Legacies

Mickey and Katie share a strange bond; Mickey's abuse of alcohol and drugs almost costs his life, and Katie's alcoholic demon is Bob, her father and abuser.

As Mickey faces his mortality, he questions his sexuality, a battle he thought he'd won in his relationship with Jamie. When their one-year liaison crumbled, so did Mickey.

Katie fears her father's threatening presence, always hyper-alert, her hands a daily reminder of his propensity for evil.

Soon, Mickey must face the women in his life - his sister who outed him, and his mother, who rejected him. Then another death rocks his world, and Mickey must seriously explore who he is and assume responsibility for his life.

On Katie's 25th birthday, she must confront her fears and make vital decisions about her future, including the "blood money" inheritance that she doesn't want, but Bob does.

This is a story of two compelling quests of the mind and spirit. Mickey, seeking to find his self-identity, accept his sexuality, and own his maturity. Katie, needing to feel safe, finding her inner courage, and escaping the stranglehold of her abusive father.

Amazing book.

The book name "Legacies" is written by Terri Mitchell. A very interesting storyline, and unique too.

The story is about two young souls who in this world are fighting with their own enigmas of dealing with life situations and holding onto them.

The two main and Central characters of this book are Mickey and Katie. Both of them have their own compelling quests of mind and spirit. The story of these two characters keeps the reader glued with the storyline till the very last page. The way the author has written the whole story is very impressive and catchy. Even though the book is pretty lengthy, it would take a good amount of time to complete it. But it never gets boring.

The guy named Mickey is young and gay. He wasn't gay from the very beginning of his life but discovered his call in his very recent past relationship with a girl. He was about to get married but during the time that he spent with her, he discovered that he was not at all interested in getting intimate with her. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't make the moments between both of them. So, he broke off, but his girlfriend accused him of cheating on her rather than understanding his actual situation.
Later he finds Jamie, a guy who is also gay, even though Jamie was in relationship with a guy named Stephen.

The relationship between Jamie and Mickey was perfect for Mickey, he felt as if he was finally living his life as he should. But things came to an end all of a sudden. Jamie left him, when Stephen died. This sudden change in his life effected Mickey a lot, turning him into a drunkard and drug addict.

Meanwhile the other character is Katie, a fellow student of Mickey. When Mickey and Jamie broke up, Mickey went to meet her. A very unexpected event because they were never so close friends. Katie had her own incidents of life, that she always regretted and feared of. Her biggest fear is her father. He is a total threat to her life. But as much she tries to get away from him, certain events bring him closer to her.

The storyline is how they fight with their own demons of life, while sharing a sweet yet sour relationship with each other.

The storyline is nicely narrated. It's catchy, interesting and full of unexpected turns. It's a very superb work by the author, everyone would certainly love this storyline. The situations are well described, the characters are nicely made-up. Much of it is unpredictable. A very interesting read. The urge to read and know more about the character and their lives is unending.

We all have a part of life which we keep to ourselves and people who we trust. Most of these problems we face tend to approach us when we are adults but not enough experienced. The seed of exploration which we planted long ago is now a grown up now. I recently read book which is a fictional story but is relatable to the young adults. The book I am talking about is called "Legacies". Here's my experience.
I usually start with the title and the cover of the book because I feel that's the most exposed part of the book to the viewer's eyes. When it comes to "Legacies" it has an outer appearance which attracts the viewers and then it is the description that bridges the gap between wanting to read and actually read.
Talking about the content of the book, being almost a 500 page read the book offers a descriptive storyline. When I started reading it was initially expected it to take a few pages to set up the storyline for further plot but the scene where Jamie and Mikey ( characters of the book) were engaged into something when something terrible happens. It was then the story hooked me up. I could sense something mysterious but it was then the story shock me, it then offered a phase which had me going something in my head. The story has 2 main characters, although other supporting characters did their work well I would say situations around which a readers brain creates a loop of thinking which then gives you feeling were created by the supporting characters. Talking about Mickey he is someone I could relate with most. Trust me I could see my best friend in him. The story was so relatable to be may be because some events described in the book have been faced by me personally but still the translation of the words into feelings which hit the reader is exceptional and this book had that quality. Somewhere in the middle the story took a little dip but by then the characters had established a connection with me. The flow while reading it was really smooth. Also the words and language used in the book made it really easy for me to get that smooth flow while reading. The editing was also done nicely which leaves this book with no flaws. Also I have heard somewhere that the book was called lengthy but I would say it wouldn't have been so open about its characters and their life if it would have been short. The core essence was its characters so I would say it is a positive point. This is definitely a thumbs up from my side. At last I would like to thank the author for giving me such an experience through the book. So what are you guys waiting for go grab your copy fast.

“That's the thing about being a victim; you start to think it'll happen to you regularly. It's living with the reality of your vulnerability, and it sucks”. The line as stated shares close relevance with the overall theme that pervades the 482 pages

Delving further, the overall storyline revolves around two characters Mickey and Katie who happen to be the cynosure of the book at hand. The former character has a life the gates of which are slowly closing and he is consumed by his inner demons slowly which have materialized fatally for him compelling him to face them and come to terms with certain facets of life and accept them as it is. The latter character on the other hand is surrounded by the dominating behavior of her father and when alcoholism is added to the equation, the same is not a comforting situation. Throughout the book, the commonality being the urgent need to conquer one's fear and rise above them despite the prevailing impediments

The book has been divided into 40 chapters and the striking aspect is that it sets the overall theme from the very beginning by laying out certain important definitions for us. The first chapter begins by presenting a certain part of Mickey and presents to the reader here a great facet of his life. In addition to it, the second chapter adds to the pace of the plot by presenting the life of Katie and also brings to the surface the need of Mickey that is to be heard by someone without any judgment for both of their lives were laden with conundrums and one of the demons of Mickey that is his alcoholism and substance use comes to the surface in the third chapter. As the chapters progress further, the pace of the plot remains engaging and continues till the 43rd chapter and gives the readers a glimpse of their legacies and similarly giving away some life lessons as well

Review: " You're gonna have to push past your fears, fail over and over again and make a habit of doing things you are not so comfy doing. You're going to have let go of old, limiting beliefs and cling to your decision to create the life you desire like your life depends on it. Because guess what? Your life does depends on it." Greetings! dear readers, the book I've read recently is a really heartwarming story which will definitely uplift you and will help you change your vision. This book by Terri Mitchell is a heartfelt story which revolves around the life of two characters Mickey and Katie, both are living a life they're not happy with and both seek out for a change. Mickey and Katie both know each other well, Mickey has a lot of issues, he is struggling with his life because of his alcohol and drug addiction. Mickey has lost his identity, he also wants to accept his sexuality and come out of all the rejection and seperation he is going through. Katie on the other hand is suffering from the drug and alcohol abuse by her father, she feels insecure and suffocated but she's unable to deal with it. Then comes the time in the lives of the two, when they are finally at the edge of taking a huge step. On her 25th birthday, Katie is planning to take courageous decision and face all her fears. She's also thinking to confront her dad, Bob and think about her future. Mickey, also needs to accept his sexuality and accept himself. This is the story of the two characters finding their ways of life, and trying to reduce the distance of their current life and the life they desire. Turn the pages to be a part of their lives.

Adorable! I love this book! Both Mickey and Katie are full characters with personalities, flaws, character development, and have developed histories. It is easy to get attached. The plot and conflict are entertaining and the entire book covers large social issues of acceptance, bullying, abuse, LGBTQ+ and bigoted people and a coming-out scenario.. and more.

What a beautiful story,....so gut wrenching hearing about Katie's messed up relationship with her abusive father, also Mickey's personal struggle to find his true identity, and admit to the world, he was gay. This is a great story of acceptance and overcoming. I love how this book is written and giving readers a closer look on both the protagonists. Loved it!

My only downfall I found with this book was, it was too short. I wanted more of their story. I needed more. Although in saying that, I would think any length of story on these two character’s would be too short.

I recommend this book for everyone who wants to lose themselves in a story for a few hours.
Do yourself a favour and fall in love with Mickey and Katie.
You won’t be disappointed!!

Terri Mitchell can be congratulated on her moving and uplifting first novel, Legacies. I have to be honest and say I found her book confronting and challenging, but given the subject matter, that is at it should be. Her ability to take we the readers deeply inside the heads, hearts and often harrowing anxiety-riven daily lives of the book's twin lead characters, Katie and Mickey, is remarkable. And yet we stick with them both on their journeys because within them is a constant ray of hope that their lives will turn for the better one day soon....a testament to their new-found courage and sense of self-belief.
