Ross Lake was a small and quiet town, the kind where everyone knows each other. When Sara Jensen, a twenty-two-year-old graduate of the police academy, took a position with the Ross Lake Police Department, she never expected to see any action. Then one day, a couple of hikers come across a woman's body in the woods. Sara and her veteran partner, Harold Dunn, are thrown into a world of secrets and horror as they investigate her murder. Dunn and Jensen aren't the only ones who want a confession, though. A malevolent spirit is also seeking revenge and clings to the world of the living through the people it knew in life, but the police can't prosecute the dead, so Dunn and Jensen must stop the spirit to save their suspect.

I started it this morning thinking I would listen for a bit and then pick it up whenever I had time. Well, I MADE time to finish this! I'm already done and I have to say, it was great! The story is great, the possession is creepy in a good way, and the author did a wonderful job at describing the scenes, and their set up for the twist was fantastic. The narrator was great, he did a good job at pulling me in and not distracting me from the story often. He was great at multiple voices too, which was very fun to hear.
I was surprised by the direction of the story, and I like the way that it ended with the nurse. This is definitely a memorable story and I'm glad I made time to listen!!

I read this book as an audiobook via Audible. It was narrated by Ryan Quale.
I was looking forward to a cute little whodunnit thriller and was not expecting this ride.
These characters become a part of you and you will never get them out of your soul. It was certainly entrenched in our own world and the research into how the world of Columbia works showed through.
The style of the writing begs the author to return to thriller and horror! The heart palpitations are certainly real!
I also did not expect half of the plot twists! CL "Chey" Carner is the 3rd recipient of the #CurseOfChap18 !!
I could not stop listening. I could not stop pressing play. Every move the cops made were what I would do in their shoes except one: I would have ran away!
I enjoyed the heck out of this book. For those that read book prompts or challenges, this was started in NaNoWriMo.
I found ‘My Fair Verona’ to be an action packed, gripping, hypnotic, page turner of a read. It definitely kept me guessing and had me on the edge of my seat. It is a wonderful supernatural thriller that fans will enjoy diving into. I love supernatural/paranormal books, or books about paranormal investigations and demonic possessions on a whole, so altogether I am impressed by this book's plot and storyline.
Our protagonists, officer Sara Jensen and officer Harold Dunn, are entrusted by the Ross Lake Police Department to investigate a shocking murder. The victim is none other than Verona herself. Suspicion falls on everyone associated with Verona...like her husband, her sister, her father, and her lover. But amidst the growing suspicions and accusations, the real killer's identity remains unknown. Get your copy of this riveting novel to find out if Verona's ghost is finally able to rest in peace, or if her real killer is eventually apprehended.
While reading this book, I came to the conclusion that Chey Carner must have done thorough research on paranormal activities; like soul possession and exorcisms. The material seems very realistic, even for a novel--but don't worry, it's not overly grotesque or extremely morbid. The character development and storyline are well-executed. I only wish the novel could have been a little longer--that would have facilitated the development of specific characters even more--like Henry, Madeline, Milan and Stacy.
If you like novels written by Stephen King and Agatha Christie, or even TV series like 'The X-Files' and 'The Exorcist', then naturally you'll fall deeply in love with this novel too. Overall, this book is a roller-coaster of mystery and paranormal events. Chey Carner does an excellent job in keeping my interest. Few writers can blend mystery and the supernatural as well as this author can, and she does it effortlessly. I give this amazing read 4 stars. Be sure to secure your own copy when you can, especially if you're a paranormal thriller fan.
''My Fair Verona'' is a fantastic supernatural thriller to read/ start the New Year with a bang. It's the perfect whodunnit novel to sink your mind into this January, especially if you're a fan of paranormal, suspense thrillers. The story introduces us to officers Sara Jensen and her partner, Harold Dunn. They have been tasked with investigating the murder of Verona Sheffield. Her husband,, Adam Sheffield, seems like the obvious suspect in her death. After all...the spouse is always the one who commits the act....right? To make matters worse, Adam and Verona have their fair share of marital problems...but does this constitute as a legitimate motive for murder? With an angry spirit on the loose, officers Jensen and Dunn race to solve this mystery....before it's too late and it costs yet another person their life.
Honestly speaking,, ''My Fair Verona'' is one of the best thrillers I've read in a while! I think the paranormal theme really wins me over. The paranormal aspects truly add a flare of action, suspense and drama to the novel, which in turn develops the storyline even further. This is why I rate the book 5 stars. The various twists and turns within the novel kept me guessing throughout the entire story. I love the fact that the big reveal gradually starts coming together, as Jensen and Dunn slowly begin to expose everything. Even the subtle shocker at the end of the novel is definitely not one that I anticipated, but I liked it nonetheless. The supernatural twists are well thought out and not overly done. I appreciate this style of writing, especially in suspense thrillers. I recommend this enthralling novel to readers who love a good whodunnit story. You'll genuinely be impressed !!
The setting is a little, tranquil town called Ross Lake, where a jarring murder has been committed and the killer is still at large. But this isn't your ordinary murder mystery! No, not when angry spirits are involved! In essence, ''My Fair Verona'' is an intriguing story about a woman whose body has been discovered in a shallow grave. Her husband, Adam, is beyond shocked and confused. ''Who killed Verona Sheffield ?''...is the burning question on everyone's mind. Officer Sara Jensen is partnered with veteran officer, Harold Dunn. Like two bloodhounds tracking their prey, Dunn and Sara are 100% committed to solving Verona's murder. You'll have to get your own copy though, to find out the outcome of this spell-binding tale. If you love paranormal thrillers about poltergeists, demonic possessions, and exorcisms, then chances are you'll love this novel too.
The reason I deduct a star from the book’s rating is because the pacing oscillates within the final chapters. Also, I'm a little disappointed that Verona's killer effortlessly comes forward and confesses near the end. It's a little anti-climatic. Nonetheless, this book has many curveballs that keeps the reader's attention glued to the storyline. Overall, this is a compelling and fascinating paranormal thriller with fabulous, well-fleshed out characters. Dunn and Sara make an amazing team. If I were an amateur sleuth, I would definitely want Dunn watching my back. I honestly wouldn't mind reading a follow-up novel, starring these two characters once more. Fans of suspense thrillers, with a paranormal twist, will love this spectacular read. Chey Carner really does an incredible job of bringing her characters to life...even the dead ones (lol). Enjoy.
I found this one utterly odd , Possession of a ghost. Unclear if there was actually any character I overly liked. 2.5 star listen. The narrative was ok I wasn’t bored but it didn’t overly hold my interest either. Not overly long either. Gifted audio.
