The Devilishly Reckless Rogue...

When Alexandra Gianni felt a man grab her shoulder and quickly threw Christian Atherton to the ground, the aristocratic charmer was intrigued and challenged! Women were supposed to fall at his feet, not the other way around. With his infamous grin and irreverent humor he pursued the lovely Wildcat with the haunted eyes, sensing the fire beneath her cool facade--and was determined to melt the ice around her secret heart. Alex wasn't looking for a fling with anyone, especially the impossibly handsome rake with the wicked reputation--but she didn't expect the golden boy of the horse-show world to kiss her with such tenderness... or to arouse such delicious, addictive hunger in her soul. Christian was enchanted by the spirited, stubborn woman who made him yearn to know everything about her--and longed to soothe the sorrow that lingered in her life. Could he persuade her she deserved to be cherished, that he'd risk everything he had to ensure her happiness?

"Tempestuous" is the story of Alexandra and Christian.

*MILD SPOILER FILLED REVIEW*

So.. the low rating on this one is not because it was necessarily bad, but because how disappointing it was.
I feel matters like rape and PTSD should be handled more sensitively, and I found it missing from this book.

Our h is a competitive horse ride, who meets the hero H he approaches her quietly from behind, and she throws him over the shoulder. He is taken by her, and immediately propositions her- which she refuses- having had a traumatic past and now trying to build up her life again as a single mother. The H does not give up, makes a bet about wooing her, and then relentlessly pursues her, gets injured, employs her by guilt, manages to seduce her and they fall in love. As the h confesses the truth about her past, the H feels protective and is very understanding. But soon his bet is exposed. And that's when I went..meh.

The story had potential to be this angsty, tearjerking read but it was honestly below average. Every man was looking to molest the heroine- and I am not a fan of reading rape attempts being described in detail. Also, it was obvious the h was suffering from PTSD- but it was not explored much. Lastly, she forgave him way too easily, and a little more grovel could have added much to the story.

Really disappointed.

Actual score 3 1/2 stars. The other two books in this series were much better. As #3 it reads well as a standalone. Each book focuses of a different couple with the supporting characters couples from the previous books. You get continuity without being hit over the head by a rehash of their stories. Love that. Love these Tami Hoag short romances too. As a book written in 1990 it stands up with modern romances and comes ahead for the most part. The angst level and the martyr factor play a big part in why the rating is low. It wasn't as good as her other romance genre books have been.

Alexandra Gianni has come to Virginia to start over with her 10 month daughter. She has started a horse training and boarding business and is also show jumping the horses she trains. She is running herself ragged and the local bachelors are all taking their shots at her and taking bets on if and who she will hook up with. A man is the last thing Alex needs or wants after her disaster of a life in California.

Christian Atherton is a rock star in the world of show jumping. At 35 he is a handsome, charming, rich bachelor with no plans to ever change that status. Until Alex. Christian finds himself caring deeply for her and dumbstruck by love. But Alex has a tragic past and it is hard for her to accept that Christian could love her.

A few pages in and I thought "I'm not gonna like this". It was completely mindless, utterly corny and predictable, yet I strangely enjoyed it! The story reminded me of books I used to read at about age 14 and it's actually made me feel quite rested. A nice break from the intense thrillers I read.

A murit unchiul Richard.

Not the usual Tami Hoag book. Didn't care for this genre.

A perfectly cheesy eighties style romance. The story and romance weren't too bad, but I was sidetracked by the cliche and annoying Britishisms of the main character, Christian - "I say!" "I dare not!" These are really out of place in modern day novels. I expected our Hero to whip out his quizzing glass at any given moment. And his cockney assistant was a bit much too.

I also couldn't quite decide if the author meant to make a commentary on how men objectify women or not, but that's what was done. The heroine in this book has been controlled and played with by men far too much and the attitude of many of the men in this book is revolting. They (including the hero for a time) treat the heroine as if she's there for their amusement, giving little thought to whether or not she wants their attention. It even irritates me for a time that the hero won't take no for an answer (kissing her without her permission - he deserved a lot more than the smack she gave him) and pushing her for a date all because she's attracted to him.

2.5* Okay for a quick, mindless read. I read it because it was combined in the same volume as Restless. I wanted to read Restless because it was about Remy Doucet, Lucky Doucet's brother (Lucky's Lady).

My second favorite in the series. Likeable characters but the ending fell short. I expected more.
