1/25/23 ~ The story & character I like. Geeger is getting so frustrated that he can't seem to help his best friend. A heart-warming resolution. I appreciate the explicit look at emotions & Geeger is the perfect character to explore/explain this.
I'm not a fan of Aladdin's Quix line/format for Junior Fiction (transitional chapter books). Having bolded words in a fiction story just makes this feel more like "school reading" rather than "read for fun/read for me" reading.

Fun, funny series & I love the idea that we can all have off/blah days and that's okay!

Geeger the robot spends the day trying to cheer up his best friend Tillie. This is definitely one of those I'll have to try out on the kids.

A fun story, with a great message about how to be there for a friend who's having a hard day.

One of the Quix beginner chapter series. Geeger is a robot who attends school and likes to eat old moldy food, which he turns into electricity. When his best friend is sad, he tries to cheer her up, and learns a little bit more about human emotions.
This was the third in the series, but some background is given so readers aren’t lost (probably some “spoilers” though). Nice big font, but fewer pictures than I’m used to seeing in a starter chapter book. Glossary and comprehension questions at the end. Each word in the glossary is bolded, but text is also bolded when names appear for the first time, and in exclamations, AND in some of Geeger’s sound effects and dialogue which muddies it up. Also Geeger’s dialogue is written in robot cadences so “any circuits” is “ENN-eee SER-cuts” and I think that could make reading harder (or maybe the phonetic spelling would be helpful?).
I do love the ending, where Geeger learns that sometimes just sitting with a friend is what they really need. Good SEL lesson.

Another delightful day with Geeger and his classmates as Geeger learns more about how to be a good friend. Filled with humor and heart and new vocabulary (and glossary) and reader connection questions, this book is highly recommended for early chapter readers.

When Tillie isn't happy and not even robot butt jokes can cheer her up, Geeger resorts to drastic measures. When those fail too, Geeger learns an important lesson: that feelings don't need to be fixed. Sometimes, our friends just need us to be there.
