I grew up in Lexington, Kentucky in the 1970’s. We had no artists of any kind in the family. We didn’t know any artists. I liked sports, especially baseball. My mother read to me a lot. But I have to admit, my favorite subject in school was gym class. I also liked to draw. My parents encouraged me to keep drawing.
Otis is a very busy tractor, with. Numerous skills. When He meets a new friend, Otis is so very happy. He plays and dances until he's too tired to do much of anything else. At that point, it's time to turn this busy day into one with a nap pinned to it. While note yet ready to read alone, Neo is excited to explore books like Otis, piecing together words and ideas in hopes of being as voracious a reader as some of his family members.
Just enjoyed this cute little book with my emerging reader! She loved being able to guess some of the unfamiliar words as she sounded them out. She just asked if we could get another out from the library.
This is a boring book. I guess it's good for kids who like tractors. It's really basic, which makes it easy to read to a small child. The sentences are very simplistic. The art is in a very strange style. There is a personified tractor with eyes and a mouth that does things that tractors aren't actually able to do like dancing and singing.
The anthropomorphic tractor goes through his day. He does some activities in very simple words. He gives a dog a ride. He goes home. He goes to sleep. The end.
Beginning Reader Picture book Guided Reading level C Publisher: Penguin Young Readers; Reprint edition (June 26, 2014)
This is a wonderful beginning reader book. It tells about Otis's day on the farm and all of the things he does. I love the illustrations that support the text. I would use this book with beginning readers. I think boys would especially love this story. This book could be used with a farm unit.
A simple story about Otis's day on the farm. The simplicity gives this book a very classic feel, as do the accessible and brief sentences that grace most of the spreads (Otis goes up.\ Otis goes down.\ Otis jumps.)A comforting easy reader for very young Otis fans just starting to read independently.
We were in the store today to pick out books for a little girl's birthday. My Kindergarten son picked out this book -- I don't think it was for the little girl. On the way home, he read it to us -- perfectly.
This Easy Reader has a little bit of a story, and fabulous illustrations. You just can't go wrong with an Otis book.
beginner book Yes, a level 1 reader that actually has short simple sentences with words appropriate for a true beginner reader. The hardest word is probably tractor. The illustrations aren't real colorful, but they are good and plentiful.
Otis is a tractor and he lives and works on a farm where he does many things. One of my favorite things he did in this story was to make a new friend. Simply written and smartly illustrated, this book and the other Otis books are great for beginning readers.
A wonderful companion to Loren Long's Otis series! Kindergarten friends will love the fact that they can read an Otis book all by themselves with this early reader! Hope there are more to come!
We are huge Otis fans. Although this one was a short one I am excited that my Kindergartner can nearly read the whole thing AND all of Otis' friends from previous stories were in it.

Excerpt: Otis jumps. Otis zips. Look, a friend!"
My Review: This book came in a set that I picked up for Munchkin. We have enjoyed Otis books in the past and this book was no different. This is a great book for Level One Readers (kids who are just starting to read with help). The book does have a nice storyline that will keep the reader interested. It also has simple sentences (see the excerpt above), easy words and some sight words. And of course it has the Otis illustration style and his friends on the farm.
