For years, Hannah Green ran from the truth, but after being sexually assaulted and then finding herself with nowhere to live, she was forced to confront the sexual abuse she had endured as a child.
She experienced homelessness for over a year and was moved from place to place, having been let down by multiple different services. She turned to drugs and alcohol, until she was introduced to a few people who truly understood... and introduced her to surfing.
An honest, real and raw account of recovery after childhood sexual abuse and sexual assault. The author also experiences homelessness and has to move from place to place all whilst dealing with her PTSD. She shows us that recovery from trauma is not a straight or easy path but one that is possible with the right support. I know this book will help many
"You made me see that I was more than the things I had been through"
Hannah Green lays her soul bare, describing in the rawest and most brutal fashion her experiences of homelessness and the traumatic experiences that led her there. Do not expect an easy read, but do expect honesty and passion from a young woman who has been on a journey not of her choosing, but of her making. Wonderfully written, this is a book about the darker side of our society - one that we should all be encouraged to confront if things are ever to improve.
It's not all doom and gloom, though. There is incredible hope in this book, too. Hannah's story is one that needed to be told, and in 'My Journey Home' she tells it perfectly. A beacon for future generations and filled with hope for the emotional and physical well-being of all those that feel stuck in the desperate position that she has managed to lift herself from.
I was and still am so proud of Hannah for all the hard work she has put into writing this book and to be able share her experiences with everyone. I was so honoured to be able to read a draft from within her book and I truly think it will inspire so many people. I can not wait to get my hands on a copy of my own and to read the whole thing.
This book is an inspirational account of a young woman telling her story and giving the reader hope for the future. I was privileged enough to read the draft prior to publishing and I’m so proud of Hannah for deciding to turn her traumatic past into something so positive and helpful to others. Please buy and read - you won’t regret it and you’ll come away with a whole new perspective on life. :)
My Journey Home perfectly encapsulates the diverse issues that all too often go unspoken of to the wider public. This book educates the reader on so many aspects of homelessness, addiction and mental health battles through Hannahs own hardships and leaves the reader wanting to delve deeper into societal issues. A great, thought provoking, heart-felt read.
Hannah's book is an emotional account of a young persons experience, of an all too familiar journey. From adversity to triumph. From Survivor to Thriver. Hannah's story can be a beacon of hope for others who find themselves in similar situations. A very well written book.
Power, raw, gritty. Wow this is an amazing book to read and what an inspiring story. Hannah’s experiences would break most of us but she continues to fight her demons and then tell the world......wow. She will change lives by sharing her story so I’m in awe of her. Truly inspiring.
Thank you Hannah Green who shared her lived experience so eloquently and authentically. The importance of really listening to someone and the power and impact of relationships that provided the time to listen were some of the powerful messages from Hannah’s experiences.
