Gillian Zane is an Amazon bestselling author that specializes in dark genre fiction for adults. Gillian defines herself by the city she was raised in, New Orleans. She’s tried moving away a few times but always comes back. At the age of ten, she decided she would be a writer and has been determined ever since. Between that decision and when she actually finished a book that she believed was good enough to publish, she’s served in the military, worked as a bartender, became a cog in the corporate marketing wheel as a person “that makes things pretty” and has since been laid off too many times to count. She currently writes full-time, but still, continues to “make things pretty” by designing book covers and websites for her fellow authors and bloggers. Gillian lives in New Orleans with her husband, her daughter, and a fat cat named Sushi. A prepper at heart, she also recently added chickens to the mix in her efforts to progress toward self-sufficiency.

The premise and storyline are unique & intriguing. At some points it hit a little too close to home considering the current state of our life & culture during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the divisiveness we are experiencing in society. I’m giving this three stars, because the similarities prove that this book was rushed. There were a lot of grammatical & spelling errors. I had to read some paragraphs more than once to fully comprehend what Gillian was trying to convey. Even though it was written in POV I was often confused as to which character was speaking. The science behind the wind patterns were incorrect. I may be one of a few to pick up on that because I have a bachelors in meteorology, and have working in the field for 20 years. The Mother’s creatures were way too easy to dispatch, and it would’ve been great to get more context on her. I loved the merging of gods, goddesses, religion, and science. Overall I’m defining looking forward to the next book. I am a huge fan of Gillians’ NOLA series, so I know with the right feedback these books will only get better.

Wow!

I adored this new series. I have been a fan of Gillian Zane for a long time. This new series hits a little too close to plausible. Gillian Zane is obviously a NOLA local. Her stories always include bits that are true to New Orleans culture and language.

This tale is enthralling. Miley and Zeek explore a post pandemic reality that I hope remains fiction. Can’t wait for the next book! It’s definitely in my TBR pile.
