#1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery writes heartwarming and humorous novels about the relationships that define women's lives—family, friendship, romance. She's best known for putting nuanced characters into emotionally complex, real-life situations with twists that surprise readers to laughter. Because Susan is passionate about animal welfare, pets play a big role in her books. Beloved by millions of readers worldwide, her books have been translated into 28 languages.

Critics have dubbed Mallery "the new queen of romantic fiction." (Walmart) Booklist says, "Romance novels don't get much better than Mallery's expert blend of emotional nuance, humor, and superb storytelling," and RT Book Reviews puts her "in a class by herself!" It's no wonder that her books have spent more than 200 weeks on the USA Today bestsellers list.

Although Susan majored in Accounting, she never worked as an accountant because she was published straight out of college with two books the same month. Sixteen prolific years and seventy-four books later, she hit the New York Times bestsellers list for the first time with Accidentally Yours in 2008. She made many appearances in the Top 10 before (finally) hitting #1 in 2015 with Thrill Me, the twentieth book in her most popular series, the Fool's Gold romances, and the fourth of five books released that year.

Susan lives in Washington state with her husband, two ragdoll cats, and a small poodle with delusions of grandeur. Her heart for animals has led Susan to become an active supporter of the Seattle Humane Society. Visit Susan online at www.SusanMallery.com.

I had problems with this book, there were some things that wigged me out, like a really dumb move by the heroine at the end and a part in the start when the really suspicious hero drugs her, which I found was kind of violating and I liked the fact that the heroine told him that and that he was remorseful and filled with self-loathing for projecting his image of a rich spoiled woman on her.

So, the hero rescues the kidnapped heroine, he's been hired by her father and husband but when he talks to her, she refuses to go back to her family and tells him that she is divorced and that she knows her ex kidnapped her. The hero doesn't believe her but his instincts tell him something is not right and her story checks out and then there is the scar on her face and the loathing she has for her ex.

The heroine used to be a spoiled rich girl but her marriage changed that, she evolved and started working which her husband didn't like and then she saw his ugly side and left. Her father was someone I hated, he was so absorbed in his work that he ignored his daughter, let a psycho near her and believed his stories about her being as mentally weak as her mother.

It took me a while to like the hero, he was hurtful and bitter at the heroine for no good reason at the start but after the drug incident he changed, offered to do whatever she wanted and even to leave so that she could be comfortable, which I appreciated.

The villain was really creepy in the book, I mean his reach was astounding.
In the end I enjoyed this book to varying degrees, I liked it, disliked it, a mixed bag.

No es una historia de amor comun. Tanto Melody, como Tanner, y hasta incluso Christopher estan bastante bien caracterizados. Tal vez peca por ser una historia corta.

It is not an ordinary love story. Both Melody, Tanner, and even Christopher are quite well characterized. Maybe sin for being a short story.

Really good book. Tanner and his security firm are hired to rescue Madison from those that have kidnapped her. Tanner just wants to get her out, return her to her family, and move on. To him, she's just another useless rich woman. That all changes once the rescue happens. Madison was actually kidnapped by her ex-husband, who needs the ransom money for his own nefarious purposes. She knows he was behind it, and that if she is sent back she will end up dead. However, convincing the cynical Tanner isn't easy.

I really liked Madison a lot. She freely admits that she used to be the spoiled and useless rich girl that Tanner accuses her of being. However, her marriage opened her eyes and she made the conscious decision to make changes in her life. She also had an uphill battle with her father and husband, both of whom believed that she was weak and likely to suffer the same mental illness as her mother. She was much stronger than even she believed, and I loved seeing her stand up for herself against Tanner's prejudices.

Tanner was a bit harder to like at the beginning. His refusal to look beyond his own beliefs about Madison was really irritating. Even when she told him the truth about her kidnapping he didn't want to believe her. He earned some points back when he checked out some of what she told him and found out she was telling the truth, so he promised to protect her until he was certain of everything.

I enjoyed seeing the relationship develop between them. The sparks were there from the beginning, though they were antagonistic at the start. I loved seeing Madison push back against Tanner's attitude instead of just taking it. In spite of his attitude toward her, she felt safe with him. Tanner was fighting his own attraction to her, which caused him to overreact to something he found on her computer. What he did then was wrong on so many levels, and I really liked that she told him so when she recovered. He did redeem himself when he admitted that he was wrong, and his attitude toward her started to changed at that point. His protectiveness became personal rather than professional, and that scared him. When everything was over, he told her that her feelings were because of the danger they had been in, not for real. That if she still felt that way in six months, they'd talk. It was hilarious to see the way that she didn't sit back and take that, but kept trying to reach him. The ending was great as he finally faced his fears. I loved their big moment at the end.

The suspense of the story was great, with Tanner and Madison working together to bring down her ex-husband Christopher. What he was doing was definitely scary, as it had a touch of realism to it. I will admit to some frustration with Madison toward the end, as Christopher pulled some really underhanded tricks to get what he wanted. Unfortunately, he knew Madison well enough to know what buttons to push, which caused her to do something really stupid. Of course, Tanner comes through to save her yet again.

I absolutely loved one of the secondary characters in the book. Tanner's friend and coworker, Angel, is the team sniper. He also seems to be the second in command, and is Madison's point of contact at the end when she's trying to get to Tanner. I loved the friendship they built and Angel's part in bringing them back together. Angel gets his very own story in When We Met, a Fool's Gold book that takes place years later.

Not your typical alpha male/weak female story. The alpha male wasn't afraid to admit when he was wrong and the heroine was a strong woman who learned to be even stronger. Nice twist towards the end...

Suspense filled story about a woman kidnapped by her ex-husband who has trouble getting her rescuer to believe her. Tanner is very believable as he wends his way through the internet and the rest of the security team dig up data on the ex-husband who is paying them to return his "wife". Except for Madison's stupidity at the end of the book, I enjoyed this one immensely. Every time I put it down, I was anxious to pick it up again to see what would happen next.

This is a great romantic suspense. Tanner rescues Madison from her kidnappers but then Madison's got her work cut out to convince him that all is not what it seems and she doesn't want to go home. As Tanner searches for the truth, he realizes that he not only believes Madison but respects her and cares for her in a way he never thought possible . . .

I have reread this so many times. I wish she would write more of this kind of story.
