I had been reading the entire series for the past few weeks, and I would say that these novels had been executed quite good. The world building is the best. Too bad i catch up early, now Im hungry for more !!!
The tone and pace is so much more together and fun than in the short-compilation volume 17 :- D
However, every story from the previous volume is referenced and woven into the main thread in a significant manner :>
This is a fun prelude to the Great War between the angels and the devils (天魔大戦).
There are some pretty good twists and some head-scratching frustrations (culminating in a sort of artificial cliff-hanger, which is a standard technique :- p).
Well, here's to waiting until September for the next volume 🥂🍻
First of all world building is as good as always, even though it didn't quite reach the peak of volume 11, but i digress.
The main problem tho for me in this volume is the amount of unexplained plot thread that have been popping out towards the ending of the book, like how Jahil's suddenly already in footman's body? Like whatt? Aren't yuuki and kagali is the most cunning person out there? Why wouldn't they noticed it? Mind you Yuuki is the same guy who is cunning enough to break from michael's domination.
The angels here are also stupid imo. How is the almighty feldway and genius michael over here who's supposed to "never failed in planning for wars" FAILED TWICE BRUH, even Rimuru isn't present in those moment. I mean the first time maybe u can make the argument of Velgrynd's sudden reappearence, BUT WHY THO THEY DIDN'T ACCOUNT THE GUY WHO HAVE THE SKILL OF "ANTI SKILL" CAN BREAK THROUGH A DOMINATION / MIND CONTROL BASED SKILLS. These 2 logical leaps in the biggest downer for me, especially counting Fuze's past cleverness in writting these kinda plot sequences, and just spell lazy writting.
But on the bright this volume shows many interesting dialogue between various factions of octa, angels, etc, many² new dynamics is introduced and they were written in a tidy way that actually expands the existing world here.
Overall would recommend it if you were a fan, but so many skipable parts here and logical leapa there so
4/5 Volume 18 is definitely a step in the right direction after 17 which I’m still not convinced added much to the series. The first half of volume 18 is set up. Chapter 1 being the 2nd Walpurgis Council and all of the demon lords gathering to plan for war. Chapter 2 is Rimiru visiting all of the different nations. He leaves behind some of his defenders and a teleportation hub in each.
The 2nd half is the real story and the first assault of the war. A lot of time is spend with Kagali and the Moderate Jesters. Lots of back story is given and their characters get a lot of development. A lot of big battles going on and we end with a bit of a cliffhanger as the final arc continues.
I love this volume a lot. The scheming in this volume is great. I was shock in so many ways. I'm glad to see that the clowns have a history since the beginning of time. The belief in Rimuru has gotten to strong. This is only the beginning of the battle.
It took me so long to get back into the swing of things. But I’m glad I got to finish this and I loved every bit of it Truly stresses about Leon but I mean, I figured it was going to happen but never did I imagine any of the other things. This story keeps me on my toes on to volume 19!
50/50 on progressing the story and comedic filler. main take away is the origin of the moderate jesters, and neat details that have been left unexplained until now. Funny moments with Diablo are always welcomed.

I'm kinda mad at rimuru... why he just sit there... A volume with a lot of yapping and only a bit of shit actually happening but besides from chapter 2 it was pretty good
Great volume. I still freaking love Diablo. That's my demon bias, but that ending. Y'all can't leave me hanging like that. I need the next volume NOW!!!
The start of the book was slow. A lot of build up happened to truly start the kick off to what is going to be one epic finale to this series. I cannot wait to see where the story goes next volume.
