Mycroft visits Sherlock to discuss the matter of the missing Bruce Partington Submarine Plans. Cadogan West, a clerk at Woolwich Arsenal, was found dead on a Tuesday morning outside the Aldgate Station on the underground system in London. Seven papers were found in his pocket, while three of utmost importance was still missing. Sherlock and Watson were still connecting the links of Cadogan's death to the missing papers when another shocking event took place. Sir James Walter, the actual official ...more

A fun short story featuring Sherlock Holmes and Watson. Watson learns about Mycroft's real job in the British government. He sends them on a murder case to find a spy. It's a fun and quick read. Nice little Sherlock mystery.

In this book, the monotony of thick smog-shrouded London is broken by a sudden visit from Holmes’s brother Mycroft. He has come about some missing, secret submarine plans. Seven of the ten pages — three are still missing — were found with Arthur Cadogan West’s body. He was a young clerk in a government office at Royal Arsenal, Woolwich, whose body was found next to the Underground tracks near the Aldgate tube station, his head crushed. He had little money with him (although there appears to have ...more

A great Sherlock Holmes mystery / spy thriller. A murder, Sherlock putting the pieces together, Watson by his side. Great stuff.

Here was a story with big names thrown at you. Mycroft Holmes, Sherlock's bigger and brainier brother who worked for the government, Sherlock Holmes whose intellect and smartness are well-known, Dr. Watson who is Sherlock's trust ally in the detective work and Detective Lestrade who is lacks in brain but makes up for it in tenacity. Secretive plans for a Bruce Partington is found on a government clerk with 3 pages missing. He has been found on the train tracks and Mycroft wants Sherlock to find ...more

Part of the Sherlock Holmes series of stories and novels.

Sherlock's brother, Mycroft Holmes, needs help with the mysterious death of a government employee who was in possession of important government documents, three essential pages of which are missing.

I've always had a soft spot for Mycroft Holmes, a man more brilliant than his younger brother, but a man who prefered to help direct the British government from his office or his club rather than running about London. In this small tale, we can

"Salah satu karakteristik Sherlock Holmes yg paling luar biasa adalah kekuatannya dlm merefleksikan pikiran pd tindakannya & mengerahkan semua kekuatan pikirannya ut menerangkan sesuatu, walaupun dia tahu bahwa dirinya tidak dpt mendapatkan manfaat lebih jauh pd pekerjaannya itu"

"Look out this window, Watson. See how the figures loom up, are dimly seen, and then blend once more into the cloud-bank. The thief or the murderer could roam London on such a day as the tiger does the jungle, unseen until he pounces, and then evident only to his victim"

Who can resist Sherlock Holmes. A quick read but a good one. The plans of a submarine are stolen and Holmes must find the culprit. Add in a bit of murder and everything gets very interesting. Holmes puts the clues together and of course finds his man. Another Victorian era read done.

The first book I am adding that was read on an e-reader. Not my first e-book certainly!

As noted in the Reading Challenge for 2012 comments, it appears that I am going to be reading more e-books in the near future, thus, a distinct shelf.

Great Holmes story with the usual twists and turns!

This is a fairly unremarkable Holmes story with the exception of the always pleasing appearance of Mycroft Holmes. I'm always struck at how minor his role actually is, for how much he's built up in my mind as a substantial character.

The Adventure of the Bruce-Partington Plans offered a fresh quick read for any Holmes reader. This time the London subways becomes a crime scene web a body is four upon the tracks. The plot was somewhat predictable at times but a good read altogether.

Haha this was a good mystery but I mostly knew the answer because they used this mystery in the new "Sherlock" series on BBC/PBS Masterpiece. Wish that show was back on already!!

Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was born the third of ten siblings on 22 May 1859 in Edinburgh, Scotland. His father, Charles Altamont Doyle, was born in England of Irish descent, and his mother, born Mary Foley, was Irish. They were married in 1855.

Although he is now referred to as "Conan Doyle", the origin of this compound surname (if that is how he meant it to be understood) is uncertain. His baptism re

“The London criminal is certainly a dull fellow. Look out of this window, Watson. See how the figures loom up, are dimly seen, and then blend once more into the cloudbank. The thief or the murderer could roam London on such a day as the tiger does the jungle, unseen until he pounces, and then evident only to his victim.
There have been numerous petty thefts.
This great and sombre stage is set for something more worthy than that. It is fortunate for this community that I am not a criminal.”
