It it is not the most detailed guide available (although it provides a great deal of information), but it does an excellent job of explaining much of the terminology and history related to the katana and other similar weapons. This was my brother's book and he collected with my father. i bought it for him as a gift. He said it was a very good basic guide, for he had others, some in Japanese about his sword collection. I read the book and amazed by all there was to the the samurai blade and the sword fittings. I was quite the learning experience for me, and allowed me to see into their world a little more.

Recommends it for: Collectors of Japanese swords
Shelves: military-affairs
Very technical and therefore difficult to read, but perhaps useful as a reference for collectors of Japanese swords. A few good color photos but hoped there would be more.
