitely written with way more sweet than heat, so expect the slow burn.

Awww!!!

Reid and Maddie are so sweet! Like tooth rotting sweet.

Reid is the genius professor and Maddie is the smart but distracted student needing help to keep from getting a “B”.

It’s adorable to see them interact, because Reid is the epitome of social awkwardness. He makes a deal with Maddie. He’ll help with his class if Maddie will help teach him how to interact socially and how to read social cues. So it’s nice to see Reid grow into a more confident person and for Maddie to find his “the one”.

I will admit to being hesitant due to the title, but I really really enjoyed this book. I think it only took me two days to read the whole thing! I basically fell in love with Reid right away, and Maddie grew on me. They were super cute together, and I loved the way Maddie was so understanding and caring, but not intimidated at all by Reid. Their dynamic was really fun to read, and I am sad I have to wait so long for the next book in the series! I will probably now be purchasing all of DK Sutton's back-stock to tide me over until then!

Awww,I loved this book and I have no hesitation in recommending it!
Just as you think this story is going in one direction, that could make you hesitate to read,it turns around and heads in a different direction.Turning, instead, into a super sweet romance between a student and his professor.
Prof Em is definitely my favourite character of the two MC's.
I don't want to give spoilers for this book, I want to urge readers to dive in and immerse themselves in this absolute delight.

This was a really sweet book by a somewhat new to me author (I've only read one other DK Sutton book.) Reid and Maddie were so perfect for each other, and I loved seeing them go through all the obstacles they had to in order to reach their HEA. It's a very slow burn, low heat book, which is not usually what I read, but it was written so well I didn't feel like I was missing anything.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily gave my honest review.

Keeps you guessing until the end!

Believable characters and a good plot. Not quite torture, the will they/won’t they, but it is a sweet story with a lot of uncertainty and twists and often doesn’t go the way you’d like it to, but still gets to a happy ending. The behaviour of the bad guy never gets explained properly, which bugs me!

This was a great story of a student crushing on his teacher. It is a slow build up to a great romance between them. You have laughs and meddling friends. The teacher, Reid, offered to help his student, Maddie, in giving extra assignments for the class. In return, Maddie helped Reid with social skills. I loved it.

I received an arc of this book for my review.

If you enjoy the interaction between introverts and extroverts, romance and a good laugh this might be the book for you.
The book is need of some editing: it lingers too much in certain parts overlooking certain others, possibly more engaging, elements.
Several typos.
All in all a nice low angst story with many funny moments.

Story: 3 stars
Narration: 3 stars
Overall: 3 stars

I have a pet peeve... I need the cover model, be it a photo or an illustration, to match the description of the MC in the book. So seeing as Reid is blond and rides a Vespa and the cover... you see where I am going with it.

Anyways... This is my first read of this author and my first listen with this narrator.

Kevin Earlywine had good pacing in reading the story, distinctive voices when he was reading as Maddie but when he was reading as Reid I had a hard time distinguishing which of the MCs were talking. I don't know why he changed the nuances of the voices for the MCs when the POV changed. Also I know Gal supposedly had a cackle but giving a spot on witch of the West one was really necessary?

The story was nice and sweet and cute about a genius professor that had trouble with social queues and interactions and his very smart, OCD, student that was confident, friends with everyone and had it all brains and body and looks. The thing is though that it got repetitive and boring and not going anywhere fast that I was beyond glad to see the OTT actions of the rival professor just to get things to move along!

And I can't for the life of me figure out why the title is My [Not So] Slutty Professor... if it was My [So] Slutty Student would be so much more accurate. With that kind of title I was expecting more heat/chemistry in the book. This was almost too innocent and forgettable.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

**ARC Review**

This started out sweet, playful and fun. I really liked Maddie and thought the young professor Reid was adorable. Their flirting banter was fun and I was getting excited about how their forbidden relationship was going to come about. I was looking for just a little bit more steam but the title of this book is oh so appropriate...no slutty behavior here. So things were OK, then it started to get real angsty. I have no problem with a little conflict but not when it's drawn out and gets whiny. There were references a lot about high school behavior...yep...that sums up a lot of he angst. Young adults trying to figure out love and relationships. We have a villian so that threw in more issues to this forbidden relationship. All in all...I ended up still cheering for a happy ending for the guys.

My (not so Slutty) Professor
I'm sorry. I simply could not get into this. Too much back and forth. Too slow getting to the point.
I struggled to relate to either of the mcs.
I'm sure the inane humor here succeeded in raising a giggle from many readers, but I could not finish this.
I have definitely experienced better from this author, so I have no issue with their writing, but this one not for me.
DNF at 45%
2.5 stars (rounded up to 3) for potential and an eye-catching cover.

I requested an advanced reader/review copy of this book directly from the author and have fulfilled my promise to review.

While I wasn't the biggest fan of Maddie, he just rubbed me the wrong way a bit, I really liked our professor.
Reid was sweet and awkward in all the right ways, and he was loved by so many with just being himself and being an amazing teacher.

I didn't expect it to be a very filthy book, but the author had a way of building expectations with all their dirty talk and just breeze by when it came to doing the deed.
So if it's bought for the dirt, it's mainly talk and very sweet.

Cute but slow

Cute but slow and a little to PG13 for me. And while I semi enjoyed the MC's, I found some stuff didn't match with their characters. Some of their traits would have fit the other MC better, ex Maddie's OCD about little stuff seems like that would have been Reid. And when Reid would talk all flirty and stuff, seems like that woukd have fit Maddie better.
