When Leah heard sirens in the distance, she just ignored them. Her daughter Emily needed her more and she was just out of reach, curled up under her bed with both eyes closed, body shaking. Her husband Ian's blood was all over the floor. Detective Luka Jericho is on the case and he's shocked to find out that the killer had left a witness behind. The scene is a painful reminder of his fiancé's unsolved death. The killer could be out there waiting to strike again.
Dr Leah Wright and her husband, Ian had moved back to her childhood home of rural Pennsylvania. They were hoping to ring peace and quiet. The story is told from Leah and Luke's perspectives. The main characters are likeable, believable and all rounded. We also get some backstory about them. The book is well written, with plenty twists and it's a roller coaster read. I guessed who the killer was but I couldn't work put the motive. This is the first book in a new series and it's got off to a promising start. I'm looking forward to reading the next instalment.

The Next Widow is the first instalment in the Detective Sargeant Luka Jericho and Doctor Leah Wright, currently working as an Emergency Room doc, series, set against the backdrop of the fictional town of Cambria City, Pennsylvania. E.R. doctor Leah has grown used to the siren song of ambulances approaching the hospital, but what she wasn't expecting was having them attend to herself one nightmare-inducing evening. It's just struck midnight on Valentine's Day and Leah is returning home from an enervating shift when she comes upon a devastating and ultimately soul-destroying sight; her husband, Ian, has been brutally slain and his blood now paints the room in a sickening shade of scarlet. Her thoughts then immediately turn to daughter Emily and, fearing the worst, Leah proceeds to frantically search the house where she discovers Emily alive and unhurt but in what can only be described as a catatonic state. Cowering like a startled animal under her bed, Emily is naturally traumatised by her experience. When Luka is called in to investigate, he realises finding a motive let alone a suspect is going to be a challenging task.
This is a riveting, heart-thumping police procedural from the opening pages right through to denouement. It's pacy, well written and extremely tense and is one of the most promising beginnings to a series I've had the pleasure to enjoy in a while. As the author is an E.R. doctor turned writer herself, this lends an air of authenticity to the details of Leah's life, in particular. The narrative is told from the perspectives of both Leah and Luka and I appreciated this simplicity as it often is made unnecessarily complicated but here, seeing things from both the victim and investigators perspectives creates a fully rounded experience. The emotional devastation portrayed in this rather shocking and hard-hitting initial instalment is handled with aplomb and comes across as genuine and believable. There is action, excitement, and suspenseful moments aplenty and the cast of characters is relatable with interesting backstories. A thoroughly entertaining and perfect escapist read for these troubling times. Highly recommended. Many thanks to Bookouture for an ARC.
The Next Widow is the first book in a new series by CJ Lyons, an E.R. doctor turned writer.
It’s then not a surprise when we’re introduced to the main character, Leah Wright, an E.R. Doctor with a deeply engrained need to try and save everyone, even though this is impossible.
This introduction doesn’t last very long, as the book plunges us in an horrific murder scene as soon as Dr Wright comes back from her shift on Valentine’s Day. She finds her house splaterred in blood, her husband savagely slaughtered, and her young daughter hiding under her bed in a near catatonic state.
Having no enemies that she knows of, and burglary being quickly ruled out as a motive, there isn’t many leads to follow for Sergeant Luka Jericho, the lead detective on the case. Leah Wright’s husband was a contractor on cyber security for the government. However, a DIA agent assigned to the case quickly rules out this work as a motive for the murder.
The book is narrated in the third person, alternating between the points of views of Leah Wright, struggling with grief and determined to protect her daughter, Luka Jericho and his team, and a very disturbed perpetrator.
That’s part of what makes this book thrilling as, if the reader knows Leah Wright is a victim, detectives’ instincts lead to look at the spouse as the first suspect in such an investigation. And, whatever gut feeling doubts Jericho has about Leah’s guilt, her name quickly becomes the only one remaining on the team’s whiteboard.
To add to this, the seasoned reader will be able to figure out around the halfway mark who killed Ian Wright, and how. However, the motive eludes us until the final chapters, as much as the detectives are kept in the dark. The reader’s added knowledge greatly adds to the tension of the final events.
Leah Wright and Luka Jericho both have had, and still have, complex and difficult personal lives, sometimes mirroring each other, sometimes playing into the main mystery, And, the same is true for other characters. This weaves a complex tapestry as interesting as the thriller itself, and makes for a good start to such a series.
The quality of the writing is what you can expect from a seasoned writer, and the book reads easily, difficult to put down. It’s quite fast paced, everything happening over the course of a couple days and nights, A puzzling peculiarity lies with the detectives using the word « actor » instead of the more common perpetrator or unsub but, that may be a regional specificity. The story takes place in the mountains region of Central Pennsylvania.
Some suspension of disbelief is required as for the how and why of the actions of specific characters, but no more than any TV police procedural or other book genres. It certainly didn’t keep me from enjoying the story, and I’ll be lying in wait for the next book in the series.
Thanks to Bookouture and Netgalley for the ARC provided in exchange for this unbiased review.
I really enjoyed this quick gruesome thriller. The main character, Dr. Leah Wright is like able and relatable. The story was full of twists although I did figure them out before the cast of characters they still kept the story riveting. On Valentine’s Day Leah comes home to find her husband has been brutally murdered and her daughter is traumatized. Leah is in a race against time to figure out what happened but the police seem focused on her as the prime suspect.
A heart-pounding thriller that took me by a storm with its tension filled scenes and swift pace. Author C. J. Lyons could give me a massive adrenaline rush in most of the book, compelling me to read it at one go.
Ian was tortured to death trying to save his daughter. Wife Leah just returned home after a heavy night at the ER. And life as she knew it was over. Detective Luka was the only one to stand by her even when clues pointed to Leah’s involvement. The investigation continued further until evil showed its face again.
What a roller-coaster of a ride this book was. My first read by this dynamic author, the imagery of the words stopped my breath many a time. The writing was brilliant with emotions making the words sing. I could feel every single strand of pain and worry that Leah had for her daughter.
Luka too had his own problems, but his attention to detail and gut instincts never wavered. Being the first book in the series, I liked how their interactions went about. A cop and a victim who was probably a suspect.
With only a few characters and good hints, it was easy to guess, though I didn’t know the motive. Just a tiny niggle or two. The last few pages went a bit haywire and decreased the pitch. The motive too was a bit ‘out there.’ But the overall book was pretty enjoyable. I would love to see how the two work together in the next book.
My thanks to Bookoutre, Netgalley and especially C.J. Lyons. From page one I was hooked. Everything after? Heartbreak and denial. I don't think I've been left with these awful feelings for a long time. This was a murder that was so visceral.. Right up until maybe the 80% mark, I was thinking how much I was reminded of Karin Slaughter. Then,.things got off beat. Probably just for me. I don't like tales that take "that" direction. I will have to read more of these characters. My favorite thing? She's got tons of books out. I have no intention of reading them. They aren't what I like. This? This is a series that I have every intention of reading. More please!
Dr. Leah Wright is an ambitious, tough, selfless woman with a god complex. She is successful and happy in her life until she finds her husband and her daughter drenched in blood. Detective Luca Jericho is assigned to investigate. Can he catch the killer before more harm is done?
This was an intense read. There are so many incidents that occur at once and that invokes overwhelmed feelings from the reader and that matches the emotions of the primary characters. The author added a ton of emotional quotient and it was easy to empathize with Leah and Luca. They were similar in a lot of ways. All the secondary characters were fun, pragmatic and that was a nice contrast. The entire book is written in the third person with simple diction.
Foreshadowing and irony were implemented well. There are so many hints throughout the book that will convey the killer’s identity. Details regarding the setting were not elaborate and that helped the story not lose focus. But some parts represented the moods of the book. Overall, ‘The Next Widow’ is an engaging, fast-paced, roller-coaster.
Personal Note: After my long-term rom-com YA binge, this was exactly what I needed. I’m so ready to bury my head in other books of ‘CJ Lyons’. This book has exceeded all expectations. ARC is provided by Bookouture publishers and NetGalley. Thank you.
What happens when a wife returns home on Valentine's day clutching a bouquet of roses, to find her husband murdered and daughter terrified...
When Dr Leah Wright she gets home one dark winter night, clutching roses in her hand, she finds her daughter, Emily, huddled under her bed and her husband’s blood all over the floor.
When Detective Luka Jericho is called to investigate, he’s shocked to learn that the killer left a witness behind – the victim’s young daughter. The scene is a painful reminder of his fiancé’s unsolved death, and he is desperate to find out what Emily saw that night.
Leah learned the hard way that the only person she could rely on was herself. But when she and Emily are attacked again, she realizes that she needs all the help possible to keep her daughter safe before the killer strikes again.
This was a good thriller but I didn't enjoy it as much as I wanted to, since I felt it was a little dragged in between. I kind of figured out who was the killer midway, but I wanted to know what the motive was. I liked the character of Detective Luka Jericho more than that of Dr Leah Wright.
Overall an okay read. But that being said, I am looking forward to the next book in this series to see where it leads to.
Thank You to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!!
The Next Widow by C.J. Lyons is the 1st in the Jericho & Wright mystery series.
First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Series Information: DS Luka Jericho has been in violent crimes for over 10 years, and fought to remain on the streets. He doesn't want a desk job. His team consists of Ray Acevedo, Scott Kricheck and newcomer Naomi Harper.
My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
Dr. Leah Wright returns home after her shift in the ER ended at midnight, only to find her house in a shambles and blood everywhere. Her husband Ian is dead, and her 6-year old daughter Emily is cowering under the bed, in shock.
Leah's determination to keep her daughter safe is the only thing holding her together.
Luka and his team are at odds as to motive. Naomi is sure that the perpetrator is Leah, and is out to prove it. Luka is not as sure, although as evidence mounts, even he thinks he may have been wrong.
Meanwhile, Luka's own family is keeping him on his toes.
My Opinions:
A number of years ago I read other books by this author, and although they were okay, they didn't stay with me long. This one just looked interesting, and I'm glad I chose it.
The story grabs you from the first chapter, and remains interesting throughout. Although there was more than enough fore-shadowing to allow me to figure out the perpetrator by the middle of the book, it was still good.
I liked the both Luka and Leah, as their characters were deep, and interesting and likable. I could have done without their families (in particular Ruby), as the side-stories for them weren't really needed. As well, Emily's character grated on me (a little bit of a smart-a$$ for a 6 year old).
Overall, it was pretty good, and I will definitely watch for the next in this series.

4.5 Stars: I read the second book in this series and enjoyed it so much that I had to go back and read this one. The Next Widow sets up the Jericho and Wright series, introducing the main characters and giving us a lot of their backstory. I enjoyed this twisty crime thriller. Dr. Leah Wright, her husband Ian and daughter Emily moved back to her hometown in rural Pennsylvania, to care for her great-aunt who raised for her when she became ill. Leah is working in the emergency room at the nearest hospital while her husband works as a professor and cyber security consultant. He takes on most of the child rearing responsibilities but Leah is still a loving and involved mother. When she returns home one evening and finds her husband dead and mutilated and Emily hiding, completely traumatized. The question of who the actual target is, causes Leah to go into hiding as much as she can. What she doesn't know is who is behind this crime and what is their motivation. Detective Luka Jericho is called in as the lead on this crime. He is dealing with his own baggage and issues in his own life, which serve to show the human side of policing. Can he figure out what is going on before Leah and Emily become targets?
This is a riveting, nail-biting crime fiction story from the opening pages right through to the climax and conclusion. It is well-paced and well-written. I loved how tense I felt while reading this one. I read this in one afternoon and evening, barely stopping for dinner. The story is told from the points of view of both Leah and Luka. It was great to hear the perspectives of both the victim/suspect and investigator, it gave a complete view of what was happening. Of course Leah was the main suspect, and C.J. Lyons writing gave all the reasons why this was so. The author is an E.R. doctor turned writer herself, so the story was very real, especially the parts set in the hospital. I had no idea who the culprit was, until just before the reveal in the book, which always makes me happy. I recommend this book with its action, excitement, emotion and suspense. This is a wonderful start to a new series, and I recommend it to those who enjoy crime fiction with a lot of suspense.
Lyons’ The Next Widow features Police Detective Jericho and ER Doctor Leah Wright, appropriate because the author herself is an ER doctor. It opens with a fantastic opening scene as Leah comes home to find her entire world torn apart in a maelstrom of blood and despair. You can feel her anguish and shock as she deals with the ensuing situation. It’s then a mystery as to who ripped her world to shreds and whether it’s over or there’s more to come. Dr. Wright has a backstory of estrangement and abandonment from her hippie mother. Detective Jericho has his own demons in the form of his drug addict sister.
After the high-octane pace of the opening scene, the pace slows down quite a bit and the investigation leads in different directions and suspicions fall upon everyone, even Leah. Also, there seems to be no where safe for her.
The resolution of this situation isn’t necessarily resolved as cleanly as the exciting opening scene. In fact. The whole plot is unnecessarily complicated, but certainly foreshadowed in so many different ways.
My thoughts Rating: 5 Would I recommend it? Yes Would I read more of the series? Yes, Would I read more of this author? Yes,but only if their'll like this. First off I want to thank Bookoutre, Netgalley and especially C.J. Lyons for letting me read and request this as soon as I saw it NetGalley because I knew it would be something that I would pick up and read and man was I right. Because right from the start I was hooked to point that I didn't want to stop reading and that I just wanted to set there and read. And even though this is my first time reading anything by this author,I now want to more of this series to read. There was twist and turns and all kinds of questions that I kept asking myself, like who would want to kill the husband so bad, was it something linked to his work , or maybe even to Leah's work, or did Leah really have something to do with her husband's murder. So if you'll looking for heart pounding edge of your seat thriller then you might want to check this one out.
The Next Widow by CJ Lyons is a dark & gripping crime thriller that is definitely is a page-turner. The incidents in the book are pretty chilling & creepy that left me reading late into the night. Set in rural Pennsylvania, I found the description of the places & the scenes to be quiet with a sense of foreboding. This created a creepy atmosphere & set the mood for the story. I loved the character of Dr. Leah Wright & found Luka Jericho to be just okay. I'm hoping there will be more interesting things to learn about him in the following books. It would be interesting to see how a partnership between an ER doctor and a detective develops. The rest of the characters were great too! While I loved the plot & the twists the book had a bit of a far-fetched sci-fi element that I found very difficult to believe. But other than that the book, was a great start to a fresh new series that seems to hold a lot of potential. I'm looking forward to the next book. Thank You, NetGalley, Bookouture & CJ Lyons for an arc!
The Next Widow by CJ Lyons is the first in the new series, Jericho and Wright thrillers. Jericho is Luka Jericho, a murder detective who has never used his gun. He is still missing his fiancée, who was killed years ago, and lives with his grandfather, who is struggling with old age. Wright is Dr. Leah Wright who is an emergency room physician, who does her best to save a life, no matter what. It is Valentine's Day, and Leah is working her normal noon to midnight shift. She takes a break at 8 to call her husband and daughter, as is her routine. He husband plans to wait up as he has a surprise for her. As she is living the hospital, she picks up a dozen roses that have been left at the desk for her, the card, repeating the promise of a surprise at home. When she arrives, she enters through an open back door and immediately sees blood. She follows the blood to see the butchered body of her husband and discovers her daughter hiding under the bed. She crawls through the blood to get to her daughter, calls 911, and begins the nightmare of the next 24 hours.
A little more bloody than what I normally read, The Next Widow is so compelling it forces the reader to keep reading. Not out of fascination, really, but out of a need to know. There certainly are crazy people in the world and we meet several of them in the process of solving this crime. There are good things, too. Good people. The plot was convoluted, but quite good, and the characters were well written, with deep backgrounds. There were a number of excellent subplots, more than enough to keep the story interesting. Most of them were about the people in this very character driven novel. The conclusion was satisfying and I look forward to more. I recommend it.
I was invited to read a free ARC of The Next Widow by Netgalley. All opinions and interpretations contained herein are solely my own. #netgalley #thenextwidow
The start of a new series! For some reason, this always tickles me. In this book we have Dr. Leah Wright facing the brutal murder of her husband. She finds her daughter cowering under her bed. Her daughter Emily is unharmed, but certainly is not unaffected by witnessing her father's murder. Leah is an emergency room doctor who always wants to save everyone and fix everything. Detective Luka Jericho is tasked with finding out why her husband was killed, but also why the killer left her six-year-old daughter Emily alive. This book was intense from the very beginning, especially the murder scene.
There were points in the story that turn to something far more emotional for both Leah and Luka when it came to their pasts. This is where the story took a bit of a shift for me as it took me out of the mode of the reason for the murder and how it affected Leah and Emily. But then as I continued to read the book I was able to realize that as this is the first book in a new series, we just had to get to know what drove Leah and also what drove Luka. Thinking of things on that level allowed me to continue to enjoy this very well-written book.
As the story continued to focus on the investigation of the murder, there was a shocking twist that took place towards the end of the book, so much so, that I realized that there was no way to even guess who was responsible for Leah’s husband’s murder. I love it when I am kept guessing and Ms. Lyons did an excellent job keeping me on the edge of my seat. The Next Widow is an effective police procedural that introduces the two characters and I am eager to see what is in store for them as the series continues.
Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.
This is a great crime thriller and a great start to a new series. Leah returns home from work to find blood all over her house and her husband slouched against their daughter’s bed. He’s been brutally murdered and their daughter is cowering under her bed after trying to get away. Jericho is called out and can’t believe what he’s seeing as there is blood everywhere. Leah and Emily are taken to hospital to be checked over and Emily is clearly traumatised by what she saw. Jericho and the team start investigating but have little to go on until a witness comes forward. This is a gripping read that definitely took me by surprise when the killer was revealed. I look forward to finding out what’s next for Jericho and am intrigued that Leah Wright is also mentioned as being in the series. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.
would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this gripping novel....

wow what a rollercoaster of a ride this book is...red herrings galore brilliantly written and keeps you on your toes...
keep an eye out for this author and what a beginning to a new series..cant wait for the next book
Get ready for a heart pounding thriller! Torn between her role as emergency doctor, mother, and widow Leah is struggling with her new reality. This story really points out the struggle a victim goes through when a family member is murdered. The reality of what the cops are thinking, the work involved, and the trust of a good team. Lyons provided a heart stopping storyline, and as a mother I was torn in many directions. As the wife of a cop, I completely understood Luka’s decisions and the stress his team goes through. My copy was provided through Netgalley and my review was given voluntarily.
now this is just brilliant . Leah is on her shift at hospital she rings her daughter so she can say goodnight her husband sounds as if something on his mind . Leah gets flowers left at reception just thinks of husband . she goes home sees all the blood in kitchen she needs to find her daughter and get her out .detective Luka is called to investigate . Leah just wants to keep her daughter safe some one got other ideas they think she killed her husband but Luka does not will say no more so recommend

Leah Wright comes home to find her husband murdered, and her world torn about. Her only concern now is keeping her little girl safe, but who can she trust? Had me gripped from the first page. This was my first C J Lyons book, it definitely won't be my last. Can't wait for the next Jericho, Wright thriller.
Thanks to NetGalley and Bookouture for a free e-book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own. It releases on the 28th of July 2020.
I haven't been reading thrillers for the past few months because they've all been disappointing me. Thanks to this book, my love is rekindled.
We start off with Dr. Leah Wright, who finds her husband brutally - and I do mean BRUTALLY - murdered, with her daughter as witness. We then follow her and her daughter, as well as Detective Luka Jericho and his team, as they try to find out who did this, and why.
I figured out parts of the ending as the book went along - some parts I figured out earlier in the plot, and others just before the end. It wasn't in a 'the plot is so basic that anyone can figure it out' kind of way, but rather due to the author's excellent writing, which makes you feel as if you part of the story itself, and enables you to piece together the puzzle alongside the characters. This leaves the reader invested and keeps you wanting to read more.
The characters are well-rounded and I felt myself caring for them and rooting for them. It's the first book in a series, and the author sets it up perfectly for the following books. While the main story-line focuses on the murder, there are also other plot-lines that come into play - such as Leah's history with her mother, and drama in Luka's personal life.
This was a highly suspenseful, interesting, and unique read. I can't wait for the next book to come out.
How would you feel coming home to your loving husband and daughter on a valentine's day eve, only to find your husband killed in the grotesque way possible and your child hiding behind in fear, and you'd have to crawl through your dead husband's blood in order to retrieve your child and console her? Not so romantic isn't it?
So when Doctor Leah falls victim to her husband's murder, she's also the prime suspect in Detective Luka Jericho's investigation, although the Detective has other views on the widow. He's curious about the doctor and want to know more about the couple and the live they shared. Soon more stuffs are discovered about the dead husband Luka is stuck with a very short list of suspects and time is running short!
I loved the pace of this book! Absolute corker filled with twists and very few characters. Alternative PoVs of Leah and Luka gives the reader enough information about the mental state of a distressed mother and child and also about the progress in the ongoing murder investigation. A very clever narration I'd say, although I guessed the perpetrator early in the book I did not guess the motive behind it. There are few graphic scenes, that might be sensitive for a few. I would happily recommend this thriller to anyone who'd enjoy a pacy domestic thriller with occasional twists thrown around.
Many thanks to Bookouture for having me on the #BlogTour. All opinions mine.
It’s very clear she knows her way in the medical world, because of how she describes certain scenes and I like that a lot.
It’s true that the main character Leah does not always make the best decisions, but let’s face it: if she would have, we would have ended up with a very thin book. 🙂 We also may not forget that she was traumatized, afraid and I guess you don’t have all your brain cells in the right place during those times.
I am so happy, because I had figured out who was the culprit. The reason why they did what they did only became clear at the end. There were little pieces that started fitting together but the big revelation was rather shocking and very good indeed.
A great start to a new series. Can’t wait to read part 2. 5 stars
Get ready for more twists and turns than your heart can handle in CJ Lyon's new book The Next Widow. ER doctor Leah is excited to get home after a long shift at the hospital on Valentine's Day. When she arrives home, her beloved husband is dead and her six-year-old daughter Emily is traumatized.
Investigators aren't sure who would want to kill Leah's husband, Ian. Was it his government contract? Was he having an affair? Or someone closer to Leah? Detective Luka Jericho is certain that this will be no easy open and shut murder case. No one is who they seem in this thriller.
Happy to read that there will be more books featuring Leah Wright and Luka Jericho. Be warned - you won't want to put this book down and will stay up very late at night.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of The Next Widow, the first novel in a projected series to feature Detective Sergeant Luka Jericho and Dr Leah Wright, set in the fictional town of Cambria City, Pennsylvania.
When Leah returns home at midnight from a gruelling shift in the ER she finds her husband, Ian, slaughtered and her six year old daughter cowering under the bed. Luka is tasked with the investigation but he and his team struggle to find either a suspect or a motive.
I thoroughly enjoyed The Next Widow which is a tense, pulse pounding read that held my attention from start to finish. The narrative is split between Leah and Luka so the reader gets both sides, crime victim and investigator and also some of the characters’ history. I preferred Leah’s side of the story as I thought that the gamut of emotions that she goes through and her overwhelming need to protect Emily were well done and empathetic. I wasn’t as enthused by the investigation which seems to involve a lot of jumping to conclusions and twisting the facts to fit the theory.
I read constantly so not all the details of every book remain with me (I’m not getting any younger), I can’t name the book but I have read a similar plot before, to the extent that I had a good idea of the thrust of the novel. Not that it made any difference to my enjoyment as the details are different and the writer puts her own stamp on it. I did find the investigation annoying but the action, tension and excitement of Leah’s ordeal more than made up for it. The solution comes with action and a man from the government who confirms all our darkest suspicions about their suspect motives. It’s a nice touch. It might seem rather sudden with all information falling into place in a couple of chapters but I felt that the novel built to it with small hints throughout.
I would probably read another novel in the series for the entertainment and escapism it would offer but I’m not yet convinced by the characters, all of whom seem rather blinkered and entrenched in their prejudices.
The Next Widow is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
Dr Leah Wright returns home one evening after a tough shift at the hospital to find her husband dead and her daughter Emily huddled under her bed. All evidence points to Leah but can she prove her innocence and keep her daughter safe?
The Next Widow is a real whirlwind of a novel! Fast paced, fraught and full of tension. There were also a few heartbreaking moments too, especially as Leah struggles to connect with her traumatised daughter in the aftermath of her husband’s death.
There was a nice back and forth in the POV’s and we get to know the characters of Leah and Luka really well. They both have their own sets of personal problems, even before Leah’s husband is murdered, but both are tough and determined to push through their emotional scars.
I have to be honest I pegged the killer fairly early on, although the entire motive wasn’t clear until the end.
The Next Widow is a gripping and fast paced read, I’d recommend to any thriller lovers out there. I’m looking forward to seeing where this new series is headed.
When Leah returns home to a blood filled house and her daughter hiding under the bed her world implodes. Who would cause such devastation to her and why? Luka Jericho is the detective investigating the case and more fingers pointed to Leah being the one in the firing line. I really enjoyed this start to a series (I hope) Great characters and a good read. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
An interesting book with a fantastic premise. I really enjoyed the author's style of writing and I got through the book in a couple of days. I guessed the 'twist', but not too early that it spoiled the enjoyment for me. If you enjoy reading crime / thriller books, then you'll definitely enjoy this.
I would recommend not reading any comments before you read this so you go in blind!
An excellent police procedural with a decent pace. CJ Lyons introduces readers to two well developed, fascinating characters that are easy to relate to and ultimately leave readers intrigued, wanting more. The plot is highly character driven with the crime/police procedural front and center. Thoroughly enjoyed, highly recommended!
Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC which was read and reviewed voluntarily.
I am thrilled to find another cop procedural series to follow. I'm partial to my favorites - Will Trent, DD Warren, Quincy, Eve Dallas - but Luka Jericho and Leah Wright have managed to power their way in with a stunning thriller.
This is my first book by CJ Lyons, and I am thoroughly impressed. Characters that leap out of the pages and stay with you long after you've turned the final page - can't wait for the next one!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the arc.
