For Cora Kincaid, life on Perfect Place Lane is… well… perfect.
But when her eight-year-old daughter doesn’t come home from school, Cora’s gut tells her something is wrong. Her shy child wouldn’t wander away. Was Eleanor kidnapped? If so, by whom?
The Liars Island mom’s group believe human traffickers are driving the island looking to abduct children. But Cora thinks their warnings overdramatic.
Then the police compile a list of possibilities and Cora realizes their lives aren’t so perfect after all. That Cora has more to fear than she realized. Even her neighbors are keeping dark secrets.
The clock is ticking. Will they find Eleanor before it’s too late?
Welcome to Liar’s Island… a stand-alone series of interconnected, novella length domestic thrillers set in the picture-perfect community of Liars Island. Here, nothing is quite as it seems.
On this island, families and friendships are more than meets the eye… secrets, deceptions, and jealousies threaten to ruin everything these influential people have built. But it isn’t only the rich that live here… and power comes in all shapes and sizes. Everyone here is a liar… just how far would you go to get what you want?
A bite-sized suspense novel that you can read in one sitting. Fast paced and full off tension. A quick fix for the busy reader.
Perfect Place is part of the Liars Island ongoing short story series, a group of novellas written by various authors centered not on similar characters but the location, Liars Island. While I'm not reviewing each one individually I did want to call attention to Perfect Place because the author, Robbie Peale is new to me and, maybe, newish to writing as well. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, the characters and the plot. All were well written and fully developed despite the constraint of the short story scenario. I look forward to reading more from Peale and hope you'll check out this one as well.
Hi, In case you didn't know this- Robbie Peale is a pen name for Kristi Rose. If you're looking for a short, quick read that leaves you breathless with twist and turns- check out this book. Thanks!
I must say this was absolutely fantastic! First I’ve read from this author and it was gripping from page one. Will definitely be looking out for future works. One of my favourite of this collection of books so far!
“You see what you want... You’re looking for monsters, and you don’t even realize that everyone around you is some sort of monster.” -Perfect Place
Cora Kincaid’s life is, in a word, perfect. She has a loving, successful writer-husband, a precious 8 year old daughter, a career she is passionate about, and a home in an idyllic setting on Liar’s Island. Everything about this place is perfect; well, mostly. Until it isn’t. Until the day her daughter doesn’t come home from school and her perfect place is turned upside down. What ensues is ‘19 Hours’ of emotion churning, heart rending anguish, as Cora and her husband search for their baby girl.
I have read and loved other stories by Robbie Peale’s alter ego... from the Samantha True mysteries to her No Strings Attached romantic comedy series. She has the ability to shift genres and lead us from light hearted laughter to a much darker intensity. She definitely knows how to give us all the feels.
Perfect Place leads you down that darker path. I found myself thinking over the story and it’s characters, even after I set it aside to care for trifling things like sleep (and then of course breakfast because, you know, kiddos gotta eat ;-)) Mind you, PP is novella length and can absolutely be read in one sitting- I just couldn’t wait to start it and then to get back to it. The unknowns; the possibilities of who could have taken this young girl playing in my mind, and yearning for the best outcome. (As a mama, my heart ached!)
It’s definitely worthy of a read and will revisit this tale myself. It was also my introduction to Liar’s Island. Now I want to go back and get to know some of the other residents, as well as their new-to-me author creators, and see how the stories interconnect. I would also love to see if Cora’s idea at the end comes to fruition... will there be more Ms. Peale?
*I received Perfect Place as an ARC for my honest review.
An 8 year old goes missing from an island community near Seattle. Most people are eager to help find her, but there are some neighbors who harbor resentment.
As the police try to find her and her abductor, they uncover some inconvenient truths about people in the community.
This is a fast paced book and a quick read. It's very well done. I enjoyed reading the story. There are some mature themes in this book, but I think it can be read and enjoyed by almost any reader.
I received an advance reader copy of the book from the author. This is my honest review.
I am normally not one for mysteries, my heart goes all wild and it's hard for my tender heart to deal. But my goodness, I am glad I read this book. I was right there with Cora and Sawyer in heartbreak as they search for their daughter Ellie! Nothing is as it seems, and isn't that the truth! I couldn't put this book down! Read the first two chapters the first night and burned through the rest of the book the following evening. Read this book! You wont be disappointed!
Cora doesn't think that her 8yr old daughter would be kidnapped. She and her husband, Sawyer almost lost their minds looking for their daughter, Ellie. She didn't get home after being dropped by her school bus. I liked that this took place in 12 hours, chapter is within those hours and that the couple didn't turn to each other due to their missing daughter but helped and supported each other until they found their daughter.
A little girl goes missing after she gets off the bus. She lives in a perfect house with perfect neighbors in a perfect place. Wow lots of perfect and not a lot of mystery honestly. I knew who had taken the girl way early in the short book so I guess that ruined it for me. And to make matters worse the story has been told just like this short story over and over. Nothing new or special.
A mystery/suspense short novel. Lovely story. Kept me interested the whole time. Intriguing characters and settings. This story has definitely left me wanting more of the Liar’s Island series. Congrats to this author, on there debut of writing suspense mystery. Well done.
Book 14 in the Liars Island Suspense series. I'm hoping that you have started this series by now and even though these can be read alone and they don't take much time to get through I don't think you want to miss anything
Though a little gory at times, I was mesmerized by this book - a somewhat light read with a little bit of everything in it. Very enjoyable, quick read.
