Wilder's second book of the Iron Mountain series was every bit as wonderful as the first! The jam packed action scenes propel the story forward and the imagination used with creating the animals was impressive. Pierce's and Tova's love affair ramps up, and the couple are depicted as a healthy combination of a strong female and supportive male which makes for an equal relationship. A great YA fantasy novel - well done!
Defending Pierce is the second installment of Wilder's Iron Mountain Series. Defending Pierce picks up in the aftermath of Protecting Tova and immediately draws you with the realistic struggles of recovery after a battle. There is love, suspense, passion, and danger. Woven throughout the story. Wilder created some really well-written action scenes that are dripping with anticipation. Defending Pierce completes the storyline between Pierce and Tova and leaves off with Dani-Joe’s story ready to pick up.
Defending Pierce was a well-balanced conclusion to Tova’s journey in becoming a protector. Filled with romance, action and a touch of dystopian. The spelling and grammar issues are the reason for a 4-star review.
This book was great, with fantastic world building and lots of action to keep you on the edge of your seat. It was beautiful to see the love between the characters growing more and the little hints of foreshadowing for future books has me excited to dive into them. If you like fantasy, and dystopian books with a touch of sweet romance then pick up this series. It leaves you wanting more...but it's worth it!
Book : Defending Pierce Version : Kindle Author : Havana Wilder Rating : 4.8/5💫
This book is the part 2 of the series with regard to Iron Mountain, the parallel universe beyond the earth that has to be protected from the attacks as well from the effects of dust ( residue of the elements that destroyed the people several hundred years ago). We have protectors whose job is to protect the iron mountain. The first book is about protecting the female protagonist Tova. Here the book begins with a breathtaking incident where Tova is injured and she is dangling between life and death. When she opens her eyes she understands she is protected by a team that has Pierce and the medical team that has Mr.Hughes. They recollect the incidents of the horrors where Iron Mountain is attacked and the way several protectors were injured and wounded due to the attacks. Pierce gets to know about the laboratory of Mr. Hughes which surprises him. As Tova recovers Pierce and she start to discuss about the way Iron mountain , their friends and Pierce can be protected. The story takes a different turn as a few protectors’ start conspiring against Pierce and start doubting him. Each chapter begins with the image of Tova and Pierce , and the story is very interactive. The cover page has amazing colour combination and it is attractive. The writing style and narration is gripping. The characterization is amazing. The bond between the team members of protectors is well described. Will Tova ever recover and be back to her normal self? What happens to Pierce ? Will Pierce be able to become a protector that he had always imagined? How is Mr.Hughes instrumental in saving all of them? A lot of questions , aren’t they? Do read the book to co-journey with Pierce and Tova.
DEFENDING PIERCE is the second book in the Iron Mountain series and it continues where we left off. As such, you really need to read this as a series rather than a set of standalones.
I loved book one and couldn't wait to read this one. I think I'm in the minority though that, by the end, I preferred book one to this one. Pierce and Tova are still a fantastic couple, working hard for the life they want, and prepared to both accept help and also give help to others in order to achieve it.
In following the story arc, we are reintroduced to one of Tova's friends that sort of disappeared between the cracks in book one, plus we find new characters who help the story to move along. Some of the characters' personality changes didn't make a lot of sense to me but then we only caught glimpses of them in the previous book. Hank is one HUGE character that I adored.
The pacing is fast and action-packed, yet still gives you slow times, which allowed me to get my breath back. Mainly told from the perspectives of Pierce and Tova, you do get the odd chapter told by a different character, which leads nicely onto the next book. There were a number of spelling mistakes that jolted me out of the story. I am not sure if I had a final copy or if it is still being proofread.
Although it has dropped a star, I still thoroughly enjoyed this book, and can't wait for the next. Definitely recommended by me.

I received an advanced copy of this and I am leaving this review honestly.
I love that this book started precisely where the other 1st book Protecting Tova left off. We are still in a dual point of view, jumping between Tova and Pierce. The characters for the 1st book are still the main characters in this book which I absolutely love. Tova is getting better slowly, and of course, something crazy has to happen. But, it can't all be roses and sweet romance. This book's conflict is not one I saw coming but makes sense given the battle at the end of the last book. I do believe you need to read these to understand the characters and relationships in the book. Pierce is talented, strong, and very protective, but can he protect himself from the charges. Are they gonna get to say their vows? Will he eventually show her the loft? I love watching this couple get closer, and so far, this book is a fantastic read. I did enjoy that a resolution to one conflict was quickly discovered, but of course, there is always more. The author lets us further into her fantasy world by explaining holidays, traditions, and beliefs. Happiness comes as a surprise, but I love how thoughtful Pearce is and how surprised Tova was. The actual intimate scenes are only hinted at not fully described making This book appropriate for a young adult audience. This book is sweet, action-packed, and will definitely give you all the feelings. I don't know how many times I cried while reading it. I love how insightful the characters are to themselves and others. This was a fantastic story full of love, hope, and edge-of-your-seat surprise. Pierce and Tova were an amazing set of characters to watch mature in this book with their talents and friends. All the protectors were marvelous, and I love how the family was so important. The author did a fantastic job creating this fantasy story and being detailed but never dull.
Highlights for me were the Author's representation of romance through the playfully sarcastic heroine. I thought the writer was exceptionally gifted in showing us numerous examples of the kindness and sensitivity exchanged between Pierce and Tova.
This is the best kind of literature for young adults to be exposed to.
The dialogue in the betrothal ceremony between Tova and Pierce, two warriors who are both strong and protective of each other, was very emotive and highly touching. " I promise to love you in goodtime and bad—completely and forever even after death claims me.” There is a tasteful mixture between friendship and desire throughout the novel between Tova and Pierce. There is no sex between them until they are married, That particular scene, while not anywhere near as explicit as many things I have been exposed to reading, is presented in a manner suitable for a larger demographic of audience.
This story has the potential to be turned into a script for a visual audience. I thought this was an excellent book, 5 Stars.
Defending Pierce, the second installment of Wilder's Iron Mountain Series was another one of heart pumping suspense. Pierce and Tova take their relationship to the next level, which level? You'll have to read to find out. Dani-Jo has fast become my favorite character and I most enjoyed the slow-burn romance growing between herself and Kage. I am looking forward to reading more about them in book 3, fingers crossed. I am a huge animal lover and loved, loved the cool animals and how they were worked into the story. Favorite quote came from Pierce when he was talking to Phil about Tova. "Her life is proof broken things can still be gorgeous." This is so true for many of us and most don't even realize it. I have a feeling the author has projected a lot of her strength into Tova's character, because she writes it as if she knows first hand how to be broken, beautiful and strong. Cheers to you Wilder.
I was so thrilled to ARC read for Havana Wilder again in her second book of the Iron Mountain series and I was not disappointed! The intensity was amped up, the action was huge, and those animals were SO COOL. Easily one of my favourite parts. We also get a bit more into Pierce's and Tova's love story in this sequel, which was so nice and heartwarming to read about. Tova is a strong female character, which I love, but I also love how Pierce just lets her be herself. The whole group of friends is well written, and each has their own unique personality and brings something special to the book. Would recommend to any YA Fantasy lovers!! Well done Havana!!
This book is more focused on the relationship between the main characters, highlighting the romance elements of the story. We get to see how Tova and Pierce faces all the grave dangers in their lives together and how much they have grown, both as a couple and as individuals, since the last time we met them. There's some really well written action oozing with suspense and thrill, every now and then. Fantasy elements are good but I expected more. In short, if book 1 was Action-Fantasy, book 2 is Romance-action. And of course, a touch of dystopic elements are lurking around throughout the plot. Can't wait to read the next one in the series. Well done 👏 @havanawilder
I REALLY enjoyed this one!! It was difficult to put down because I just wanted to know what was coming next! I really appreciated the detail in Tova's recovery. It felt realistic, like I was standing in the room next to Pierce rather than a fade to black or being quickly glossed over. It really invoked the emotions. It was nice to see their relationship grow and have a stronger foundation than instant chemistry. The mutual respect they have for one another is very refreshing and SO romantic! I'm really excited to see what is coming next for Dani Jo and Kage!

This second book of the Iron Mountain series is just as jammed packed full of scenes that will have you hooked. I love the world building and characters. The world building draws you in and makes it where you can picture the world in your mind. Tova and Pierces butting relationship has blossomed throughout the pages. I adore Pierce his love and deep-rooted emotions, but for his undying loyalty to make sure Tova is happy. Tova on the other hand is as stubborn as it comes and will do whatever it takes even if it means her death in the end. Tova is an amazing strong female MC. I can't wait to continue reading this series.
While I enjoyed reading the first book, the continuation of Tova and Pierce’s story was even more enjoyable. Struggling to just love each other and enjoy that love while an evil plot looms over all of their heads, provides a compelling conflict and the reader wants to know what will happen. I thoroughly enjoy the fact that ALL THE FEMALE characters in this book are strong, capable women in their right (and area of expertise) It was refreshing to see them right in the middle of all the action, not needing help from a man, even the female characters I didn’t particularly like.
A brilliant follow up to Protecting Tova. I liked the character development in this book and how we learned more about the senior members of the community.
It was nice to see the relationships expand between Dani Jo and Kage and also the progression between Tova and Pierce.
Emerys was a very intriguing character. Just like her dad, she certainly had some tricks up her sleeve and it was very interesting to see what her powers were and how she used them.
Defending Pierce is book two in the Iron Mountain series. This book starts with action and it doesn’t stop! Tova is hurt - after the attack by the Savages, she needs medical attention stat. She has a long road of recovery in front of her, and they still have to figure out how to stop their attackers. But she will have Pierce by her side. 💕
In book one, Tova and Pierce were in insta-love, so it’s nice to see their affection for each other given more depth. Pierce has to help Tova recover, but he also realizes that he needs her help. In fact, they need everyone’s’ help in order to figure out how to stop the attacks once and for all. 🗡
The cast of friends help give the story more depth and emotional weight as well - showing off their friendships and also how they work together. They each have different strengths and they have to rely on each other to keep each other safe. They’re a tight-knit group and their care for each other is evident. There also is a potential new romance blossoming 👀.
This was a fun and quick read, and I’m curious to see what happens in book two!
✨Thank you to Booksirens and author Havana Wilder for a free copy of the ebook, in exchange for my honest review.✨
I am obsessedddddd with Pierce and Tovas love affair 😍😍 I don't know which one I love move. Protecting Tova or Protecting Pierce. Ugh. The realism after the battle was perfect
The equality in their relationship, I'm JEALOUS 😍
The second book was just as AMAZING as the first! I love all of the action and More of the world building with all of the different animals 😍
I wish that it was longer because I'm obsessed with Pierce 😭
There is love, suspense, passion, and danger. Woven throughout the story. Everything that truly makes a book FANTASTIC!
Picking up where Protecting Tova left off leaving Pierce under the microscope. This books deal with the struggles a person faces when dealing with a traumatic experience. This book has love, suspense, angst and a lot of danger.
Who is trying to harm Tova? Who is trying to year down Pierce? This story will keep you on the edge with non stop action and anxiety over what may or may not happen to some of your favorite characters. Pierce truly loves Tova and will stop at nothing to ensure her safety
Just like the first one, the story reels you in and keeps you captivated. New relationships develop and new characters are introduced. Tova and Pierce are just a match-made in heaven. Tova is one tough cookie and a stubborn one at that. I love how the male characters acknowledge the strength and capabilities of the girls, but they are still protective of them. The romance parts are a bit steamy but not too extreme. I can’t wait for the third book to be released. 😬
This is only the second book I have read by Havana Wilder and I am impressed with her writing. This story picks up where Protecting Tova left off and continues with a new threat. There is a major battle coming and they will need all of the gifts that each of them have. There is death and violence that must be overcome buy that is for the next book I am sure.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Highly recommended. The battles, the struggles, the angst will pull at your heart strings. The relationship grows for Tova and Pierce by leaps and bounds in this book and leaves you Cheering for them the entire way. It also leads into the slow burn relationship between Dani Jo and Kage.
What a wonderful book!!! It fulfilled all the "feels" from laughing to crying. I have even written down two quotes from this book which really spoke to me: **Remove myself from fights that will never be resolved, and **Never try to please people who don't value my worth!! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to the next in this series!
Another fantastic read! Defending Pierce starts up not long after Protecting Tova left off. Certain parts had me on the edge of my seat while others literally had me in tears. Havana did another fantastic job!! I highly recommend this series!! Can’t wait to see where book 3 takes us.
Entertaining. Enticing . Enjoyed reading the book. Though sometimes there were deja vu moments , a little monotonous , but on the whole the plot and characters are beautifully written.

Such an interesting book and such amazing characters. I loved the way the characters built their relationship and the caring way that they were with each other. I loved seeing the respect that they had with each other.
It has been fun following the growing relationship between Tova and Pierce, as well as certain other couples in their peer group, as they tackle issues that threaten the community. Themes of teamwork, friendship, and self-reliance run throughout, creating a positive message. Looking forward to the next book in the series!
Wilder did an excellent job with transitioning book 1 to 2 after the dreaded cliffhanger but thankfully the series is already all out so no wait for what’s next. Tova and Pierces butting relationship has blossomed throughout the pages. I adore Pierce his love and deep rooted emotions, but for his undying loyalty to make sure Tova is happy. Tova on the other hand is as stubborn as it comes and will do whatever it takes even if it means her death in the end.
The world building is vast as is natural for Fantasy realms but it isn’t over bearing that it is leaning on the Epic side.
There are a few fade to black intimate scenes.
High Recommended if you enjoy magical urban fantasy novel who introduced a lot of furry little friends to help with a bit of romance mixed it.
