This adorably comforting introduction to school is perfect for the youngest readers transitioning to daycare or preschool.
"I want my mommy!" This little girl is nervous about her first day at nursery school. But after she gets involved with glue-y projects, sings, dances, paints, plays games, and meets new friends, she begins to change her mind.
And when Mommy comes to pick her up at the end of the day, the little girl happily says, "I want to stay at nursery school!"
With clever front and back jacket illustrations that hint at the happy ending and playful interior art, this picture book is sure to reassure kids and parents alike.
Really liked this one. It’s about the first day of school and at first the mom is dragging the kid to school but she doesn’t want to stay: “I want my mommy!” But then there’s things to do but she doesn’t want to do them and so it goes “I want my…” and she gets distracted by more things but she doesn’t want to do any of them “I want….” I love how the refrain gets shorter each time until she realizes she likes nursery school and on the back cover it shows the girl pulling her mom along to school. Great first day of school book with feelings of hesitation and the written form made me feel even more like it was like a kid, getting distracted and gradually becoming more comfortable.
Literally PERFECT for the child starting preschool. This author has a great understanding of the psychology of 2 and 3 year olds. She goes through the thoughts in a little girl's head, as she doesn't want to be at preschool because she wants her mommy, and then she starts having so much fun that she forgets, and then suddenly she doesn't want to go home. We read it so many times, per my daughter's request, that she would recite in the weeks before school started and once school started, she would laugh at the part where the girl wants her mommy. Charming and perfect if your kiddo is starting school.
An unnamed girl goes to nursery school for the first time. What starts off as a scary venture, soon turns into fun that she can't wait to get back to. Good story partnered with mediocre illustrations.
