When you're labeled as a Hollywood Playboy, you can’t do anything right.

I can’t go out for a simple drink without the press having a field day.

You also can’t ditch the playboy title no matter how hard you try.

And I definitely can’t help my coworker’s wife home when she gets too drunk without the studio threatening my contract.

So my manager sends me across the country to a small little beach town. He rents out the whole Sunrise Inn since it’s offseason and I’m told to stay out of trouble.

Easy enough until I get a look at the curvy bombshell of an Inn owner.

Then a storm blows through and washes out the only bridge out of town. Now we are stuck together on the island.

When a steady relationship seems to be the only way to save my career can I convince Lin that pretending to be girlfriend will be a great PR move for the Inn too?

Too bad my heart didn’t listen that this was just a fake relationship.

With my job in Hollywood and my heart at the Sunrise Inn what the hell am I going to do?

A safe and cute romance read, well written with likeable characters.
Slow burn romance between Lin, the inn owner, and Kade, the famous movie star.
There were plenty of descriptions and details that tired me and a little drama, however it was an easy and sweet story.

This duet consists of two stories, but can be read as standalones. Sunrise has Lin’s story and Sunset the story of Lin’s best friend, Brynn.

4.5 Star review of Sunrise (Chasing The Sun Duet #1) by Kaci Rose
Having read a couple of books by Kaci Rose I was excited to read the Chasing The Sun duet. Sunrise is an entertaining read that will draw you in and keep you invested in the story that Ms.Rose wove about Kade and Linly (Lin).
Kade is known in Hollywood as a playboy and no matter how hard he tries he cannot do the right thing. When his manager sends him to Sunrise Inn, Hummingbird Island to hide out and avoid the latest controversy, Kade is frustrated. Lin is the woman who owns and runs the Sunrise Inn and Kade is attracted to her.
When they are marooned on the island thanks to a storm their attraction sizzles to life. When Kade’s mother suggests that perhaps a fake relationship he might help his reputation, he immediately thinks of Lin.
Can Kade convince Lin to be his pretend girlfriend, to help repair his reputation? What will happen when fake becomes real? The friendship and banter between them was heart warming and I found myself laughing out loud on occasion.
I love stories set in small towns and with such descriptive writing I could easily picture Main Street and Hummingbird Island. The secondary characters, particularly Lin’s best friend Brynn (who runs the Sunset Inn) and Jasper were easy to relate to and engaging.
This is a story of love, family and friendship and ticked the boxes for me.

Hollywood has nothing on Hummingbird Island
This book is about Linly and Kade. She owns and runs the Sunrise Inn on a small North Carolina Island, and her best friend Brynn owns and runs the Sunset Inn next door. Kade is renting out the entire Sunrise property for a couple of weeks. Kade is allegedly the hottest, playboy-type movie star around, and is being forced to take a quiet break away from Hollywood and the current (false) rumours about him and his co-star’s wife.
Kade’s manager Wren has some big demands that are a bit over the top. And Linly (with the support of Brynn), is to be the one to cater for his every want and need during his stay. From the start of the first chapter, I knew what kind of character Linly would be – a strong and spunky woman that would give this movie star a run for his money! It was going to be a fun ride!
When he finally arrives at the inn, he’s taken aback by the beauty of the place – and not just the building or its location, but the gorgeous blonde behind the front desk! And when her eyes finally meet his, she too is instantly enamoured by him! It’s the Kade Markson effect she’s heard about before. Their early banter is sweet and funny, especially as he assigns her the ‘Goldie’ nickname. And when she leaves him in his suite to get settled, she takes the sunlight with her. He was smitten already!
This was a really enjoyable read that I could hardly put down. I just needed to know what happened next! There are lots of ups and downs, mixed emotions and both complex and simple relationships. Both characters had great support in those they call family, and many others that tried to cause trouble and hurt. But knowing who to truly trust was key.
This was a sweet and steamy, sad and happy story. And I felt like I was there with them! (especially when they were talking about collecting sea glass, which I also love to do). I was disappointed it ended so quickly, but now I cannot wait for Brynn’s story. And knowing how close the two girls are, I just know that we’ll get to revisit both Lin and Kade again. I give this book four and three quarter hideaway stars.

If you are looking for an entertaining, heartwarming, fun read look no further than Sunrise.
Kade has fast become known as a Hollywood playboy and it seems what ever he does he can’t shake that image so his manager sends him to hide out for a few weeks at the Sunrise Inn on Hummingbird Island which is run and owned by Linly (Lin). Kade is instantly attracted to Lin and when a fake relationship is suggested to overcome his image Lin is the first woman who comes to mind but convincing her is to be his fake girlfriend is not going to be easy.
Will Lin help Kade repair his reputation and what happens when feelings come into play.....
I loved everything about this book, I laughed, I giggled, I swooned and I sighed as I found myself hoping this couple get the HEA they both deserved. The characters are adorable, their story is heartwarming and I was captivated by this wonderful read centred on love, family and friendship.

This was another sweet story by Kaci Rose. I really enjoy enjoy reading books from this author. I love her writing style and how much her characters grow throughout the story.

Linley owns the Sunrise Inn in a small coastal town in North Carolina. She began owning the Sunrise Inn after the death of her parents. She is a strong woman who does not need any help from a man. Her best friend, Brynn, owns the Inn next door, the Sunset. When the movie star playboy, Kade, decides to rent out the entire Sunrise to get away for a while a friendship forms between the two. When they both realize that a fake relationship would help out Kade's reputation and help Lin with advertising the Sunrise, they decide to do it. Little did they know how much the feelings would become real.

I really enjoyed this story. I enjoyed Linley's character the most. She is strong women that has had to overcome a lot in a short amount of time. She took control of the Inn and had to overcome the death of her parents. She learned a long time ago to only relay on herself and her best friend. Kade is trying to overcome him playboy image, but no one believes that he has really changed. When he meets Linley all bets are off. He is really attracted to her, but yet still goes slow and takes his time. I really enjoyed the dual point of view with this book because they were both thinking the small thing but were too scared to voice it.

This was a really sweet story and I cannot wait for Brynn's story, Sunset to come out!

I am a huge fan of this author. I have pretty much read all her stand alone stories and I really adore her writing and the characters, This is book 1 in a series of two books but each book can stand alone. In this story we meet Kade, who is a movie star with a playboy rep and Lin who lives in a small town/island on the North Carolina shore, Hummingbird Island and runs an inn called Sunrise Inn with her bestfriend, Brynn who lives next door at the Sunset Inn.

Sunrise is Kade and Lin's story and Sunset is Brynn and Jasper's story. I adored this story a lot and I cannot wait for the second book because it looks really awesome as a second chance at romance.

In this story Kade is playboy movie star who needs a break from the press and so his agent arranges for him to stay at Sunrise Inn as their only guest. He meets Lin and sees that she is different from the start. They form a friendship and this is a slow burn type of story and I really enjoyed getting to know the island and watch as Kade and Lin fall for each other but also discover the magic of Hummingbird Island.

There is a side story about the mayor wanting to change the islands main street and Lin and Brynn try and stop him. This is a plot point that will continue in Sunset.

We also meet Jasper in this story. He has a love/hate thing with Brynn and he ends up working at the Inn as a chef as he helps Brynn when the Inn loses its chef. All three of them, Jasper, Brynn and Lin grew up together and were best friends until things went bad for Brynn and Jasper and they broke up, Now he is back in town to help his mom after his father passes away.

This was a really laid back type of romance and more of friends to lovers type of story in a very small town. Its the perfect story to read by the pool or at the beach. Its centered on family and love and friendship and appreciating what you have and being there for each other.

I received a free ARC copy of this book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is the first book from this author... And I am a fan. Its such a sweet laid back type of romance of 2 individuals who have a past story. I consider it a friends to lovers in a setting of very small town/island.

We have Kade… your Hollywood "playboy" who can't get away from being in the tabloids. When he is captured taking home a costar's wife... AND even though it's innocent & not what it appears, the press take it & twist the truth. With this... he is sent off to the other side of the country to get away and stay out of the public eye for some time. His manager books him a 2wk stay at the Sunrise Inn (the entire inn is booked to give him privacy).

Our leading lady, Linly (aka Lin)... owns the Sunrise Inn on a small island in North Carolina. She and her best friend Brynn (who owns the Inn next door, the Sunset) took over the Inns at a young age when both their parents died in a tragic shipwreck. When she gets a call from Kade's manager to book the entire inn and to ensure Kade's privacy... she is everything but thrilled. But little did she know this Hollywood "playboy" is more than what you read in the tabloids.

Upon meeting... attraction & chemistry between the two is undeniable... Lin & Kade end up forming a friendship and each day, spend more & more time together. It is a slow burn type of story so watching Kade and Lin fall for each other was something you were rooting for and could feel. Though their relationship was only supposed to be temporary, with Kade going back to his life & career in Hollywood, both fight falling deeper for each other. But when the time comes... can they both walk away from each other?

I received this as an arc for my honest review

This was another wonderful story by Kaci Rose. She just has a way of perfectly blending a sweet and emotional story with steamy and passionate scenes that just makes me not want to ever put down her books.

I loved how the relationship between Kade and Lin developed. The fake relationship trope is a favorite of mine especially when it’s done as well as this is.

I also loved how perfectly this story sets up the second part of the duet. We get to know both Brynn and Jasper. And I’m really looking forward to see how they get their second chance.

A fake relationship, some laugh out loud moments and an inspiring love story!

Linly (aka Lin) is a very strong, independent, smart, beautiful woman who took over the family inn after her parents died. Her best friend Brynn is the same and she runs the inn next door (Brynn’s story is book two of the “Chasing the Sun Duet”). Lin has agreed to rent her entire inn to a “Hollywood Playboy” (Kade) so he can chill and be hidden from the press. When he arrives to check in, he sees Lin and has one of those moments that make you think love at first sight.

Since Kade is not supposed to go anywhere he maybe recognized, he spends a lot of time at the inn and on the beach. He gets to know Lin and they become friends. Trying to clean up his image, Kade gets the idea to fake a relationship to help his reputation and also bring more guests to the inns and the small town.

When Lin and Kade take a stroll down Main Street, you can picture the scene in your mind just by the way it is described. Ms. Rose has done an excellent job of defining the inns and the small town around them. She has also created some wonderful side characters, especially the townsfolk who support Lin 100%. The relationship between Kade and his parents is wonderful, I loved how his mom brought up a fake relationship idea to Kade and how Kade turns to them when he needs advice. It’s great to have positive parent/adult child relationships represented.

We also get to know a little about how Lin grew up and she had supportive parents as well but losing them when she was 20 leaves her feeling alone. But she has Brynn the super best friend, confidant, and person who will stay up with Lin all night if there is a thunderstorm. They work so well together, grew up together, and consider each other family. Once again, Ms. Rose is giving us a positive spin on a relationship.

I enjoyed reading Lin and Kade’s story and I hope to see a little of them in the next book “Sunset” when Brynn and Jasper get to tell their story.

***THIS BOOK DOES NOT END ON A CLIFF HANGER****

Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly flow the days
Seedlings turn overnight to sunflowers
Blossoming even as they gaze

Whenever I think of the song Sunrise, Sunset, it brings a smile to my face and a warm feeling inside, and that is the same feeling I get when I now think of Sunrise by Kaci Rose and even as I write this review, I am smiling broadly, remember all the wonderful individual pieces in this book that have merged to bring us a truly great swoon-worthy romance.

Since the sudden death of both Lin and her best friend Brynn's parents, they have taken over the running of the Inns owned by their parents. Sunset Inn and Sunrise Inn, sit next to each other on Hummingbird Island, (up next is Brynn's story in Sunset). When in the off-session Lin's Inn is booked out by none other than bad boy Hollywood actor Kade Markson things may never be the same again. Kade hasn't been a bad boy in over a year, but trying to tell the studio that and when yet another untrue article hits the internet it is time for him to lie low for a while. Kade wasn't expecting to fall in love with the quiet of Hummingbird Island or to be attracted to the beautiful Lin. But Kade is only around for a while but will he leave his heart on the Island when it is time to go. Lin was all geared up for a Hollywood heartthrob who was brash and conceited, she wasn't expecting to spend time with the real Kade, and how will her heart cope when he returns to the bright lights of Hollywood.

This isn't only Kade and Lin's story, I loved how we got to know Brynn and I am intrigued as to her and Jasper's 2nd chance story up next.

Sunrise and Sunset Inns work together on this small tourist island, run by best friends Lin and Brynn after their parents were killed together in a freak storm.

This is Lin's story and the story of all things Sunrise. But first we need to start with playboy Hollywood actor Kade. Kade needs a place to hide out after a bashing in the press. He hasn't been living up to his playboy reputation for over a year but he can't shake no matter what he does. His manager books out Sunrise Inn for him to keep a low profile. When a storm wipes out the bridge, he has to stay longer than planned but that's ok because Lin is occupying his thoughts and he has a proposal for her. Be his pretend girlfriend, help his image, and raise the inns' profile. What he gets is so much more. He gets someone is looking out for his best interests and not his money. He gets someone who stands up for him, and is passionate.

Lin sees the benefits for the inns by going along with the plan...in fact Lin is the one who suggests it. But with her ex stuck on the island and the Mayor wanting to bring a shopping development to the island she has her hands full. But she is passionate about what she believes in and is not afraid of hard work. She also doesn't bow down to Kade because of his star status. She challenges him and he her.

This was a good read. A fake relationship always delights me because of the way it becomes real. I look forward to coming back and reading Brynn's story.

I really enjoyed this book. Kade is a famous actor who needs to clean up his image, even though he has been trying to unsuccessfully the last year his manager decides he needs to get out of the limelight for a while so he ends up on Hummingbird Island where he meets Lin, the owner of the inn he is staying at and he can’t take his eyes off her. Lin thinks Kade is attractive and does feel a connection with him however she knows his type and isn’t interested in being just another woman. She manages to keep her distance until she pretends to be Kades girlfriend, to help improve Kades image but also gain more attention and business for her Inn, it’s win win for both of them...until Lin catches feelings. She see’s a completely different side to Kade and knows she is starting to fall for him however when he leaves town without saying goodbye she is brokenhearted, no matter what their deal was. Kade has returned to his old life and is on set making another film, but nothing is like it used to be and all he wants is to be back on Hummingbird Island with Lin but he doesn’t know how to make right everything that he has done wrong. I loved these characters and thought the connection between them was amazing. I loved the humour in the book and it actually had me laughing out aloud at parts. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

Kaci has your heart feeling all warm and fuzzy with this sweet romance that has a couple of heartbreaks as well.
Linly and Brynn run their parent's inns, Sunrise Inn and Sunset Inn, on Hummingbird Island. They both lost their parents at a young age, due to a boating accident. Linly gets an email stating some big hotshot playboy movie star wants to rent out the Sunrise Inn for two weeks, only stipulation is that no other guest can be there and there has to minimal staff. The money is something that she cannot pass up, so she agrees.

Kade is the so-called playboy movie star that needs to shake his playboy image. When he walks into the inn he is taken back by the beautiful lady behind the counter. Will he be able to keep it professional for two weeks? Will his playboy past catch up with him in this tiny town?

They come up with a plan that benefits both of them but what consequences will it cause? Will hearts be broken on the island and all over the world?

Kaci has you falling in love with Linly and Kade right from the beginning. She has a way of writing that grips your feeling and has them riding an emotional rollercoaster. The character development was outstanding and you feel the both of them grow together.

This is the first in the Chasing the Sun Duet and I cannot wait for Sunset, the second one. This book and author are definitely additions to your TBR list.

This one was cute. I loved how the friends, Lin and Brynn, worked their properties together, loved their history of friendship and how they had each other when their worst day happened. It was easy to see Brynn sort of egg on Lin when Kane entered the picture, she was so easy going, fun loving and figured this could be good for her friend and good for their shared business.

I wasn't sure about Kane at the start, not sure if he could deal with this quiet time, but he really took to it. I also wasn't sure about the "fake relationship" figured what happened would, Lin getting in too much. But when they were allowed the time to spend together, to get to know each other, these 2 were great! I loved how Kane saw the relationship between Lin and Brynn as a good thing and did nothing to harm it, but helped it along and gave them space as needed.

I hated how when the bridge was back, Kane left, he should have at least said goodbye, it would have been better for them both. But Kane also needed to go back to his "Hollywood" life and see that he was beyond that, that what he found in the small beachside town was more him.

The ending was great! Loved the grand gesture that Kane made with help from Brynn, nice to see them both get what was important to them!

This was a beautiful story of loss, friendship, finding love, and enduring in difficult times. Kade is a big-time movie star that needs to reboot his reputation since he has been labelled Hollywood’s biggest playboy, so he heads to Sunrise Inn. Sunrise Inn is ran by Linly, who with the help of her best friend runs both Inns that were left to them after the tragic deaths of their parents. Linly is smart, motivated, and takes nothing from the Hollywood heartthrob that shows up at her inn. Kade and Lin have an immediate chemistry, but she wants nothing to do with his playboy ways, so he has to prove to her that what the media says isn’t the real him. These two embark on a journey to help each other out, but feelings become real and makes things hard to decipher reality and a fake relationship. Kade was an utterly amazing man when he got back to his roots and lost the movie star façade and Lin was the perfect match for him. I loved the other characters too because the bonds and friendships they had were one of a kind. I can’t wait to find out what happened between Brynn and Jasper. I love this small town, the romances, and all of it!!

Lin took over her family's Sunrise Inn after her parents died, and what makes it even better, her bestie has the Sunset Inn right next door so they have some awesome times in life. Kade is one of the most recognized men on the planet, and he's sent away to the Sunrise Inn when his mistakes are played out in the press so his manager has rented the whole place for him to stay off the radar of the paps for a time in this small beach town. He didn't count on the sexy Lin being the owner there, and there's instantly a connection but it's not an insta situation. They become friends first as they get to know each other, then he comes up with a fake relationship plan to help her get more business & help his reputation as well. However, somewhere down the line feelings started getting caught but they're in different places in their lives of course so there's an expiration date on anything they develop. AND there's an underlying situation brewing, but it will continue on in Lin's bestie's book Sunset coming, and I'm super excited! Don't miss out on this story as I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Kade enjoys his career as an actor but not the media attention that goes along with it as although he may be no angel, he is not quite the devil that the press has made him out to be. When his attempt to help backfires his manager decides he needs to put some distance between himself and the media scrutiny he is facing which is how he ends up at the Inn that Lin owns.

After the death of her parents Lin has taken over the Inn they owned so having Kade as a renter will help her financially but she isn’t sure about his reputation. After spending some time together, they come to an arrangement which will help her with the Inn and him with his reputation. They never expected to develop feelings for each other but is there any way to turn what was supposed to be a fling into forever?

Despite their very different lifestyles the connection between Kade and Lin went far beyond the physical and they will have to decide truly matters in life and love. I enjoyed seeing the relationship between Kade and Lin unfold, and I am looking forward to Brynn’s story.

I absolutely adored this story, it's sweet with a little bit of spice. Linley and Brynn both run adjacent inns together and when Kade rolls into town renting out Lin's entire inn there is definite attraction. Lin and Kade begin a fake relationship to help him with his public image and they both explore a relationship together. To the outside world, they are the perfect couple. To them, they know it's fake, but the attraction is strong. When time comes for Kade to leave he will have to decide how fake this relationship really was.

The plot was amazing and each secondary character brought something unique to this story and really helped pull off that small town vibe. There is also plenty of drama and twists and turns that kept me reading on and had me finishing this in a single day. This is a complete standalone and I am looking forward to the second in this duet that features Brynn's story.

the tabloids

Kade is known as the Playboy and can not do anything without the press making it worse that it really is.
Linly runs the Sunrise Inn that her parents did before her.
Kade is stuck in California trying clear up something that the press wrote but can not get in front of it so his manager suggests getting away for a while for a couple weeks to let the press find something else to report on.
He ends up renting out the entire Sunrise Inn and loving the quiet serene time he experiences.
Linly agree to help him enjoy his time on the island and even though it is supposed to be no strings attached while Kade is there, how can she not with his personality.
One thing leads to another and things get complicated.
Hope you enjoy this fantastic read as much as I have and can not wait for the next book to come out.

I read an early review copy of this book for an honest review.

Taking a break to get rid of his Hollywood playboy image and boost his career, Kade lands in the Sunrise inn on Hummingbird Island and meets innkeeper Linly (Lin). Because he needs to change his image, they pretend to be in a relationship. When the bridge to and from the island collapses, due to bad weather, they have all the time in the world to get to know each other. And suddenly this relationship doesn’t feel fake anymore. So when after a few weeks the bridge is repaired and there’s the chance for Kade to return to Hollywood, will that be the breakup they initially had planned?

Great story! I loved the characters and de description of the island. And I’m really looking forward to Brynn’s story in the next book, Sunset.

I received an arc of this book and this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Finding True Love Unexpectedly -
Kade was forcefully sent on a vacation because of a misunderstanding that was blown out of proportions by the media, but little did he know that it was a journey that would change his life forever. Linly had been leading a very quiet life managing her bed and breakfast, however, everything changed when Kade arrived and turned her boring life around. Unfortunately, whilst they agreed to a fake relationship, their chemistry was explosive and caused them to heat up the sheets.

If you want to read a book that will light up your day, then I suggest you get this heartwarming story, with enough steam moments to get you excited and a storyline that will truly melt your heat.

I really liked this romantic story set on the beautiful Hummingbird Island. I also liked the idea of the two inns, Sunrise and Sunset run by family friends and now their daughters since the parents are all gone due to a tragedy.

It was cute how Kade thought of Linly as Goldie and she sometimes called him Hollywood. I really liked these two characters a lot and Linly's friend, Brynn because they each had each other's backs. I also liked that Linly was not afraid to say what she thought and how she helped Kade realize some people in his life did not have his best interests at heart.

The ending of this book was the perfect icing on the cake. This was a great first book in the new series and I look forward to reading the other books in the series.! I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.

I wanted to like this book. I really did. Movie star with a bad boy persona who's trying to make a change? Small town girl with a heart of gold but you better not cross her.. A best friend most people would kill for. It had all the right ingredients to be a winner. The fact that it was fake dating made it even sweeter.

Unfortunately, I found the plot to be predictable. I kept reading merely to find out if I was right... and I was. The transitions were choppy. I had to go back on multiple occasions and re-read sections to figure out how we got to the new place. And the first intimacy screen was confusing.
Would I read it again? No.
Did I hate it? No.
Overall Sunrise was a sweet story, despite it's flaws. I was interested in reading Sunset but never received the ARC and I didn't like the characters enough to buy it. 3 stars.

I love how the author set up this duet, it gives us the full story of Kade and Lin but also sets up the second part of the duet with Brynn and Jasper. The author has a great mixture of sweet and fun, but also shows the strong connections between these two pairs. It was a little more slow burn than I usually like, but just added to the appeal of the book!

All in all if you are looking for an emotional but hot romance, this is definitely one for you to check out, I really enjoyed it and give it 4.5 outta 5 stars! I can't wait to read the 2nd part of the duet and see how everything plays out.

PS: Thank you to Kaci Rose and Give Me Books PR for allowing me an advanced copy of the book to read and review honestly!

Loved this book, really enjoyed reading it. Kaci Rose is new to me but her story is well written.
Lin and her best friend each own a hotel next to each other and are devoted to each other due to their history as a family and each losing their parents at the same time, in a tragic boating situation.
Enter Hollywood bad boy trying to avoid more sordid publicity and to lay low in Sunrise inn, which leads to an agreement between him and Lin.
The characters are all likeable, the situation simplistic and the relationship developed well, intimate or annoyance scenes are presented without being over the top.

Kaci Rose sets Sunrise on a beautiful island “Hummingbird Island”. She gives perfect descriptions of the landscape and surroundings. Linly and Brynn have lost their parents at an age defying time in their lives. They are best friends and run side by side Inns located in Seaview, North Carolina.
Kade Markson is a playboy movie star. He is trying to turn his life as well as his image around. After another unsavory scandal breaks, Kade wants to get out of L.A. and lay low. His manager rents the Sunrise Inn for Kade to disappear.
Kade and Linly enter into an agreement to help them both out. Will their agreement turn into something more?

This is Kade and Lin from the start, but it also brings out a good portion of her friends, neighbors and townsfolk. An agent reserved the whole Inn for Kade so he would not be hounded by the press. He enjoys the Inn, the beach, and most of all, the friendship that is growing with Lin. They discuss a fake romance so that they can go into town and be seen. The relationship between his parents and Kade was terrific, as was the friendship between Brynn and Lin, the sister and owner of the Inn next door. The options available to them at the end of the book are well thought out. Loved the ending and their future.
