Sandra Markle is the author of more than two hundred children's books, which have won numerous awards, including Boston Globe-Horn Book Honor Book, IRA/CBC Children's Choice, NSTA/CBC Outstanding Trade Books for Children, NCTE Orbis Pictus Recommended, and ALA Notable Books for Children. She lives in Lakewood Ranch, Florida and frequently travels to schools sharing her program "Sandra Markle's Books Are REAL Adventures."

Middle grade readers will find this book both entertaining and informative. Photos include detailed captions that help the reader understand unfamiliar concepts as do insets with additional information on topics pertaining to each of the rescue stories. The writing is accessible, well-researched and easy to understand. These compelling stories about animals rescuing people or other animals keep the reader engaged and eager to read more. The short, concise chapters are perfect to read for brief periods of time.

Animals to the Rescue! by Sandra Markle is a wonderful book for children. Both children and adults will be fascinated with the ways animals have helped in rescues around the world. My son was mesmerized with this book and it kept his attention until the very last page. This book is amazing and we recommend it highly. A fascinating, heartwarming book! This collection of stories makes an engaging read. Each chapter stands alone, but the book could also be read in one sitting. People of all ages will appreciate Markle’s deft use of suspense and her extensive research. A whale saves a snorkeler! HeroRats sniff out land mines! A house-cat defends a boy! Sidebars with extra facts about the animals add info and interest.

I am always looking for books to give to fans of Paw Patrol, and this book fits the bill. Includes features I love to see in nonfiction for young readers: index, source notes, glossary, and multiple "on-ramps" for different readers: boxed essays, photos with informative captions, etc.

Fascinating stories of hero animals – from dogs who can find survivors buried under rubble to a whale who saved a swimmer from a shark to penguin-guarding dogs to landmine-detecting rats there is a story here for everyone. Includes a list of books and websites for those who want to learn more.

Heartwarming stories about a variety of animals. Includes great photographs. My daughter enjoyed this book (the rats who sniff landmines was her favorite section). She needed help with some of the vocabulary used in the book, so this may be best read with an adult.

This was a really interesting book. I was amazed at how amazing animals can be.
The cover.. is a turn off... Sorry it just doesn't work. In fact I dreaded reading the book because the cover was so unattractive
