I finished reading Smyth's other series, Pacific Prep, just yesterday and immediately started with her debut novel, the first book of the Crescentwood trilogy. I have to say, what a huge difference in quality, style and editing - basically everything. Where Pacific Prep delivers (great story, plot twists, loveable characters, secrets and intrigues, you can't put it down), Three Divisions lacks. It's kind of disappointing to see a very interesting premise being overshadowed by bland, shallow characters, insta-love, cliches, absurd situations and plot holes.
Sophie has potential as a character, but I just couldn't connect with her. There's also nothing that stands out about her, except for the fact that she grew up in poverty and struggled dealing with her mother's illness.
Barett and Preston don't strike me as "kings of the school", they're boring, the reasoning behind their "bullying" (which is actually the wrong term, since there's not much bullying in this bully-romance) is stupid and childish.
Aiden and Tyler have potential, but they're far from it.
Sophie's dad is basically the epitome of evil, which I find exaggerating.
Overall, it was a fast read, I really like the idea but the execution could've been better. Having a RH with guys that aren't from the same friends group is also something I found refreshing.
I'm aware this was author's debut, so I don't want to be too critical - Pacific Prep showed me how amazing her writing skills can be after some refining. I may not continue Crescentwood series (maybe I will, though, just because I hate not finishing what I started), but I am looking forward to any other works by R.A: Smyth.
