Rebel Force #5

Draekon Guardian

Rate this book
The big, bad, alien hero rescued me from the evil Zorahn.

He sees to my every need.
He sends me thoughtful presents.
If someone threatens me, Yafet destroys them. He’s ruthless in his desire to keep me safe.

And despite all of that, I can’t get him to take the next step.
Kisses? Yes.
Heavy petting? Again, yes.
Anything more? Nope. He won’t go further even though he obviously wants to.

I'm not the type to sneak into his quarters and drape myself over his bed like a picnic to be devoured… but maybe I should?

***

I had spent an eternity alone. I was a Draekon, a creature to be feared, but never to be loved. I was used to it.

Then I met Liz, and my world rearranged with her in the center.
The universe is a dark place, and Liz is my light. My anchor to hope. My one chance at happiness.

But my psychopath brother is trying to wipe out the Draekon race. He has a master plan...and it involves Liz. To stop him, I must stay away from her.

I’m the Draekon Guardian.
To protect the galaxy, I cannot claim my mate.

The last of First!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙
Romance: 💚🖤💙❤️
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📙📘📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌍
Character development: 🥲😳😋😙😘

The heroine: Liz - she was a Michelin starred chef who had her own YouTube channel. She agreed to go into space, thinking she was on her way to a grand adventure. Though Liz was lied to by the Zorahn, and went into space thinking it was safe, but was then sold at auction, bought by the scientists for the purpose of experimentation and torture and then finally put back into stasis.

The Hero: Yafet (a.k.a. Sixth) - he is the last member of the Crimson Force and is over 1000 years old. His ability is as a scientist/healer. He works with the rebellion and was charged with finding and rescuing the last two human women. He found their stasis pods and rescued Liz.

The Story: Sixth’s brother, First, wants to kill what he thinks are non-pure Draekon. He found out that all Zorahn have the Draekon gene, he had his scientists create a virus to change their DNA and eradicate the Draekon genetics from their DNA, though the virus is killing most of the people that get it in a very painful way. Sixth is working to come up with a cure for the virus.

Liz has a huge crush on Yafet, though she believes he doesn’t know she exists. She sees he is hard at work in the lab trying to fix the virus. She spends time in the kitchen and creates a basket of food that she gives to Yafet. She is adorably nervous and awkward. Yafet does see Liz and she is his world, but he thinks that First will use Liz against him so he feels he must stay away from her.

I liked how Yafet is kind of a celebrity in the Rebel community where they are living. Since everyone is pinning their hopes on him for saving millions. Liz thinks she is off his radar completely so she feels unsure of herself and yet Yafet is feeling the same since he has the weight of the world on his shoulders. I liked where the story went but I have to admit that Liz’s insecurity got on my nerves a bit.

The book was told in dual points of view via dual narration. it was narrated by Natasha Lawless and Jasper Woodcock. Natasha has a very pleasing voice and is easy to listen to. Jasper has a deep, slightly raspy voice and speaks in a tempo which works well for alien romance.

A few reviews I read said the final showdown with First was anticlimactic, but I thought it was perfect karmic justice when his brother Sixth outsmarts him. I thought it was the perfect ending to the series.

I’m so disappointed I can’t even write a review. Everyone is talking about what a great ending to a series this was. No. Just, no.

1. It took almost 75% of the book for the Liz and Yafet to get together...kind of.
2. The way First is dealt with was so anticlimactic. The whole series was building up to this epic event. Only for it to NOT BE EPIC. It wasn’t even a little good. There was no real event. It was worse than a small fight. There was no fight. I can’t believe it.
3. There was so much foreshadowing with the undercover spy/bad guy.
4. The story dragged on forever.
5. Liz and Yafet made me so mad with their back and forth. It wasn’t angst it was stupidity and NO communication. I’m all for slow burns, I love them. This was not a slow burn this was frustrating and toxic.

Even though I disliked this book, the series is great and deserves to be read. This ending just didn’t do it for me. These guys are awesome and I can’t wait for any future take or even spin off. I know there has been talk about that. I guess I can look forward to that. But gahhhh! This was not what I expected and I’m so sad they did Yafet like this. He deserved a better story.

Draekon Guardian is the fifth and final book of the Rebel Force series. And I have to say this one could be my favorite.

Liz and Yafet are such wonderful characters and I just had to keep reading this book to see where their love story would take them. These two fall into love quickly but there is a lot of obstacles they will have to get through before they can fully live their new lives.

I recommend this series for anyone that loves a little alien love in their stories.

Couldn't get past 35%

Very, very slow moving and at 35%, when, even after being attacked, the h decides it's okay to go BY HERSELF to a NIGHT MARKET when even during the day it is so dangerous that it is required that 6 individuals go together, I decided the h was TSTL and DNF. Ugh. Hate stupid women.

What a treat this final book in the Rebel Force series is! I liked the way the protagonists, Liz and Yafet, were so protective of one another, looking out for the other’s welfare. While this sometimes led to situations that could have been resolved if these two would just discuss things instead of making assumptions, I appreciated that they shared this mutual character flaw.

This is a book best read as the final entry in a series rather than on its own. A lot of the action builds on what happened in earlier books in the Draekon Force series, and the impact is much greater if you have that perspective in the back of your mind as you approach this book. The buildup to the showdown with the villain First ties into a plague running through the Draekon population. When danger confronts the human women who’ve mated with Draekons, Yatef decides he won’t bond with his fated mate Liz to spare her from becoming a target.

This decision leads to some inventive love scenes between Liz and Yatef, which really are a highlight in this book. I also loved their devotion to their careers and their care and concern for family and friends.

There are some annoyances in Draekon Guardian. One bad guy is telegraphed so clearly and so early that I wondered why nobody noticed it. And while Liz and Yatef’s careers as chef and scientist respectively were well depicted, I would have appreciated seeing a few more interests on their parts, particularly Yatef, to round out their characters more.

But this was a strong conclusion to an excellent series, and a fitting end for the stories of the original Draekons!

As with the other books in the series I really enjoyed reading this one also.
But I don't know, there was something missing I guess. And Yafet's relationship with Liz could have been developed further. But you can't have much in 200 pages so I guess it was on par.
I expected more from the confrontation with First, I was prepared for something much more action packed. It was kid of like with Breaking Dawn from the Twilight Saga, much anticipation and it just fizzled out.
But it was a nice read all in all and the authors did tie all loose ends.

4.5

Well I’m sad to say goodbye to Draekon’s, but this tied up this series pretty well. The books didn’t have the same plot line or identical main characters, and the worst of the major issues were resolved. I liked Liz quite a bit because she was the thirstiest of the FMCs in this series but in the most innocent way. They were a cute couple, although Yafet had ALL the issues with a mating bond.

Spice: 4/5

Triggers: death, grief, pandemic, abduction, torture/medical experimentation (off page), genocide

Liz is rescued and has fallen for Yafet. He knows that Liz is his fated mate but he can’t be with her as his evil brother has a plan to use her if they are mates. Can he stop his brother and claim his mate? Fast-paced read with loads of drama, suspense and steam. Great world building and an action packed read. I really liked it.

Didn’t Like - Ok

I had thought that the first book in this series was my least favorite, but this one took that dubious prize. To be fair, some of my issues with this book are a matter of taste. This is one of those books where she likes him, but can’t tell him, and he likes her, but can’t tell her. Another problem for me was the very obvious bad guy. Not catching on to him made all the characters look stupid, and went against their actions in previous books. Then there were the character inconsistencies. At times the heroine is adventurous and optimistic, but at other times she barely gets out of bed. Which girl is she?

The story is of the fated mates meet and lust begins variety, but their hangups keep them apart until the final showdown with series villain and HEA.

*****Spoiler Alert*****
This Book Includes
Violence.
Characters threatened to be robbed at gunpoint, fight scene - no one dies, references to virus /biological warfare.
Sex. Male pierced nipples, anal play with finger & tongue, anal sex, some hand pinning, some orders in bed.

Critique /Things that bothered me
The obvious bad guy. My problem here is that the obvious nature of this guy makes everyone look stupid. The first incident - when they are in a section of the market they should not be in, why doesn’t security look into this incident? That incident might have some wiggle room, but why would they not scan for a tracker after their location was compromised? Planting & scanning for trackers happened all the time in the pirate book. Or at least why don’t they sit down & try to figure out who knew where they were before they were attacked? Also the bad guy being an asshole was a big give away. I thought good spies were the ones you don’t suspect.

Villains Alliance. For a minute First & the empire appear to be allied. This makes a bit of sense - they both want to get rid of the D gene in the population. Then they r suddenly enemies again. Why?

Human Abduction. In this book the idea seems to be that the scientists always intended to experiment on humans. That that experimentation was the reason they went to Earth in the 1st place. However, previous books in the series seemed to indicate the emperor, not the scientists, was behind initiating contact. Which was it?

First’s Death.
I could not buy into this whole scene. I didn’t think there was a point in dragging this out. Dying First was unbelievable compared to all previous actions.

Perfect end to the series

I loved Yafet and Liz’s story and the wrap up for the whole series. Liz is a chef who has a YouTube channel. She embarked on what she thought was a diplomatic mission into space but ended up being kidnapped and tortured briefly by alien scientists before being put in stasis. Yafet is a Draekon Warrior and a scientist. He was created in a laboratory and has been in stasis for a thousand years along with the five other Draekon Warriors. He is woken from stasis by the Rebellion to find the kidnapped human women, including Liz. Now there is a deadly virus that has been unleashed by First and Yafet is desperately trying to find a vaccine and a cure. Meanwhile, Liz is trying to find her place in the alien society using the skills she already has including trying to cook her way into Yafet’s heart. Yafet and Liz are portrayed as real, relatable beings who have flaws, but are really trying to just do their best. From their first meeting, there is a connection between Yafet and Liz but there are many things that stand in the way of them being mated especially assumptions and fear. They’ll have to find their way to accepting being fated mates and deal with their own insecurities while also trying to find a cure for the virus, discover the identity of the spy, and defeat First. This book includes witty dialogue, characters with depth, and an engaging storyline. This story has a little bit of everything you’d expect - sweet moments, fan your face steam, dangerous action, strong bonds, evil masterminds, henchmen, uber protective men, plot twists, tragic back stories, political machinations, and even a few chuckles. There is an overarching plot line that runs through this series so in order to get the best experience, the series should be enjoyed in order. I am sad that the series has come to a conclusion. I’ll miss these characters.

A Fitting End of a Great Series.....Almost

Sure, this is the last official book of the series, but a highly anticipated extended epilogue is coming! Yeah!
As with the previous four books in the series, this can be read as a standalone story. However, the book does refer to previous events and features characters from those stories. Your reading experience will be much more enjoyable if you have read the previous books in the series.

I have to say that I think Yafet is my favorite Draekon of the five that are featured in the Rebel Force series. His willingness to sacrifice his life, happiness and future for everyone is so amazing - although sometimes unnecessary. Liz is a character that I think most people will be able to relate to in one way or another. She is a strong woman who has to find her purpose in life again after a terrible ordeal. As she rediscovered her love for cooking, she was able to heal and open herself up to a fulfilling future. I found this aspect of the story to be inspirational. Who knew you could get that from a simple erotic adventure romance???

This book has everything you want in a good erotic adventure romance. The roller coaster ride of emotions takes you from laughing out loud to tears of sadness, pain and frustration. Drama, adventure, detailed world building, romance and very sexy scenes are the perfect ingredients to make one tasty story. You just can’t go wrong with a book by either Lili Zander or Lee Savino, but together they are a dynamic duo.

I received this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

such a great ending to the series! as much as i know the guys didn’t want to end First, he *needed* to go & *maybe* he was going crazy because the rathr’s pain since when he was pain free he was pretty chill (though maybe because he was already on his way out he was resigned … who knows 🤷‍♀️) either way he needed to *go* so the ending was good

i wish we got an insight into what was going on with Raiht’vi, Tarish & Dariux since they were under “it’s complicated status” 🤔 maybe one day

what knocked off a star off the rating was definitely Liz … they had to emergency evacuate for safety reasons (right after being saved from being taken again) & all homegirl is thinking about is her kitchen, her inability to go to markets, not being able to cook & not learning about new fruits & veggies if she’s “imprisoned” in a ship ( mind you … this is for EVERYONE’S safety 😒) her run in with the scientists who kidnapped her was too nice of she thinks being evacuated to a ship to be SAFE is being “imprisoned” … then she complains, whines & BLAMES Yafet like it’s his fault (granted … she apologizes later but still she was being ridiculous & stupid) & then Yafet thinks of Liz as she can do no wrong (obvs being his mate he would think that) because after her rants he thinks of her as she has a “readiness to deal with whatever life throws at her” like … Yafet … you good? because *where*??? she cried & whined! that’s definitely not a “ready to deal with whatever life throws life throws at her” type of attitude

regardless … the book is good & the series is great 👏

Yafet is a scientist at heart. It's his job to find a vaccine and the longer it takes him the more people are dieing. So he doesn't have time for a mate.
Liz can't stop thinking about Yafet, what would his arms feel like wrapped around her.
It's sad when a series comes to an end especially when it's a good series like this was. It seams like I say this in all the series I read...this book was a great ending to this Draekon Guardian: Rebel Force Book 5

Liz is a cook, she's bubbly and interesting and Yafet is the serious scientist, but they are drawn together by a power beyond their control. I loved when Liz got to shop at the night market and her meals that resulted from her purchases. Yafet knew that Liz was his fated mate, her scent was in his senses since forever, he also knew that if he claimed his mate, she would be targeted by #1, his evil brother. So this couple can fool around but never complete a penetrative mating Oh fun!!! But one meal made with a mysterious meat attempts to change what Yafet has been trying to avoid. Who ever heard of Sex Meat? After the aphrodisiac stew, things get hot and heavy but Yafet is ever aware of the danger, should he complete the claiming of his mate. Life just isn't fair! The scientist in Yafet is working hard to find the cure to the virus that could eliminate the Draekons and end his brother #1 so everyone can safely live their lives with their mates. I loved Liz and Yafet, together they seemed to complement each other. I thought the ending was fitting, it completed the story and we got a HEA that all the Draekons and their mates worked so hard to achieve.
Thank you Lili Zander and Lee Savino.

Five stars🌟to the perfect ending to a terrific series!

This is our resident Dragon scientist story. Yafet,, feels responsible for every person who does from First's virus. He is hard on himself , and does not feel like he deserves love, happiness or a family. He works day and night to stop First from destroying all he loves. Until he meets the human woman Liz. When Liz wakes up and finds the sexiest male she's ever seen rescuing her she's just happy to be alive. As she heals and gets to know Yafet, the more she crushes on him to the point where he's the only one that makes her feel safe and loved. Yafet knows Liz is his mate but he doesn't feel like he deserves her. He's terrified that if he finds with her First will do something to ruin or hurt Liz so he tried to stay away or keep her at arms length. But the pull of a true mate is impossible to resist. He loves her and when a situation puts them in close quarters he knows he will do anything to keep her safe when will love her for all his days. This is a terrific adventure, filled with danger, angst and love. It also does a great job of wrapping up the series and bringing all the brothers full circle. Highly recommend I'll miss these alpha Dragon warriors!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖

disappointing final book

The first couple books in this series were great! Unfortunately the farther into the series I got, the less I enjoyed them and I’m sad to say this final book continued the trend as the worst in the series.

The emotion between the characters is missing for me, there is very little detail in plot or thoughts, and on top of that the action was practically non existent. This is the series finale book with indestructible bioengineered dragon shifter warriors with special abilities who live in space and are part of a rebellion … and it was a downright boring book!!

SPOILERS: Much of the plot is the two characters passing time on a small ship basically doing nothing. Which you might think in a romance would make for an okay read however there is also this weird abstinence theme (no P in V) and instead a lot of butt stuff. It just felt so odd and disingenuous. Plus when an author passes huge checks of time with a simple “three weeks later” I just feel so duped. This happens at least 3 times in this final book, including going from the main character dying on one page and just perfectly fine the next page. Just so very disappointed in what started out as a great series 😔

Yafet aka Sixth saved Liz and her friend Maia a while back. They have made their life with the rebellion but everyone is pairing up. Liz thinks Yafet and hot but he never seems to give her the time of day. Yafet knows Liz is his mate but he has to focus on finding a cure for a deadly virus. Not to mention First is out there and he must be stopped. It is too dangerous for Liz. When the rebellion finds out that First has taken Brunox and plans to use him to help create a virus to kill off all the Draekonians, they need to act. Now no one is safe.

Why is Yafet making things so difficult? You just want to tie him down and ravage him. He knows Liz is his mate. They are attracted to each other. So of course, fight the urge. Foolish. Plus he is giving Liz mixed signals. These two are so hot for each other but it takes a crisis to get them together. Liz cracks me up though. She is funny with her thoughts. This book will make you laugh and weep. First is still the main problem. Always a way to a male’s heart and in his pants is through food. LOL I hate to see the series end but I’m sure we will see them again.

The story of Yafet and Liz was so much fun I didn't want it to end! Yafet (Sixth) is a serious scientist tasked with finding a cure to help the dying draekons and defeat his out-of-control brother first. Liz is a merry go lucky former chef from earth that was rescued by Yafet. After Liz gets rescued she struggles to get out of a depressive funk and through her misadventures, she falls in love with Yafet but neither one is aware of the others' genuine feelings which makes fun some fun and angst filled moments. I love how this story ties together all the lives of the characters from the series; you get more insight into Raiht'vi and her love triangle, the new lives and families the brothers have formed, and how they all come together to battle their enemies. I took my time with this book because I didn't want to say goodbye yet. This story is full of sweet romance, nail biting action, suspense, steamy hot lovin', and yummy alien foods LOL! If you want to laugh, cry, and feel good, this book will deliver!

What a wonderful ending to a really great series. Yafet is the perfect hero. And Liz is his perfect mate. Liz thought she was going to experience outer space for six months before going home, little did she know she was going to be thrown in the middle of a battle for survival. After being rescued she needed to find her place in this new universe, and she found it with cooking. Pretty amazing when you can impress the aliens. Yafet otherwise known as fifth, one of the first Draekons, is the perfect hero. Self-sacrificing, and putting the well-being of his brothers and everyone else ahead of his own. Not easy to do when the woman you rescued is your mate and you will do anything to keep her alive. Now Yafet has a plan to go after the main problem, The First. Once one of his brothers and now enemy number one. For the first time he wishes it could be different but he will do anything to save his mate and the others. It was perfect justice for “The First”. Now Liz had to find a way to save her love. The perfect solution to get rid of the first, is now killing Yafet, and to have her happily ever after Liz must save him.

This is Sixth's story and the end of the Rebel Force series. Sixth (the scientist) finally picks his name - Yafet - and the first person he tells is Liz (the chef) when he rescues her and Maia from the stasis pods in which the Zorahn scientists had stored them. As soon as Yafet touches Liz he knows she is his mate, but in order to protect her from First (the sociopath Draekon) he can't mate with her. It frustrates Liz that he won't respond to her sexual overtures; she fails to realize the significance of all Yafet's non-verbal cues. Even though Liz doesn't "get it", others do, and Yafet's attempt to protect her backfires. Hotness, HEA and enough Draekon prowess in the bedroom to keep you happy. It could have been terror filled story, considering that First was still out to rule the Zorahn empire and didn't care who he killed to do it. But although it had its moments, this was a rather sweet, evil vanquished, justice done ending to the series (thank you Lili and Lee). I just wish it was longer, because I hate to see the end of this saga!

Fabulous to the end

Draekon Guardian is the last book in the Rebel Force series, and the story that pits Sixth, last of the original Draekons, against First, the original Draekon gone rogue. First is a fiendishly clever and relentless psychopath, a mass murderer of Draekon, Zorahn, human, and other alien species. Sixth is by inclination a scientist, and when First unleashes a lethal plague it is his mission to stop the illness, and then kill First. It gets personal when First's evil eye turns to the human women who have mated Draekons, and specifically to Liz - Sixth's mate. Hot and heavy sexy times bedeviled by a strange reluctance on Sixth's part to consummate their bond keeps romantic tension ratcheted up to 10, while the constant threat of doom from both the Zorahn Empire and First's Blood Heart mercenaries pushes the book, and the series, to its climactic conclusion. I'll miss the Draekons of the Prison Planet and the Rebel Force. Thank heavens for box sets, so they can remain on my re-read shelves forever.

I absolutely loved both of the Draekon series (Exiled to the Prison Planet and Rebel Force), and am very sad to see it come to an end. First, the evil draekon who has been menacing the galaxy for the previous 4 books is finally dealt with permanently. I am a bit conflicted about his ending.

I did love Yafet and Liz together, even if I did get a bit frustrated with their lack of basic communication. I still thought their interactions were sweet, especially the first time she cooks for him.

I highly recommend the series to anyone that enjoys sci-fi romance books. These are particularly well done.

Good

The Draekon Rebel Force series comes to an end with Sixth’s book.
Having taken the name Yafet, Sixth finds himself drawn to one of the human women he rescued, Liz.
The problem is, First is still out there, still hunting for a way to end the Draekon gene, and he wants Yafet to help him.
The only thing Yafet can do to keep Liz safe, is NOT mate her…

Finally we see the conclusion to First’s reign of terror, and Yafet in action as the scientist he was trained to be.
Paired with Liz, who is a chef, the two of them find themselves dealing with spies, a deadly virus, and a psychopathic dragon shifter- at least they get to eat well!

An enjoyable trip back into the Draekon world, with a few cameos from previous book’s main characters, and a neatly packaged ending.
Recommended for those who love sci-fi romance, but make sure you’ve read the other books in the series first… and maybe the other Draekon books too!

the way to the heart…..

Draekon Guardian is book five in the series Rebel Force by authors Lee Savino & Lili Zander. Ok so this was absolutely my favorite book in this series. There’s so much emotion- heck in every book there’s emotion. Yet in this one it seems more significant, more intense. So yes you have the all the characters dramatics - Sixth’s is good at compartmentalization but not for long. Liz has a way of breaking down those barriers. She has this kind spirit that tends to make others comfortable.
Another reason this is my favorite book is First- his part in this story has my emotions conflicted- ok yes he’s the bad guy and he’s evil. But shouldn’t there be redemption?? Maybe I’m wrong, however even monsters usually get second chances. It would have made for an interesting story. I do understand the ending it just hit a little different. In the world of all this things possible- maybe he could have been saved. Oh well - c’est la vie.
Enjoy!!

Wow! Liz and Yafet really delivered a one two punch right to my heart. I've enjoyed this whole series but I have to say that I thought that there was just something a little special about these two. I fell super hard for these two not only as a couple but as individuals. Liz had an inner core of strength that I really admired and her love for cooking is something that I myself have. Yafet was the perfect combo of alpha, sweetness and tortured that he rang the bell of my hot book boyfriend meter with nary a struggle at all. The book delivers a slow burning, angsty romance with lots of feels, simmering heat, drama, emotion, tension, adventure and humor. This book brings this series to a close but I seriously hope that somewhere down the road there will be more Draekons in our reading future. I am electing to post a candid review.

Oh Lil/Lee, you really did save the best for last!! Sixth/Yafet and Liz's story was absolutely my favorite. The moment Yafet meets Liz as she's coming out of statis after being kidnaped and experimented on, he knows she is his fated mate. But with the threat of One over all the Rebel Force Draekons, he won't risk her life. Liz is a quirky, sassy chef who loves to experiment with different foods, spices, and is drawn to the hot, se*y, scientist Yafet. He fights the attraction, but gives in, regrets, pulls away, and just can't stay away. Liz is just as determined to make him hers. Well paced, great action, and a few surprises are in store. I teared up during the epilogue, it was a so, so well written. I would love one more book, please!!
I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Lee Savino and Lili Zander have saved the best for last!! Sixth, aka Yafet, knew Liz was his fated mate the moment she came out of stasis from being kidnapped and experimented on. The problem? One is still out there and will use Liz against him and the rest of the Rebel Forces. That's when Yafet decides he can never claim his mate in order to save the many. Noble indeed, but Liz has other ideas. She's a chef who loves to experiment with foods and spices, including Sex Meat. So many twists and turns, so much drama and angst. So much chemistry between this couple that just continues to build. Can the Draekonians be saved from the virus and this couple find their happily ever after? Have faith in Lee and Lili. Just enjoy the ride and see where it takes you. I promise you won't be disappointed

While this is the final book in the Rebel Force series, the fact that this was a spin-off of a series makes me wonder where if there will be more draekon books in the future. I liked this book and felt it was a good ending to the Rebel Force series. I would highly recommend being at least familiar with the draekon premise and wouldn't read this as a standalone, there is simply too much back story you need to be aware of. As for Yasef and Liz - I really liked them. Liz was just quirky enough to make the relationship interesting, although the hot/cold of Yasef did start to annoy. I was surprised at the conclusion of the storyline with First. While I liked it, after all of the build up of the 4 previous books, it felt like it wrapped up very easily and quickly.

The final mate and pair and showdown

Yarfet is the only unmated one among his Draekon brothers. Liz is his mate but he refuses to claim her while his psychopath brother is hunting the human Draekon mates. When things go sideways, the couple is stuck on a ship together. Just as dense as men on earth, he holds back from fully consumating their bond and doesn't tell her why. While unwilling to go all the way, he's very willing (and thorough) in giving her multiple orgasms from other acts as they await rescue.

This being the last book in the series also brings the final showdown with First. Yafet is willing to sacrifice himself to finally stop First. It will take all of the original Draekons to stop First and find a cure to the virus he unleashed.
