Luke
Call me what you want to call me. Only one thing mattered and that's claiming the NFA heavyweight title once again. I don't trust people, which is why I have my crew, my manager, Lenny, and myself. That's all I need. At least that was until Syd walked into my gym.

Syd
I'm here to train Luke. He's defensive and rarely lets anyone into his inner circle, but there's something between us that's undeniable. It's a spark neither one of us saw coming. Once secrets are revealed we're left fighting for more than Luke's shot at the title.

The question remains, will the bond Luke and I have created be strong enough to carry us through to the other side?

I've liked some other books by this author and was excited about her participation in this multi-author series yet found the resultant book disappointing. Unfortunately, a romance can't work and a HEA absolutely can't be believed when the main characters have little chemistry and Luke and Syd's book suffered from that problem. As with most books and romance in particular, one needs to at least partially believe the scenarios and decisions of the story and believe that the characters involved would make and accept them or at least understand the whys of things. Didn't happen here at all sadly. How and why a successful but currently struggling fighter randomly chooses an untested and split focused person with little to no credentials as his new trainer is pretty ridiculous. Especially when the fighter is notoriously disagreeable with pretty much everyone. Luke is pretty grouchy and rude to everyone but not a lot was really explained about why and his random acceptance of Syd in his life was thin as was why he falls for her. He is struggling to make sense of a major loss in his life and I would have liked that explored properly but Banks's influence on Luke was just as thinly fleshed out as Luke and Syd as characters as well as a couple. Syd in contrast was incredibly pushy and rather annoying. She wedges her way into Luke's life and it was uncomfortable for me to read and connect to her and her motivations. She crossed many lines that one would think an a-hole like Luke wouldn't be cool with but alas, ridiculous and trope-y situations happen lol. I really thought her crashing his out of town visit with his family was awful and incredibly rude and disrespectful. She lacked so many boundaries it was horrible. The most frustrating and galling thing about how Luke and Syd just didn't work was that Syd was a massively self-centered liar yet behaved as if she wasn't. Searching Luke out and continuing to mislead and lie by omission to him was bad, but her behaviour when it's discovered was THE WORST! Betrayal like that deserves someone to do a good grovel or at the very least display contrition but not Syd! Ultimately it even seemed like Luke apologised to her! Definitely the last straw or hope of my belief in any HEA for this couple. I honestly wished that Skittles had cursed her out about her behaviour (but I did like that her friend kinda called her out AFTER repeatedly warning Syd how awful what she was keeping from Luke would be to HIM but Syd didn't care).

Lastly, as this is the second in the A-hole Club series and having finished the first book right before reading this one, I'm concerned about how the lack of connection between this supposed tight-knit group of friends of more than a decade. It's all very tenuous and the connections are again, paper thin. It was a disappointment with the first in the series and unfortunately continues here. I worry that there wasn't consensus about how these characters would feature organically and substantively in each book in the series. I'm planning to read the others in the series and I hope those incorporate more fleshed out connections and character beats for their books than were shown here. Disappointing overall.

Not My Favorite Trope but Won Me Over

Overall I enjoyed getting to know Luke and Syd. Being part of a series, I am glad I didn't NEED to read Pit super close to reading this book to enjoy the ride and special appearances.

I hate giving bad reviews but I really feel like I wasted my time reading this. Giving this a 2 is generous. There was zero chemistry between Luke and Syd. He just kept saying he got this feeling about her but it didn’t work for the reader. Nothing about Syd stood out and made me believe she was so special out of all the women he’s been with. Tje story was BORING! The secret was not that serious. I liked Skittles in the first book but her reaction in the end was not cool and should have been left out. What grown woman comes to another women’s place of business and acts that way? She can be an asshole but that to me was crossing a line of disrespect, especially for black people (if you know, you know).
The first book started out great but this book was a disappointment. I really hope the next book is better.

It’s a no for me ...

If you enjoy reading a ‘romance novel’ with 80% of back story info and history lessons on the topic of boxing styles then this is the book for you. We stopped at page 184.

So.So Good!

This was not only.A.complicated romance but this was complicated relationship. The writer gives is a story where the coup!e not only has to work at a budding relationship, but they have to work at showing mutual respect. This was not only fun but it was sexy as well. I would.have loved just a little more interaction with not only the crew but with She's family as well. Really looking forward to the next story in this series, please let it not take too long.

Good Read!

I enjoyed this storyline and the main two characters. I can't wait for the next two characters and to find out just what's going on.

Better than book 1

Ok this was better than book one but this wasn’t the normal Tiffany Patterson. The alpha male wasn’t that big of an alpha. Nothing like the usuals like Aaron Patience or any other fire Tiffany Patterson book. It was ok.

I’ve read every book by this author. I was looking forward to Luke’s book since we first met him in Jacob’s Song. This one wasn’t bad but it just didn’t stand up to other books by the author for me.

For me there was way too much long windedness about training & fighting — so much that I started skimming to get to the dialogue and romance.

The romance...there wasn’t a whole lot here, imo. First book by Ms. Patterson that I was actually bored reading the love scenes. I expected way more from an “Asshole for Lyfe.” But Luke and Syd were, dare I say it, kinda meh together.

I will read the others in the series. And I’m a forever fan of Ms. Patterson. This one just wasn’t my cup of tea.

ok it's now 6/10 and ... look when you only get 3 hours of sleep a day, 21 hour days are REALLY LONG and you're also sleep deprived and shit. So - >.> that is to say ... this book.

WELL.

I'm putting 2 stars initially because ... argh. I liked it, but it was more just ok than I liked it - probably one of my least liked TP books? It just felt ... it's hard to describe.

So Luke and Syd though. Luke stays and asshole through pretty much the whole thing. Which EYEROLL - LOOK I know it's called "the asshole club" but like come on. The other TP heroes are often assholes [HELLO AARON TOWNSEND - but with Patience - and his family - well he's not a teddybear (other than mostly with Patience) but ... <3]
So ... Syd's "secret" ... :|

I liked that Syd was badass herself. And that Luke is so smitten.
The whole ... his sex club stuff - and he's crude. I THINK the book starts out also with him having a one night stand with someone? [X: kinda running together these books...]

I WAS excited about this book though because I really liked Jacob and wanted to read about his brother ... I'm happy Luke and Jacob are slowly establishing a relationship, and really hope Syd and Grace help bring them together more <3

I DID like that Luke has his core friends that are ride or die, and that Syd has good friend(s) too. Felt like I was missing a lot with the "asshole club" stuff - the other guys but :X also ... >.> kinda have no interest in reading them. Low key maybe the Blue Saffire one but the premise ... *shakes head*

SO this book also kinda was going in ~too many directions.

I've also forgotten what the "big drama" was ... Syd's ex or something?

:X See?

This book just ... had parts memorable but not really. [This would probably be one of the last TP books I'd re-read/... dunno if I'd re-read it.]

D+

*I do feel I have to note there were writing/editing issues again/still. :| - like the other TP books

Love and Trust

This second book in the A**hole series introduces you to Luke. You are drawn to his loyalty to his crew, manager, friend and his determination to win the NFA title. His trust in people has been shattered because of his past. Luke has suffered a tragic loss that threatens to derail his chance of winning the NFA title. Luke has not put a plan in place to win the title after the tragedy. He is still trying to continue the same training and course of action that was implemented, when his life took the devastating turn. He loses two fights and knows he has to make a change to accomplish his goal, to win. Unbeknownst to him his life is about to forever change. Syd enters his domain like a whirlwind and turns his life upside down. There is an immediate attraction they both try to ignore. Luke issues a challenge to Syd that she wins and sets in motion their beginning. I like how both are portrayed. Luke is a strong, sexy alpha, with a little arrogance. Syd is self sufficient, successful, knows what she wants and skilled to handle herself in the ring. Syd is there to train Luke, but she also has a secret agenda. I like how the story builds the apprehension and how the struggle is written with Syd not sharing something in her past that connects her and Luke. How the book weaves the suspense into the flow of the plot is well written Once it is revealed, will the secret destroy the relationship that Luke and Syd has built or is their bond strong enough to weather the storm.... This book has steamy heat, two determined people, both damaged from past pain and have an intense intimate connection. Grab your copy, sit back and enjoy the continuing story in this series.

Yes! Luke and Syd is a book you will enjoy!

This is a MUST READ!

This series is starting off so good, for this to be the 2nd book. The first book killed it with gaining readers, and now the 2nd book is just keep up the excitement and great work!

If you haven't read the first book already, you should take a look, Blue Saffire killed it with Pit & Skittles. And Tiffany Patterson has killed it with Luke & Syd.

Reading this book has gave me lots of laughter, excitement, and i surpisingly found myself squeeling.

Tiffany Patterson does what she does best and added previous characters from her other series in this one. And I absolutely LOVE IT!! When I read about who was Luke older brother I squeel so loud, and was jumping in my seat. It was literally to the point where I plan on rereading that character book.

Luke back story really open my eyes to what else was going on with him. In the first book he was kind of the aggressive A-hole but quiet one. While Pit was that A-hole that was the boom in your face. Tak is the baby A-hole, Deacon was the A-hole that was the joker, but still needed to find out more about him. And Kelex is the A-hole is suspicous, and is doing something that STILL have me curious about it!

Now Syd also has her secrets as well and I actually feel so bad for both of them when it get reveal. Lucas is very much the hot head, but when he loves he loves hard.

This is really a book that you would love to read. As well as any other book from Tiffany Patterson.

Damn Good Read

Damn Good read! As usual Ms. P put her foot in it! Oooh... and I knew Jacob had a brother that was a fighter and man, I just love how the stories are interwoven and pieces to other stories make sense. Everybody was mad at Syd for not telling Luke the truth, but I’m thinking 🤔 WAS YALL READING THE SAME BOOK AS I WAS?! Luke was a Alpha/Asshole in the most truest sense. From his brooding, how he fucked, his fighting and how he dealt with his feelings. He didn’t make it easy for her to telling him. Plus she was his trainer and trying not to fuck his mind state up on TOP of having budding feelings for him as well. And less not forget why the whole reason we’re reading Luke in the first place( cuz he’s part of the Assh🥰le’s Club🤷🏾‍♀️) basically; he’s a asshole. And let’s not forget that she didn’t know how to tell something that was just as foreign and unrealistic at the time to say anything to him. He was in his head too much to take anything Syd said seriously or for face value. Not saying Syd was right, just saying...look at it from her side without judgment 😬🤷🏾‍♀️. Well done Ms. P🙏🏿🥰

Luke is the fighter of the a-hole squad. I barely remembered him from Pit’s story, even though I started this immediately after, but he grew on me! We meet Luke as a kinda-cocky, rude womanizer. His attitude is off putting and it’s almost glaringly obvious he wants to keep everyone at arm’s length. Red flags are popping up left and right, then we’re filled in on his history. After that, his destructive behaviors make much more sense. You end up with a soft spot for him, I did at least, even though some of his behaviors still grate on your nerves.

I ended up laughing at a lot… both Luke and Syd were funny but in very different ways. Syd is a “girly” badass, always in her 4” heels. She came in with her own plan and was persistent enough to break through his defenses. All he really needed was someone who wouldn’t quit on him!

There’s some grammar mistakes here and there, but not enough to ruin the reading experience.

Luke the loveable A**hole

We first met Luke in Jacob's Song, he was damaged, as was his brother Jacob, as a result of their mom's abuse and dad's indifference. Here he gets his HEA, in this second book in this series. Luke is a MMA type fighter and one day Syd shows up, bold as you please looking to be Luke's new trainer. Even though she doesn't have experience, she has a boatload of confidence and a good head on her shoulders. Luke gives her the job but can't help being drawn to her. This is a series that focuses on a group of A**hole friends and the ladies they fall for. Each of the author's are different and are generally favorite, one clicks for me. Luke and Syd did not disappoint and I am looking forward to getting to know the remaining A**holes, Deacon, Take, They and Kelex! If your on the fence about this series, got off now and start reading, STAT!

Luke Might be my favorite A**Hole (Spoilers)

I knew when I began reading Ms. Patterson's book, I would have to wait until my off day to read it because I would not want to put it down. And I did not. Luke is a fighter that owns a gym but has been without a trainer for almost two years. Syd comes along and basically invite herself as his trainer. These two chemistry is off the charts. Syd is strong and can handle any and everything Luke throws at her.
I will say I know Skittles is part of their crew, but she really annoys me. What grown woman comes to someone’s job and tries to fight them? Syd was more than willing to give her a go, but knew Luke's wellbeing was more important. I really dislike this Skittles character. Hopefully as the stories continue, she will grow on me. Overall, I would recommend this book. Amazing job!!

I like this club

Luke is hilarious & I love him. I liked syd at first. I like that she was about her business. My feelings changed when she followed him out of town & imposed on his family time. To believe a beautiful, ambitious & smart BLACK woman would chase a man who hadn't shown interest in her in a romantic sense was super cringe. I hate when these women aren't dating or have no suitors at all but suddenly a new man becomes their whole world. I know race isn't supposed to be a thing in these books but it's hard to believe a bw would act that desperate about a wm when she don't know if he even likes her like that. It was like she was pushing herself on him & with him being her client, made it even more weird that she didn't even consider her reputation. I thought they would fall for each other unexpectedly. By having her force it she seemed needy & silly.

Great

Wow, what a good read!!! Luke and Syd have one of the most unconventional love stories I’ve read! I love Syd a lot, I like her unconventional careers as a person who owned her own paramedic company and as a mixed martial arts trainer. It took a LOT longer for Luke to grow on me because he really was an A-hole. They had incredible sexual chemistry. I think I wish that the author had shared a little bit more of their backstory, particularly Luke’s so I would have understood him better. I also wish we would have seen a little bit more of the characters from Book 1 in this story. Can’t wait to read the next book

Fighting every step of the way

Luke had a rough time at life and because of it he kept everybody at arms length - friendships, family, relationships, professional relationships, encounters with fans.

Who could penetrate his armor around his heart?

In comes Syd, a spitfire with confidence, ambition, drive, and a secret that motivates her to pursue being Luke’s trainer. She didn’t take no for an answer and scoffed at his a**hole tendencies. She was determined.

He didn’t know what hit him. Unexplained emotions and occurrences happened that had him questioning, adjusting to, doing and accepting things he never did.

I really enjoyed this book. Tiffany killed it!

There’s something about this book, I can’t put my finger on it. I simply loved Luke and Syd. She reminded me of Coral from the Bennett series; as she is tough and didn’t take shit from Luke. All of her strength and confidence made her more attractive to him (I believe). Together they were HOT!! So much of Luke was similar to his brother Jacob. The brooding, trauma responses (distant, snarky comments). I loved how it ended. Now I need to read this series, because the other characters seem interesting. I just wish Tiffany was the author of the series- but either way I get to read someone else’s work.

Luke and Syd

If you think Pit is an azzhole, you gotta meet Luke. It took me a minute to realize he was Jacob's brother from Jacob's Song. I'm glad they are working on their bond. I knew Luke and Syd was gonna fall for each other and I loved every step of it. I hated when they were on the outs because it hurts them both to be apart. I know Syd omitted the truth a lil but Luke shuts down at any mention of his former trainer Banks. I'm glad she was there when he really needed her in his corner. Now I can't wait for Tak to find him a woman so he can stop acting like a spoiled brat.💌💌

yup, he’s an a*hole

(Book 1 of the a*hole series was written by Blue Saffire)
Luke is a member of the a*hole club. If Pit is King a*hole then Luke is the Prince.
Luke is a fighter who is struggling after the death of his trainer. Syd approaches Luke about being his trainer and is relentless about it, until he has no choice but to say yes.
What I enjoyed about this book is the push and pull between these two. They are feeling each other but don’t want to give in due to the nature of their work agreement. But man when they do give in 🔥🥵🌶️🎇🤯💥
Also appearances by members of the other club members and by Luke’s brother (who has his own stand alone book)

..just as I'm about to reach the exit, I hear someone say, "hey, where do you think you're going?"

I'd like to begin by saying I am in no way comparing these authors. But Tiffany Patterson, Blue Saffire, Xyla Turner, Xavier Neal...these ladies have a way of weaving a story together that brings the reader completely into the lives of the characters. You find yourself cheering them on, chanting "Scullcrusher!". " Scullcrusher! ". As if you're among the spectators of one the greatest love stories ever told.

A most read series.

I have read a lot of series, to me this is one of the best. I really like each person has a different technique everyone not in the same business. Luke had me holding my breath a time or two, Syd just made me feel good. She’s a boss and she owned it, I really like when she handed Greyson his a$$. If anything I wish I could have seen Syd in another fight with someone. There loved just flowed out of the story it was that awesome. I know I’m re-reading all of this series over and over.

Great read!

Yes!!! This series is amazing and it's only two books in! Syd is another strong woman who takes no mess from nobody, not even Luke who she is hoping to train. I love that Luke falling in love didn't all of a sudden make him a completely different person. I mean he's a part of this club for a reason. And there was the right amount of heat in this book. Now on to my least favorite part, waiting for the next book

Luke really is a A$$hole

Loved the story. Never would have thought Luke's background would be what it was. Wanted Syd to put Greyson on his butt in the parking lot. Was ready for Syd and Skittles to fight. Wanted to see who would win. Love the end of title fight scene. Was hoping that the epilogue would state if Syd became a trainer to other fighters and expanded her training business.

Smexy..... Steamy & Sexy

I love the originality of the female MMA trainer! You can tell the author did her research and like all the Tiffany Patterson books, the hero is a sexy alpha and the heroine is a badass too. The delicious slow burn with all the eye contact had me clutching my pearls; the witty banter had me laughing out loud and the scene at the cemetery had me tearing up too. I love a book that engages all my emotions and this book was spot on!

Definitely A Reformed A'Hole

Loved Luke. It's something about a pure Was home that finds the one true love. Like and Due were definitely right for each other. I loved this story and Pig's story because there was not a lot of stupid games written into the storyline.
Loved the way Luke decided to trust Std and how that grew in him other parts of his psyche.
Loved this story. So ready for the other A'hole's stories.

Just read a book for the first time in 3 months. It was ok. I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it either. Tiffany is one of my core 6-8 authors I enjoy. This particular book was just aight. Now my expectations could just be different bc I haven’t read in a while. I liked main female lead and thought the main male lead was a little doughy at first but he was supposed to be an asshole. He did grow on me some.

Ok...but where is 3rd installment

I usually like the her books. It was a good decent read but seemed to be kinda slow. It took me longer than usual to finish, got kinda bored and that not usually the case with her books. What's a bigger problem???? Her publishing company being late with the next installment!!!!! Its over a week late with no clue as to when its coming. Y put out a release date if that ain't happening? Very vanilla. It was fine, but lacked sexual tension and excitement overall. A scoop of tasty vanilla when compared to the first book in the series, Pit, that’s more like a wacky and delectable scoop of Ben and Jerry’s. It was a well-written book with minimal errors but just didn’t move me. The author put in the research necessary to make Syd being a trainer believable to me so much respect to that.
