Awakening is a fast paced rollercoaster that will surprise you at every turn. I enjoyed this book because it was hard to predict and the characters were interesting and likable, plus any book where a girl kicks butt is awesome! When I was nearing the end of the book I was wishing for more to the story so I am very happy to learn this is a series and there will be more of Zoe and her adventures.
This book reminds me a lot of I Am Number Four by James Frey, Jobie Hughes, and Pittacus Lore, with al

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest and fair review.

Zoe Dixon's family is different. Relocating every few months due to her parents work in a top-secret government job her life is anything but normal. Castle Rock Colorado should have been the same as every relocation, but soon Zoe will be forced to choose between a friend and her family. One thing is for sure, her life will never be the same.

When I first started Awakening I was nervous I would end up not liking i

While it is hard sometimes to read new writers as an author myself, I was pleasantly surprised by the strength of Awakening, especially from Chapter two on. I found myself mentally tweaking the beginning to make it stronger, but then I got into the following Chapters and was drawn into the story with no problem. The family dynamic from the beginning is strange, and yet all of it works for what is about to come next.

The pace of this book ramps up rather quickly from the mundanities of Zoe and Mia

Zoe and Mia Dixon would be starting at a new school in the morning, their 17th in five years. She just wanted to eat dinner and go to her room to read, but Tuesday is game night and they won’t let her pass that up. By the time they laughed and joked through dinner, even game night didn’t seem so bad. She headed to the game, walking up to the solid-metal door under the stairs, having her prints scanned, entering an 18-digit code which was changed every 3 days on the keypad, and finally hurrying t ...more

There are many things about this book that work well as a YA book. Poppy Williams doesn't beat about the bush when she throws you straight into what is about to happen. The main character, Zoe reminds me of Alex Rider, Carmen Santiago or a young Black Widow. She's capable but also still has this naivety about the world she lives in. The pacing of this book is fast and action-packed, however I wished that it took a breather at times for character development or relationship building.

When I came across this author on TikTok speaking about her debut novel and offering ARCs, I jumped on the chance! Zoe Dixon appears like your normal 16 year old girl from the outside. But she's the daughter of two intelligence agency parents who has been training for bad-assery since she was 5 years old.

What I liked about the book: I was kept guessing until the very end. Be forewarned, it does end on a cliffhanger. It was fast paced and full of surprises. Zoe is a likeable character even when

4.5/5 stars – I received this book as my very first ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Because of their parents’ mysterious government job, Zoe and her sister Mia were raised to fight and protect themselves from a young age. They’ve also picked up some very useful skills along the way. They’re about to start another new school, and they have a pact with each other – no personal connections with anyone because they’re constantly moving around. This pact becomes complicated for Zoe as soon as s

There’s so much about about this book that is so fun! It’s like a ramped up version of Spy Kids, except the kids are better spies than the parents. I tonight Zoe was a really interesting character, and the twist in the plot line in the second half was so well done! I truly didn’t see it coming.

The book is, however, very fast paced. I would’ve liked a bit more background and world building. The plot was so quick moving that it was difficult to understand the relationships between the parents and

This fast-paced, murder/mystery/action/adventure was a quick and entertaining read.

Zoe and Mia Dixon are sisters who've grown up in an, unconventional, fashion. They have skills no normal 17-year-olds would normally possess.

Filled with quick action, you'll stay engaged in this story of Zoe and Corey as they work to solve the mystery of a murder at their school.

I loved the premise. Loved that the main character is a girl and a person of color. Loved the representation of her 'sidekick' as a guy.

This is a great 1st novel.

I normally read fantasy, ya contemporary\mistery is not my thing. But this book got me attached to the page from the first word. That finale... 💥💥

This is the story of Zoe Dixon, a teenage girl with a peculiar set of skills, upon moving to a new city, she finds herself in a though situation that will force her to choose whether or not put her training to use.

I swear this will hook you up from the beginning.

I would also like to point out that it's an "easy red". I mean: E

A fantastic debut novel! This was type of book I love. It's gripping, mysterious and fast-paced. There's a great setting, great MC and great build up.
From the beginning, the reader is immediately immersed in the not so average life of Zoe Dixon and her family. The sense of intrigue and suspense begins from quite early on and for this reason I could not put it down! I just HAD to know what was happening. I'd definitely recommend it for fans of A Good Girl's Guide to Murder and One of Us is Lying

I received this ebook as an ARC and this is my honest opinion.

I thought this was such an amazing read! Zoe Dixon is a strong, female main character who I found to be super inspiring and badass and I wish I could be like her! Usually I read books with a lot of world building and a lot of background history but this book was like a breath of fresh air since it was so quick and fun to read! Poppy Williams' writing style is very easy to read and engaging and I can't wait to read more from this saga

Wow, this was an amazingly action packed story that was gripping from beginning to end. Zoe Dixon is not like other 16 year olds and is a deadly weapon. This is an amazing origin story of a hero that I can not wait to continue reading! The only real complaint was that it was short and I wanted more! This also feels like a great book for a teen who may not be super into books, it’s super action packed, easy to read, and not super long at all. I can not wait to continue Zoe’s story in the next boo ...more

This thrilling adventure is a can’t miss. The book starts with an overwhelming sense of ordinary, only to be obliterated further on every page after chapter 1.

This book captivates every step of the way. It is full of action-packed scenes written to perfection. While many first-time authors fail to produce compelling fight scenes, Poppy could not have written them more perfectly. The pacing is quick and impactful but stays true to the analytical mind of the main character.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Awakening is a fast-paced fun read with unexpected twists and turns. I read this aloud to my daughter and she was fully invested, as was I.

Zoe is a fierce leading female character. Her budding relationship with new friend, Corey, is super cute and I love how it develops throughout the story.

Awakening is the perfect beginning to an exciting series, which I could see sitting on the shelves along with Nacy Drew, Charlotte Holmes, and The Gall

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review.

First, I need to say this book got me out of a reading slump after finishing the ACOTAR series.

I am obsessed with Zoe, her kindness and strength are so important to a strong female lead. I loved the descriptive action and the sister interactions. Zoe’s love for Narnia hit me right in the heart because it’s one of my favorite book series!

All in all, the book was well written, fast paced, and exciting to read! I look forwar

Wow! What a great story with twists and turns. Zoe Dixon will amaze and drive you nuts but in a good way. She's a main character that I can relate to. I love the book and pop references! It is a must-read. I need to escape but feel a connection to this reality. This is that book.

The first couple of pages were a bit slow, but then a twist happens. If you have a hard time getting past the first page or so, get to the end of game night, and you will be hooked.

Happy Reading!!

Awakening is a story of two adopted sisters who were trained to be excellent fighters. Their parents told them it was to keep them safe. Zoe and Mia take very different paths when life changes for them.
I really enjoyed this book. I think it is a great YA story and perfect for YA readers who love thrillers and a little mystery.

I really liked this book. I’ve been in a reading slump lately, short attention span, and this book was fast paced enough to keep me engaged. I liked the different characters and the plot twists. I would have liked for some more background information. I hope we get more about Zoe’s upbringing in the next book. I am looking forward to the next book to see where this goes.
