Haruma Ichinose is the cool guy at school. He's tall, popular, handsome and in a bitter rivalry with Yuki Mogami, a nice girl at school who just happens to be taller than him. He will do such dastardly things as try to take her to a horror movie to show her he's braver and cooler than, that will show her obviously!

...

Now why does everyone seem to think that it's a date and that he has a crush on her? Nonsense! This is war... right?

This is a fairly amusing, if slightly repetitive manga. Art is well done, most of the jokes hit well, overall very amusing. The characters are pretty good (though Ichinose annoyed me sometimes), this is a pretty good accomplishment. Initially I was worried it would fall into the same old cliches that many school based comedic manga operate on, but it managed to be a fairly fresh take on it. Well worth a glance for fans of comedic manga. 4/5 stars

Re-read 2/17/24-“That girl is going to reincarnate in another world someday and get a harem.” Too cute and I want to be that girl, just sayin’, lol.

THIS WAS JUST TOO CUTE!!

Et hem, I mean, it was SO ADORABLE MY HEART MELTED!!!

Ummm...what I meant to say is...

I really liked the role-reversal of the female being the "hero" and the male being the "heroine" in their behaviors. Also loved the body positivity of a 6 foot plus female romantic lead with the male romantic lead being shorter and while he was a little upset he was shorter, no one else minded and they all still loved the female lead and there was no tall shaming going on. (I don't personally have the problem, being altitudally-challenged, however it was nice to see in the book.)

I really enjoyed this and can't wait for the next one to come out so I can devour it! I will be recommending this at the store, definitely! 5, it's just so CUTE, stars.

My thanks to NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.

This was a hilarious and funny manga! I already was hoping for that based on the blurb and on the cover, but it was even funnier than I had thought!

Meet Ichinose, a popular boy, very shiny and dashing… but one problem.. the girl he likes is even more dashing them him, and OMG 12 centimetres taller (though according to a friend that is just perfect for kissing, which made me laugh so hard). The manga is him trying to do dashingly princely things to impress her, but it always ends in her dashingly rescuing him. Which had me in stitches, though I have to be honest at times I wished that he had a moment of spotlight!

He is also a big big tsundere and has a hard time saying his feelings, instead opting for grumbling and blushing and quickly turning x into y when someone questions it. It is quite adorable and really, while at times I could see him as a dashing prince… mostly I saw him as a cute princess vying for the hand of the dashing prince. I am not alone in thinking this, haha, oh no. His friends and classmates, and even later a teacher, all think that Ichinose is more suited as the heroine. And Mogami? The hero. I do like that, despite how often it ends up totally different than his fantasies, he keeps going.

I am glad that we also saw flashes of something else in Mogami. Don’t get me wrong, I love the princely girl types, but sometimes it just gets too much for me. And that is the problem I had with Mogami. Then again, she doesn’t always seem to know she does it. And there are apparently items (like a prince costume) that make her go all out… but when the item is removed she doesn’t remember a thing. Yep. So I was happy to see her act cute, see her ask Ichinose for help. See her be afraid of something. It shows that there is a whole different Mogami, and one I like much more than over the top glittery Mogami. Also, she is so clueless. I mean, I am clueless, but this girl definitely wins top prize with how clueless she is about things. At times I just felt sorry for Ichinose.

I love that these two are slowly getting closer. I mean Ichinose is in love from the start… but, and I don’t see this as a spoiler because hello this is a romance manga, we see Mogami is slowly figuring out that she has feelings as well.

The ending was cute and good, but also made me go NOOOOOO, because I just want to continue reading now! I need to know more! ARGH!

The art is really well done and I just love how the characters were drawn. Ichinose’s blushes are just the best~

All in all, if you like princely girls and dashing guys and lots of misunderstandings, height problems and humour, be sure to try this one out.

He was the hottest thing in school until she showed up. Somehow more handsome and manly than Haruma Ichinose, Yuki Mogami is the perfect prince. At first Haruma's upset at having his life of perfect handsomeness derailed by a girl, but before too long, he's madly crushing on her while fervently denying that any such thing is going on. This may not sound like a particularly innovative set up for a romantic comedy - especially if you've read Monthly Girls Nozaki-kun, but by god, does Saisou make it work. The contortions that Haruma puts himself through in his attempts to woo Yuki (without looking like that's what he's doing) are astounding, from his insistence that he doesn't want the muffins she made in home ec to the whole unfortunate love letter episode, and Yuki herself puts on a good show of being oblivious. And in fact she might BE oblivious, because one very self-aware chapter makes it clear that her life has been blessed (or cursed) by the shoujo manga gods, and that's rubbing off on Haruma a bit, too. From lampooning the hot-childhood-friend-becomes-your-teacher trope to having the class put on "Cinderella," She's My Knight plays all the hits with a deft enough touch that it doesn't feel like lame comedy or a retread. I laughed a lot reading this volume.

This was really cute! Cuter then I expected it to be I think!

There isn't much of a "plot, " but it's a lot of fun to read and fairly sure I smiled through the (almost) whole volume. It gave me a lot of Shikimori's Not Just a Cutie vibes where you have the gender bender roles and the smaller chapters.

And like with that first volume, I enjoyed this one! I thought the Cinderella chapter(s) to be the cutest and would be very curious to see what happens in the next volume because I think the ending was my favorite part. (Though the muffin scene was SO cute!)

Recommended to those looking for a light and quick read!

This was a very cute, tongue in cheek gender reversal of shojo tropes.
The art is cute and the characters engaging. I would have preferred a more fluid overall story arc instead of the vignette styling, but I would still definitely continue reading this series.

I was loving this manga one third in, but after that point it kind of lost its charm. I like that it takes common shoujo tropes and genderbends them to make fun of them. This story is definitely written to let you have a good laugh, and it’s successful in that sense. You’re not supposed to take anything seriously and I absolutely loved that.
The characters were also ridiculous in a cute way. I couldn’t get enough of Ichinose’s awkwardness and reactions in general lmao.
On the other hand, I find it more of my taste when there’s a good plot, and this manga had a very episodic nature which ruined things a little for me. With that format the manga felt also repetitive after the first pages.
Overall it was a cute read and I’m not mad about it :)

This is a fun little manga that uses classic Shojo manga tropes, but with a twist. The blooming romance is cute and I enjoyed how self-aware these characters are.

This is a SUCH a cute slice-of-life rom-com manga! It's a fun gender-swapped play on your typical shojo manga, where Haruma (who is normally a very cool and desirable guy) finds himself playing the unwitting heroine to Yuki's tall and dashing prince-type character - she's not trying to be, it's just how she IS (plus she's got a good four inches on him!) Their chemistry is so great and the overall tone of the manga both pokes fun at ALL the shojo manga tropes while also paying homage to them and delivering them in fun and playful new ways. The chapter about the muffins was just too hilarious, it had me cracking up! I can't wait to read more about this crazy pair in the next volume.

tl;dr
Light reading packed with gags for fans of shoujo manga.

Thoughts
Are YOU tired of high drama and convoluted plots? Want a read that's quick, light, and doesn't make you work for it? You've come to the right place! The series hangs on a single conceit - shoujo tropes but flip the genders. Chapters are quick with fast punchlines, with very little overarching plot to tie them together, so it's an easy read for anyone looking for some fun with no strings attached. The characters are all fairly goofy too, with a somewhat fourth wall-breaking knowledge of the tropes they are subverting, and my favorite parts were actually side characters' observations. Art is pretty and straightforward, with some fun comedic expressions.

This was a super cute read! She's My Knight Volume 1 follows Ichinose, a cool and popular high school student who finds himself challenged by the even more loved and charismatic Mogami who is unintentionally like a hero in a Shoujo Manga. What starts as a rivalry turns into more as he fights to understand his feelings, while finding himself in a lot of odd situations.

The story is pretty plotless, but it's a cute slice of life manga with such adorable characters I definitely found myself rooting for them! I also love their friends they are so fun. If you are after a cute easy read, that is very low stake I would definitely recommend!

There are no words to describe how perfect this volume is!!! It is a beautiful story of blooming love between characters. The story has all the classic shojo tropes (beach, school play, movie theatre) and they are executed perfectly!

I’m really loving the reversed gender roles, in this story we have a tsundere male lead with a Prince Charming female love interest and the relationship between the two is simply magical!

The story is great, it had me hooked from the first page! The art is beautiful and the side characters are really funny as well (minus the teacher, he has a weird vibe). I cannot wait to read more of this series! Will definitely start collecting this series!

I give this 5 stars!

AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

I need volume 2 asap 😭😭 Ommgggg I liked this manga sooooo muccchhh! 😍😍 Ichinose is really cute I gotta say and Mogami is definitely the person I am gonna look up to.

I have read very few shoujo mangas and this one so far was really the best, no kidding. I like the reversal that the creator has over here for the usual tropes used in shoujo manga. Mogami is definitely the 'hero' in terms of how usually the male lead is portrayed - tall, beautiful, caring blah blah blah. And Ichinose is like the 'heroine' in terms of how usually the female lead is portrayed - shy, mesmerised by the male lead blah blah blah. However cliche this is I really liked reading the POV of Ichinose coz he was just too cute. I can't wait to see how the story proceeds further in the second volume 😍😍

Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun.

Ichinose has always been very popular, but when Mogami shows up at his school one day, he's afraid that she will take his spotlight. He begins to develop feelings for her and doesn't know how to deal with those feelings, so he instead treats her as his enemy even as they grow closer to one another.

This is the first manga I have ever read, and I really enjoyed it! I'll definitely be buying more and starting a collection now. I loved the art and watching Ichinose and Mogami figure out their feelings for each other, although I would have loved to see a little more depth to the characters. The back and forth banter was entertaining, and I cannot wait to see what happens in the next volume!

Ichinose is a pretty boy with charms like unto a god, but he has nothing on the even more impressive Mogami. She’s taller than him, cooler than him, and desired by the women more than him. And unfortunately for Ichinose’s burgeoning affections, she’s also denser than a cloud of squid ink in a pool of oil seen during an eclipse.

I’m always up for these books where the gender roles get swapped and the overly dramatic Ichinose paired with the calm and collected Mogami are a real pair. I love how annoyed with her Ichinose is, despite the fact that he is utterly helpless to her charms.

If you blended the jokes of Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun with the premise of Hatsu*Haru, I have to believe you’d wind up with something very close to this book, featuring a hapless guy and an incredibly oblivious girl getting themselves into situation after situation.

When this book is on, it is on. I think the writing can be a little uneven, but some of the funniest scenes I’ve read in a manga lately are in this book. There’s an extended section involving a paper bag that had me laughing from start to finish as Ichinose’s plans continually backfire on him (his incredible dearth of chill around Mogami is so good).

The other highlight is a little obvious as it calls out the shojo manga tropes, but it’s still an absolute delight from start to finish - I love all the ways it’s abundantly clear that Mogami is the male lead and Ichinose is the female love interest.

The basic formula of Ichinose becoming tongue-tied and unable to do something as simple as ask for a muffin (not that Mogami helps) works really well and they’re really easy to root for. They slowly grow closer, but something is always waiting in the wings to cut the romance at the worst possible second.

The school play rears its head and that’s quite fun, although it feels a little too close to Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun’s female prince character in those moments. I like how they subvert the rival and inappropriate teacher, but the teacher is kind of annoying, so I found that not quite as successful as the other moments (said teacher does get better though)

3.5 stars, but I can’t not round up over the two stories that just killed it this volume. It would be worth wading through a lot of crap for them and what’s around them is decidedly not crap, just not as good.

4/5 estrellas

4/5 stars

She's my knight is a romantic story, full of shojo manga cliches with some hilarious twists. And that's because Ichinose and Mogami are not the typical main characters in this kind of manga.

Ichinose is the popular boy who loves to be admired by everyone, something that stops happening as soon as his high school classmate Mogami enters the scene. As Mogami is "the prince or knight" for which all the girls sigh.

I really liked how this manga makes humor of all topics giving the role of heroine to Ichinose and prince to Mogami. Those moments of misunderstandings that, instead of clarifying, become more tangled, much in spite of Ichinose, and the tsundere personality of our main male character that makes it difficult for him to admit his feelings for Mogami. When it seems that the relationship is going to advance one step, it is delayed three by any absurd phrase or situation.

I recommend this story because of how funny it is and the end of the first volume leaves you wanting more.

"Are you some kind of oblivious manga protagonist or something?! How are you so clueless?"

Haruma Ichinose is very popular and up until now, he hasn't met anyone as perfect as Yuki Mogami. She's tall, cool, collected, and totally makes him crazy. But can he deal with falling for someone even more dashing than himself? This is a very funny manga and I laughed out loud throughout reading it! It was hilarious and entertaining watching this unique dynamic play out and seeing these classic shojo tropes with the gender roles switched.

The characters were self-aware which made it extra funny, and Haruma's irritation by the situations really cracked me up. But thankfully Haruma and Yuki also had real insecurities so they weren't one dimensional. Each story segment was short and well written and I enjoyed the storylines. It was all over the place at moments but I would totally continue this series and totally recommend this book if you want a light-hearted and funny romance.

Thanks to #Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for making this e-copy available to me.

We follow Haruma Ichinose a very popular boy in high school. He has been able to maintain his popularity because of his charm and appreciation of things, especially people around him. That is until he meets and gets close to Yuki Mogami who is taller than him and seems to be loved by everyone.
He falls in love with her but cannot get rid of his jealously of her. He is jealous that she is taller than him and she definitely goes to lengths to ensure that he is aware of his shortness. It was quite funnier actually. Anyways, since he fell in love with her, he thinks because he is charming, she would fall in love with him too... Wrong...

I quite enjoyed this story, it was just frustrating to see that the height difference was the major bone of contention in the book. I wish there was a bit more.

I’ve been reading more shoujo and josei series so I was eager to get my hands on this.

She’s my knight is basically a shoujo manga with a popular, good looking guy, who’s sweet and charm and yet, cannot accept nor confess his feelings towards one oblivious girl. She’s sweet, kind and acts as every ‘prince charming’ should be. So, we basically have him as the tsundere heroine who doesn’t admit he likes her despite being so obvious, and we have her as the brave, honest hero, who supports him in every occasion.

Though the story doesn’t seem to follow a plot per se, with each chapter we see a bit more about their interaction. Also, it kind of relies on joking about gender roles in classic shoujos, so it’s always funny to see that.

I wasn’t expecting it to be deep and that’s why I probably enjoyed it more. Some stories are just meant to be funny, entertaining and overall, give us a nice time. This did it for me.

4.5. deeply charming! the teacher character is Not Fun at all, and i think we could have used a bit more defining of our secondary cast. but it does its main job of a fun romance dynamic very well. i always love when a man gets to be the main lens through which the romance is viewed in a manga - so often we only see the girls perspective! lots of fun

Got this based on the concept, while I like the idea of the shoujo dynamics being swapped, the issue was the male lead. I really liked how the female lead was portrayed as well as the best friend character. As I mentioned, the male lead’s antics could at times make the manga stale, especially as it can be overplayed.

Holy mother of manga and romance this was so good!! I was a little unsure at first because our main character seemed a little arrogant and vain but we quickly see that he is so much more than that. Yes, he’s aware that he is charming and good looking.. that is until he sees Yuki Mogami. She is not only taller than him but also exudes more hero energy. He is quickly marked as having heroine energy which is just adorable.

Their friendship and banter and really every interaction together was so cute and just instantly put a smile on my face. It was so nice to see a change of pace, where the girl is more of the protector, hero type versus the guy. I had a blast with this manga!!

I highly recommend this if you like romance and manga!! I am so hyped for volume 2!

Haruma Ichinose is a heroine!? She’s My Knight follows Haruma Ichinose, the most charming boy in school… until the most charming girl shows up. Yuki Mogami is a princely type! Ichinose would probably be jealous, if he wasn’t head over heels.

The pacing of this manga was practically perfect. Told in a vignette format, the chapters were short with humor infused in every page! This was a light and fluffy read, which I enjoyed immensely. Haruma was shockingly relatable, as a male protagonist in a shojo manga, especially in the later chapters. With gems like “She’s the first person, I want to see but also the last...,” I thought Saisou perfectly described what it was like to have a heart-fluttering crush.
I gave this manga a 4.5 out of 5 stars (I rounded to 5), for while I did enjoy this manga it relied heavily on tropes already established in shojo genre. Therefore, western readers, new or less familiar to the genre, might not get all of the humor. Despite this, I would recommend She’s My Knight!

Thank you NetGalley and Kodansha Comics for the letting me read and review this lovely comedic ARC of She's My Knight by Saisou!
