After liking the author’s previous book, The Golden Girl, I was happy to request this one and I really enjoyed it. It looks like the start of a new series so I’ll be keeping an eye out for a follow up.

Detective Abby Pearce has come home to Martha’s Vineyard and joined the Cedar Cliffs police department as its only detective after 10 years with the NYPD. She couldn’t quite let go of the guilt over her partner’s death on the job and her drinking was out of control. This was to

The story looked interesting when I thought of reading the book, and it certainly was. This is a well written story with some good twists. An easy and smooth read.

Abby Pearce moves to the small town of Cedar Cliffs in Martha’s Vineyard as a detective in its police force, after being in NYPD before this. Memories of some past incidents (including her divorce) continue to plague her as she tries her best to move ahead. She is assigned to what is the most visible case in recent times when Samantha

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Her Ocean Grave, the first novel to feature Detective Abby Pearce, set on Martha’s Vineyard.

Abby Pearce returns to her childhood home of Martha’s Vineyard after 10 successful years with the NYPD. She’s looking for a quieter pace of life, but it’s not to be when she has to investigate the biggest case ever on the island, the disappearance of 16 year year old Sam Claymore, daughter of a successful cosmetics CEO.

I’ve been told that writing a police procedural is a challenging task, but I found this book to be well-plotted, well-paced and well-written. Once I discovered that the author is really an accomplished author and journalist, Richard Belsky, I knew I was in for a treat.

Perry tells the story of a former NYPD homicide detective who returns after 10 years to her small hometown police force on Martha’s Vineyard. When a teenage girl mysteriously goes missing during a bike ride, it sends shock waves t

Wow, what a fabulously gripping novel Her Ocean Grave is! I loved how Abby was a strong woman struggling with alcohol whilst being a law enforcement officer. Sam is missing and Abby is the only detective in the local force so is the one searching for Sam. Her investigations prove that other young girls have gone missing from the area and Sam had her suspect..........

The blurb intrigued me. There is action from the start with a light hand. Its a mystery a good mystery which had some surprises. To me any book that throws me some surprise is a win. It took a while to engage, to care about Abby and as she grew on me the more invested I was in the book. This is not a dark read although some darkness is there its dealt with a lighter touch. Bodies, families with issues and a small costal town. A quick read. Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture and Dana Perry for the a ...more

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Her Ocean Grave by Dana Perry that I read and reviewed.
This is the first book in the Detective Abby Pearce series by Dana Perry and even though I am not usually I big fan of books told in the first person and this book did start a bit slowly by the end I was intrigued by the main character and am looking forward to more from this author who was new to me with this book.

Abby Pearce left her detective job in the NYPD and returned to her home town in Cape Cod to take a detective job there. When a 16 year old girl from a rich family that is vacationing in town disappears, Abby has her first big case to solve on the new job.

This was a good solid mystery and a quick read. There was nothing fantastic about it and I liked the 2 previous books from this author a little more but

Detective Abby Pearce relocated to Martha’s Vineyard for a more peaceful life than she had as a homicide detective in the NYPD, but that isn’t exactly what she got. There’s some resentment about her “big city” experience garnering her the only detective position and some struggles with her own complicated past on the island when all of the sudden the spotlight is shining right one her when a teena

It is said, though I do not know the source of the quote, that a brave soldier never looks back. I take this to mean that it’s a bad move generally to revisit past glories and/or failures, and that one should always look face forward. The past has passed; it’s history; what’s done is done and there’s no need to dwell on what might have happened if circumstances and feelings were different. If this was indeed the case, then therapists would be out of business and writers would run out of material ...more

Detective Abby Pearce is back on her home island of Martha’s Vineyard needing to escape the trauma of her life as a well-known NYPD homicide officer. Her childhood as part of the small community however, wasn't a carefree experience either and life is still tough. As a recovering alcoholic she knows this is likely to be her last chance to stay in the job she loves and with a low level of local crime she hopes to get her life back on track.

All her plans go out the window when Samantha Claymore t

A new series from a new-to-me author were two good reasons to dive into Her Ocean Grave by Dana Perry.

I really liked the history of Det. Abby Pearce's childhood in Martha's Vineyard, her move away and now, her return.

I liked her tenacity. As a former NYC detective, she honed the skills that she takes home with her. Skills that ultimately help solve her first big case on the island.

These things all helped when I struggled for about 10% of the book, but determination and a storyline that suddenly

I have a confession. I have a serious addiction to mystery series starring female detectives. After I became addicted to 8 separate series I swore no more. Well, I fell off the wagon. Her Ocean Grave is a new series based on Martha’s Vineyard. I love the setting. I like that the author uses the first person narrative. It makes it so different from the other series. Perry wrote a very creative, intricate plot. Abby Pearce is flawed and she makes no pretense about it. She is a good sleuth and take ...more

Having read and loved Dana Perry’s Jessie Tucker series, I was excited to see that Her Ocean Grave was the start of something new (although I still need more Jessie Tucker Mr Perry..) For this new offering, we have Detective Abby Pearce who I instantly connected with and found to be a great lead.

Abby is a detective on Martha's Vineyard which is a small island. Her previous posting was in NewYork until she lost her partner and through her drinking also lost her husband. Dana Perry does an excellent job introducing us to her and then revealing more and more intriguing pieces of information about her past as the story continues. Caveat: I'm a big fan of this author's books, both the Clare Carlson series written by R.G. Belsky and the Jessie Tucker series penned under Dana Perry. Would I enjoy this book, the first in another series, as much as I have all his previous books?

√ The setting description, within the narrative, was so vivid that while sitting on my deck reading,

Her Ocean Grave by Dana Perry is unlike no other missing child case that I have read before-and I have read a lot of them. Even in the prologue you get the strong vibe that this isn’t your typical book.

While this book had an interesting plot: A girl goes missing during an afternoon bike ride on an island, there is no indication of foul play she seems to have dissapeared into thin air.
I had a had time getting into this story. While I do think it was well written, I felt like I was reading facts instead of being told a story that I could imagine in my head.
