I've done a lot of science activities with kids. This book has many of the usuals -- slime, diet soda and mentos, volcano, cleaning pennies with vinegar -- but also some lesser known ones that are both easy and fun. I've done the rain cloud activity many times; it's easy and colorful. Ice painting is new to me and looks like fun, and "water power" is a new take on an old idea.
In all, there are 20 activities. The ingredients lists are generally short, or if longer, include things you usually have around the house. Ingredients or steps that are beyond a 3-5 year old's abilities and need adult supervision are indicated by a red exclamation point inside a triangle.
The book itself is well done, although the type is somewhat small for children (or older adults!) to read, particularly the ingredients list, but there are plenty of photos to guide you. The cover is a soft cover and not very sturdy -- even the mild humidity of winter has curled the cover and the pages. But considering you'll be doing messy activities, the book is going to get beat up regardless!
