there was a world filled with light and laughter and love. But quakes buried the land deep below the sea. Slowly the people adapted to their new world. But a civil war broke out, forcing the king of Pacifica to send his four children far away, each with a guardian and a piece of the royal seal.
Twenty-five years later, it was time for the siblings to be reunited - and reclaim what was lost. Natural beauty Kayla Waterton had always avoided the sea - she'd sensed its secrets...and its danger. But a chance-of-a-lifetime search expedition for a sunken ship could lead to answers about her mysterious past...and passion in the arms of modern-day pirate Captain Ben Mendoza...
I live in the Pacific Northwest with my husband, two daughters, son, dog and too many cats! I write "sweeter" contemporary romance novels for Harlequin and Tule Publishing.
This is the second book in the tales of the sea quartet. It follows Kayla a maritime explorer/scientist on her quest to find a sunken pirate ship - The Isabella. She falls in love with the grouchy scavenger ship captain Ben Mendoza who only seems to have room in his heart for his three year old daughter Madison. If Ben doesn't believe in magic of the everyday variety how's he going to fair with Kayla's discovery that the reason she has an uncanny knack of of finding shipwrecks is because she's really a mermaid....
This is a perfectly respectable romance novel featuring a mermaid heroine with a proper fish tail and its a definite improvement on the first book charting her twin sister Phoebe's romance. Again we still have the somewhat preposterous notion that the heroine doesn't know she's a mermaid but I thought it worked slightly better here and I did like the 1st transformation scene in the swimming pool Ben's made for his daughter. There's no sex at all, but the romance is convincing enough and more family oriented.
Not the best mermaid romance in the field but enjoyable enough.
