What a beautiful story! An emotional small-town, second-chance-romance with an irresistible single-dad farmer and a woman trying hard to make up for the mistakes of the past. It’s a story of forgiveness, second chances, and finding where you’re meant to be, and it gave me all the romance butterflies. I loved it!

Colt and Layla were high school sweethearts and madly in love. But Layla wanted more from life than small-town living, and when Colt refused to go with her, she headed off to the

Ouch. This story begins with broken hearts. And anger. And a fight. And some nasty words. And then it gets even harder to keep the tears at bay because life truly slaps Colt and Layla upside the head(s). When Layla returns to town, Colt is determined to remain angry and hateful and hurtful. After all, she broke his heart. But he’s forgetting that she broke her own in the process. So when Layla lets her defensiveness run the show for a few minutes, Colt is convinced that his cruelty is not only a ...more

This is my first Jennifer Van Wyk book and I can honestly say it won’t be my last. I inhaled this sweet and emotional second chance story of Colt and Layla. Two high school sweethearts, with one content where they are in life and the other one wanting to explore the big world. After years apart and a sudden turn of tragic events happen these two are back in each other’s lives. I literally laughed and cried throughout this book. Colt is one of the best characters I’ve read in a while. This family ...more

Never Really Over tugged at my heartstrings right from the beginning! I am a huge fan of second-chances, and Jennifer Van Wyk is one of the best!

Colt and Layla had been high school sweethearts. But after college, Layla decided that she needed more to life than to live in a small-town, married to a farmer. Years later, both pretend to have moved on, but after an accident that leaves Colt raising his niece, Layla returns. Hurt and anger are still present, but there's still something there.

I love a second chance romance. And I'm a sucker for a book that gives me all the feels. JVW always delivers!

Colt and Layla. High school sweethearts. Her want for something more than what their small town had to offer ends their relationship years ago. And they have both moved on with life.

I'm not a big book crier, but this one definitely got me. It also had it's laugh out loud moments as well. Sweet sweet Tootsie Pop. Colt's love her for was amazing.

Watching them struggle to deal with the past

I will never get tired of saying this…. Every single time I think I’ve found my favorite Jennifer book I end up making a list out of myself. Because the next one always tops it! And Layla and Colt are no different! I went from crying to rooting on these two fiercely! Second chance romance at its finest is displayed in this story. Being one of my favorite tropes I couldn’t put this book down! Layla and Colt are special. This story is special. One click as quick as you can because this is another ...more

It's hard not to love a book that has a little girl nicknamed Tootsie Pop!!!

It has been 12 years since Layla walked out on Colt for a life in Chicago vs his family farm in Hollow Grove. She wanted bigger and better things and he liked the simplicity he has on his land. He is doing good for himself, has a niece, Poppy a.k.a. Tootsie Pop, that is about to turn one and has finally let go of his anger he felt towards Layla. An unexpected tragedy ends up bringing Layla back into his life at the worst

This book broke my heart over and over, but Jennifer Van Wyk did such a phenomenal job of piecing it back together!

Talk about your second chance love stories! Colt and Layla are one for the record books. ❤️

I didn’t want to like Layla, I really didn’t. She just couldn’t see what the rest of us could see oh so easily. Colt was a KEEPER! Fast forward some period of time, and our young Layla is all grown up and had finally, THANK GOD, gotten a freaking clue!!! Just as I was about to shake some darn

I just found my new fave small town second chance romance! What a beautiful story of forgiveness and true love.

Colt and Layla were the couple everyone envied back in high school, the couple everyone thought would marry and have a happily ever after. Colt thought so too until Layla dropped a bomb on him and left their small town for the big city.

Twelve years and a horrible tragedy later, Layla shows up on Colt’s doorstep. To say their reunion doesn’t go well would be an understatement. Putting b

I have to admit going into this book I was not sure about this heroine. I didn’t like her very much, not because of the choices she made but the way she did it. All I can say is just keep reading. As you get to know her things become clearer. Eek.

Layla starts out a bit of an anti-heroine (is that a thing? Shoulder shrug, it is now. Hee hee) but l love this story. Colt is amazing. My heart breaks for him. I love how human both these characters are and you don’t get over romanized, perfect people

Colt's life if changed forever and now have his niece, Poppy, to care for and can't deal with his old love Layla showing back up in town. These two have so much history together and past mistakes that have yet to be addressed in order for them to move on from the past. Wow! What a roller coaster of a book from lows and even more lows to an amazing ending!

This book starts out with me being so angry at Layla just like Colt was. I felt so sorry for him and I didn't want to like Layla but Jennifer did an amazing job showing us why Layla did what she did and how it wound up being the right thing in the end. She would have always wondered and eventually resented Colt in my opinion. Colt went thru the ringer in this book. I felt so sorry for him and he was definitely

Even though there is sadness in this story it is also filled with so much love, and by love I mean a deeper connection between friends who become family.
Colt was simply amazing. He put the needs of Poppy over his and adjusted to his new normal without a second thought. Layla was perfect for him although I did think she deserved most of what she got! I do feel though that for them to each grow she did make the right decision, as painful as it was for them.
Thank goodness there was a lot of humour

Colt is so amazing. I loved him from the beginning. He's the perfect gentleman and the way he cares for his niece, Poppy, will melt your heart. And your ovaries.

First off….that beginning is where your heart is broken….but soon your heart starts to beat with those butterflies again. This story had me addicted to the words.

Colt Samuelson was heartbroken by a girl….he thought for sure they were forever. A dozen years later he’s living his life exactly how he wanted it. Being the best Uncle and brother. Then something so heartbreaking happens and Colts whole world changes.

Layla comes home after her mother’s accident and her whole world is flipped upside a

Small Town Romance, Second Chance Romance and Single Dad....I am here for it!!!!!! I love reading Jennifer's book because she does small town right. She creates such an amazing character base, you not only fall in love with the main characters but you can't help but fall in love with the rest of the town too. Colt and Layla's story was no different. I was hooked from the first page, and as much as I wanted to dislike Layla, you could feel her hurt and understand why she did what she did. Colt is ...more

I could not put this book down! I was squeezing in any moment I could to see what happened next! This book is a bit of a tearjerker though, right from the start it pulls at your heartstrings. Colt is an out of this world guy. Life dealt him really crappy cards, but he dove in head first without hesitation. Despite the heartache he loved his family and friends fiercely with his whole being. I liked Layla, but it did take me a little longer to warm up to her. She did redeem herself well and while ...more

I am a big fan of single parent books. Especially single parent by chance. Make it small town, second chance romance, and it's even better.

From the beginning, we see the bond between Colton, and his young niece, Poppy. You can feel the love he has for this little girl bleeding from the pages before tragedy strikes, and he becomes her only parent. Colton doesn't really have any family, aside from a large group of friends, along with their spouses and children.

Due to the above mentioned tragedy,

Colt & Layla's story is one of grief, healing, forgiveness, and of course, love! They have issues from the past to work through, & it takes some time. The first half of the story we don't see a lot of them "together." This kind of thing is normally an annoyance for me in stories, but the way it's written, I was invested rather than annoyed, so good job there!!

Poppy is the cutest scene stealer there is! BUT! There is also a surprising scene stealer who, throughout the story, made me laugh and al

Small town romance at its finest! Colt and Layla’s story has it all. High school sweethearts, second chance love, angst, heartbreak, and humor with a dash of spice. I devoured this book in a day. I loved their character development as both individuals and a couple. Layla makes it hard to root for her at the start but she’s able to redeem herself pretty quickly. There is a strong and loveable supporting cast as well. Their relationships and interactions with one another just really help bring hom ...more

After years apart and a sudden turn of tragic events happen these two are back in each other’s lives. Colt is a family man who is loving and loyal and he proved that with his love towards Poppy. This is my first read by this author and I will come back for more. Single dad, Colt has taken on his young niece, not by choice, by tragedy. Pile on an unexpected return of his first love and overall dealing with grief and no clue how to parent an infant, its a roller coaster from day to day. I love "making them shimmer like diamonds in the sun.

This was a great read! Colt and Layla broke my heart and then pieced it back together again. How do you heal after such tragedy? Friends, family, and love. This book has it all. 4 stars because it started a little slow for me, but by the middle I couldn't put it down and sacrificed sleep to get to the happily ever after. Holy heartbreak, Batman! Right from the very beginning this story sucks you in and has you feeling what Colt is feeling. Never Really Over had ALL the emotions. Such a well written small-town, single dad, second chance romance. I wanted to hate Layla because of what she put Colt through. I mean, who could do that to such an amazing man?! But she came through and Colt and Layla were always meant to be. Despite the heartache and tears I shed, I absolutely LOVED this book! 👏👏👏

My heart is still recovering from this incredible story. This small town romance starts with a bang and ends with one as well. You follow these two characters on a emotional journey of finding true happiness and second chances. I love emotional stories and this is one I highly recommend. Plus the writing and character development is too notch. This one will stick with you for a long time after reading and make you feel it all.
