“According to some people, I may be crazy, but the one thing I am not is stupid.” He gently runs a thumb over my bottom lip and looks down at it and back up at me again. “And I would be stupid not to let you into my heart, Brielle, no matter how scared I really am.”

Brielle is the friend that everyone needs especially when she drops everything to move to New York from Denver to help her best friend with a major favor. The favor is filling in her position as the executive assistant to the highly intelligent, irritable, yet very good looking CEO: Kennen Davis. For three whole months.

Kennen is so broody, hates changes and would rather keep to himself than have friends so when Brielle enters his life, with her overly colorful outfit and bright personality, it’s like things are going downhill for him.

It’s also stressful (and bad timing) when his firm is in the middle of an important merger, but the board believes he’s incapable of being the CEO especially with his mental health. Maybe Brielle is the missing key to help save the company, and possibly Kennen’s life as well.

Elaine Patch’s debut novel was such an adorable and perfect grumpy x sunshine, workplace romance that you need to add to your tbr immediately! Brb, holding onto this book (and Kennen), and never letting it go!

Brilliantly Beautiful is Elaine Patch’s debut novel, and it didn't disappoint.

Brielle, a graphic designer, seems to go where the winds takes her. She seems to care deeply because she’s willing to drop everything to move to NYC to help out her best friend. I love people but I don't know if even I would do that. Brielle seems game to help even when it means working as an executive assistant, which she doesn’t have experience with. This sounds like it could be challenging as the executive she’s assisting, Kennen, is described by her friend as being challenging and difficult. Can these two opposites help each other? Will Brielle be able to shake Kennen out of his ways and help save his company?

I loved the chemistry between Brielle and Kennen, it was steamy and felt like they just instantly clicked. I enjoyed Brielle’s sarcastic and playful side. It worked as a great counter-part to Kennen’s grumpy side. I found Kennen to be a relatable genius, someone that was closed off and finds comfort in routines.

I appreciated that Elaine made Kennen vulnerable which allowed for him to grow into a better version of himself throughout the book. With Brielle’s help of course.

I think that the set up for another potential book at the end of this one was great.

HAPPY RELEASE DAY!

I received a free copy of Brilliantly Beautiful from the author in exchange for my honest review.

This book had a cute premise, and the overall theme was a heartfelt opposites-attract romance.
I enjoyed the light-hearted feel that this book had to offer.

Unfortunately, I found the dialogue to be exposition-heavy in the first 80 pages and I would have preferred a little more show-not-tell to get through some of the more detailed scenes that were setting up the story for us. The way that Brielle and Nic were interacting during the first scenes felt unnatural. This did improve as the book continued.

I found myself not being able to suspend my disbelief with the initial plot that Brielle had agreed to up and leave her life to take on her best friend’s job, with no experience in the field, for 3 months while Nic healed from surgery. Especially when this occurred only moments after Brielle explained the exciting graphic design project she had recently signed up to do.
Not to mention that she was expected to pick up the work of an EA of 8 years, in a finance company after a weekend crash course.

I enjoyed that the humour often complimented the romantic interactions between Kennan and Brielle, which allowed for them to have a more honest and raw connection throughout the story.

Overall, this book wasn’t for me, but that isn't to say that someone else won’t enjoy it. I am intrigued to see what else this author comes out with in the future.

If you are looking for a fast and easy to read lighthearted romance, with cutesy and charming humour. This is something you would enjoy.

Brielle's ride or die attitude leads her to drop everything, pack up her life, and haul it out to her best friend's apartment to basically take over Nicole's life. Nicole has to have unexpected surgery and will be out of commission for three month's leaving her job hanging in the balance. Nicole's boss, Kennan, is a purported jerk, but she is desperate to keep her departure to be felt as little as possible. In walks Brielle.
While I struggled to believe the timeline and acceptance of all involved for this transition, Brielle's sense of humor and snark left little pockets of hilarity, which I can always appreciate. The sticky notes were a cute way to highlight Brielle's attraction to Kennan and efforts to create a positive relationship.
Thank you to the author for the advanced copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.

Title: Brilliantly Beautiful
Author: Elaine Patch
Hero/Heroine: Kennen & Brielle
Trope: Workplace Romance/Opposites Attract

THE GOOD 😁

*dreamy sigh* Kennen. A tortured soul wrapped up in one hell of a gorgeous package. Working constantly for the last eight years to get his accounting company off the ground, the poor bloke wouldn’t know what a holiday was if one jumped up and backhanded him in the face. When his hardworking assistant Nicole has to take leave for health reasons, she asks her lifelong best friend Brielle to step in as Kennen’s assistant.
As complete opposites, you’d assume that the working relationship between Kennen and Brielle would be an absolute disaster, however that’s the last thing it is. With Brielle being a free spirit and very laid back, she brought out a side of Kennen that no one else had ever managed to before. When a crisis arises at work, Brielle manages to convince Kennen to take a ‘workation’ in Florida. And this is where the magic happens between these two.
Kennen, being a literal genius, finds it increasingly difficult to switch his brain off, and as a result of this, he suffers with terrible migraines. Brielle sees this trip as the perfect opportunity to help Kennen relax and get to know him better *insert exaggerated wink here*.
The thing I loved most about this pairing was how they brought out the best in each other, and were understanding of each other’s quirks. With plenty of humour and some pretty intense chemistry, this was a fabulous debut from the author.

THE BAD 🙁

Kennen’s reaction to the crisis (no spoilers) and how he treated Brielle was a bit unfair. She’d gone out of her way to help him and he shut her out when the going got tough. However, the more you read and understand about Kennen, you realise that this is how he deals with things that he has no control over.

Thank you to the author for providing an arc of this book. This is my honest review.

OVERALL THOUGHTS: A sweet and soulful debut with wonderful characters that bring out the best in each other

This fun contemporary romance follows Brielle as she attempts the impossible, covering best friend Nicole’s role as PA to a highly demanding CEO on the cusp of a major merger that could make or break his career. As dissimilar as chalk and cheese, Brielle more creative than corporate and Kennen a stickler for his routine, this mash up has plenty of potential to go awry….

I fell in love with Brielle as soon as she was introduced with her quirky sense of style and love of a pop of colour, a girl totally after my own heart. Her positivity is palpable from the pages and can’t fail to put a smile on your face as she strides ahead with a plan to help Kennen avoid corporate calamity by getting him out of the office (and his comfort zone!) I was heavily invested in their relationship from the beginning, and never more so when whisked away to hazy days of frolics in a perfect beach house by the sea. A rollercoaster romance is just what is needed to kick off a sizzling summer and has left me inspired to channel my inner Brielle in being more free-spirited and trusting the journey.

Thank you so much to Elaine Patch for providing me with a free eBook copy in advance of release in exchange for an honest review. This flirty fun romcom packaged in a beautiful cover deserves a place on everyone’s summer reading list!

Brilliantly Beautiful made me incredibly nostalgic for the beach, half of it is set in Florida and the author’s love of the water certainly shines through in her writing!

In this book, we meet Kennen Davis and Brielle Bissett, two characters who are complete opposites in personality but Brielle starts to win Kennen over with her bright and out there personality within the first few days! Kennen is CEO of his own company, that he has worked incredibly hard on to be as successful as he is today. Currently going through with a stressful merger, he does not need his Executive Assistant, Nicole to be taking a sudden leave of absence right now! Cue, Brielle. As Nicole’s best friend, Brielle jumps in, quickly learning the ropes of what Nicole’s position entails so she can take her medical leave. And let’s just say, that Kennen does not know what has hit him when Brielle turns up to work with her enthusiasm, her bright clothing and free spirit personality!

Brilliantly Beautiful is Elaine Patch’s debut book and I really enjoyed the characters and the storyline. As the story develops, the characters head to a small beach town in Florida from New York and it’s here that we see all parts of Kennen appear as he relaxes somewhat, and sets himself free of all that goes on in that brilliant mind of his. It is a lovely read as their romance develops and the fun antics that Brielle creates wherever she goes! A couple of twists add to this story, as does a lovely side character, Judy we meet in Florida. I think there’s going to be more romance written by this author and I’m excited!

4 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for Brilliantly Beautiful, a fun contemporary romance read. Thanks to the author for the early copy I received, this is an honest review.

Oh, yes! This is another romance for the books in terms of popping chemistry! This was just what my soul needed! Are there hearts in my eyes? It is because I love this duo so much. These are precious characters and their romance is a joy to read about.

Also, I have never read a leading man character that I empathized with more. His social aversions made me think, “Wait? Is this me? I think this character is me!”. Well, minus the whole genius that he is supposed to be. In every other way, Kennen is me. So in this romance, we have a semi-awkward, slightly irritable, workaholic lead in Kennen and we have his foil, Brielle. She is fun, kind, creative, and honestly a better person than I might be because she handles things with class. When they meet we have a romance in the works, people! They go from irritating each other, to flirtatious banter, to… Well, you’ll see.

If you love romances, and rom-coms especially, as much as I do then I think this will not disappoint you. Like me, I think you will be sad to turn the last page because you will miss these characters. This is a good one and do not think it should be missed. There are a few quibbles I have that I cannot share because I do not want to spoil it for you, but these are so minor that I am taking this 4 ½ star read and rounding up to 5 chemistry-filled stars!

Many thank yous to Elaine Patch for an advanced copy of her book in exchange for an honest review. I love it when I can say I honestly loved a book!

4/5 Stars

Nicole is a workaholic and executive assistant for Kennen, a successful CEO. She has a medical emergency that forces her to take a 3-month leave. She then asks a huge favor of her caffeine loving, free spirited best friend, Brielle. Adventurous Brielle takes on the favour and agrees to fill in for Nicole. Little does Brielle know, how difficult, demanding, and somewhat of a genius Kennen really is…

This was the perfect light, heartwarming read that I needed! It allows you to easily and quickly fall in love with the characters. Brielle is such a fun and positive person, and a loyal best friend – who drops everything in her life to help out Nicole. Her positive and fun spirit is felt throughout the entire novel, which is what I loved!
I also really loved the banter between Brielle and Kennen, and of course seeing their chemistry develop. I really liked that this book wasn’t solely focused on romantic relationships, but rather friendships as well. I think it’s nice to have that mix. This book would be a perfect summer read, on a beach – with a drink in hand, of course ;)

What a great debut novel! Thank you to Elaine Patch, for kindly gifting me an advanced reader copy.

This debut novel was all I wanted and more. It was a total opposites attract love story with some notes of forced proximity and some misunderstood broody hero for good measure. Throw in some epic beach vibes and it is my ideal beach read.

Brielle is the ideal best friend - literally willing to drop her entire life to help a friend on the opposite coast by filling in for her at work. She is quirky and smart with a fun vibe and amazing instincts. Kennen is the CEO who needs a life. He isolates himself from the world and needs everything a certain way and at a certain time. He can't stand when anything deviates from his schedule.

I enjoyed their playful banter because at first Kennan has no idea what to make of Brielle's free spirit but eventually she gets beyond his perfect suits and finds the vulnerabilities that lie beneath. They just work so well with the banter and the breaking down of his walls. The characters spend some time in New York then in Florida and I loved how totally opposite those two environments where and how they perfectly matched the two characters. I'm so happy with this happily ever after and hope this is gonna be a series because there were some major book two vibes in the epilogue that I'm looking forward to.

Whether you are on a beach or not, this book will make you feel like you've had a great time.

Freelance graphic designer Brielle is a tad lost in life. So when her best friend asks her to drop everything to move to NYC, Brielle jumps at the chance. Too bad the "favor" needed is working for an extremely difficult and regimented Kennen as an executive assistant. Kennen is everything free-spirited Brielle is not, but she might be the key to helping Kennen break out of his shell and save his company in the process.

This was a great debut novel! I loved both Brielle and Kennen's characters and their chemistry was easy and super steamy. They had great banter and I found myself laughing out loud often. They played with fire...a lot with their flirting and it created a slow burn with with lots of angst along the way.

Brielle was the perfect dry and sarcastic counterpart to Kennen's calculating and routine-based genius. He was incredibly grump in contrast to her complete sunshine. I loved their dynamic and appreciated how each character grew throughout the book. Kennen had the most subtle ways of showing his feelings for Brielle that were incredibly cute and endearing. Plus, he was super vulnerable and that is just the sexiest.

I loved how there was an opening left for a second book and if it gives me more of Judy and Brielle's best friend, I am there for it!

Thank you to the author for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

I was provided a free eBook copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Brielle is creative, adventurous and an extremely devoted friend. When her best friend Nic calls her, asking for help to save her career while she recovers from an intense surgery, Brielle drops everything to help, taking the next flight to NYC.

Enter Kennen, Nic and now Brielle’s boss. Kennen is a genius, who runs a successful company. Did I mention he is outrageously handsome? Unfortunately, the stress of his job brings on intense migraines which can leave him incapacitated. His health is starting to concern his company’s board which is unfortunate timing as he is about to complete a huge merger in Florida.

At Brielle’s suggestion, Kennen and her leave early to spend some extra time in Florida before the big merger for Kennen to unwind and show everyone his commitment to getting healthy. It is there, where their attraction becomes undeniable and the sparks start flying. But can you mix business and pleasure?

I really enjoyed this book! Brielle is a fantastic leading lady with a big heart. Honestly I loved her so much that her feelings for Kennen was a bit of a head scratcher for me. While his looks and brains were impressive, I didn’t see him quite as worthy of Brielle. But, I am always a fan of the opposites attract trope and it is done so well in Brilliantly Beautiful. I also love small town settings, which readers will enjoy once Kennen and Brielle are in Florida. The locals are so endearing and bring another layer of heart to this sweet story.

For a romance that feels like a breath of fresh air- definitely check out Brilliantly Beautiful!

Elaine Patch’s debut novel was the perfect opposite attracts romance. I found myself cheering for both main characters both in their proffesional lives & their personal lives. Brielle & Kennen’s chemistry was of the charts and i loved watching their story unfold. the sarcasm and the banter made for an enjoyable read. This book releases tomorrow (5/11) so add it to your amazon cart now!! I am looking forward to what Elaine Patch writes next! 💬 favorite quote: “Well, as a wave builds up, sometimes it crashes, and sometimes it gently flows down. Yet in the end, it always blends itself back in with the rest of the ocean, finding its peace and rhythm once again.” I smile at him and then continue, “Just as how making a commitment to someone means that you are willing to be there alongside them not only through the good times, but through the rough times also and everything in between…always coming back together as one in the end.”

This adorable, new romance by Elaine Patch is the perfect rom com to add to your TBR! Brielle is the best friend everyone wants to have with a fashion sense I wish I could pull off 🤩. Kennen is charming and brilliant, but it comes with a price to his health. When Brielle steps in to help help out a friend in crisis, she realizes there’s more to Kennen than his need for perfection and his gifted mind.
I loved that Brielle understood Kennen more than anyone else and did her best to alleviate challenges he faced everyday. I just wanted to hug him and put him in a bubble, but Brielle was able to support him and push his comfort zone just enough to help balance work and life
💞

Brilliantly Beautiful is about free-spirited graphic designer Brielle who flies to NYC to help her best friend by filling in for her as she recovers from surgery. As she stands in as the executive assistant to Kennan, the highly intelligent, grumpy CEO of the company, Brielle can’t help but make her way into the icy exterior of his heart with her humour, beauty and being able to get him to do things he normally doesn’t do. When she convinces him to take a vacation prior to the signing of a major merger as a solution to his stress, Kennan allows Brielle to change his outlook on what is important and opens up to the connection that they begin to have with one another.

Brilliantly Beautiful is Elaine Patch’s debut novel and it’s a charming opposites attract love story. Although I was able to predict how the ending would turn out, there is a twist that I didn’t see coming regarding the company’s merger. Brielle’s quirky jokes and selfless ways were adorable and Kennan’s struggle with his mental health added a layer of depth to the story. Also, I especially enjoyed the travel aspect of the story. It made me yearn to go back to Florida more so than before!

Overall, this was a quick and light read; making this a great book to bring to the beach with.

This was such a feel good romance read. I got sucked in instantly and couldn't put it down once I started.

I love the dynamic of Brielle and Nicole's friend ship. They truly are the best of friends that would do anything for each other. I hope everyone has at least one friend who they could say the same about. I know I do and I never take that for granted. While I would love to be as care free and adventurous as Brielle, I'm definitely more of a Nicole 🤷🏼‍♀️.

I also love how Brielle is authentically herself and doesn't try to conform to the corporate culture she is thrown into. It proves to be to her advantage in the long run. Both in assisting in her role and her relationship with Kennen.

Highly recommend this for your beach reads this summer🏖🏖🏖.

Nicole, a workaholic who dedicates her whole life to being Kennen’s PA. Kennen isn’t exactly the easiest guy to work for. But when a medical emergency comes up just before a big merge and Nicole is forced to take 3 months of leave, Nicole can only think of one person to step in and help.. her best friend Brielle. Brielle is a caffeine loving, happy go lucky, adventurous girl who just wants to help her best friend out. They only thing Nicole forgot to mention is how hot her number crunching, genius boss is..

I was kindly gifted this by Elaine Patch to review and I absolutely loved this book! It was so fun to read. I thought Brielle’s character was fabulous, I think everyone needs a friend like Brielle! I read this alongside quite a dark read and this was just what I needed. It also had me dreaming of being back on a beach some day.. 💭🏝. I would definitely recommend reading this for a light hearted, fun read!

I really enjoyed this debut novel from Elaine Patch. She did a great job of mixing humor and heart.
Brielle is a free spirit who just enjoys living life. Now her best friend, Nicole, asks her to fill in at her job in New York temporarily while she recovers from surgery. Of course, she says yes immediately. The downside to this is Nicole’s boss, Kennen. He’s a certified genius who is very meticulous in how he likes things done. Change is not his forte.
The huge difference in personalities between these two was very entertaining. Their chemistry was phenomenal and the heat was scorching.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read. There's something comforting in romance novels, having an idea who will end up with whom, guessing how they will get there, and feeling satisfied at the end. It's like having an amazing dish set before you and experiencing the satisfaction of knowing you were right about how good it would taste. But, there were unexpected spices and flavors that made the experience take a surprising turn and improving the meal tenfold. The same is true for this book.

Four brilliant stars for the debut novel 🌟🌟🌟🌟

The characters were terrific! Their subtle chemistry in the earlier chapters kept me floating while the latter parts were snizzling. Judy is the best grany we all wish we had in our life. Apart from Nic's behaviour everything in this book was amazing.

The seaside story settings were damn beautiful and lovely which made me want to visit those places, oneday.

The plot is good unless you don't dig in for logic. So far, this was one of the best novels that made me happy in 2021.
I would happily recommend this book to everyone, out there who needs a escapism from reality.

I have been so excited to read this one for months, and it did not disappoint!

I absolutely adored Brielle. She was funny, kind, and an amazing friend. Kennen began to grow on me throughout the story. I only wish I could have gotten a little more depth on the characters, I didn’t feel I learned much about them. I also often felt there were some things that tended to get repetitive. Regardless, I still loved this one! I enjoyed reading this one a lot and would recommend. This was a super cute rom-com that had me laughing out loud at times!!

it was overall very enjoyable to read and i had a blast. the first 300 pages went by so fast and i love brielle so much like i love you girl. kennen was also cool, but i did despise him a little BUT ITS ALL GOOD NOW AHHAHAHA. it was so heartwarming and my face is still a full on grin. and some of the scene made my heart ache like i actually felt the pain.

the way the author tells the story is very enjoyable, hence i finished this book pretty fast considering i was in reading block. i haven’t been reading for this pass couple weeks, but was cured by this book on an instant. saw someone reviewed this on instagram, saw the description, and i was hooked. needless to say that i was grateful.

although, i thought this book was gonna be spicy lol. unfortunately it wasn’t reeeeaaally the thing that i was expecting. i usually liked the type of scene where there is like build up and anticipation. throughout the book, there was build up, but could’ve been better. please know this is a subjective review.

2.5 rounded to 3

I have so much respect for indie authors and what they do, which is why I feel dirty when I write honest reviews. I’m talking about someone’s baby! Sadly, this book didn’t really work for me, but I know it will suit someone else. If these reviews help you sort through a TBR list based on similar/opposing tastes to me, then 👍

Brielle’s best friend Nicole is unwell and asks Brielle to do her an enormous favour - fill in at her job while she recovers. Being an excellent friend and a bit of a creative drifter, Brielle takes it on and meets Kennen, Nicole’s boss. Kennen is a social recluse, and a maths whiz, but discovers that Brielle has a way of getting him to let go.

Things I liked:
- This book centres around an adorable mini vacation between the leads, and they have cracking chemistry at times. Or maybe it’s just me being a sucker for sexy maths geniuses/genii 🤷‍♀️
- The steam in this is really good, it doesn’t take over the story but lets the tension unfold on the page
- There was a twist that I did not expect and elevated what I thought would be a predictable plot

Things I didn’t like:
- Nicole’s health issue was SERIOUS and her boss/the story really didn’t give it the emphasis it deserved - even when you get to know the characters
- I found the writing clunky and weak at start, but it did improve midway. You could feel the author’s groove kicking in
- Much of the dialogue was stiff and unnatural (apart from Kennen and Brielle cracking jokes). I found the reactions to the complication tight and odd
- The timeframe for this story was quite unrealistic, but I know some people enjoy instalove

In short: a really sweet romance with a neat little twist in the plot, but the writing style and overly formal dialogue felt strange to me. I struggled to read it because parts felt forced.

⭐ 1.5 / 5 ⭐

I don't want to say that I'm dissapointed because it's a sad phrase, but I am dissapointed.

My issue with this book is probably everything (not the author).

I felt like there were sparks and tension missing between Brielle and Kennen, they basically had an insta-love relationship and as it went progressing, it felt odd; they loved each other three weeks in to their relationship...

I could not decipher the main plot. The mayor conflict isn't even mayor. It's very basic and cliche; I'm a big cliche lover but this was just not it.

There was zero groveling whatsoever. It was basically a: "I'm sorry, I should've treated you better, my bad." with a "ok, I forgive you". Like, hell no. Too simple for me.

Did I mention that I didn't feel any spice or romanticism? Yeah, I did not smile ear-to-ear while reading some parts. The only think that had me in slight awe was Kennen's nickname for Brielle; although it wasn't used much, I have to say that it was cute with a little meaning/story behind it.

I was going to leave it in dnf when I was 50% in but decided against it as I already read half the book. It was when I hit the 70% mark that it felt a little bit more captivating for me. I skimmed through the last chapters and didn't even bother reading the epilogue. I just wanted to be done with the book.

Though I believe this is a debut novel, meaning that I think it's the author's first try in publishing a book, and I have to give them an A for effort. The writing wasn't all that bad and I suppose that their ideas were in the right place. In some time of the future, I will be trying out another of Elaine Patch's books.

~My Thoughts

I was totally disappointed by this book. After reading the blurb, I was so excited about reading this book but unfortunately it was not able to live up to the hype I had created about it in my head.

I loved the anticipation of reading a work place romance, with a grumpy×sunshine trope. But I unfortunately wanted to DNF the book (I didn't, but wanted to).

The interactions between the main characters, Brielle and Kennen, and the side characters was extremely awkward for some reason. The way the dialogue was written made me cringe a lot.

The plot had so much potentail, but the way it unfolded and the sequence of the events just wasn't right for me.

The only saving grace, and the reason behind the two stars, were interactions between Kennen and Brielle. But half way through the book, they also started getting cringey and akward.

So, all in all, this book wasn't for me at all. The writing, the characters, everything felt wrong to me. However, if somebody wants to read it, they are more then welcome too.
