About the author

Since 1971, John has lived in Putnam County, Indiana, currently on a small farm southeast of Greencastle. Throughout those years he has worked as a teacher, football coach , quality control foreman, carpenter, and wood-splitter. From 1979-1997 he assisted James R. Gammon of DePauw University with Gammon's landmark research on the Wabash River. Presently, as he has done for the past twenty years John works as a researcher for the DePauw University Archives.

John is author of 13 books in the Garth Ryland mystery series, several published articles, and the Bicentennial History bulletins for the Indiana United Methodist Church. His works in progress include a Garth Ryland mystery and Me ,Darst, and Alley Oop Walking the Dog, both memoirs. River Rats, a coming of age novel, set along the Wabash River in the 1950's.

This quick-reading mystery involves a man who is searching for a previous lover, a woman who has apparently been abducted or killed by a current boyfriend. The search takes him into the north woods of Minnesota and Wisconsin, and the ending will surprise the reader.

I found this to be an easy to read mystery book that tells about a man who is searching for a past lover. Is she dead or alive? It takes place in Northern Minnesota. I concluded that there are may wolves in sheep's clothing in this book. I had trouble putting the book down.

I think this one was the creepiest of all so far. Although I had a good portion of it solved, certainly not all of it. One thing I truly can appreciate about Riggs is that NEVER do I have the whole truthful accurate solution worked out before the end! That is fun. This one in the series was, I felt, much more of a "downer" than the other four. Not nearly as "enjoyable" a read for me, though well plotted and characterized, as usual!
