Ranger Paraversum #2

Girls in Black

Rate this book
Building a city back up from the brink of ruin should be harder than facing your own past—right?

A few months after WWII was officially declared over, all’s easier because Karol’s here, in Lina’s world, working at her side. She might be staying for a few weeks, or a few months—it’s out of their hands, and Lina doesn’t even dare to hope. Her biggest problem is how to keep her growing affection for her parallel world doppelgänger a secret from her cabbage-stewing landlady, while simultaneously making sure her boss Anna doesn’t dislike Karol on sight.

She has a good thing going for her, finally… right until an old friend asks for help with the one thing Lina’s had more than enough of—a dead body. Soon, shit starts going sideways, proving that the challenge her former sisters at the convent are about to face might not be as benign in nature as she’d first thought—nor completely of this world.

Join Lina and Karol in a new, slightly darker historical fantasy adventure in Lina’s own backyard. Because, if there’s a single thing that’s certain in the whole damn paraversum, it’s that nothing hurts as much as going home.

A lesbian historical fantasy. Second installment of the Ranger Paraversum series.

I liked this book better than the first though I have to say that I missed Karol's world. But I think that the next one will take place there so I'm excited for that. Seeing Karol and Lina work together to solve another murder was great; they make a compelling team. More details about Lina's past were revealed, but they only made me more curious about Karol's past and her adoptive family. I can't wait to read the third book (when my TBR pile will allow it😂).

I loved Book 1 – and Book 2 is even better.
Another super puzzling mystery, this time set wholly in our Croatia of 1945. There are bodies, rather an awful lot of blood, a hint of witchcraft, angry nuns and a deeply sinister gateway between worlds.
Rijeka, the seaside town in Croatia where the story is set, is gorgeously drawn. It’s bruised from the war, its people still suspicious of anyone with ties to the Axis powers, the Partisans are elbowing their way into position. In the middle of all this, our two main characters are still having trouble keeping their hands off each other and the tension between the two of them is running higher than ever. A brewing side-story between Lina’s boss Anna and a female captain of the Partisan forces has me crossing my fingers – those two are just as hot.
A tonne of fun, with loads of luscious lesfic goodness. Just read it already!
