Rachel Turner is a real estate agent in Manhattan. Her goal for the year? Be a better version of herself than the year before. What's standing in the way? Her boss, Maria, wanting her to lie, cheat, and steal money from hard-working clients in the name of making a sale. As Rachel closes another sale, she contemplates her New Year's Resolution and vows to be better and do better with the next client.
Chad O'Conner and his daughter, Mia, have recently relocated to Manhattan and need a place to live. While staying with a buddy, Chad enlists the help of the real estate agency where Rachel works. It's been three years since his wife's death, but he can't help but be intrigued by his agent as she shows him around to different homes.
Will Rachel use the same conniving tricks on Chad to make the sale or help him thwart the evil Maria?
This is the first short-story in the Calendar Romance series. It contains a HEA with no cliffhangers.
This is a great opening for a new series of romantic short stories. Rachel met Chad as a client for the real estate firm she works for. Unfortunately, she has a supervisor who has directed her to do underhanded and questionable things. This turns into dire consequences for the blossoming romance with Chad. Looking forward to more of these tales!
January Beginnings is Book 1 of the Calendar Romance series written by Eden Larsen. This first episode was a wonderful and clean short story about a real estate agent, Rachel, who felt guilty about being forced by her supervisor, Maria, into selling house hunters ridiculously high priced homes, just so Maria could get a higher commission. This is the story of what happens when you finally do the right thing, confess to the right person about what's been going on, and strive to make he future a more honest one. I loved Rachel and Chad and Mia, and Mr. Fischer, and I also liked Rachel's roommate, Nora. There was one thing I didn't really understand, and that was "the Chad" comment. I guess it must have been something like being "A Karen", a derogatory remarks, but I never heard of " a Chad." This particular comment should be removed from the book because if it is a derogatory remark, then it is not a Christian comment. However, I recommend this story to anyone who enjoys a nice clean read and who doesn't have time to read a long book. This book was less than 40 pages long. I gave this first episode 5 stars.
Rachel met Chad, a client, to find him and his daughter a home. When the perfect home was found, her manager, Maria, insisted Rachel lie and report there was structural damage to the home and steer him to a more expensive home. Against her better judgement, Rachel does as Maria had demanded. Chad had asked her out, but she said she couldn’t date a client, so he asked for another agent.
Their relationship was perfect...better than on the Sit-coms. That is, until Chad found out about the scams.
You’ll have to get the book to see what happens next. This is a fun read.
This short story had me turning the pages, but I think the length did the story a disservice in that I barely felt any connection to the characters in the limited time I had to get to know them.
I did relate to Rachel in one way though... she had an overwhelming urge to cry during confrontations, and I've dealt with that my whole life. I hope the author gives Rachel a full length novel some day.
First in a calendar series, this is set in January. Chad recently moved to the city with his daughter after his wife’s death. He was looking for a home but Rachel’s boss kept pushing her to up-sell all their clients. How can she have a relationship with this great guy if she’s not being honest with him? Quick one hour read.
A good story. Rachels' struggle to improve and to overcome her boss's attitude are very real. Her infatuation with Chad helps her move forward. The story ends with potential.
Quick read. Much too short of a story. I liked the basic premise and felt it could have been developed into a really good story. This had no details and was lacking. Does not make me want to read others in the series.
This is very definitely a short story with a lot of sugar in it. The main character Realizes her mistake and tries to make good. I didn't get the Chad thing in the book. may be it's an east coast thing.
A short and sweet charming tale to start out the new year. Rachel's struggles are ones that I think most can relate to at some point in their life - doing what will keep our job or doing what we know is right for us.
This was a sweet short story that made you feel good. I've worked with a boss like Rachel's and it's no fun. However, I liked how Larsen tied everything together at the end. I enjoy quick sweet romances and this was certainly one of them.
This was such a fun contemporary read. It was quick and easy and gave me a range of emotions in a matter of a few chapters that I was able to read in less than an hour.
