About the author

Mark Water trained for the Anglican ministry at the London College of Divinity. He was ordained as an evangelical minister in 1966. For the past 20 years he has been engaged in the ministry of Christian literature as writer, editor, and advisor.

This book is a functional one that provides the history, timelines, and basic beliefs of all the world's major religions. It serves to be quite helpful for a person who needs quick statistics or a quick summary of a religion.

Its name, however, reveals the books biggest weakness. It attempts to make world religions "simple" and fails to provide an in depth study of any of them. This is perhaps an unfair critique, however, as the book is obviously not intended to provide an in depth study at all.

I do intend to hold on to this book and use it as a reference and recommend it to others for the same purpose. However, if your goal is to really dig into a particular religion, I recommend you look elsewhere.

This pocket-size book is helpful if you want a snapshot overview of some the major religions of the world, and how they differ from (mainstream?) Christianity.

It covers just enough of the basics of each of the religions (~2 pages on each) and quotes from the Bible throughout the book to point to how these religions deviate from it. It touches on what the religion in question believes about salvation, about Jesus, about the afterlife, etc.

Some of the religions covered: Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Confucianism, New Age Movement, Roman Catholicism, Mormonism, Christian Scientism.

excellent little book, a full 65 pages paced with reference information about world religions, some history and at the end it gives you 15 infallible thoughts about the reasons for Jesus being the way, the truth and the life...,a gem of a book...a keeper!

I like this little book. It gives a quick run-down of world religions and the similarities and differences in them and the guiding principles of each. I use it for reference purposes mainly.

Grossly biased, but still informative, I suppose. I'm assuming a Baptist wrote this because they were the only denomination not dissed in this book?
