He's come in search of treasure... ...Sydney hates him. Grace loves him... Will he rip mother and daughter apart?
Sydney had it all. Her own successful business in Chicago, doing what she loved. What she was born to do, and then she didn’t. Now, in her second act of life, she’s come back to where it all began. Her plan is simple. No men. No drama. No heartache. She ignored the omens last time. Won’t happen again.
Okay, so the first omen wasn’t great. On the journey home, she’s stopped by the state police. There’s a fugitive on the loose. But that wasn’t really about her. Right? And she’s only got two weeks to open her new business. But hey. That’s not an omen. Is it? Then she finds her old sleazeball, grab hands professor kissing her mother in Grace’s bookstore. Her father’s ghost wants the jerk dead. Grams' ghost wants him gone. That’s not all. The professor is on a treasure hunt, and it’s turning the Village of Moon Lake upside down, bringing undesirables into town, and pitting neighbors against neighbors. Add to that three handsome men vying for Sydney’s attention, and the omens spell one word in capital letters. That word is TROUBLE!

Lucia Kuhl is the author of thirty midlife paranormal cozy mysteries. She believes every story needs at least one ghost, maybe a witch, or possibly an angel. A pet is always good. Talking forest animals are even better. Oh, and a hint of romance while headstrong, opinionated characters mingle.
A few of her women sleuths carry guns. Some only need magic. And her characters never miss a chance to dance. Lucia enjoys exploring tough subjects and lighting them in humorous ways to lessen the sting while showcasing their root issues. Her books contain no sex, strong violence, or profanity.

No. Just no. This book was deadly dull. The bit where the fmc’s mother was dating the man who attempted to rape her daughter in college and continued to date him after she found out about the assault? Gross. The mystery was slow moving to the point of stagnation.
This was a quick, easy read and kept me wanting to read more. The story follows a bit of a treasure hunt turned murder mystery. Nothing was overly surprising in the book but it was still quite enjoyable to watch it unfold.
There were a few things I had issue with but it didn't detract from the overall story. The timeline was a bit hard to follow at times. It would seemingly jump around in the middle of a paragraph and occasionally I had to backtrack to figure out when something happened. I also understand this is the first in the series, but there are many things that are mentioned with no context so we are just left to wonder for an entire book. I want to know more about the past relationship and what broke it apart. She mentions may times the one DNR officer possibly being linked to her ex but we don't even know anything about the ex. So it being mentioned on multiple occasions was slightly annoying.
Overall, there were a lot of interesting aspects introduced in the first book and I really want to see where they all go. I am hopefully that we will get more backstory for our main characters and learn more about all the attractive men milling about in Moon Lake.
Dance artist and teacher, Sydney, is returned home to start over, opening her own dance studio, but first she had to overcome a murder, solve a secret treasure mystery, over come past hurts and past terrors. The writing and plotting are easy to follow, making this a very quick fast read. I liked that Sydney is a strong, independent woman and stands up for herself. I did feel like a had walked into book 2. Without explanation, we’re carrying on conversations with ghosts. Events happen way too fast, with the ghosts helping out. All in all, a fun, non taxing simple read.
This series has potential but the numerous punctuation and grammatical errors riddled throughout has put me off reading any other books by this author. Characters are constantly saying things that should have an exclamation point but have a question mark, there are quotation marks missing on nearly every page, and it’s hard sometimes to follow who is saying what.
Loved this paranormal mystery series. The plot line is interesting and has lots of twists and turns. The characters are well written with just enough quirkiness to make you enjoy them. The mysteries as there are more then one are intriguing and advance the storyline in ways that bode well for an on going series.
Enjoyed the story, characters, and the mystery. Sydney returned to her home town, Moon Lake, from Chicago. She was looking for, among other things, no drama. Not exactly what she found! Follow along to see how she & her companions investigate the happenings in the town. You'll be glad you did!!!
This had me a bit confused, like when I started the book I was missing the actual starting of it. I am missing content. I jumped right in the middle, but it was actually the beginning. Hunh?
I don't know, maybe it's just me. Ya, probably. I'm sure the next book will be better now that I know the characters a bit.
This is a cute story with a good mystery. I couldn’t guess that each person had something to do with it. The one thing was the back story on Sydney. What was she running from? Why was she moving back to the small town she moved away from? The characters were well written emotionally and physically.
I got a little confused with the third person point of view. Didn't know which 'she' you were talking about, names weren't used often enough for me. But that's me. Loved the story regardless!
I enjoyed this story. Just discovered this author, and I am pleased I did. The plot, mystery and characters are good. I will be reading the next book in this series.
Sydney comes home to find a fugitive on the loose in the area and her mother is dating her ex professor. A buried treasure brings strangers to town and trouble. I liked the way the story unfolded and I am looking forward to more.
The interactions and conversations were stilted enough to begin with, but the mom’s (non)reaction to finding about her boyfriend’s attempt to sexually assault her daughter in the past pushed it to the limit.
Well written, with a great cast of characters, both good and bad. An interesting location, and ghosts. I really enjoyed this book, and have high hopes for the other boom. Lucia Kuhl writes a really good story!
This was just okay for me. All the paranormal cozy elements were there, but I wasn’t really drawn into it like I hoped. This will just be a blip in my mind.

I felt like there were so many characters, n I couldn't really tell who was talking sometimes.. it was a good story! I just didn't really get into it..
2024 bk 174. If I had read this series first before the Farm series I might have enjoyed it more. It was like I came back to review a test after taking the test. Not bad, but I felt that the missing pieces were already stored in my head. That said, I did enjoy getting to know the main character as a main character and not in a supporting role.
This is the first book in another paranormal cozy series. I did enjoy this although I really had a hard time understanding how a mom could accept a creep like Edmund after what he did. I loved Aunt Lily and Sydney the main character in the books. I look forward to reading the next book.
