If I'm honest I struggled with this one, even though it 's a serialisation so very short. The paragraph structure/formatting was weird, one sentence per paragraph?!? This author doesn't seem to like using contractions either so both together made for a not so easy, jumpy read.
I like the idea of the doctor being held by the baddies after saving him, but not sure it's enough to continue if I'm going to struggle with making sense of the writing. 🤷
Romance genre: mafia Part of a series: Yes (it's a serial) Length: 56 pages
Plot: April is an ER doctor, and is walking home late one night when she hears gunshots. She runs to see what happened and if she can help. There is a car speeding away and a man bleeding in the alley. Another car comes up with people ready to rescue the man who has been shot. They take April with them as well, and once they get to their home, order her to keep the man alive. When he finally awakes, she finds that he is Valentin, the head of the Bratva (all over? in the area?). Nobody is letting her go any time soon.
Character development: Other than some passing thoughts, Valentin and April have no real interaction beyond some cursory doctor-patient stuff. Not necessarily a slow burn - it's only 50 pages into the story - but no hint of the romance to come (I assume). It wasn't really exciting and in fact was a little awkward. It did not pull me in and I didn't connect to any of the characters. I really think much of thatwould have been resolved by combining all the parts of the story. As it was, I didn't know where it was going, and then it ended.
Grammar/formatting: This didn't have to be a serial - all five parts could have been combined into one normal-length book. Also there was some weird paragraph formatting and some awkward dialogue.
First of all this is a installment series. there are only very few chapters each book. I don´t know why it has to be that way , what was author´s intention. being a big mafia arranged marriage trope fan i can say that its average not that good not bad bcz i think april gave in like too easy nd there is not much to her back story, also there are no sparks to chemistry. But i like that she still has the backbone untill the end and obviously lack of unnecessary hookups is also appreciative. I like valentin and his character but i don´t feel the sparks between both characters.Let me tell you there is negligible plot. But i still enjoy reading it did not feel like waste of time. Also i like the writing style of author, so 3 stars it is.
Holy crap - this is one good book and a great introduction to a new series. The story grabs your attention from the very beginning and keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. It does end with a cliffhanger.
April is an ER doctor and has just gotten off of a long shift at work and is ready to go home and rest for the next few days. But on her way home she finds a man bleeding to death in an alley and before she can call for help, she is whisked away with the man into an SUV and taken to a heavily guarded mansion. She is forced to tend to the mans injuries and while doing so learns that she has landed in Valentin Ivankov's world - A Russian Mafia don. Now she doesn't know if she will ever get to go home.

I liked the idea behind the book.
I liked that Valentin was gritty and tough that he was dark and in no way made to be a good guy.
What I hated about this book is that it was not a book it was the first few chapters of a book. I was just getting into the story when it finished and said want to read more get the next book.
is this book a teaser with the story finishing in the next book or will this "book" be sold in multiple "books"
when I read a book I want to read the story start to finish there is a huge difference between splitting a book into parts and have having books as part of a series. A book needs a start middle and end this "book" just has a start.
why was this book presented like that is it to make more money? because it feels rushed and released in parts as if it was not all ready at the same time. It would have been better to put all parts together as one book
Dr. April Cooker is an ER Physician that just finished a long rotation. The only thing she wants is pasta and her bed. Her plan is derailed when she hears gunshots and her desire to heal kicks in. Valentine Ivankov is used to being in control and calling the shots. He’s also used to everyone knowing exactly who he is and what he is capable of. Everything that he is used to comes to a crashing halt when a violent encounter brings him and April together.
This is my first book from this author. I don’t know what I was expecting but it was not this. I was pleasantly surprised as I did not read the description before I started (I feel like it ruins the intrigue). The characters and the story were well written and thankfully fully developed. The idea behind the story keeps things interesting. The only downside is that I didn’t expect it to be so short. For that reason, the ending seems quite abrupt. This could either be a brilliant idea or a beautiful mess. I have a sneaking suspicion that it will lean more towards brilliant.
I have made my predictions and can’t wait for the next installment to see if any of them come to pass. Because I don’t read previews, I will be impatiently waiting. I am so glad that I found this author and look forward to reading more of her work.

All I can say is holy crap, what a lead in to a series. Okay so here's this dedicated ER doctor, April. She is leaving from a shift at the hospital when she hears gunshots. What April finds is a man barely holding on. As she is ready to assess his injuries, she is suddenly taken and whisked off to a mansion. She is told to help him. What she doesn't know at the time is that this is Valentin, the mafia don. When she does find out, she suddenly wonders if her life will ever be the same. Are they just going to let her leave? Or we she no longer see the inside of her home? Will she ever get to use her skills again to save lives in the ER? Then....boom! There's one doozy of a cliffhanger. This is one helluva lead in to a series and Amber Adams has paved the way for her readers to have an incredible reading experience. Hey, grab the book., it's free so what do you have to lose? Betcha you can't read just one.
April is an ER Dr and is at the wrong place at the wrong time. After a shift in the ER she heads home only to hear gun shots. She finds a man (Valentine)in an alleyway barely alive the next thing she knows she and the bullet ridden guy are bundled into an SUV and taken to a mansion. After saving his life valentine informs her that she will be staying with him to help with his recovery and it’s then she finds out he’s the Don of Russian crime family and has no intention of letting her go before he’s sure she’ll stay quiet about everything she’s seen and heard. Some thing interesting is found out about April by Valentine and that’s where it ends. Not too much happens because the book is so short so definitely going to have to buy the 2nd one to find out the big reveal. But the story and characters are interesting enough your going to want to find out what happens. There are6 books to this this 1 story so you may just want to get the set.

i read this book as part of an arc program. This is the first book in the Mafia Dark Romance series. In this book, April is an ER doctor who was on her way home and found an injured man. April realized the man was shot and wanted to take him to the ER, but a group of men took her and the injured man back to a house that was outfitted with a room that had everything the ER would have. April was told to save his life and it was clear she was not allowed to leave and if the man died, she would too. The man is Valentin Ivankov, Russian mafia don, and when he wakes up and sees April, he wants her to stay with him, even if she wants to leave. I am hooked on this story. i can't wait to read what happens next, i love how April is trying to find a way back to her life, but knows things will never be the same again. Good one.
April is an ER physician so when she sees a man bleeding out in an ally way shes does what she is trained to do and help, if only she knew the consequences. Believing she was being helped in taking the man to hospital she ends up being taken captive. Valentin was shot and left for dead until an angel appeared from the dark and saves him. Discovering who Valentin is, April fears the worst that even after saving the Dons life she will never be let free from her captors clutches. This is a well written short introductory read to begin the series, that is nicely paced and filled with intrigue that has you needing to know more! Ends on a cliff hanger. Cant wait for part 2!

More like a short story with a cliffhanger, this is a story about April Cooker, an ER nurse who is walking home after work one evening when she hears gunshots ringing out. She takes off toward the sound and finds a man laying in an alley in a pool of blood. Before she fully realizes what is happening, an SUV is pulling up and taking the man, and her, away. At a mansion in the middle of nowhere, she is told to save his life. The story wasn’t much more than that. I left out who the man is and what he does for a living. So far, this is average and probably would have been better if I had the opportunity to read the book as a whole instead of paying for small portions on my Kindle. I went ahead and bought the next portion to see if it’s worth continuing. Will report back on that later!
I absolutely loved this story of Dr. April Cooker and Valentin. I’m ready to see what happens next. April is ready to go home from her shift when she hears gunshots. What she encounters next is something I’m sure will forever be in her mind. Valentin is hanging on by a limb. What April doesn’t know is who this man is, and why she’s the one who has to take care of him but she does it. When Valentin is awake and April finds out who is he and that she can’t go home, what will she do. Can April handle what Valentin tells her, will they form a bond, will she be able to go home. Get ready and enjoy this amazing book.
Brutal Captor 1 by Amber Adams consists of the beginning 10 chapters of April and Valentin's store in which she struggles to save his life after finding him bleeding out in an alley. Being an ER physician, April is capable to patch him to keep him alive enough so he can pull through on his own. I enjoyed this first part of Brutal Captor. Being an EMT student myself, I like to see how the author portrays the medical aspects in their books. Although what I'm studying is different from what April's job is thinking about it from my point of view as an EMT student is helpful. I think Amber Adams got down what some of the basics would be to keep Valentin alive through Dr. April Cooker. Of course from my point of view there was a whole lot more that she could have done. But the intention is there. For this reason I am giving it a 4 star rating. I felt like it was missing something. Perhaps it's because it's not the full story.
Sometimes being a-doctor is hard, you can’t turn it off. When ER Doc April Cooker finally comes to the end of a brutal 12 hour shift, all she can think about is her 3 days off, her king sized bed, and mindless tv. Just as she’s almost home she hears gunshots and of course her instincts say go help. Only this time, she’s forced into an SUV at gun point trying to keep her patient alive. After arriving at some compound with it’s own surgical suite and a stockpile of her mysterious patient’s blood she’s warned that he better not die. Who is this man? He’s the head of The Russian Mob and she’s not going anywhere!
Brutal Captor starts off with a bang. April is an ER doctor who is walking home exhausted after a long shift. She hears gunshots and runs to help. The man is injured and bleeding, but knows if he gets to the hospital in time he has a good chance of survival. Men arrive and force April into their car and let her know that if her patient dies, she dies too.
When Valentine wakes, he is in pain but intrigued by the doctor. He extends an invitation for her stay (though she really has no choice) and is determined to find out everything he can about her.
Good start to the series. This book ends on a cliffhanger, you'll have to read the series to find out what's in store for April and Valentine.
This is a few chapters of a series - the beginning of an enemies to lovers romance. And it is good! Julie is an ER physician who saves a Valentin's life. Valentin is a crime boss. Will he let her go in exchange for her help or keep her captive because she's seen too much? This story is told from April's and Valentin's POV. It is fast paced with danger and suspense hanging over their initial meeting. Both characters are interesting, multi-layered and in for a few surprises. I look forward to the next installment of what looks like a dramatic adventure!

Editing in this book sucks, not authors fault. Some pretty glaring mistakes are the Russian Bratva does not have Dom’s that’s Italian Mafia. Sorry Valentin doesn’t work with Ivanov for a Russian name either! Story line is good but the short instalments are irritating to say the least. Sorry will not be continuing, just can’t get past the Bratva, Mafia glaring mistakes and the extremely short episodes! This could have easily been fixed in editing. Please next time take the steps necessary to make the book believable and get the whole book out! Not just pieces. Such a shame. Let us readers know when you editors get your act together and do your job!
So this was my first book by this author and i was pleasantly surprised! It was written really well, the story flowed and captured my attention throughout. I liked the characters and the overall theme. My only slight criticism was how short it was, I was literally just getting into it and then it ended and on a cliff hanger as well....I wanted more and now have to wait for the next book to find out what happens!

April, an ER physician, runs down an alley when she hears shots fired after a long day and night at work and finds Valentin, bratva don, with multiple wounds. As the story progresses her decisions are taken from her, her life hangs in the balance like her patient, and the hope of returning to her regular life could go up in smoke. Brutal Captor is a nice quick mafia themed read that I look forward to continuing.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
EXTREMELY short read ....... This book ends on a cliffhanger, you'll have to read the series to find out what's in store. April is an ER doctor who is exhausted and on her way home .. she hears shots fired and instead of leaving it be to the police she heads toward where she heard the shots........she finds an injured man. April realized the man was shot and wanted to take him to the ER, but a group of men took her and the injured man back to a house that was outfitted with a room that had everything the ER would have... and she realized was even better than the hosp.. April was told to save his life and it was clear she was not allowed to leave and if the man died, she would too. The man is Valentin Ivankov, Russian mafia don, and when he wakes up and sees April, he wants her to stay with him, even if she wants to leave. ... pretty typical to start ...
April is an ER doctor just getting off of her shift. On her way home she hears gunshots, almost gets run over but finds a man shot in the alley way. Instinct kicks in and she starts to work on him. An SUV pulls up and they load her and the victim in and take off. They take her to a mansion with a medical room. Out of her element she takes 5 bullets out of him. Nothing too bad. He is a very dangerous man, head of a Russia organized crime family. Valentin is thankful but cannot let her go. What will happen to April? TBC story.
Dr April Cooker is an ER physician and after a long day as she is walking home she witnesses somebody being shot in an alley. From that point on everything becomes a whirlwind affair os epic proportion! Her patient is none other than Valentin Ivankov, bratva don and will not let April go but why? Amazing chatacters and attention grabing story that leaves you on a cliffhanger. I can't wait to see what's next in store for Valentin and April. I olunteered to review this story.
Dr. April Cooker does the ethical thing, she rushes to the aid of a gunshot victim. Unfortunately for her, the victim is the Don of the local Bratva. The guards keep her to save their Don's life. His uncle and his mother threaten her life if he dies. The first thing his uncle says is he shouldn't have lived. While the Don is figuring out exactly what happened they're keeping her with them. I'm very anxious to see what happens next.
I love this story. April is a doctor and she is finished with her shift. She hears gunshots and stumbles upon an injured person (Valentin). Can she save his life without knowing who he is and the consequences she is having to face. This is an excellent start to a new series from this author. It will keep you interested and to see what happens next. Looking forward to reading the next book
This book is a great start for the series. It has me hooked, totally and hopelessly. April and Valentin are addictive and I can't wait to see what happens next in this action-packed page-turner. That cliffhanger just about killed me. Bring it on! I received a free ARC copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
I don't give 5 stars to cliffhangers. But this looks to be a 5 star serial read! This first episode really got my attention. Dr. April has been abducted to care for mafia boss, Valentin after being shot. She saved his life.. Now......how will she get out of there? This book is offered free. Just know you'll want to purchase the rest! It's gonna be good!
