This is an extremely well written tale with a lot of realism and family entanglements as well as a great horse story. Ideal for 12 - 16 year olds, especially girls.
Melanie loses her pony when she leaves a bolt open and the pony is struck by a car. I don't think my parents would have gone straight out and bought me a very valuable palomino foal, but hers did. Perhaps they do things differently in America.

Got this book when I was very young and loved it right away. I've read it numerous times over the years - it's a nostalgia thing but also just a good story!

I feel a little bit embarressed - I absolutely loved this book :)

It's about a girl called Melanie and her palomino stallion, Orbit. If you forget for an instant that a young stallion is not really an appropriate ride for a child, then the book is really enjoyable.
