For as long as I can remember, I’ve been confined in a gilded cage. Beautiful, delicate, untouched. Meant to be seen and not heard. A perfect little prop for my father’s political career.
But that all changes when Viktor Komarov, the most powerful, notoriously dangerous criminal in Chicago, explodes into my world.
My father hired Victor to do a job: assassinate a political rival. But the brutal, ruthlessly cold Bratva kingpin doesn't work for free. And when my father can't pay him in time, Victor sets his eyes on another prize: me
Now I’m his. A captive in his lavish home. A distraction for his fierce gaze. A plaything for his every whim.
At first I hate him. But then something changes. I know it’s wrong. The captive isn’t supposed to want the captor. You’re not supposed to crave the man holding the keys to your imprisonment. You’re not supposed to ache with need when he rattles the cage.
Viktor’s the splash of red in my black and white life. And before long, the line between good and bad, love and lust, and captivity and freedom becomes irrevocably blurred. I've been caged again. So why do I feel liberated?
A debt is owed. And it will be paid. Again, and again, and again…
Hang on tight, because this Bratva captive romance is guaranteed to leave you breathless. Safe, absolutely no cheating, no cliffhanger, and a perfect happy ever after.
A reader first and foremost, Jagger Cole cut his romance writing teeth penning various fan-fiction stories years ago. After deciding to hang up his writing boots, Jagger worked in advertising pretending to be Don Draper. It worked enough to convince a woman way out of his league to marry him, though, which is a total win.
Now, Dad to two little princesses and King to a Queen, Jagger is thrilled to be back at the keyboard.
When not writing or reading romance books, he can be found woodworking, enjoying good whiskey, and grilling outside—rain or shine.
Never in my life have I heard so many people growl (and occasionally grunt). Every single thing anybody said was "he growled" or "she growled." I don't recall reading "he said" or "she said" at all. These people must walk around with sore throats ALL THE TIME. By the end of the book, it was so distracting that I couldn't get past it. I don't even remember much of the plot. It was entertaining, I guess. But for the love of god, get these people some throat lozenges.
Fiona is a shelter girl her father is a politician who is sleezy and does things that aren't good. And when I mean shelter girl was like rapunzel homeschooled and only one friend. Now enter Viktor a guy who Fiona father owes a debt. And when he sees her shes his and he takes her. I'm suprised Fiona didn't fight harder to escape from Viktor, she was a easy hostage lol. Helping him in deals for location and getting closer to him.
No ow/om drama, No cheating, slight secondary character, drama, virgin gal and no manwhore

Paying The Bratva's Debt was an ok read for me. While I didn't love it, I also didn't like it. It just seemed silly overall. Also, I have never read a book where the word "growl" is at the end of basically every sentence spoken by the H, sorry but it was ridiculous. Use it once in a while but all the time it loses the point and the reader starts to think the H is basically incapably of speaking. This was my first book by this author and probably my last.
This is like if you took a full length 400 page mafia romance and condensed it down to 200 pages of highlights. It was a fun read, but I missed a lot of the stuff that happens between the action. It made the relationships feel fake because they developed so quickly.
This is the first book I've read by this author and I enjoyed it. I will definitely read the next one in the series to find out what happens to all the characters...starting by the story of Lev and Zoey.
In this Russian mafia, enemies-to-lovers romance, we see our possessive, protective MMC fall hard for our smart, headstrong lawyer FMC - and the feelings are mutual. “Paying the Bratva’s Debt” sees Fiona kidnapped by Victor in her father’s elaborate plans to pay off his debts to the Bratva kingpin for Viktor’s aiding in Thomas’ shady political dealings. Falling short of the millions owed, once Viktor takes in a stunning Fiona, she is struck as the debt owed to the Russian. Fiona is a newly graduated law student whose been essentially imprisoned all her life since her mothers passing. Behinds her one true friend Zoey, Fiona has no social life, friends, boyfriends, etc. beyond what her father has allowed, which are only to suit his needs and political agenda. Against her better judgement, Fiona cannot help her strong response and feelings toward her formidable, beautiful Russian captor. Soon after her capture, Fiona and Viktor’s relationship sizzles into a steamy romance, and they later launch their own revenge plot against Thomas - especially after he arranges for Viktor to be arrested by framing him. Fiona and Zoey team up to finally get one over on Thomas, and to allow Fiona to finally do something for herself in her life. I really enjoyed this read, and i’m looking forward to the next one!
This is the first book in the Bratva's Claim series and features Fiona and Viktor. Fiona has been sheltered all her life and when her politician father gets entangled in a debt he can't pay back to a dangerous man, Fiona ends up being the payment. I mean...duh.
This was a pretty fast read with minor angst and a very predictable story line. I think I missed some uniqueness to this story and the heroine was just super blah. There wasn't anything special about her and her naivety was a little annoying. Viktor was fine but I wanted him to be more of a badass. Overall, it wasn't a bad read but I think for myself at least, it was mostly forgettable.
3.5 The book is well written and I enjoyed that the hero wasn't a manwhore. The storyline was however a bit thin and I didn't find the bratva elements convincing.
making my way through the JCU (jagger cole universe) from the beginning. this has lots of typos and the wrong name was written at times, can tell this is one of the first pieces of work but excited bc i know it only gets better from here!
This storyline seemed like it had potential, it's usually something I look forward to reading but this book wasn't it for me. It was too fast paced which stopped me reading altogether. Also, seems really unrealistic, no suspense or drama leading towards her capture... and afterwards was worse...
This author is new to me & honestly, I’m obsessed. I don’t know what it is about bratva leaders that just gets me, lol Viktor was perfect he was possessive with touch her & die vibes from one look this man was a goner. Fiona was extremely sheltered her whole life so when Viktor takes her as his captive she doesn’t know whether to slap him or jump his bones lol, she slowly gains her confidence to speak her own mind though. If you’re looking for a good short mafia read, this is for you. Onto the next book in the series.🤭
Few things in life I love more than finding a new author to binge and helllllllo Jagger Cole is bingeable af. And naturally, being the rule follower I am, I’m starting at the tippy top with his debut Bratva series. Viktor is collecting a debt from a corrupt politician and when he can’t pay up, he takes the next best thing : his daughter, Fiona. Read this in one sitting and immediately moved on to the next book. Mediocre mafia 🤝 me. A match made in heaven.
what you can expect : • mafia / bratva • kidnapping • he is alllll of her firsts • a man who only bows for one woman • corrupt politicians
not a fan of the writing and the excessive growling from the hero. we get it. also the randomness of the heroine's "best friend" and the dad (not in a good way) dilema and how the heroine handled it was just off.
Creo que la escritura de Jagger Cole comenzó a mejorar a partir de la serie Dark Hearts, antes de eso, realmente no vale la pena leer nada, hasta ahorita no he encontrado uno que si me guste.
This is easily one of my top favorites by Jagger! I am always partial to mafia but this story has the perfect amount of steam and plot line for a novella.
Viktor does one of my favorite things that an anti hero can do in a captive to lovers. Have a whole wardrobe ready, shoes and lingerie included, in the right size? Yes please.
Fiona is smart for her age, kept away from society but taught by some of the best tutors. Her street smarts are not the sharpest but she learns quick and uses her whit to her advantage.
I highly recommend Paying the Bratva’s Debt for a short and sexy, OTT read.
Does the hero even know how to talk properly , other than “GROWLING” EVERY FUCKING TIME. Jeez please, this was such a corny so called “dark romance” read. Like put together all the cringe over the top mafia brooding hero shit and there u have it. No uniqueness, nothing.
🧨Posibile spoilere! 😉
