“[A] breathtaking family treasure to page through, highly recommended.” — Midwest Book Review
An instant holiday classic. A happy little Christmas miracle.
Even after more than 20 years after his death, pop culture icon, painter, host, and teacher Bob Ross has never been more heralded than he is today. His memorable quotes, friendly face, and signature hairstyle grace merchandise and memes around the world. But what makes Bob as beloved as he is are ultimately his core values, and his peaceful, joyful demeanor that encouraged his students and viewers to not only appreciate their natural talents but to appreciate the natural world around them.
Bob was, in many respects, the embodiment of the classic holiday sprint which encourages peace on Earth and good will toward men. Now, for the first time, inspired by the classic Clement C. Moore’s story, this fully-authorized tale of a painter (and his little squirrel friend) on a cold winter night pairs Bob Ross's most beautiful wintertime landscapes with a meditation on embracing not only your inner creativity, but the beauty of nature, and the feelings of peace, friendship, and harmony that blankets the entire holiday season like a happy little snowfall.
Perfect for families, fans, and painters of all ages, Bob Ross’s Happy Little Night Before Christmas is the perfect addition to any holiday tradition.
I watched Bob Ross as a young girl. I couldn't wait for his show to come on TV. He was such a great artist and painted and explained each swipe of his brush as he created such beauty.
My daughter is in college now and is studying art. She loves Bob Ross even though she actually never watched Bob Ross on TV or knew much about him. Now that she is aware of Bob, she studies all of his paintings and reads anything she can find about him.
I gave her this book for her birthday, and she loves it. She also loves the Christmas story that is written by Robb Pearlman and the beautiful pictures of Bob Ross's paintings.
A great book for children and adults. I highly recommend.
I love this book! His paintings, which are in the book, are beautiful. The gift he gave the world of encouragement and kindness is still needed. I have read and re-read this several times.
We love Bob Ross at our house. My littlest especially and I found this book for an early Christmas gift. The rhyming sentiments are sweet and of course, each painting is amazing! 4.5 stars
This just makes me so dang happy! It's a twist on the classic tale, but with Bob and Peapod the squirrel staying up late to paint. The poem is set alongside Bob's beautiful winter paintings. It's delightful!
I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.
This sweet story and even sweeter message is perfect for fans of Bob Ross. His paintings illustrating the poem are beautiful, of course, and the book inspired me to try to paint again. I've read it several times!
You gotta love Bob Ross. Who doesn't?! This short book takes some of his snowy landscape paintings and couples them with a short bit of text to form a sweet little ode to Christmas as much as it is to Bob Ross. I wasn't much enthralled by the text (it at one point introduced a squirrel as the main subject but there were none in the painting that accompanied it), but most of the paintings chosen were very evocative and touching, mainly due to the breathtaking lighting that Ross is famous for being able to capture. A few of the paintings were a miss for me - either not Ross' usual style, or else a bit artificial-looking or stiff, or with lighting that wasn't great. But on the whole the book managed to achieve what it probably set out to do: make us remember a talented artist who made anyone feel like they could do art.
What a happy little book. Robb Pearlman takes the poem "The Night before Christmas" and really does something amazing. He takes all the wisdom of the painter Bob Ross and turns it into a meditation on living well, art and Christmas. If you have Christmas fatigue, this is the book to try. The artwork is all paintings Bob Ross did on his show of snowy landscapes.
The poem is not the best adaptation as sometimes, he loses the beat. Still, it's such a quiet lovely book.
Thank you PBS for putting Bob Ross on TV daily. What a gift to us all.
Bob's paintings are lovely. I love when he lists colors Bob is using. That was fun.
Not for beginners. Budding artist might really like this. Adults who grew up with Bob Ross should love this.
The art in the book is lovely, lots of wintry scenes by Ross. The text isn't particularly Christmas-y; it's mainly about Bob hanging out with his squirrel Peapod and trying to decide what colors to use in his painting, and then painting it. The story does have him thinking about Santa, reindeer, and elves in one sentence, but mostly he's thinking about family, friends, world peace, groovy stuff like that. Not bad, but felt like more of a New Year's Day story to me. At any rate, it's sweet, and will appeal to Bob Ross fans, and it sneakily plugs the Bob Ross brand oil paints in the thirteen colors that he was famous for.
I love all things Bob Ross. I am an art teacher and I often play a Bob Ross bingo game with my students near the winter break, so this will be fun to read out loud in class before we watch an episode and play. It will also be fun to read over the holidays with my creative family. It will be nice to add a new twist to old traditions. I enjoyed examining the finished wintery landscape paintings and the poetic message captures Ross’s unique character, interests, and ultimate intentions perfectly! Happy Reading!
This is a sweet and short book using the Night Before Christmas poem. The winter art of trees, mountains, and buildings remind one of Bob Ross and his wonderful paintings. Poem is by Robb Pearlman and the paintings by Bob Ross. Cover design is by Brigid Pearson. SmartPopBooks.com I won this in a giveaway from Goodreads. I plan to purchase some for next year Christmas gifts for some of my family.
A fitting Bob Ross-esque version of Twas the Night Before Christmas. Unfortunately, some of the rhymes felt forced. This book will probably only be appreciated by fans of Bob Ross, his paintings, and his calm demeanor. The words do sound like him and carry a hopeful, peaceful message for the holiday while also including the paint colors he used. Would be a good read aloud before a Bob Ross paint-along at a library.
I love Bob Ross' paintings and his personality. This book has both. Bob and Peapod the Squirrel at Christmas time. This is a perfect Christmas Eve bedtime story. It's also the perfect gift for Christmas or just because the gift reciever loves Bob Ross and Christmas.
I won this from a Goodreads giveaway. I love it! It's a delightful book with flawless poetry and gorgeous artwork. It's going to be a Christmas staple in my household. My younger children really enjoy reading it, looking at the pictures, and having it read to them. It's a wonderful book for all ages and fans of Bob Ross!
This is just a sweet and happy little book. I often wonder how Bob Ross would react to his becoming such a pop icon. At least this book, filled with his paintings, tends to embody his personality and desire to spread happiness and peace in the world.
I received this book in a Goodreads giveaway, and I’m so glad I did. The story is cute. However, the best part of this is all of the Bob Ross paintings. Just stunning. I wish I had tried painting instead of just watching him.
I won this book in a contest. It's pretty cute to read and Ross' paintings are obviously amazing. If I had shelf space there, I would probably put this book in my bathroom to read during the holidays while on the toilet.
Great book for painters and artists of all kinds. My 8 year old is getting into Bob Ross and loves being artistic. This is a perfect story with beautiful painting photos
this literally made me so happy. I was smiling the whole time I was reading it! Bob's paintings are obviously gorgeous, and Robb Pearlman did a great job with the poem. Such a dang good little book
An adorable book, brought back happy memories of happy trees. I am going to pass it to a friend as a Christmas gift next year and I know he will love it as well.
