Charleston is a city noted for its beauty, its history, and its charm. Thanks to a long history of preservation, places like the Battery, Rainbow Row, the French Quarter, and the Four Corners of Law remain important parts of the city’s National Historic Landmark District. Today, residents and visitors share the legacy that is Charleston. Charleston: An Album from the Collection of The Charleston Museum celebrates the life of the city over several generations, from 1865 to the 1970s, with over 200 images of families at work, at play, on the water, and around the town. Most of the images selected have never been published previously, therefore the volume offers us an unusually valuable source of information about the city and its inhabitants.
Published in 1997, Charleston forms part of the 'Images of America' series and comprises a large display of well captioned historic photos of that city. The photos are very atmospheric, and often tell you every city in America has it's own particular twist on Americana.
Pretty fun looking through it and seeing all the pictures of Charleston that used-to-be. It is actually a much more thorough book than some in these photographic series and contains a good number of images that I have seen no where else.
