A hot, nerdy dragon content to be alone

Dragon shifter Gideon wasn’t looking for love. He preferred silence, solitude, and the company of his books. So, when he runs into his mate, his first instinct is to keep her at arm’s length. However, he is constantly drawn to the feisty lioness shifter, and despite his own reservations, decides that he can’t ignore his instinct and his dragon’s determination to make her theirs.

A lioness shifter running from a painful trauma

Ginny Russel prided herself on being one of the best agents for the Shifter Protection Agency. No one knows she’s keeping a secret — that her job was the only thing keeping her from spiraling downward. She takes on mission after mission to forget a horrific event from her past and the assignment to find the traitor threatening the lives of the royal family of the Northern Isles is no different — except that she unexpectedly runs into her fated mate. While her lioness may be keen on claiming the hot, nerdy dragon guard, she is not. Bonding meant staying, and that was the one thing she couldn’t do, not when constantly moving from place to place was the only thing keeping her sane. She finds she can’t keep away from him, but tells herself that it’s only because he’s the key to helping her complete her mission — and leave as soon as possible.

Finding the mole who betrayed the king becomes their common ground and the passion and chemistry between them explode. But while Gideon is determined to claim his mate at all costs, Ginny’s building more walls to keep him away.

Will Gideon be able to win his mate’s heart AND trust, or is Ginny just too broken to complete the mating bond?

Dragon Guard Scholar is a full-length steamy standalone fantasy paranormal romance featuring a sexy alpha male dragon shifter, the woman of his dreams, a cute cheetah cub, plus action, passion, and a HEA guaranteed to satisfy you!

💋💋

Great new book with the Dragon Guard, King Aleksei and Queen Sybil.

Gideon and Niklas, are twins and inseparable, will a lady finally come between them, Of course not.
Ginny has been sent by the shifter Agency to uncover the Mole who is after the King.
Can she control her Lion long enough to fulfil her quest or will her mating call be more than she can handle.

The twins and Stein work together to help her with her inquiries, but that only works if they can keep their cool and their minds on the job in hand.

Very enjoyable adventure and an thoroughly addictive series.
Alicia writes some excellent books.
Highly recommend series!

This one keeps you guessing right up until the end!!!
Who would have ever thought the nerdy twin would have been soooo dominant!!!! I was not disappointed with Gideon and Ginny.
Not sure whose book is next but Alicia has left a few clues at the end of Dragon Guard Scholar.

Another great read by Alicia Montgomery. We met Gideon in the last book. He’s a quiet, thoughtful “scholarly” individual. As soon as he meets Ginny, he recognizes her as his mate. He’s not sure he even wants a mate. Watching the deterioration of his parents marriage, and his mother’s abandonment left some pretty big scars. For her part, Ginny is also sure that she doesn’t want a mate. She rather likes her life as it is. She works for an organization that protects shifters around the world. She likes her nomad lifestyle, in fact, that’s what brings her to the Northern Isles. She has been hired to help them find the mole in the palace that helped engineer the attack on the king.

I loved this book! Gabriel is so sweet. Watching the relationship unfold between him and Ginny was very satisfying. There was only 1 time That she got on my nerves. I love a strong female character who isn’t a raging bitch. Comedic relief was provided by Gideon’s twin brother, Niklas. Oh my, I love Niklas and can’t wait to read his story.

I heartily recommend this book. Miss Alicia never disappoints.

My take on this entire series is "not really bad but not good either." Unfortunately, the majority of the books is just vague melodramatic fluffle surrounding little bits of love story; a lot of running around and hints of action without much action on page.
This book hammered in fast that what I thought was a fresh series is actually a spinoff of the author's prior work. Technically it can be rad on its own but you will be getting a lot of spoilers and hints from the Blackstone series. I feel like the later books in this series (I read all dragon guard books before writing any reviews) seem to give more spoilers as we go on. I definitely would have started with the original series had I realized they were connected sooner.
Ginny is the first time I get frustrated with the vaguely melodramatic hints of doom in this series. She's been traveling alone for years but somehow still fears her sister forcing her into a mating? The same family who has no idea where she is or what her job is. And we have no idea why she actually left home in the first place to know if her concerns are at all founded. It's just a useless plot thread and hole all in one. Her character also made multiple silly decisions and was given way more credibility than she has reasonably earned. They keep saying she has been on the job for so long when in reality it is about 1 year experience after 1 year training, and one of her early missions failed in the worst way. The character just doesn't make sense.
I love LOVE Ginny's realization of Gideon and Niklas being twins. That is probably the best humor in the entire series. Niklas has some good lines in his book but this one scene steals the points.
Gideon and Niklas are an odd backstory swirl. I understand what the author tried to give them but it was just an obnoxious storyline and made this book contentious in the wrong ways. Where we should have been focusing on the antagonists, we were constantly dragged into this pissing match between childhood memories and present day reality. This book was a lot of silly fighting, miscommunication and drama, while they kept forgetting to do the work to resolve the antagonist. And then the antagonist resolution was hyper simplic. It just didn't work for me.
If you're jumping in for mindless low thought entertainment, ehh you might be ok. Overall the series failed to capture my attention most of the time and did not give me true reading satisfaction. I don't hate it but would have stopped probably after book 2 if I had anything better on my tbr.

We're in the mates zone now!

We met Ginny right at the end of the first book in this series, and this book opens by recounting that meeting from her point of view. She's been assigned to act as an undercover agent to figure out who tried to assassinate the king.

Gideon is the academician in the Dragon Guard ranks, and he's been sifting through all the intel and historical records to find the source of the threat against the kingdom. His flirty twin brother, Niklas, meets Ginny first, which leads to a delightful comedy of errors until she realizes there are two of them.

The mating bond is strong as expected in this author's world, but Ginny is dealing with survivor's guilt while Gideon is fighting a lifetime of abandonment issues so neither one of them is quite ready for what's in store as their undeniable chemistry brings them together.

I really enjoyed the attention to detail with the investigation, and I loved the twists and turns that kept me guessing right up to the end. The emotional depth is balanced by light humor and steamy times, and there are scenes that allow us to catch up with Aleksei and Sybil and Rorik and Poppy.

Ginny and Gideon get a very satisfying HEA and the central investigation is wrapped up, while the overall threat is further revealed and Niklas sets off on a mission that leads into what I'm hoping will be his story in the next book. This is, as usual, a stellar shifter story and I highly recommend all the books in this author's shifter series. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Excellent story. Gideon is trying to solve so many problems working hard without living life. Without his brother he'd practically be a loner. Ginny is hired by the king and queen to find the mole, she works for the agency and was sent by Christina. The story picks right up after the assassination attempt and include all the characters we know. This book is about two people not leaving enough time to have fun, a life or even sleep. Ginny thinks she's broke because of her past and Gideon still remembers his father's final
words regarding love not being worth it. Neither want too be mated but thankfully their animals have other feelings. Niklas also has a few ideas on being mated and being himself tells everyone of Gideon's good fortune. This book is full of spying and espionage a few answers but still mysteries need answering. When they finally get together it's wonderful and full of love and passion. I really enjoyed Gideon's story so glad he's not alone anymore. Anticipating the next book out, such a great series. I voluntarily received an advanced reader copy of this book.

3.5 stars. Pleasantly and overall enjoyable with how this all plays out and I like the direction this is going. I really cannot wait to see how this whole background story plays out and get HEA’s for all the great characters we are meeting.
Unfortunately, I just couldn’t connect with Ginny.
I just couldn’t like Ginny with her closed off attitude and I thought it unprofessional how Ginny behaved, when she just walks into the queen’s apartment and blurts out her suspicions without checking her surroundings first.
Also found it strange that someone with only a years field experience is made head of an agency branch. I understand why, due to her being mates with Gideon and staying in the Northern Isles but I don’t think she has the cudos to run it.
Ginny has not dealt with what happened months ago, ending in the death of her trainer/partner. Where is the support and counselling she should have received from the agency?
Found Gideon had hidden depths and felt sorry for both he and Niklas and their parental issues but these are kept lighter than they should be.
Why did Gideon use his phone to contact the King and Queen instead of telepathy?
I am getting a little bit tired of books with the theme of fighting the mating instinct all the time but quite happily have sex. I must have read too many recently and am feeling jaded. I prefer a good strong connection from the get go with the mates supporting the bother all the way.
This is my honest review of this book.

The second book in the series proves how amazing these Warriors are. Gideon played an important role in book 1. But we only saw a glimpse of him. There was so much more than imaginable. Scholarly, yes. Warrior, yes. Handsome, well duh, he's a dragon! It's like peeling an onion. Then there is Ginny. She had just as many layers. The two worked amazingly well together as a Team in the 'field'. They had no problem with chemistry either. However, emotionally, they were both holding back. Niklas is also very vital to the relationship. For many reasons. The story is filled with passion, action and deep emotion. The mystery and suspense will keep you guessing. Other questions will arise. They will find their HEA, but it won't e easy. The epilogue will leave you wanting more. Like, tomorrow. This is exactly the reason Ms. Montgomery's books will always be at the top of my list. I received an advanced copy and this is my honest opinion.

Gideon is more at home with his job and his books than he is with his emotions. Ginny is on a mission, one that does not involve claiming a mate. For that is what they are. Fighting their attraction to each other is not an easy thing; acting on it will make things more complicated. With each of them fighting the demons of their past, they must overcome the hurdles they face if they have any chance of completing the mating bond. What’s not to love about Gideon? He has many hidden depths. Not only is he hot, he appears to be quiet and nerdy. Peel back the layers and you see his hidden strength, caring nature and dominant streak. Gideon and Ginny’s story is perfection. It’s entertaining and at times made me chuckle. It’s also heartfelt, explosive, challenging and full of twists you wont see coming.

Loved Gideon and Ginny. Can't wait for Niklas to fall as well

Yay Gideon. Wow did Ginny give him a run for his money. It was touch and go for a while there. Ginny works for "The Agency" and is in the northern isles to find the traitor to the king. She meets Niklas but gets confused when she meets him again and he acts as though he doesn't recognise her. Not realising that she met his twin brother Gideon. Loads happened from here on out. She doesn't sleep because of what happen in her past, she doesn't want s mate because she loves her work, she sorts out two people withing the kingdom, Gideon gets kidnapped and she find the traitor to the king. Phew. Lots going on but it was a great read. I can't wait for the next book and hopefully it's his twins turn to find his mate and go though what Gideon went through.

This is Ginny and Gideon’s story!

This is book two and it picks up after book one where the royal guards are looking for who tried to kill the king. The queen has a friend Ginny who is a detective and she asks her to come to the island to work undercover. A fun thing happens and Gideon finds his mate in Ginny. This story is fast with action and a bit of resistance to being mated. The one thing that I did not like about this story was the last big event was disjointed. Everyone, including the king and queen, had been working hard to uncover the assassin, but it was a bit unclear on how it all was wrapped up because the storyline moved on with Ginny and Gideon confession of love. There is a happy ending plus a chapter showing that Niklas is next to find his mate. Read On!

Those quiet guys hide a lot beneath the surface. He may be the quieter twin but there is plenty of heat when he needs his mate.

She is a lion shifter on a mission. Finding her mate is not part of the plan. They try to fight the connection but their fate cannot be denied.

I thought they made a great couple. They both have painful pasts that make it hard for them to seek a relationship. They make a great team as they work to find those plotting against the kingdom.

I recommend reading the books in order. This one picks up right where the order one ends. While it focuses on a different couple, it is very much a continuation of the story.
I am looking forward to the next book.

I really enjoyed this story and the characters. I loved getting to see the characters come together and work things out. Neither one was keen on giving in and accepting that they were fated mates but they just can't stay away. They were both busy with other things for other reasons and thought that they didn't want or need a mate but once it is in your face and you truly understand what it could be like it is hard to continue denying. I enjoyed the action and intrigue that is here as well. Ginny is looking to solve her case and figure out who the inside man is before there is another problem. I have really enjoyed this series so far and am looking forward to more.

Gideon was surprisingly exciting. When we meet him in Warrior, he comes off as, well, like the title says, the scholar. It is easy to forget he would have had to train hard to be part of the Dragon Guard. But, Ginny sure brings out the smexy alpha in him. While they never seen to have any problems with the passion, they both have some emotional issues to open up about before they get their HEA.
The mystery of the attempted assassination and the missing Dragon Guard both get lots of enthralling moments. This one is certainly action packed. And of course, hints for the future.

One thing that was super clear no matter him much you resist once you find your mate theirs no turning back. And with the add it action, drama, suspense, laugh out loud moments, and of course the steamy encounter made for a helluva read. Can't wait for the next book in the series. I adore Ginny. And Gideon *swoon*.....
First off, I wasn't sure what kind of woman Gideon would find attractive and what would he want. Even though we see him in the first book, I hadn't really imagined someone for him. But as Ginny entered the picture, a tough cookie at first, I was blown away. They fit together so nicely. It was amazing.

I loved this story. I loved the ending especially. It brings a lot of promise for the next book and it was an entry into another new world.

Love it - Read it

I knew better to start this book when I had to work. I could never find a place to put it down to get some sleep. So I decided the next chapter then I go further. Got past the 1/2 way point it was 2am w a 5 am get up the same next day so 6 hrs of sleep don’t cut it but SO VERY MUCH WORTH IT! I really loved Gideon and Ginny were so different but the same in similar ways. I was so pissed when Gideon yelled at Westly,it took a long time for me to forgive him for that. I was so glad that Ginny and Gideon worked things out.

Dragon finds his kitty love

I absolutely adore her books. They are fun, easy and quick to read.
Filled with dragons, romance, excellent one liners and drama. Characters are charming and engaging. Northern Isle seem beautiful and cold with its vivid blue and greens and black sandy beaches. The scenery transports you to a fantasy island filled with hot as sin dragons guarding a king and queen. As much as I enjoy the island life I still miss the Blackstone mountains.
Highly recommended series for reader that enjoy shifter series with true mate happily ever afters.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader copy of this book. The story continues in the second book of this series, this time Ginny and Gideon are about to find out they're mates. And what a journey it is. From Gideon still trying to find the lost prince and information about the Wand by studying books Ginny's on the look for the mole. The latter brings both of them in immediate danger. The two of them are perfect for each other. A very great story I very much enjoyed reading.

Another great book by Alicia Montgomery. This is Ginny and Godwin’s story. This story proves that no matter how much u resist once you find your mate that’s it. Both Ginny and Gideon have their own problems with commitment but they can’t deny the attraction. Also finally the mystery of the missing prince was answered at the end and I can’t wait to find out more in the next book.

The second book in this series revolves around Gideon and Ginny. These two stubborn shifters are determined not to give in to the fated mate. While they both have their reasons why, they should know that it's pointless to argue with fate. In the end the result will always be the same...fated mate 1 stubborn shifter 0. Looking forward to book 3. I received an Advance Reader's Copy of this book which I am voluntarily reviewing

There is nothing sexier than a man who knows his way around the library. And while Gideon is well versed in literature, full of knowledge about history and court courtesies, he is lost at how to deal with the unexpected in the form of his mate. Can his real issue of abandonment be overcome by taking a chance? Will he give his dragon the mate they both deserve? Can he be the one to put to rest Ginny's own survivor's guilt? Will they solve the mystery of who tried to assassinate the royal family?

I love reading about the Northern Isles dragons. It’s amazing how the author finds a way to connect all these series and characters. We get to revisit previous characters and meet a few new ones. This one brings a lioness from Blackstone to help to find a mole within the realm. There will be plenty of danger and spy work to find the culprit. The romance is great and builds throughout the story. I love all of Ms Montgomery’s books and this is a great addition to them.

Gideon and Ginny

Ginny an agent for shifter protection agency and a friend of the queen was brought in undercover to find the mole in the palace after the king was almost killed. Gideon a dragon guard was to help her and knew that they were mates, but she fought it. They found who was against the king ruling and after Gideon was kidnapped the mole. They kept looking for the missing prince and cure for the wand. Great book need the next book quickly!

Loved this story so much. Remember Ginny, Gabriel's sister from Blackstone Ranger Charmer? Well this is her love story with Gideon. It was interesting how she tried to fight the mating bond but she couldn't fight fate and Gideon. Their story was just so exciting and heart pounding. Trying to build a relationship amongst dangerous threats to their kind was difficult but sure was exciting. I can't wait for the next story in the series and for some questions to be answered.

Dragon Guard Scholar

This book continues the search for the missing dragon and wand. When the King is almost killed by 3 assassins Queen Sybil contacts her family in the US and they send an uncover agent to help them locate the mole who told the assassins when to strike. Ginny is a lioness shifter who is the undercover agent and when she meets Gideon things don't go the way she expected. This book was exciting to read. I really enjoyed it.
