A toxic relationship crumbled my self-esteem, so when my uncle needs someone to temporarily run his butcher shop, I swap the hectic city for small-town life.
I have no idea what butchering entails, and Wilder James, the sexy—albeit grumpy—rancher, reminds me of it every time I see him.
His snap judgment of me because I’m a city girl is infuriating, but I’m forced to work with him. It isn’t until he begins to drop his guard that I learn the reasons for the walls around his heart.
My ex’s words cut deep, sitting like invisible wounds on my skin, but Wilder is crumbling every insecurity, showing me what it feels like to be wanted.
My time in Mason Creek is temporary, and soon I’ll have to say the hardest goodbye.
I am an indie author who writes contemporary romance and women's fiction. You'll often find southern gentleman in my books and a love for country music. Coffee fiend and star gazer.
I love these books; some of the best small-town indie authors out there have put together a fantastic series. The tenth book in the Mason Creek series is written, in my opinion, by one of the best creating a small-town story. The town is full of characters, gossip, and good food! I adore Hallie and Wilder, and their story seamlessly fits into the town of Mason Creek.
Everything happens for a reason. Hallie is needed to help her uncle, so she leaves a bad boyfriend situation behind in NYC to spend some time in the small town of Mason Creek. Unfortunately, the big city lights have burned Wilder as he lost his first love to its draw.
What makes this story unique is the writing. The way the characters are written had me invested from the first meeting. Watching them work through past hurts, leaving comfort zones, and making new dreams, is a journey everyone should read.
Thank you to the author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review
Perfect Mess by Fabiola Francisco is the 10th book of the Mason Creek Series. A series full of small town love stories. ♡
Perfect Mess is the wonderful love story of Hallie and Wilder. Hallie agrees to help her uncle in his butcher shop in Mason Creek. She lives in New York but definitely needs the setting change after a bad break-up with her ex. Can this pretty little small town heal her broken heart? And what does the sexy and grumpy rancher Wilder has to do with it?! Well... READ this book to find out more! 😉
I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS BOOK! I love small town romances! When you fall in love with it that you just wanna pack your bags and move - that's always a good sign! LOL Perfect Mess is my first book of this series and I honestly can't wait to read all the other stories too! Buuut I digressed. Back to Hallie and Wilder! I just loved them right from the beginning! They're so different. She's from a big city and kinda shy and insecure. He's a rancher from the small town and he knows what he wants. Different but so perfect for each other! I was kinda addicted to their love story! I couldn't stop reading because I NEEDED to know how it'll continue! Awwwww and Wilder made me swoon more than once! DAMN! 😍 I also loved the whole development of their story! How they dealt with certain situations. There was always support and encouragement! It was so inspiring! I swooned sooooo much because I loved their story and all the people in Mason Creek! PERECT MESS left me with such a good feeling inside of me. Of course I'm sad that I finished this book too soon but there's always the chance to go back to Hallie and Wilder. 😉 Or I can meet all the other people in Mason Creek. So many possibilities! LOL.
Thank you Fabiola Francisco for another wonderful story! I knew you wouldn't disappoint! ❤
The infamous Mason Creek Series is back with a brand new journey and what a romance this was. Fabiola Francesca is a brand spanking new to me author y'all and I have to say that I really, really enjoyed this book a whole lot and the journey she wrote.
Perfect Mess was all kinds of good and whoa. Just wait until you meet Hallie and Wilder. It's it temporary or forever? ...... I really liked them y'all. This was packed to the brims with good stuff. All the heart. All the heat. All of the feels. All the goodness.
Mason Creek has yet to disappoint me (we are ten books deep now!) and I look forward to the next!
Fabiola has done it again. She is the QUEEN of small-town romances.
Hallie is the big-city girl and Wilder is the small-town grumpy rancher. Two completely opposite people that ultimately make the most sense. Hallie’s time in Mason Creek had a time limit but watching Wilder and her decide to see where their attraction would go was timeless.
There was so much going on in the book that it was hard to put down. Hallie learned so much from her experiences in this small town. I loved that she found her “home”. From reuniting with family, to making new friends and learning that her ex-boyfriend was a huge jerk for longer than she wanted to admit, this book was more of Hallie finding and loving herself than anything else. I think we all could learn to love ourselves a little more.
Perfect Mess is a Perfect Five Star read! A perfect mesh of adventure and romance that kept me glued to these pages right until the end.
Hallie has low esteem fed by a jerk of an ex who constantly berated her for her curves. When she leaves NYC and comes to Mason Creek to help out her uncle after his injury, she immediately clashes with Wilder, a nearby rancher. He was hurt deeply years before and guards his heart. Until a little bunny saver, well, she tried, anyway, got under his skin and opened his heart.
This sweet romantic story is a lovely read you won't want to put down!
Wilder …. Wilder … Wilder …. Can there be a more perfect man? This man was everything; from rude and grumpy in the beginning to everything possible in the end. I loved Hallie’s character; she was courageous to leave her home to help her uncle and to leave the ex since she knew she deserved better. Also I’m in love with this town! The story flowed so well and it’s one of my favorite happily ever afters.
Let me start this review by saying nothing and I mean NOTHING about this story is a "mess". It was an absolutely beautifully written story about 2 people who are wondering about trying to find a place or person to call home.
Both Wilder and Hallie are such a great couple. Their relationship was a thing of beauty to experience. I don't have words to express how happy I was after finishing this book. I absolutely love the banter, side characters and all the swoon one heart can take.

Two people of opposite worlds collide in Perfect Mess and it mixes oh-so-well! But that's what Fabiola does, she creates characters that compliment one another in the most captivating, pull your heart all in way, and leaves your soul soaring!
If you're into grumpy cowboys and lovable city girls, Perfect Mess is the sweet, sexy, and heartwarming small-town romance that you need in your life!
The story is kind of cute but would have been better if the characters weren’t so insecure. It slow the story way to much and make the characters too whiny
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is an absolutely perfect sweet and swoony read. I loved Wilder even when he was a moody grump. And Hallie was just perfect. Their story was perfect for them despite my heart being in my mouthba few times. It was so happy by the end if the story with how it all worked out. A fantastic story that you are guaranteed to love.
This book was absolutely fantastic! I was hooked from the very first page! I absolutely loved this book and I can’t wait for other readers to fall for Hallie and Wilder just like I did! I can’t wait for Fabiola’s next project!
If you haven’t noticed by the previous reviews I’ve been posting for the last week or so, I’ve slightly formed an addiction to the Mason Creek series. What can I say, I love small town romances. And If I’m being completely honest, I feel a sense of nostalgia when reading this series. It makes me miss my small hometown, and I’m pretty sure that is the main reason why I keep coming back for more!
In My Own Words:
The opportunity to stay with her uncle Sal in Mason Creek, Montana couldn’t have come at a better time in Hallie’s life. After breaking up with her emotionally abusive boyfriend, she finds herself fleeing the city life for a more calming environment.
Broody rancher Wilder James swore off relationships years ago due to one irrevocable heartbreak. But once the man sets his sights on the city girl, he feels it deep in his soul, this woman is going to be hard to ignore… Everything from her smile to her warm heart has his spirit crying out for her. Hallie is the type of woman who can bring the strongest of man to his knees with one single look. He knows her stay in Mason Creek isn’t permanent… Is he willing to risk another substantial heartbreak for a few months of pure bliss?
My Thoughts:
The more I read this series, the more I’m finding myself falling head over boots in love with not only this small town, but all of the characters in this town. I’ve been waiting for Wilder James’ story since I first saw him enter the Mason Creek series. There was something about this man’s personality and broody vibes that caught my attention. I needed to know his story, and I need it now! Wilder just rode off into the sunset with my heart! This man was everything I expected.. And so much more!
Hallie came as a surprise to me and between you and me, she’s my favorite heroine in this series! I loved the purity she carried with her actions and her kind heart. This woman has been burned in the worst possible ways and through the hellish journey her self confidence was stolen from her. It’s always the ones with the softest hearts who break easily. Now Hallie has to learn to stand on her own, build her confidence back up, and learn to live again. I found Hallie’s journey empowering. I loved watching her slowly gian her confidence back.
I loved Wilder’s attitude during Hallie’s hard moments. This man didn’t judge her for feeling this certain way about herself. Instead he helped Hallie see herself in the light he saw her in. My heart swooned so hard during these moments. My heart is incredibly full right now. I’m having a hard time putting my feelings into actual words.
Now onto why I dropped a half star rating, I felt Wilder’s history was an important part to this romance and sadly, I would have liked a few more details on the relationship that initially broke his heart. I wanted to get inside his head and see that moment that had a lasting impression on the man who seems like he’s as strong as steel. I wanted just a little bit more substance from this man.
Overall, Fabiola Francisco wrote one hell of a romance, Wilder and Hallie’s romance is definitely one of my Mason Creek favorites and I can already see this novel sticking with me through all of Mason Creek History! If you love small town romances with an opposites attract trope, I highly recommend you pick up this standalone romance!!
A grumpy cowboy rancher and a city girl in town for a brief stay, what could possibly go wrong? Absolutely nothing but pure perfection, funny banter, and steamiest of moments. I stayed up all night with Wilder and Hallie laughing, swooning, and loving both so much. Wilder and Hallie meet when she first is coming to Mason Creek, which by the way is the cutest small town ever, but instantly Wilder has some prejudice against this city girl. Hallie was such a great character who worked hard, wanted to prove to herself she could do anything, and she loved hard. They both had their own insecurities by being burned in the past, so they go back and forth with this attraction not knowing if they should even react to it. They both have preconceived notions about each other, at times Hallie only sees a grumpy rancher and Wilder only sees a city girl who knows nothing about the country, but are they willing to see if there is more to each other? Wilder shows Hallie she deserves so much, is truly beautiful inside and out, and helps her see her worth. He stole my heart with his words but took over as my top book boyfriend spot with his actions. Can Wilder and Hallie hold on to what they are creating, or will reality come crashing down around them? Will Hallie finally see she is perfectly imperfectly beautiful? This author slays me with every book boyfriend she comes up with and Wilder has ruined me and owns me now This town, the characters, the bonds shared won me over and I am in love with it all.
"You're a perfect mess. Life isn't flawless. It can't be planned down to the minute detail."
Perfect Mess is such a beautiful and sweet small town romance about finding your place in this world.
Jobless and fresh out of a toxic relationship, Hallie sets off to Montana from NYC to help her injured uncle with his butcher shop. Hoping to clear her head and find life direction, she instead falls for Mason Creek's charm and one of its cowboys.
Wilder is a sexy rancher who has thrown himself into his work after being left broken hearted by the childhood sweetheart he thought he'd one day marry. He has little time for a personal life, and no interest in relationships. And then he meets the town's newest resident, and falls...hard.
Though these two have a bit of a shaky, yet humorous initial meeting, they are soon giving the residents of Mason Creek something to talk about.
Their relationship is super sweet, and though neither wants to get hurt, they can't deny their need to explore what is in front of them. Even if there may be heartache at the end.
I LOVED Wilder. He is such a swoon worthy book boyfriend. I love how he sees Hallie and how he is so dedicated to helping her to see what he does - a strong, capable, and beautiful woman.
I'm a big fan of how this story was written. The way the characters communicated and dealt with their feelings and past issues. There is a realness to both characters that makes them relatable to the reader! Highly recommend!
This is the first book in this 12 book series that I've read, and I'm already in love with this town and looking forward to more of it.

Perfect Mess is book ten from Mason Creek twelve book series by twelve bestselling authors, all connected together by one fictional small town. This book can be read as a complete standalone and focuses on Wilder and Hallie.
Wilder is ALL man. He's hard working, rugged, sexy, sweet, caring, and at times broody but an overall gentleman. If this is what cowboys are really made of, sign me up! He started off as a jerk letting his past project his judgement but quickly morphed into quite the swoony hero.
I found Hallie to be relatable. She has many insecurities, struggling to find a job where she can utilize her degree, newly single from a toxic relationship, and is trying to find herself. She's hard working, motivated, has a big heart, and would never hurt a fly. She was def an animal lover.
The chemistry between these two was palpable. The plot was realistic, sweet, funny, and at times heart breaking. The story flowed beautifully and you could connect to the characters on a deeper level, feeling the heartache and torment they went through as well as their happy moments. There were strong supporting characters, which I hope to see get books in the future, particularliy Joy.
** I WAS GIVEN AN ADVANCED READERS COPY IN EXCHANGE FOR MY HONEST REVIEW **
This is my first book by Fabiola and I am a fan!
I loved how Wilder and Hallie came to life on the page. How past traumas shaped every aspect of how their relationship came to be.
Hallie was overcoming a past toxic situation that left her with so much self-doubt and issues on the job front that dinged her already damaged self-confidence. Wilder didn't want to go through the anguish of heartbreak again after being destroyed by the woman he thought he was going to marry.
So naturally, he falls for the lost girl who is only in town temporarily. While Hallie remembers Wilder and the huge crush she had years ago when she uses to come to town on vacations. Wilder sees her for the first time and isn't sure what to expect but there is a pull he cannot deny no matter how much he tries.
I love how there climax and drama that comes with the book is not the easiest one to see and how it feels more real in the emotional aspect, as well as the reconsilliation.
Wilder is a sexy, broody, hot, cowboy. He has had his heartbroken before and has steered away from relationships. Hallie is coming out of a troubled relationship and needs an escape. So, when her uncle calls for help at his butcher shop, she does not hesitate to go to Mason Creek. From their first meeting, Wilder is drawn to Hallie. Little does he know that Hallie is no stranger to Mason Creek. She used to visit when she was younger and always had a crush on the cowboy.
Perfect Mess is refreshing and delightful! Love how Wilder sees Hallie the way she deserves to be seen. He shows her how sexy and beautiful she is in all his encounters with her. These two are patient and give the other space to tell their stories from relationships past. Enjoyed Hallie’s uncle and Patty’s interactions as well. The small town of Mason Creek has so much to offer. The characters are supportive and encouraging and all have their own stories. Perfect Mess is book ten of the twelve book series and I encourage you to start with this one if you have not yet.
I was pulled right into this story. The story has laughs, and heartbreak.
The below are part of this series if you want to read those books(s) first Perfect Risk (Mason Creek #1) by C.A. Harms Perfect Song (Mason Creek #2) by Lauren Runow Perfect Love (Mason Creek #3) by A.M. Hargrove Perfect Night (Mason Creek #4) by Terri E. Laine Perfect Tragedy (Mason Creek #5) by Jennifer Miller Perfect Escape (Mason Creek #6) by Cary Hart Perfect Summer (Mason Creek #7) by Bethany Lopez Perfect Embrace (Mason Creek #8) by Kaylee Ryan Perfect Kiss (Mason Creek #9) by Lacey Black
This is Hallie and Wilder’s story. She is in town after getting out a relationship that was toxic. He uncle needs help, and she steps up. When she meets Wilder things don’t get off to a great start. She is beat down from her relationship and it makes her seem shy. Neither of these two were looking for anything but they just might be what each other needs. But with the walls they have built up can they try for something? After all she was just here for a temporary change of scene.
Perfect Mess was honestly a very sweet read. I truly enjoyed the pure small town love that came pouring off the pages. Im truly going to miss this series when it’s done! Hallie has just broken up with her verbally abusive boyfriend. Her uncle who owns the Mason Creek butcher shop has broken his leg and needs her help. So it’s the perfect time for her to get away. How hard can it be for a New York city girl to fill in for a small town butcher? She actually did better then I was Expecting. Let’s not forget she had the help of Wilder the local rancher who was willing to help her any time she needed him and he was easy on the eyes. These two had amazing chemistry and laugh out banter that made the story even better! Then there is our favorite part of Mason Creek the town gossip and the quirky people that make us coming back for more. I love that not only is each author putting their own spin on Mason Creek but are truly developing and adding on to each other’s stories. I’m already looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
I'm absolutely in love with this series and Perfect Mess was another fantastic story from Mason Creek. Hallin and Wilder had me invested in their story from their very first meeting.
Hallie has found herself in Mason Creek, she's from New York but after leaving a toxic relationship she's here to help her sick uncle with his shop. She's a little shy and timid and due to her past relationship doesn't really think that highly of herself. Wilder is a rancher, and he knows what he wants. When he meets Hallie on the side of the road their first meeting isn't that inviting but there is something about her that strikes a cord.
Both Hallie and Wilder are far from looking for a relationship when they meet but the more they get to know each other the more their hearts become involved.
I loved Hallie and Wilder they were perfect for each other the way Wilder got Hallie to belive in herself and her beauty and how he wasn't afraid to show her exactly how he felt about her definitely made me swoon.
Hallie was nursing a breakup and the inability to find a job in her line of work in New York when she arrived in Mason Creek, Montana. Helping her Uncle Sal with running the butcher shop while he's recuperating may or may not be the ticket to figuring out what she wants out of life. She didn't expect to run into any grumpy men, but that she did. They got off on the wrong foot, but once they got over that initial meeting and get to know each other, they spark the beginnings of a great relationship. The only thing is, Wilder is too wild about the fact that Hallie is an out of towner. He's been burned once before. These two soon realize that the grass isn't always greener on the other side and they'll get their turn at an HEA. After all, if it shows up in the MC Scoop, it's going to come true. The author crafted a story that makes a great addition to the Mason Creek Series. The characters are realistic and relatable.
I received an advance copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.
Perfect Mess is a small town, opposites attract romance read. It is part of the multi author Mason Creek series and is a definite must read romance if you are a fan of either of these tropes. I am loving this series and am a huge fan of Fabiola’s books - Nobody writes grumpy, sexy cowboys like Fabiola Francisco.
Wilder is all kinds of deliciously sexy, cowboy hat wearing, goodness. He and his grumpy self can darken my doorstep any day 😉. Hallie is fresh out of an emotionally abusive relationship - my heart went out to her. She is a seriously loyal and loving woman and the perfect match for Wilder. Wilder puts up the good fight and tries really hard to ignore his attraction to the curvy city girl. But it’s a lost cause as they both fall head over heels in love.
Big City meets Country in this read in one sitting romance, Perfect Mess gets the judy.ann.loves.books stamp of approval. TBR and Enjoy!
Fabiola is the queen of small town romance! She does such a great job creating the perfect setting for her romantic stories. Perfect Mess is another perfect example for that. Emotional, beautiful with the perfect amount of sexiness, self discovery and self acceptance, and going for what your heart and soul desires.
I loved the story. Curvy insecure city girl meets the hot local town single rancher. Their connection is undeniable and strong, but would past love experiences, job insecurities and fear of the unknown stop them from persuading the strong pull they have. Or will they put everything on the line including their hearts and take this one shot of true and beautiful and honest love? Well you’ll have to read to find out 😉
I loved the side characters. I can’t wait to go back and read some of the other books in the series and get future books for some of the other characters.
This is one of those stories that will grab you by the heartstrings and tug hard. I have been in love with this world that has been created with Mason Creek and Francisco’s addition is one of my favorites. I think it is because it deals with how we look at ourselves and how much damage it does to us mentally. My heart ached for Haille and everything she is going through mentally. I felt what she felt. I felt what Wilder felt. These two connected on another level and it was so intense and passionate even though they got off on a rocky start. Their push and pull was beautiful and the build throughout the story really hits you with the feels. This book is one that really stuck out for me in the series because I think I connected to those emotions and trauma that Haille went through because I had been there. I had to deal with the exact same emotions and work through them. It was raw and powerful. I could not get enough of this series and I highly recommend this one, the whole world of Mason Creek really!
Hallie comes to Mason Creek to help her uncle after he breaks his leg. She is just out of a relationship with a narcissistic jerk who did nothing but tear her down, so her confidence level is low. She had a crush on Wilder when she used to visit when she was younger. She intends on going back to New York once her uncle is better.
Wilder is a rancher, has lived in Mason Creek his whole life Andy intends to stay. He was in a relationship with someone who decided Mason Creek wasn’t for her after he waited for her through her college years. He doesn’t want a temporary relationship.
What happens when two people are so attracted to each other that they find it hard to stay away? Will they risk heartbreak? What happens when Hallie goes back to New York? Do they risk it all and dive in or do they avoid the relationship they just might be building?
Fabiola Francisco has a way with small town romance… these towns make me want to be a part of them! I loved this book!
This book was so aptly made. A perfect mess is exactly what Hallie is. Her ex was a piece of dog poo ( since I can't cuss). He tore her to pieces and it broke my heart that I cried. It's hard when you have self-esteem issues and someone just keeps breaking you. For Hallie, she's able to leave and help her uncle out. She doesn't know anything about butchering animals, but she's about to find out. A chance encounter with Wilder and her life is about to change. Wilder doesn't need to deal with a woman he is happy on his own. When he meets Hallie though something changes. They clash together and banter like no other, but Wilder's heart is huge and he's about to show Hallie how beautiful she really is. When it's time up for Hallie to go back will she? What's the saying "set it free if it loves you it will come back and if not bye". Sorry can't remember the whole thing but you get it. Fall in love with Mason Creek and its residence.
The opportunity to help her Uncle by looking after his butcher shop in Mason Creek while he recovers from an injury is the perfect excuse for Hallie to get away from ... well her life, what she doesn't expect is to see her childhood crush Wilder. Wilder is a bit judgy Mcjudge pants when he first runs into Hallie as well as the next few times, but that soon turns into wanting to know more about her even though he doesn't like that he is finally attracted to someone after having his heart broken and also knowing Hallie is only in town for so long. This is a sweet read that has you along with the town rooting for Hallie and Wilder to get together, but as we all know love isn't always smooth sailing and these two really do like to take the rocky road to obtain a HEA so get ready for laughs, eye rolls, a town that doesn't mind their own business and some sweet and also sad moments along with the will thy or won't they!
Another brilliant read from this absolutely fantastic series and this time its is Fabiola's turn. She has done an amazing job with Wilder and Hallie's story. She filled it with heart and steam.
I loved Hallie and Wilder. Hallie is new to Mason's Creek, she has come to help her Uncle out at his butchers shop but Wilder we have met in previous books.
When you meet the one you know and once Wilder stopped trying to deny his feelings he knew Hallie was the one to help him live again, to love hard even if there was a risk that she was only there temporarily and he might lose her.
I honestly loved this authors style of writing, she drew me in from the beginning and held my attention throughout. I am looking forward to seeing what else she has in her writing backlist.
