Leah Williams is back in the quaint town of Heritage, Michigan, and ready to try again to make her business a success. But blank slates are hard to come by, and a piece of her past is waiting for her there. Heir to the Heritage Fruits company, Jonathan Kensington is the guy who not only made Leah's past difficult, he also seems determined to complicate her present as well.
Jon is trying to prove to the Heritage Fruits board that he, not his manipulative uncle, should be running the business. The board insists Jon find a new owner for the building that will house Leah's business. To avoid forcing a buyout of Leah's part of the building, Jon strikes a compromise with Leah, and the two go into business together. With her vision and his know-how, it might work. And Leah might realize he's loved her since high school. If only he didn't keep on shooting himself in the foot by boxing her out of important decisions.
Sparks fly in this romantic story of two people who must learn to trust both each other and the one who called them to this journey.
I have been writing fiction for more than twelve years. It has been an exciting journey for this math-loving-dyslexic girl. I had read less than a handful of novels by the time I graduated from college and I thought I would end up in the field of science or math. But God had other plans and I wouldn't trade this journey for anything. As someone told me once, God's plans may not be easy, and they may not always make sense but they are never boring.
In addition to my writing, I also work for My Book Therapy as a special project project manager and write for LearnHowToWriteAnNovel.com and you can find me blogging over there on occasion.
When I am not writing or working, I spend time with my amazing husband. We have been married for fifteen wonderful years and have three sweet children. In my free time, I love coffee, rock hounding with my husband and kids, and distracting myself from housework.
'Everyone eventually gave up on her. It was only a matter of time.'
Tari Faris has now written three full length novels and one novella. Each of her stories only solidifies my opinion that Faris is a wonderful addition to Christian Fiction. One thing that is very important to me (actually, it is of paramount importance), when I read a book, is how easy I can connect with the characters. Faris does this wonderfully well from the first chapter. When this happens, my excitement builds throughout the book. I truly love when this does happen.
This is really two stories: Jon's and Leah's and Madison's and Colby's. Both are absolutely precious and there are four life lessons here, too, as well as a strong spiritual thread. It just ticks all the boxes for me. Well done!
My thanks to the publisher and the author for a copy of this book. I was not pressured to leave a positive review. The opinion here is entirely my own.
Characters: This book followed two couples (Jon + Leah and Colby + Madison). All of them were realistically imperfect people who really had problems getting along. I would’ve liked to have seen a little more of Colby and Madison’s story line as they were interesting people.
Language: Clean.
Moral: Why does my brain always betray me when I get to this section? From what I can remember, there were themes of trust, God’s pursuit of people, and second chances.
Plot: Sometimes, reading contemporary romances is like watching a train barreling toward a cliff. That was definitely this book. I could see the disaster coming and knew everything was going to be ruined for the characters (at least for a little while). Those poor people! But it did keep me turning pages. :)
Romance: Clean. A few kisses.
Writing: Tari Faris has an engaging style that’s easy to read. I’m looking to reading more books by her in the future!
Overall: Since You’ve Been Gone was an entertaining read, and I’d recommend it to those who enjoy Christian fiction and contemporary romance.
Lovely conclusion to the Restoring Heritage Series!
Five young women are at the center of each novel/novella. In Since You've Been Gone, Leah's story is front and center. After her father abandoned his family, Leah has a difficult time trusting and instead chooses to leave a job, project or relationship if things don't go exactly as planned. When serving overseas didn't work out as she wanted, Leah returns to Heritage to re-open the store built by her grandparents.
Jon and teenage sister Abby also return to Heritage after Jon's basketball career in England ends and his sister's behavior is less than ideal. Jon returns to the company he owns, but has let his uncle lead in his absence. Tension abounds between Jon and his uncle with their competing priorities.
It was heartwarming to turn the digital pages as Jon, Leah and Abby grew as characters. The ending was wonderful. And I can't leave out Otis. The reveal wasn't surprising, but the details behind it were. This town ornament was a fabulous inclusion in the series.
A secondary story line for musician Colby and troubled Madison was engaging as the primary thread for Leah and Jon.
My gratitude to publisher Revell for a complimentary NetGalley copy of the novel. I was not required to post a review and all opinions expressed are my own.
This is a wonderful Christian contemporary romance with great characters in a small town setting, and all that you would expect where everyone knows each other. We get to watch the ups and downs of the development of a relationship of two different couples. Jon and Leah have known each other all their life but with a lot of misunderstanding and resentment from high school, especially on Leah's part. Now they are thrown together in a business deal and things can get pretty tense. Colby and Madison meet for the first time. Colby is taking time off from his Christian music career after a bad situation while Madison, a new Christian, is home to close out her dad's estate. All of these people have lessons to learn about overcoming issues that can hinder living life to the fullest...issues dealing with trust, overcoming fears, forgiveness in order to love and have strong faith in being the person who God created. Loved it! Tari Faris has another winner! I received a complimentary ARC from Revell Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. These are my own thoughts and opinions.
A Tari Faris book giving me some mixed feelings??? Y'all!
Tentatively around 3.5-4* (cus i can never decide)
*cues my lovely history with Tari Faris* So I've been a huge fan of Tari Faris' books since her novella, P.S. Goodbye, and I have since then made an inner pledge to read her books now and forevermore. 😁 Her other three books did it for me and made my heart soar high and happy... but Since You've Been Gone didn't really do it for me as the others did.
But first, what I loved!
All right, TF has this fantastic way of being incredibly inspirational through her stories. Like, I always learn something or get something from her books that stay with me after a long while – ones like with P.S. Goodbye or Until I Met You! And the same was with this book.
The message of trust is very evident, talking both about trust between two peeps in a relationship and trust in God. It's a common theme incorporated in Christian Fiction, but here it felt like the author showed it really really well, and outlined in that story was of hers to make it effective... if that makes sense... I loved how clear the message was, and it was both applied to the H&Hs we had here (Jon & Leah, and Colby & Madison). She definitely carries a lot of wisdom into her books!
Then the second thing I liked: the romance! *satisfied sigh* I can always trust Tari Faris to make my heart melt and go all happy. Especially when you have that trope where the guy has been in love with the girl longer than she ever knew... and she doesn't like him back. *insert instant heart-eyes* Guys, the *amount* of times my heart had phyyyscially clenched because of the raw cuteness of Jon's emotions towards Leah! I thought it was adorable, with mayyybe some cliche/cheesy dialogue moments that made me wonder if that would've been something people would say in real life. But eh, *shrugs* I say cliche things all the time in real life, so what can I say? :D
Oh, and not to mention Colby and Madison's story! I enjoyed theirs lesser than Jon and Leah's, but it was still a lovely addition and was pretty endearing!
So, yeah. I always can count on Tari Faris to give me a romance that I love. She puts in loads of tension and the way her dialogue flows, the way she writes them between the H&H – it’s heaven.
Buuut now for what I didn't love: the characters.
Okay, so I really enjoyed the romance, but I had just didn't really like any of these characters much. And that affected how much I enjoyed the book. Leah was too headstrong for my taste, which did get me a little annoyed at her. And Madison was a bit of a meanie a few times (I prefer nicer heroines... consider my biased tender heart). With that said, my not-so-likey-feelings for these girls weren't gradual, either. I didn't like Leah by a few chapters in, and so I nearly just wanted to stop reading (but i told myself i could never do that with this author XD). And for Maddie? I didn't like her from the start because she was a bit of a grump, but she definitely did get better. So for her, I loved her character development most. Her story was pretty inspirational, and her change of heart and thinking did make her a lot more likable!
Then Jon. Yep, he was sweet, usually because of his die-hard love for Leah. And Colby? He was sweet as well, but mainly because of his persistent pursuit of Maddie and seeing the best in her. Other than that, those heroes didn't do it for me, either.
So maybe the problem was that these characters didn't feel super unique, so I could hardly connect with them. I liked how they were crafted, though. They didn't feel like they were just characters. I loved how they were each distinctly unique from each other even though they hadn't caught my heart as I wanted them to. :)
And like her other full-length novels, TF did a great job again in placing four different POVs in the book and making the romance and story flow well. There was good romantic tension (although, yes, we saw a lot of them coming) even though I didn't necessarily care too much about the characters (just on how they would all get together. And they came together satisfyingly!).
And overall? Since You've Been Gone was a lovely read. No matter what, I think I'll go on loving Tari Faris' books just because of their ability to make me laugh, be inspired, and make my heart goes to mush with the cute romance. Her writing style is lovely, and the pacing is just nice to keep me going without feeling any drag. The author's books remind me a lot of Denise Hunter and maybe, like, a contemporary version of Karen Witemeyer (a tad, no?)! And now I cannot wait for more books from her! (*stalks her on her website*)
It's all about prefect timing. I love a sweet romance. And this one has a couple of them that you don't want to miss. I am not sure which one I loved more. Leah and Jon or Colby and Madison. After you read it you will have to let me know. Hurry and read this fun 5 star romance before summer is over. The Mary Reader received this book from the publisher for review. With small town charm and the return of beloved characters, Since You've Been Gone, the third installment of author Tari Faris’ Restoring Heritage series, is sure to delight readers of contemporary romance. Ever since reading the first book in the series, Tari Faris quickly became a favorite contemporary romance author of mine. If you've ever lived in a small town where everyone knows everyone, you will love the town of Heritage, Michigan and its residents. I wish Heritage and was real, so I could move there and be friends with all my favorite characters!
This book focuses on Leah Williams and Jon Kensington’s story, along with Madison Westmore and (newcomer to the series) Colby Marc's secondary storyline. Beloved characters from earlier books continue to play a role in the conclusion to the Restoring Heritage series. Readers could jump in and start with this book, but it is recommended to read the series from the beginning to get to know all the characters who are featured. If you've been wondering about the mysterious Otis the hippo, you must read this book!! All your questions will be answered!
Since You've Been Gone is highly recommended for fans of contemporary romance, especially readers who enjoy novels by authors such as Denise Hunter, Becky Wade, Courtney Walsh, Melissa Tagg, and Susan May Warren. It is bittersweet to say goodbye to this wonderful cast of characters and the town of Heritage, but I can't wait to see what Tari Faris has in store for us next!
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell and was not required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are mine.
I know my rating would have been different if I read the first 2 books first. I am planning on doing so in the next month or so. This book follows 2 couples. Both women had terrible relationship with their fathers and it has effected their relationships with men today. One can't trust the man she has feeling for and the other went to men to men until she got pregnant. Both found men that love and respect them, can they forgive and have true love that both deserve. What I like is both woman have a foundation with Christ and because so start to learn to have faith in Him and learn how to have faith with others. The woman who is pregnant thinks the whole town is against her because of her past but the town soon rallies behind her. I hope this would be real life. If you do have a foundation in Christ loving the least of these are what we are commanded to do. The book show the examples for us. Is it easy, no. Even the pastor of this book had problems with it at first but putting your faith in God the past can become what it should be your past. I am looking forward to reading book 1 and 2. A solid series that I think all should read!!
Welcome back to Heritage, Michigan, one of my favorite fictional places. Small town flavor where some things are not private but where most everyone rallies to support you. Two more couples take center stage. Leah and Jon are coming back to town, Jon to take over the family business and Leah to resurrect the legacy her grandfather left behind. They team up to open a unique store that sells items Made In Michigan, hoping to make Heritage proud. Colby, famous for his Christian music, is in retreat mode after some career trouble. Madison, the redeemed bad girl, is making a fresh start and rehabbing her childhood home. Ms. Faris brings her characters to life with messy choices and complicated situations. But they come through struggles with faith and realistic solutions. There is angst, humor and touching romance. And as always, the mystery of wandering Otis, the huge metal hippo town mascot. “Love is letting someone in and trusting them even though they have the potential to break your heart. “Failure can be a good thing, but you have to learn from it and fail forward. Let the failure push you on to something greater.” Not only is this a story about restoring a town, but it is a story of restoring lives and keeping the heritage of families alive. If you love romance, struggles, spiritual growth and happy endings, you will love this series. *I received a complimentary copy of this book from Revell Reads program. I was not required to give a favorable review. All opinions are my own.*
Then, there are other books, books like Since You've Been Gone, where the lesson just reaches out with each smooth turn of the page with a brush of love from the author's heart to paper and then into a reader's touch. The way she wove such a careful story of redemption, healing from wounds inflicted by those who should be the ones you can always go to, and that each and every person is special was one not easily forgotten.
Tari Faris is an auto need to read, where is my copy, kind of author. She's been that way since I read You Belong with Me when it first came out. The way that the characters come to life, the town becomes a piece of your heart, and you never want to stop reading it makes me wish there was more.
Jon, oh, okay, Jon! He's just so close to stealing Nate's place as my favorite of the guys, but so are Luke, Grant, and Colby, oh, and I can't forget Chet! They are just such sweet guys that I loved reading about. The girls are also so awesome, can I just be Hannah when I grow up? Yeah, and then there's of course Leah. Yikes, it was crazy relating to her about things but not being able to imagine what happened to her and her family in the past. And, sweet Jimmy! I loved finding out what happened with him though I totally called it. Abby is somebody I really want to see more of in the future.
The sibling relationship/guardianship and raising a little sister for Jon and Abby were so bittersweet... I worried there for a bit that there wouldn't be an outcome I liked. Did I like it? More than I can say but you need to find out for yourself if you agree on that ending!
As happy as I am that this series has ended, I am saddened to leave the world of Restoring Heritage and the characters that are now like old friends.
Warnings: 18+ due to romance, past abuse, mentions of drinking/drunks, unwed pregnancy before the book starts and a character knows God, etc. Mentions of attraction, sexy is used, some other focuses on attraction.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
Leah Williams comes back to her hometown ready to resurrect her grandfather's business. Jonathan Kensington wants to help her make the business a success, but he is receiving pressure from all directions, together can they strike a compromise?
Jonathan is a really great guy pulled in a multitude of directions, he is so patient with Leah and her unswerving stubbornness. At times it was hard to like Leah, especially when she was upset with Jonathan who was doing his best to juggle all of his responsibilities and please everyone. Plus, he made some pretty valid points.
Overall, a sweet small town romance, featuring familiar faces from previous books, though my favorite in this book probably had to be Jonathan. A nice addition to the series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I was so excited to read Tari Faris's newest book because she always does such an amazing job. She writes quirky, fun and lovable characters. And her storylines are always top notch.
Since You've Been Gone is a story of two couples; four individuals struggling with their pasts, their faith, and romance. I was only expecting a story about Leah and Jon but Madison and Coby's story was just as lovely. I love when authors write in difficult tropes such as pregnancy, abuse and substance abuse.
Leah and Jon have a difficult past together. As in where one person thinks the other is bullying them but the person's words are actually just coming out all twisted... Yeah, Sounds like a slippery slope. But I loved seeing how they overcame these issues. Yes, they let them get in the way a lot of times, but in the end they learned how to forgive and trust.
And their love story gave me all the butterflies. My favorite part of this book, of the whole series really is that the books aren't just romance. They are friendships. They are relationships with God. They are advice and inspiration. I love a book that gives a lesson.
I loved Madison's storyline. She's a girl who's been misunderstood her entire life. She was treated unfairly. And in turn it made her treat other's unfairly. But I loved her redemption story so much. She struggles with self worth. And when you're told your whole life you're not good enough you start to believe it. But I loved watching her love and be loved. Her realization that she is good enough, that she is worthy and wanted by a good Father was just heartwarming. And getting to see how Coby comes in to her life and remind her of all those things was incredible.
I love the whole storyline about Leah and Jon re-opening Leah's grandparents' business. Because nothing says disaster like a man scorned and an angry woman going in to business together. Their arguments were oftentimes amusing and heartbreaking. Seriously, how can two people have so much miscommunication? I was just glad they always kiss and make up!
I recommend this book for anyone looking to fall in love with a small town full of quirky characters, a good Jesus story and a guaranteed happily ever after.
**I was given a free copy of this book by the publisher. I was in no way required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions expressed are completely my own.**
What a great story! There are two couples in this book who make their way through the difficulties that stand in their paths toward happily-ever-after and their journeys are worth the read.
The primary characters, Jon and Leah, have a complicated history of miscommunications all through high school. It was eye opening to read as they recounted events that occurred and Jon had clearly meant one thing and Leah interpreted it as another. Leah had huge trust issues. Honestly some of the biggest trust issues that I have ever read about in a book. But her journey with Jon was compelling and my heart ached for him at various times in the novel.
The secondary story, Madison and Colby, was so sweet. I loved the heart that Colby had for Madison and her unborn child. The working friendship that developed between them soon began to move toward attraction and love, but Madison carried a lot of hurt from her past. Colby was just the man for her, but they had some hurdles to overcome first.
Since You’ve Been Gone is book three in the Restoring Heritage series. I think this book can be enjoyed if you haven’t read the other stories, but you will appreciate the appearances by many other characters from earlier books and the setting even more if you have read the earlier stories. I have read the full length novels from this series but have not yet read the novellas connected to it.
(4.5 stars)
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.
Since You've Been Gone by Tari Faris is the third book in the Restoring Heritage series. However, I will share up front that this is the first book that I have read in the series. . .and now I want to read them all!
I know I may have missed a few things because I haven't read the first two books, but Since You've Been Gone was still an enjoyable read for me. I really liked the main characters. Leah Williams is ready to try again to run a successful business. Jonathon Kensington is back in town with his sister Abbey. He is wearing the hats of business owner and guardian to his sister after his parents passed away. Colby Marc is taking a break from his music career. Madison Westmore is in town to remodel and sell the house that her dad owned until he recently passed away.
I enjoyed getting to know each of these characters and the secondary characters in Since You've Been Gone. The plot was interesting although I expected the happy ending that I got. Sometimes you just need a "happy ending" book to relax with. I also liked that the faith the characters had was real in this book. The characters had problems and they had to learn to overcome them too. For the most part, this book seemed fairly true to life. I would recommend Since You've Been Gone to anyone enjoying contemporary reads. For those who read the first two books in this series, I am sure this next novel couldn't come soon enough.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own.
#BookReview: SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE by Tari Faris 5 stars
“Right now her head and her heart wanted very different things, and she didn’t know which one to listen to.”
It’s been awhile and I am glad to be back in Heritage. It’s fun to read about the people I have met in the previous books in the series. For the most part, I think you can read this as a standalone but I suggest you read the other books too. This is the best one for me. It hit the right spots at the right time.
Similar to her other books, there are two couples involved. I’d say Leah and Jon are the main leads and then we have Madison and Colby’s story. I have met Leah before with her sister, Caroline. Leah is back from Costa Rica. Jon is also in Heritage to take over his dad’s company. He doesn’t have enough experience but he knows he wants to keep his family’s heritage. Jon is consistent with his feelings for Leah. But they are nemesis because Leah misunderstood Jon’s actions for something negative. This one made me think how many times we have done this during our lifetime too. This can be applied in other situations in our lives. Something might be good but because our minds are clouded with pessimistic thoughts, we are not able to enjoy it.
When things don't go her way, Leah moves on to something new. It sounds familiar, doesn’t it? We tend to do that unknowingly sometimes. My point here is the book is full of lines that can be applied to our lives. To pause, ponder upon and pray about. Extending grace and forgiveness are themes of this book as well.
I have enjoyed the love story of the two couples. Different stories but relatable. This book is full of supportive friends too. I like how Madison calls Leah’s group of friends as the Conjoined Five. I have cried and laughed with all of them. Heritage is a small town that brings people together to cherish and love forever.
Thank you @Revell and #netgalley for the complimentary copy. All opinions expressed are my own.
It's like returning to a familiar place, where friendships remain strong and true, and a big metal hippo named Otis unexplainable moves around town!
I loved coming back to Heritage and into the last story of the series with Leah and Jon but it was the bonus story with Colby and Madison (who I absolutely adored!) that gave me all the feels. Ms. Faris knows how to ramp up the romantic tension and it kept me checked out of real life and into the lives of Jon and Leah and the miscommunication near-misses that had me on an emotional roller coaster. I think Colby and Madison's story was a sweet interlude that let my emotions settle. I'd say that readers will definitely want to these in order as there are a lot of characters from previous books who show up in this one and it can get a bit confusing but overall it was a sweet wrap up to a series that makes me wish was real so I could visit Heritage and all of my friends. Oh, and snap a selfie with Otis!!
**I received a copy of this book from the publisher. I was not required to give a positive review and all opinions expressed are my own.**
I'm giving this 4 stars because of the life lessons the characters have.
I have read this author before. I think I read the first book in the series but I may have skipped the second book. If that's the case, I'd forgotten much about the town--and Otis the traveling hippo seems like he'd be hard to forget!
The beginning of the book bothered me. I'd just get into a rhythm of reading about a character and learning to care about him or her and then another, seemingly random character would get dropped into the storyline, and I'd feel like I had to start all over again.
Since I received this as an ARC through LibraryThing's Early Reviewers program, I don't know if the back cover blurb will read the same as the one on my copy, which only mentions Leah and Jon. Since it only mentioned Leah and Jon, that's where I expected the book's focus to be. Instead, we also get Madison and Colby--and a whole slew of other, supporting characters some of whom I could keep straight and others who I fought to remember who they were and how they related to the other characters in the novel.
Life Lessons: Trusting God to use your talents in the way He wants them to be used (even if the "business aspect" f your profession says something different should happen)
Using failures to propel yourself forward instead of allowing them to drag you down.
Trusting God to use what we see as failures to further His purposes for your life.
Letting go when it's time/Giving up control.
Not being afraid to stand up for what you know is right or what you know God wants.
Being 100% committed. Not going into things with an escape hatch open, expecting to have to bolt through it at the first sign of a problem. (Yes, there are times when you do have to get out of a situation for legitimate reasons, but things like relationships and businesses take dedication and you have to work through some bumps and problems and not just flee at the first sign that things won't be "perfect".)
Faris has done it again! She has succeeded in writing another contemporary romantic comedy that swept me off my feet from the first page. Since You've Been Gone is full of cute couples romance that will make you swoon. It has faith content and strong themes woven in to make an inspiring story. The characters had so much depth. They were raw and real. I was able to relate to them and was encouraged by their stories. I read my first Tari Faris book, You Belong To Me, when it came out in 2019. I loved Faris's writing style immediately. She mixes real feeling characters, romance, humor, and faith content into a beautifully told novel. She is very talented and I will continue to read everything that I can get my hands on by her. . *I received a ARC copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a honest review. I was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts expressed are strictly my own.*
"But loving someone isn't never failing them. It's you choosing them and them choosing you day in and day out, even when the failures happen."
I love this small town of Heritage, MI and I am so glad that I got the chance to go back. Tari Faris once again brings the readers into the tight-knit circle of Heritage, where gossip blooms like wildflowers but also where love, acceptance, and mercy flow like a wild river. I enjoyed catching up with the myriad of characters from the previous books in the series and loved getting to know Leah/Jon and Madison/Colby as individuals and couples. With easy-to-read writing style and characters that pull at your heartstrings, this book will captivate you and help you fall in love with Heritage a little more.
I really loved Colby and his faithful steadfastness and relentless unconditional commitment to Madison. His living out his faith softens the edges of Madison who's had a tough life with disappointments, hurts, and pain. Jon has so many seesawing emotions to battle - from hot and cold reception of his long-time crush Leah to struggling for his rightful place in his father's company to working for peace and solidarity with his teenage sister - but his optimism and thoughtful care of Leah makes him a great hero. There are tried and true life and faith lessons embedded into each character's faults and triumphs - lessons about facing fears and failures head-on, receiving and extending mercy and grace, inviting others to share the journey, allowing God to lead and love. And, of course, there is Otis....
If you enjoy contemporary romance with heart and substance, you will absolutely love this book. I received the book from publisher and was under no obligation to post a positive comment. All opinions are solely my own.
One of the things I love about the Restoring Heritage series is it feels like each book gives you two sweet romance stories for the price of one. Though this book focuses on the storyline of Leah and Jon, two characters who knew each other from high school and are now partnering together to get Leah’s former business store up and running again, I equally enjoyed the storyline about Madison and Colby, two wounded characters meeting for the first time. Tari Faris knows how to craft satisfying romances filled with inspirational messages about redemption and hope without ever sounding preachy or cheesy. If you liked the first two books in this series, I have no doubt you will love this book.
This is the third novel in the Restoring Heritage series. I’ve enjoyed being part of this small-town community’s restoration. This is a quaint beautiful community with a cast of interesting, fun, flawed, cast of quirky characters I liked hanging around. I enjoyed seeing them learn, heal, and grow along with and through their beautiful community projects.
Leah Williams has made her way back home in hopes of reviving the families WIFI business. She has many obstacles to overcome, the first is to face Jonathan Kensington, whose family owns part of her business. Problem, Leah can’t seem to forget how he treated her in High School. Yes, people change but not that much, right?
Jon Kensington has responsibilities he never thought he would have, but when his father passed away, it changed everything. He was responsible for the care of his younger sister and has him step into running the Heritage Fruits company. He was doing ok until Leah Williams came into town. Furthermore, he thought he was over her, but when they talked the old feelings started to surface. Why didn’t she like him? He always liked her. Unexpected sparks start to fly between Leah and Jon. They both have changed since high school. They soon realize they both must step out on faith and do the right thing, no matter what.
I adored the secondary story of Colby Marc whose friends with the pastor in Heritage and stays with him a while to clear his head. It’s there he meets Madison Westmore, who’s come back to Heritage to fix up her family’s home and sell it. Madison wants to shake the memories of this home and start fresh again. Besides once this small town finds out her secret, they won’t have anything to do with her. It wasn’t like she was nice to any of them in high school. She had changed, but no one would give her a chance to show them. She had been up front with Colby in hopes it would send him running.
I love how this author whisks readers on an adventure in Heritage, Michigan as the town and its people continue to change and grow. I love how the author crafts her stories to naturally include a spiritual thread that shows hope for the hopeless and giving people and themselves second chances. The author makes you feel part of the journey and made me want to go and visit Heritage. This would make for a fun read, but also one that would work well for your book club pick.

Looking for a sweet, Hallmark-style romance? Then look no further than this series. While this is the third in the series, I am now intrigued and will have to go back and read the first two books. This book totally stands on its own, you would just learn more about some of the other characters that play a minor role.
We meet two couples in this book (or soon to be coupled) Jon and Leah and Colby and Madison. All but Colby grew up in this area and knew each other in school. That doesn't mean that they liked each other, you know how petty high school can get. But that is the great thing about time, we all mature and that includes these characters. They also become better versions of themselves due to more life experience and the realization that maybe life isn't so bad as they remember it from years gone by.
I loved the wit, sarcasm, and friendships that emerged from this story. Leah is one tough nut to crack and is very determined (perhaps rigid) when it comes to revitalizing the WiFi shop her grandparents owned. She has a great idea but being stuck in the past is not the way to move forward and create a successful venture. Jon only wants to help, but sometimes his pride, or maybe it is his love for Leah, gets in the way. Not that he doesn't have a lot on his own plate including a sister that is acting out after the loss of their parents, and an Uncle that might be undermining the business he inherited from his father. He definitely has a lot of plates up in the air and it would only take one to bring them all down. However, that is where friends come in and help balance the load.
Madison was a troubled youth and while she is back in town to clean up her father's estate, she is ready to leave at the first opportunity. That is until she meets Colby, a disgraced singer looking for refuge in Heritage for the time being. Madison is a prime example of someone that has changed and needs understanding and guidance so that she can realize that maybe if she opens herself up to others that she might find acceptance.
There is even a little bit of a mystery with Otis the hippo statue that moves and then disappears. I loved the story that emerged from the history of that statue and how and why it disappeared. It definitely kept the town guessing.
I enjoyed all of the characters and the interactions that expanded the story and brought dimension and depth. There is an underlying theme that faith will make all things possible if you only trust in a higher power. The story flows well between the two interconnected love stories and those that surround them. This is a perfect book for those that are looking for a book that is sweet, Christian, and romantic.
Heritage, Michigan has become real to me since I started reading the prequel to the series. There's just something about the town and its people that draws me in. One thing I liked about this book was seeing characters from the past and getting a little peek into how they're doing now. As for the two main characters in this book, sparks fly yet Leah and other outside forces prevent the connection from happening. It was nice to see Leah grow and deal with her past so that she could fully embrace her future. The grand gesture at the end is sweet and the perfect one for the two. There's also a great subplot with two other characters that kept me intrigue as well. *I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. My review was not required nor influenced.
You know that feeling you get when something you really, really love finally comes to an end? That bittersweet satisfaction? That wish for more but the sigh that comes as you turn the last page?
Yeah. That's how you'll feel after reading Since You've Been Gone by Tari Faris. Hearts will be broken, and then mended better than before. Secrets will be revealed and tears will flow. Old fictional friends will return, and some will surprise you.
And one of the greatest mysteries of the series will be solved. But you'll still wish you could live in Heritage!
My thanks to the publisher for an advance copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I must admit I cried when I turned last page of Since You’ve Been Gone. This is the third book in the Restoring Heritage series by Tari Faris. Amazing! Definite page turner! How often do we think less of ourselves like Madison or Leah? How often do we think we are not worthy? But with God all things are possible. The story of Jon and Leah are lessons for all of us, to show that yes, a relationship is worth having and that God knows us better than we know ourselves. Colby and Madison, another wonderful couple who we watch God work through their lives as well. I highly recommend reading the first two books of the series. I received a copy of the book in exchange for my honest opinion. All opinions are my own.
I highly recommend this book! If you haven’t already, be sure to read first the prequel novella to the series (P.S. Goodbye), and the first two books (You Belong With Me and Until I Met You). These will give you a thorough introduction to the town of Heritage, Otis, and most of the characters you’ll meet in this new book.
Faris’ characters are “real people,” dealing with grief and past mistakes, honoring heritage businesses passed down by loved ones, and relationships. What is love? What is trust? How to I avoid forgetting the loved ones who have passed away? Also, am I really hearing what the other person is saying, or have I interpreted it the wrong way?
I had a hard time putting the book down, especially towards the end. There are plenty of unexpected plot twists that often left me in shock for a few pages. Since this is the end of the series, I thought Faris did a good job wrapping things up.
I received an Advance Reader Copy (ARC) of this book with no obligation to post a review
This was the BEST story! As much as I have loved the whole Restoring Heritage series, this one is definitely my favorite of the set. From Leah and Jon's story to the surprise story of Madison and Colby, this story was ah-mazing! I read it in one evening because I could not put it down. The dual relationships were really well written and I loved both of them. So so good. A beautiful story of God's redeeming grace and overcoming tragedy and fears. I loved this book!
I received this book as a member of the launch team and was not required to post a positive review. All thoughts are my own.
Return to Heritage and find out all about how Otis the brass hippo came to Heritage! Leah Williams had great ideas but she was stuck in the past and hadn't found her own niche! I loved how Jonathan Kensington was still attracted to Leah years after they graduated from high school but I got aggravated with them because they sure didn't know how to communicate! I admired Jon when he finally stood up to his uncle! Trust was hard for Leah, Jon and Madison. You can read Since You've Been Gone as a stand alone but you will miss out on a lot so it's best to read the full series. I recommend this contemporary book to others. I received a complimentary advanced readers copy from the author and Revell. This is my honest opinion.
Wow! What a phenomenal conclusion to the Restoring Heritage series! Tari Faris became a favorite author of mine back when her debut novella, P.S.Goodbye released. I've read and loved each and every one of her books to date, and I was eagerly anticipating Since You've Been Gone, it grabbed me at page one and held me spellbound until I turned the final page! Reading this story was such a treat, I absolutely loved everything about this utterly delightful book! I love that each of this author's novels features not one but two love stories (double the romance, double the faith journeys, and double the kissing scenes? Yes, please!) I loved Jon and Leah, they were great together, their relationship felt very realistic and true to life, and it was a joy to watch them overcome old hurts and find love! As much as I loved Jon and Leah, I think I might have loved the secondary characters and their love story the tiniest bit more, their story was so beautiful it nearly brought tears to my eyes!
The heart touching, and soul stirring faith messages in this book are incredibly moving, and beautifully written! Tari's books are perfect to read and re-read anytime you find yourself needing a reminder of the Truth!
And, of course I would be remiss if I did not mention Otis, everyone's favorite brass hippo. I so loved learning his history as well as the answer to the mystery of how he moves, but no spoilers here, you'll have to read the book to find out for yourself!
Reading this book gave me all the feels, it made me so happy, but also a little sad to have to say goodbye to this town I've fallen in love with, and these characters who feel like friends to me. I loved every minute of this book, especially the ending scenes which left me happy-sighing with a giant grin on my face!
I loved, loved, loved Since You've Been Gone and most highly recommend it! If you haven't started the Restoring Heritage series yet what have you been doing with your life? This series is a must read for fans of Christian contemporary romance! I cannot wait to read this author's next book, and I'm hoping she will one day write a story about Jon's sister, Abby, I'd love to see that girl get a happily ever after!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher as a member of the author's launch team. My review was not influenced in any way. All thoughts and opinions are one hundred percent my own.
SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE is an enchanting two for the price of one contemporary romance straight out of the Hallmark playbook. (Which I am ALL for. I may have watched 3 Hallmark movies today!)
Our first couple is Jon and Leah. The romance between these two characters is a great example of the one of my favorite romance tropes, Enemies to Lovers. The sparks fly off the page right away between Jon and Leah. Turns out, Jon and Leah went to high school together, but never really got along all that well due to some miscommunications. Now Leah needs Jon's help to save her family store. Here's a great quote showing off the sparks! "Do I know you?" (Leah) Maybe it was a little immature, but she was in no mood for a reunion. She glanced at the departures board as another flight's status flipped to canceled. Jon nudged her shoulder with his. "I know you know who I am, Leah." Sigh. Ms. Faris had me at Jon's sarcasm!
The second couple in this novel is Madison and Colby. These two are the Insta-love couple in the novel. I'm always skeptical of people who fall in love in a matter of days. Do the characters even know each other? But what brings together this couple is Madison needs help to fix up her late father's house for sale. And Colby needs some 'normal' after he's singing career hit rock bottom.
The writing in SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE is wonderful. The plot is nicely paced throughout. Each of the main four characters are narrators in the novel. I was emotionally attached to the novel and the town of Heritage right away. The characters are well-developed and engaging. I genuinely appreciated the growth shown by all four characters by the end of the novel. What really stood out to me while reading this novel were the life lessons that the characters learn, and in turn, that I could really take to heart. Here are two of the lessons: "Everything you choose to love comes with the risk of heartbreak" "Failure can be a good thing, but you have to learn from it and fall forward. Let the failure push you on to something greater." From me, Lesson #1 can apply to not only romance, but to friendship as well. Yes, putting yourself out there comes with a risk. But also comes with the possibility of a great reward. And, like Leah, I really should put myself out there more and trust others. I love the idea behind Lesson #2, learning from failure and the visual of falling forward. Both lessons are very positive and powerful.
SINCE YOU'VE BEEN GONE is the third novel in the Restoring Heritage series. It can be read as a stand-alone; I haven't read the other two novels and thoroughly enjoyed this one. I will likely read the other novels for a better introduction to the town of Heritage. I enjoyed the brief introductions to the other characters in the town of Heritage, especially Otis the hippo. That is a magical story I don't want to spoil for you!
Overall, much like the Grinch, my heart grew two sizes after reading this novel and I highly recommend it if you, like me, enjoy a happily ever after romance! I'm rating this a strong 4.5 Stars!
