Do you feel being an edge less competent than others? Do you feel your intelligence, achievements and professionalism lags quality and that others are better?

Usually someone who faces such essential doubts, suffers Imposter Syndrome. And trust me when I say, it NEEDS to be addressed!

Marc A. Pitman, has helped many struggling people, deal and overcome disparities of life. Following the same, he coined the book 'In Surprising Gift of Doubt'. Herein, he motivates, coaches and guides the readers to take charge of their potential and lead with increased effectiveness and efficiency.

Do you feel doubtful that when people are looking up to you, you are actually not suited for the work?

Well, the author says otherwise. He asks his readers to compel this dubious scenario, become a strength, rendering away the weaknesses. He uses simple self-management tools like setting goals and organizing them, paying attention to inner nudge or intuition, accepting individuality and realizing the gift of life, etc. His only objective being, helping readers to adapt to a positive, constructive transformation of themselves, for a better self-reflection.

He uses simple language and calm tone to enable readers accept, evolve and apply the said instructions. Through the reading phase, one is assured to explore the inner self and journey to self-discovery. Though the author makes it clear, that the challenges and hurdles in life would continue to exist, however, after reading the book, you are assured of confidence and affirmation to tackle and face those challenges.

Using an empathetic undertone, the author describes incidents of people facing much severe anxiety and yet, overcoming it to become a brighter version of self. These not just help motivate, but also give an idol to those in search, to look up to.

Overall, it is a very different read compared to other business or self-help books, yet, with its strong adamance to change the reader's perspective to life, it sure is a must pick.

"Doubt". What do you think about when you hear this word? Oxford dictionary defined it as "a feeling of uncertainty or lack of conviction." Well now you may be asking, how can a feeling of doubt be beneficial to us? How can we put it in good use if the feeling of doubt itself is a negative emotion in itself? But in this book, Marc Pitman aims to break down that notion and show how we can use uncertainty to help us become a better leader, wherever and whenever you may lead.

Marc shares that our leadership journey includes four different stages or quadrants of a developmental process that you need to go through. First into copy what you see others are going. Secondly, seek out experts in your field. On the third stage, doubt will help you to focus inwards, into yourself, which helps you build the confidence that will help you get to the 4th stage which is becoming the best leader that you can be.

Are you still intrigued with the "doubt" aspect of this book? I think that one word in the title is what drawn me in to read it in the first place because it so contradicts my beliefs in which there is no way that doubt could be a good thing. I've always been taught to avoid doubt in order to succeed. But boy, was I wrong. Marc has proven me wrong in this book, because doubt when utilised correctly, can indeed assist yourself into becoming a better leader and a better person.

A definite must-read for all future successful leaders out there!

"The Surprising Gift of Doubt" is a self-help book written by the author Marc A Pitman. This book will help the readers to shed their doubt so they can become the exceptional leader they are meant to be. Author has talked about listening and trusting our inner nudges. Leadership involves four stages of development and most people make only to the first two stages.

Self-doubt is a part of the leadership journey. Leaders who acknowledge their self-doubt have the courage to go beyond Quadrant 2. Marc has also talked about three parts that make up the hardwiring triad of behavior, abilities, and motivation. "Realizing the benefits of your ability" chapter is really helpful.

In our path of leadership we are not alone. Author who is a leadership coach has guided the readers well in this book. I have mentioned few important points from this book in my journal for quick reference. This book has inspired me to walk on a journey from doubt to confidence. It is an engaging and thought provoking read. If you are looking to become a confident leader then go ahead with this book.

Leadership is a process, not an end goal. In addition to bringing individuals through this process, you can use it to help define the unique role your organization has in the world.
Either new to leadership or an experienced leader, this book will help you discover the leader inside of you by being yourself. If you are new to leadership, this book will set you on the right track. If you are an experienced leader, as in many examples in the book, this book is a manual to solve leadership challenges you might be experiencing. The leader’s journey is composed of four quadrants: the first one is where you observe, see other leaders that you try to emulate and learn from. The second quadrant is experiment, where you start trying new things to improve your leadership skills. The third is where you start analyzing what you have learned and watched people doing until you reach the fourth quadrant, which is a stage of focus, you gain confidence in your style of leading.
This book is full of resources to help you with your journey towards being an authentic leader. Also being a relatively small book, you will get more time to discover the leader inside of you.
Highly recommended!

The Surprising Gift of Doubt by Marc A. Pitman was one of the easier and more insightful leadership books I’ve read recently. The tips in this book have helped me to understand leadership positions better even though I’m not specifically in one myself. I think it’ll be the same for you when you read this book.

There are four quadrants Marc explains in his book. One of the quadrants helps you with tips about looking inwards which helps you overcome your doubts about your abilities to lead. Another helps you to look at both the external and internal factors of leadership. The fact that Marc has also included graphics, one about the DISC system which classifies four types of people, tells me that this book is not messing around. It’s based on real-life and well-researched facts about who we are as people and how we can lead the best way possible.

Should you get The Surprising Gift of Doubt?
I’d say that if you are a leader of any sort, even if it is just a community and not a business, then it’s well worth your time and money to invest in Marc’s book.

You’ll still be able to find useful scientifically proven strategies to better communicate with people around you. No matter who you are.

So if you want a leadership book that actually touches not just on the author’s experiences, but scientific facts about how people interact with each other, The Surprising Gift of Doubt has a lot to offer.

Nearly half (49%) of millennials struggle with imposter syndrome.

What I particularly enjoyed about this book is how the author provides a guide and tools for the reader to to use to overcome the self-doubt that fuels imposter syndrome.

Overall a quick read, the writing is clear and concise, not overly complicated.

This book is reaffirming to me but includes nothing new; much insight is re-packaged in this book. Pitman challenges us to listen to the Inner Nudge–when most plans or formulas force you to fit into their molds, imposing their structures on you. They fail to build upon who you are, so they fail when your enthusiasm for them wanes or when the fear that you will not succeed diminishes. The secret to growing as a leader is that you have to do some inner work, none of which can be done for you. He divides the leader’s journey into four stages, or quadrants. They are Observe, Experiment, Focus, and Analyze.

You begin in Quadrant 1, where you are full of confidence because you have been promoted to a level of leadership. This is where you ‘observe’ leaders you wish to emulate.
In Quadrant 2, you begin to experiment. When your confidence falls, you find yourself worrying that something about you must be broken. So, you look for ways to fix yourself. With all the available books, blogs, webinars, podcasts, seminars, and courses, you think surely one of those will fix you. But having read the book or taken the course, you notice that it doesn’t quite work the way the reviewers said it would. When you realize that other people’s systems give you only one perspective on leadership but not the complete perspective.
In Quadrant 3, tentatively at first but with increasing awareness, you begin to ‘analyze’ what you have learned from watching people and studying systems. You get in touch with your strengths and your limitations, with your values, and with your own goals. You stop assuming that you are irreparably broken if systems don’t work for you.
That growing confidence leads you to Quadrant 4, a stage of ‘focus’ and quiet confidence. Here, you have learned how to listen to both external suggestions and internal cues. And you are leading in a way that comes from within. You are humbly confident in your ability and free to lead with grace and flexibility as well as bring others along the path of the four quadrants.

Pitman talks about “accepting your gifts” - Rather than placing limits on you, understanding your hardwiring helps you discover your unique way of interacting with and making sense of the world. Using the DISC model, you can determine whether you’re Active/Task Centered, Active/People Centered, Reserved/People Centered, or Reserved/Task Centered. This doesn’t restrict you to only acting within your ‘model,’ but can help you understand a bit more about your innate abilities and patterns. But, as helpful as it is, behavior-based assessment just scratches the surface of hardwiring. Looking at the other types of hardwiring— abilities and motivations— will help you grow into the leader you’ve wanted to be. As a leader, digging beneath learned skills to uncover your hardwiring— the strengths that come easily to you— gives you a much clearer picture of your unique, natural abilities. These come to you easily, without stress. Learned skills are the ways you learn to compensate for a lack of natural abilities. One helpful result of learning the difference between your natural strengths and your learned skills is that you can transfer the skills, applying them to other areas.

How do you describe your motivation? This book discusses one helpful system is the Enneagram. The Enneagram suggests that human beings are motivated by one of nine stories, or ways of seeing the world. These nine approaches to life are presented as different personality types. According to the Enneagram, personality is developed when, early in childhood, we learn that the world is not entirely safe. So, we adopt personality, a habitual orientation to life that protects us and helps us relate to others. A deep dive into hardwiring, whether through Enneagram assessment or other methods, can be transformative in developing your own leadership style. Knowing how you do things, what things you do easily, and why you do them gives you more command of your choices and actions as well as a much richer understanding of how different people operate. But hardwiring is just one part of the journey you will take from the stuck uncertainty of Quadrant 2 to the rich expiration of Quadrant 3.

Finally, the book emphasizes organizing around your goals - MagnetGoals is a process that involves four steps to more effective goal-setting and goal-reaching.
Step 1: Brainstorm your Top 100 things you wish to accomplish over the next year.
Step 2: Write your History of the Future - This is a description of what life will be like after you’ve accomplished everything on your list. It can be as short as a paragraph or as long as a few pages. This step is designed to propel you toward the life you dream of achieving.
Step 3: Narrow the list to 3-5 MagnetGoals.
Step 4: Get yourself there - create your roadmap and execute.

Theodore Roosevelt had rightly said- Name of the any person is best thing to listen in any language.

He had a great quality of leadership and remembering names of his colleagues to gardener was one the finest quality to being a great leader.

Here, in this book Pitman has so aptly applied the core values of leadership building principles.

Book serves a phenomenal psychological approach that helps in execution of a leadership trait as being a boss/CEO/owner of one's company.

He has made all these concepts so lucid that can help other learners to thrive in their specific niche.

Enneagram personality test is backbone of this book where we can learn lot about how to deal with people or as oneself. It helps in understanding the personality of your companion who is going to work for your company.

Do you know important it is to know the personality of people either they are active or reserved.

I have learnt lot about active person as extrovert who can reflect his thoughts quite in great range and how reserved person can get those same thought in deeper way.

Reading this book is quite is taking an NLP course on leadership though its totally author's great approach to make us understand the very fundamental development of leadership trait.

Organising goals of every day is quite great that can amplify leadership quality in most beneficial way to put up the things in the right order. This is also person-to-person formula.

The four quadrant formula for accessing the best as a leader.

Leadership is a journey that includes four stages of development viz;
👉 Quadrant 1- Involves copying what you see doing others
👉 Q 2- We seek out the experts.
👉 Q 3- To rebuild trust and confidence
👉 Q 4- Here one becomes a focused leader where one belongs to.

I would highly love to recommend this book to all the corporate sector workers and those entrepreneurs who want to run a successful business.

There is a fact about leadership and saying by Donald Miller in "A Million Miles in Thousand Years", the struggle is where the growth is.

Doubt.... Quite familiar word to almost everyone. We treat it like a negative version of ourselves. We let it dominate our mind at some aspects of life. Even sometimes it puts a wall between our effort. Isn't that true?

But here Author Marc A. Pitman simplifies the term to how it can help us to reveal the leadership qualities within us. How it can fuel up our confidence. How that word will help out building the strength within us.
Diamond is created in high temperature and pressure and later it has to face many torture to get its name as DIAMOND.So happens in our life.We have to face some set backs and doubts that makes us a better us in later life.
Dividing the book into four quadrants one can touch every part of his self-building.

Quadrant 1:- you learn which leaders to follow
Quadrant 2 :- Discover which learning style suits your attitude
Quadrant 3 :- Appreciating own uniqueness
Quadrant 4 :- Step to get the title of leadership without losing self confidence

Being a leadership giant for almost 30 years his experience reflects in the book. The language in the book is kept simple and effective that it creates the impression in anyone. Focusing on self development author shares how it can help to a big difference in leadership.

Starting my reading career as a self help reader this book stands after Attitude is Everything by Jeff Keller. This book never let me feel distracted while reading. It all time created a soft invisible bonding with my mind. This book is not only focuses on leadership building it is an awesome read for them who wants to see their better self within them.

Do you know what is imposter syndrome?

Imposter syndrome can be defined as a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist despite evident success. In simple language, it is the overwhelming feeling that you don't deserve your success.

So the 2nd question is have you ever felt that?

If yes then 'In Surprising Gift Of Doubt' by 'Marc A. Pitman' can help you to overcome imposter syndrome. Mr. Pitman is a motivational speaker and a couch of students, adults, leaders to lead their teams with more effectiveness and less stress. When people are looking up to you but in some places, you have doubts that you are not suited for the work. But the author says this doubt is not your weakness it's your strength.

Pitman writes about several self-management tools like:

• listening to the inner nudge
• taking the leadership journey that can be divided into four stages (quadrants)
• accepting your gifts and realizing the benefits of that
• use those stories which enhance your strength
• set your goal and organized them etc.

It is a self-important book which can calm and organize your thoughts, you can write the notes from this book which can help you because it sure did help me. The language is not difficult and the author explains it all very well. I prefer this book to all the leaders and wannabe a leader.

“You second-guess yourself...you stuff that doubt down, trying to project confidence. And trying to ignore the stress that doubt brings – the feeling that maybe you’re not cut out for this leadership position. Maybe the organization be better off without you. You wonder if you should get out now before people realize you’re not cut out for the job. Does this sound familiar? Here is a twist: that’s doubt you’re trying to suppress is a precious gift.”
.
Thank you so much to the tagged publisher for putting this book into my hands! It was the “surprising gift” I didn’t know I needed. They don’t tell you in med school that much if your job as a doctor will be acting as a leader - on your unit, in your clinic, in the operating room. Imposter syndrome is real, and it’s something I’ve definitely struggled with. Recent research aligns with what @marcpitman details in his book - that doubt you are feeling makes you better!
.
I loved his 4 quadrant approach to the stages of leadership, which breaks his concepts down into easily digestible concepts. I also really got a lot out of his real-life client stories and how they were able to tackle their hurdles to achieve their leadership goals.
.
This book was a quick and insightful read that is one I will be looking back to again and again for advice!

The Surprising Gift of Doubt: Use Uncertainty to Become the Exceptional Leader You Are Meant to Be

by Marc A. Pitman

The book justifies its title in a subtle and understood way. The implication isn’t very stark, but it somehow manages to convey the integral theme of the book quite aptly.

The book can be called as a reflection of the dreariness of human doubts and the crudeness of his uncertainty and expectations. Pitman has written a book that puts up ‘life’ in a very humane and sympathetic way that preaches to instill the values of faith and belief. Simplistic and straightforward, this book should be a great read.

This book makes us see new perspectives to how things can be handled by keeping people at the forefront, how leadership can be wonderfully maintained by embracing thoughtful emotions. It lays out the blueprints for better outcomes, and doesn’t become one of those boring, repetitive guidance textbooks.

What makes this particular book special is how oriented to people it is, how it is largely based upon real-life experiences of author who are far from ideal. By reading this book, it can be felt how leadership is incubated within a clear understanding of people’s minds and their emotions. Vividly visual, very pointedly communicated and wanting to bring a change in how people view doubts, it could be a winner of a book.

The Surprising Gift of Doubt by @marcpitman is an easy, quick and engaging read that will help you identify and better your leadership style, as well as other's.

"Leadership is a journey that includes four stages of development, and most people only make it as far as the first two."

➡ Stage 1: Copy what you see others doing
➡ Stage 2: Seek out the experts
➡ Stage 3: "Let your doubt remind you to turn your focus inward. You start listening to some of your hunches and gifts. This becomes trust in your own style"
➡ Stage 4: "become the focused leader—the whole person—you long to be. You learn from both external and internal sources. You masterfully use what others model and teach and what you know to be true about yourself to lead."

You too, no matter what you think, have what it takes to be a leader. This book will convince you that by being yourself you can find your way to your own leadership.

You'll find some great insight into time management and self-confidence, not only from the author's experience but also from research. And you'll know more about leadership and, in particular, who you are.

Ready to find out the kind of leader you are?

Do you feel that you are meant to be successful but there is something that always pushes you back? You take two steps forward in the direction of success but then take three steps backwards. We really are not aware of the reason behind this. It’s different than a lot of other books in the market because it gets your hidden ‘leader’ out of you.

The author in this book help people to overcame the struggle they face in life. Consequently, he wrote this book. This book explores the reasons and the tips and tricks on how to overcame this. He mentioned a lot of self-management tools like how to set goals and achieve them, how to turn our weakness into our strength.

The book really connects with the readers to the core level and dives into the journey of self-exploration. The challenges are going to be there in life but this book will give you enough tools to overcame those obstacles in life with confidence. The author quoted a lot of examples to make it quite relatable to the readers. It’s a small book that comes handy and filled with abundance of knowledge. I highly recommend it. MUST BUY.

The book offers the road to individual who is struggling to build confidence. It works as catalyst between them. Marc shows some wonderful steps to implement.

In his second chapter, that is taking the leader journey, he has explained the content in the form of four quadrant. They are observe, focused, experiment and analyz. He has told that this are the stages of being a leader.

Then, moving forward he has mentioned that every quadrant hold potential. Like in first you learn which leader to follow, on second you discover learning style , in third appreciating uniqueness, in fourth you almost ready to cope with the different storms coming in your way through the strategies you have learned across so far in the other quadrants.

A short and engaging read filled with stories and applicable learnings.
The book focuses on 4 Stages or Quadrant of leadership:
1. OBSERVE - at this stage you 'observe' other leaders to emulate and you try to lead the same way as you have been observing.
2. EXPERIMENT - After emulating for a while, you notice the reactions aren't as you expected by the people. So you move to stage 2, which is 'experiment'.
3. ANALYSE - At this stage, you 'analyze' your learnings from the experiment stage.
4. FOCUSED - All the analyzing and experimentation give you confidence and lead you to quadrant 4.

So the book is all about making an individual, particularly a leader, better in all aspects. The advices are practical and can be applied in an everyday life as well. All of that being said, the cover also looks awesome. 😁

This is a book that I have needed for a while. Doubt is a central part of our journey and it can often cause people to "play it safe", not to take risks or be bold. Going all in leading people takes time, effort discomfort and risk. Marc Pitman takes us through four quadrants of leadership to get in touch with our inner strengths, limitations, our values and our own goals and harness our doubts rather than let doubt lead the way.

The book is a great short book that looks at improving three areas, hardwiring, identity and goals. It has lots of practical steps and some examples so you can see how other people have mastered stress and now lead with grace, flexibility and confidence.

This is a must read for anyone that has doubts about their potential, taking the next steps or being bold! Check it out @booksnatcher1

In "The Surprising Gift of Doubt", @marcpitman reveals how you can not only conquer imposter syndrome (yes, even the biggest leaders often feel like imposters 👀) but also transform these negative feelings into a personal and unique leadership style for your organisation.

📚 While reading this book, I took prolific notes to discover the following:

1. what are my truest abilities?✨
2. how can I use storytelling to amplify them? 🗣️
3. what's my end goal? 🎯
4. how will my leadership style set me apart? 💯

Although I'm still figuring these out, I feel MUCH closer to answering them after reading this book 🙌🏽

Good leadership is a skill that can empower us and also enhance the performance of a team. In this book, Pitman teaches us how we can tap into our potential and be the leader that our team deserves ❤️

Lots of leaders like to talk endlessly about change. Institutional change, culture change, changing paradigms, radical change and “being changemakers.” Pitman, in Surprising Gift of Doubt, points out that most of these leaders talking about change are just…talk. There’s little actual change because these leaders never take time to engage in true self-examination, and because they can’t take a deeper look at themselves, they can’t really look at their organizations. When faced with challenges, these companies fail to adapt and overcome because they never let doubt push them into the kind of organizational introspection needed to create and embrace real changes. This book encourages leaders to do the hard work. Go through the test on pg 93. Happy with the answers? No? Then use that as a jumping off point.

Easy read. Extremely helpful if you are in a leadership role and gotten to a point of a lot of doubt. Pitman explains that your doubt is the key to your next level. He walks you through a process of self development exploration to help you manage it. At first I thought I’ve seen these techniques before, however I also realized he provides a different approach based on his many years of leadership and leadership executive coaching. He can provide practical perspective on how to rethink about our patterns and make adjustments. He also provides instruction to help us “get to know” ourselves better. I found this book very helpful and I love neuroscience and psychology...he incorporates what he’s learned in those areas in the book.

In this book, the writer talks about the leadership. He has divided the book in ten chapters and has explain very keenly everything.

Though, there are different ideas about leadership, author has precisely picked tools. Pitman has highlighted the key elements that one requires to make personal growth as well as individual or particular company.

He has broken the steps of achieving in quadrants. he has focused on the on personal perspective of individual like how it can play a important role in success.

One of the chapter is about, “knowing your strengths of your motivation”. In which he has mentioned about The Enneagram Symbol. And furtherly he has explained well.

So, this is worth reading atleast once. I usually don’t go for non fiction book but yeah this is worth reading.
