Harley was living in a foster home where Jasmine lived with her parents. To say that was a temptation and a problem was an understatement. How the foster parents treated him was just wrong. But now he's back to look for a war dog and things there aren't as they seem. This book gives you a look how some foster homes can be and what happened to the 16 year girl he left behind. There's action, heat and of course the dogs. A great story. HEA. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Harley, our wounded walking Seal searches for our War Dog Boswer back in his old hometown where the only love or joy was from his foster sister, Jasmine who he hasn't seen since he left, when she was 16. There is mystery, intrigue, dogs - yes dogs, not one by 2. Makes my heart smile. There are old memories and hurts to sift through and surprises along the way. I am in awe of Jasmines inner strength what she did, how she perseveres and saddened by her lack of faith in herself, letting guilt control her. This books provides snip its of reality that happen daily all around the world. One would be a spoiler so I won't share suffice it to say it's a sad back drop where the darkness is turned into joy. Harley was placed in a foster home, one of those who fostered for the income. Where love was not part of growing up, but rules were. This scene or versions there of, bad fosters, is so prevalent in real life that when we hear about a good foster home (and I have friend who is loving on her foster children left and right :) ) we find it hard to believe and accept. When he comes back and sees Jasmine he finds her father has died and she is caring for her mother who has dementia. The ups, the downs, the possibilities of caring and lack there of are all dealt with briefly and poignant enough to touch us all. I personally would have been there telling Jasmine daily, that it was time to put her cruel, thoughtless (before dementia) in a home. She has lived her life for them, its time for her. Boswer made my dog loving heart pitter. I have said this before, and I will say it again, Dale Mayer writes books that entertain, but always have kernels of situations that make you think. Thank you for the arc. I freely volunteer my long winded thoughts (in this one) and my opinions.

Harley

This is an exciting story about a boy being forced to leave his foster home and when he comes back, he’s a man. So many kids in the foster system have a rough life as it is, but for Harley, his foster parents saw him as a paycheck and not a young boy. They didn’t love Harley and couldn’t give him any affection. He was forced to turnover one half of his wages when he became old enough to work odd jobs and it seemed he was always in trouble, so he was pushed out when he graduated high school.

I find a story of this kind very sad and yet, the boy knew enough about life that he needed to stay in the foster family, keeping his head down, until he graduated high school, then he was off to the Navy. I am inspired when kids take control of their life so early and are determined to make something of themselves.

I felt so sorry for the boy who didn’t know what kindness or love was except from his foster sister, Jasmine. They became very close and Jasmine’s father warned Harley to stay away from her, but they never forgot each other. I hurt for those kids who crave just a little love and positive attention only to be rejected time and time again by the foster families they are bounced around to. I was also saddened by the mental condition of Jasmine’s mother even though she was as mean to Harley and Jasmine as her father was.

I was impressed by Harley’s transformation from the troubled boy of the foster system to the brave man and Navy SEAL he has become. I also felt pride in Harley’s determination to go after Bowser, the War Dog he was sent to find, despite knowing drug runners were abusing the dog for their drug operation.

This is a great story, full of different kinds of difficult emotions, but this author portrayed each one with thoroughness and empathy. I love the journey Harley and Jasmine are on for their second chance at love and a new life!

When Harley returns to his small town after being away for over ten years, he has mixed feelings as that is where he left his first and only love, Jasmine. She was too young and he needed to get out, being raised in her household as a foster child, he had it rough and even though he promised he would be back…he didn’t return….until now and with a mission to find a war dog. Jasmine is stunned that Harley is back and divulges secrets that no one believed in the past but Harley believes as he knows he is not the father of her son. Now that he’s back, Jasmine gets put into danger whether it’s because of his mission or her past.
A good read with a bit of steam, suspense, secrets and surprises. I liked Harley but was a bit disappointed in his first reaction when he finds out what happened to Jasmine, he does later on show more emotion on the matter which made up for it. Jasmine was too nice in my opinion, her dedication and devotion to her mom was almost Stockholm syndrome with the way she was treated and unloved….why she stayed I can’t get my head around it, no matter the circumstances it was emotional and mental abuse. I did like the surprise with the dogs and how easily these two came together after many years apart, and the no drama between them.

This is another hit in Dale Mayer’s K-9 files series. As a teenager Harley was the bad boy in town. He was falling in love with Jasmine but she was only sixteen, too young for him. To get away from temptation as soon as graduated he entered the Navy. After an accident forced him out of the Navy, he’s back in Montana to find a retired war dog. It was easy for Harley to find the military dogs, taking them away from the drug dealers who were abusing them was a different story. When the drug dealers kidnap Jasmine’s son to trade for the dogs, Harley takes on the drug dealers alone. Only Harley isn’t alone, the well trained military dogs have his back. While Harley is back in Montana, He realizes that he still has feelings for Jasmine. The bad boy returns to Montana, cleans up the town from the drug dealers and gets the girl. There couldn’t be a better ending.

This book was close to my heart as my mother suffered from dementia and died in 2016.
Great storyline except I feel that I was left hanging. I would have loved knowing how things turned out for them regarding her mother and whether they stayed there or not.

This is the fourteenth book in the brilliant K9 series, whether or not you are a dog lover you can't help but be touched by these heart-warming stories.
Ex navy SEAL, Harley had recovered from his injuries, he now had a functioning prosthetic left arm and was contemplating the next chapter in his life.
Part of Harley's job had been training K9 war dogs so when he was given the opportunity to search for war dog Browser, who had gone off the radar, he was more than willing to take up the challenge.
Eureka, Montana had mixed memories for Harley, he had been fostered there as a child by a family who didn't treat him well and who fostered for the money that the government gave them, the one good thing was Jasmine, their daughter, she was sixteen, they were madly in love but he would never be good enough for her so he took the best way out and joined the navy.
When Harley came face to face with Jasmine again he knew that the attraction was still there but life had not been good to Jasmine.
This story follows the rekindling romance between Jasmine and Harley, tracing the badly treated war dog and gaining another in the process, facing a drug cartel who had high ambitions of expanding across the country, kidnapping and facing the hatred of almost everyone in the town who blamed him for a crime that he did not commit.
Another lovely, action packed story by Dale Mayer and I look forward to the next one.

This book reveals the difficult love story between Harley and Jasmine. They meet at Jasmine’s house when her parents become Harley’s foster parents. Unfortunately, her parents are uncaring and selfish to both Harley and Jasmine. Their only happiness is the friendship they have with each other. Eventually, their friendship turns into love.

When Harley turns eighteen, he leaves his foster home to join the Navy. Even though she is only sixteen, Jasmine wants very badly to leave with him. However, Harley, realizes that they are too young, and refuses to take her. He promises to return, but he never does.

Years later, Harley is seriously injured and must leave his life as a Navy SEAL. He returns to his hometown to search for, Bowser, a missing retired War Dog. The family who originally adopted him, sells him to suspected drug dealers who appear to be abusing him.

It is then that Harley finally returns to see Jasmine. However, Jasmine is a bitter woman who has lived a very unhappy, miserable life since Harley left her. I cannot reveal any part of her life because it will spoil the story. However, the author devotes a huge part of this story to describing, in great detail, Jasmine’s life after Harley leaves.

This story also includes a lot of action as Harley attempts to find Bowser and steal him back. However, Jasmine’s life takes center-stage in this book.

Thus is another fantastic K-9 Files story by Dale Mayer. Her realistic characters and unusual plot will, at different times, bring you to tears, make you angry and, finally, give you a happily ever after.

Harvey has returned to the town where he was raised in order to find one of the missing war dogs - war dog Bowser. However, this will raise all sorts of bad memories for Harley as he was there as an unhappy foster years ago and had to leave there (and the girl he loved who was too young for him ) in order to join the navy. Having snagged Bowser back from a so-called handler but Harley knows he has to stop them. After all the years, Jasmine waits for Harvey to return but he won't be happy with what she has gone through. When he does turn up, she knows that only total honesty will be good enough even if it is going to be rough and bring back parts of her life that she would prefer to forget. However, it also appears that Harvey's arrival has prompted someone to do whatever they have to hide the truth just as Harvey will do everything he can in order to get justice for her.

I really enjoyed this story which added information to Harley's life before the Navy as well as events after he left the area. It seems that it was a great time for him to return and he handled everything like the mature and sensible guy he now is. I enjoyed the dilemmas that Jasmine was struggling with - some of which are common to most people's lives. It was easy to read and understand. Contains a little sexual content at the end of the story.

Number 14 in the K9 files. It did have me thinking about the story long after I had finished the book. It's about second chances 12 years later. Harley is looking for a War Dog. He meet up with an old friend who catches him up on all he has missed out on in the last 12 years. He visits with Jasmine, his former foster sister and his girl friend. From there things start happening, a bullet through the kitchen window, a treat from a man who manhandles a dog. A run in with this man and another who appears to have another War Dog guarding a building that the police know all about but don't seem too interested in stopping whatever activity is taking place from this building. Jimmy, Jasmine's son goes missing. Round about then Jasmine's mother, whom she cares for, falls and breaks her hip, being admitted to hospital. In this way Jasmine is freed for a little while of her responsibilities toward her mother and can focus on her son and Harley. Harley locates Jimmy, tied up and witness to the beating of another man. He is also privy to hearing what the man pointing a gun at his head did to his mother, all those years ago. He also witness' his biological screwed in the head father's death. The dogs and Harley save the day and all is well for Jimmy, Harley and the dogs. Apparently, a lot of things can happen in a 48 hour period. You do want to continue reading, right to the end, whilst on the edge of your chair. No for the faint hearted either.

Oh my! 😢These characters broke my heart, dogs as well. So much pain and struggle. For Jasmine, Harley leaving and the events that happened not long after. Her dad and her mum, wow I'm not sure I could have been quite so caring of either of them with the treatment they gave out. Harley the pain of losing his own family then finding love with his girl but her being to young, pressure from foster parents so he chose to go in the navy. Then an accident changes his life again. The war dog, his life isn't a bed of roses either. This story has suspense and action, it's emotional and in some ways romantic. It's second chance love which is sweet, but then you get the violent aspect from the criminal side of town. It is definitely gripping and has you on the edge of your seat in places and then sighing in contentment in others. Dealing with Alzheimer's is not easy, I'm dealing with a parent myself so do understand that side of this story, but for Jasmine it brings up some very painful truths which is extra hard and I really empathised with her and being torn about what to do. These dogs 🐅💖 I loved them and Harley, so glad they found each other. This is a real HEA. Started 16/11/ 21 finished 17/11/21

Jasmine's parents took on Harley as a foster kid when he was younger and he was specifically told to stay away from her by her parents. So he followed their rules until he graduated and left for the Navy breaking each others hearts. He has never stopped loving her and wonders what her life is like now. What will happen when she sees him in town? They definitely have a lot to talk about now that he is there to check on a war dog named Bowser. He has to bring Bowser back at all costs, especially since his handler is in the drug trade and ruthless to the dog's wellbeing. The dog belongs the the US military. Harley's friend tells him that Jasmine has a son and everyone believes Jimmy is Harley's. What will happen when the truth comes out and everyone knows that Jimmy is not his. There's a lot going on in this book and some of it is crazy. Jasmine's parents were off the rails, to say the last. You just have to read it for yourself. So many questions and lots of danger. But will they make it through alive?

TW//CW abuse, animal abuse, child abuse, domestic abuse, mental illness

a 3.5 stars read.

Another series that I adore from Dale Mayer. It's all about saving war dogs. So yeah who doesn't love that? Aside from saving war dogs, there's always side case that connnected to the romance part. So yeah it's a cute full of actions with wonderful dogs romantic suspense read. It's always an easy-to-read fast-paced page-turner story that can be easily to be devoured in short amount of time. My go-to book when I need a pick-me-up read or just want to read something light, something to read between heavy books.

This one is a rescue mission to save Bowser the War Dog that has been sold to a drug dealer and a second chance romance between Harley and Jasmine with ugly past and secrets that pretty complicated. Yup I really enjoyed it, always love when those wonderful dogs in action and love the protectiveness of Harlley towards Jasmine, what I don't like though, that some parts a bit unbelievable for me, but hey It still a fun read for me and if you're looking for a light fast-paced suspense read with wonderful dogs in it, try this one.

Harley has returned to the town he left after only sticking it out while in a foster home until he was old enough to sign up, he is looking for Boswer a war dog that appears to have been sold and to a not so good guy. After being gone so long he wasn't sure what to expect but is shocked by what he is told about Jasmine his foster sister and this leads to danger not for him but Jasmine. I loved how you weren't sure of the reason for the danger to kick off and how it involves Jasmin and I also hated not only how Harley had been treated while being fostered by Jasmin's parent but how he wasn't the only one, do I feel sorry for Jasmine's mum well no, I feel like karma came for a visit. Things slowly start to come together and secrets as well as a haunting event come to light but you are still left guessing for a while on who is behind everything and then when it all comes to ahead you aren't sure who is going to survive as things escalate quickly and has you concerned that Jasmin and Harley don't get the chance they missed out on years ago.

An exciting suspense filled second chance romance too. When Badger asks Harley if he has any experience with dogs,Harley says other than loving dogs he got to help some with the K9 in the Seals but never got his own dog. When Badger asks if he heard of the favor they are doing for the Navy checking on the war dogs making sure they have good homes and are being treated well. Then he says a shepard/Maltese was sold by the owner to be used as a guard dog.Harley says that's a good job for a military dog until Badger says he's in the hands of drug smugglers. His flight, room and food will be paid for but he won't be paid for this.Harley says he will leave on the first flight out. Harley never thought he'd be back in the small town he grew up in unless it was for the only woman he's ever loved but left because she was sixteen and he was eighteen he couldn't take care of her but joined the Navy and after a bad accident that ended his Navy Seal career. Will he get a second chance with the woman he loved ? Will he rescue Bowser? There are so many twists and turns to this story you will be riveted until the very last page and leave you begging for more.

Harley is returning to his hometown to check on the war dog Bowser. The only bright side is he may get to see the girl he had to leave behind, Jasmine. She's the daughter of his former foster parents, and when he left for the Navy she was only 16. He stops to see his friend Daniel and have a burger at the Pub and finds out Jasmine has a son and everyone in town thinks he's the father. Now he needs to know the truth.

Jasmine is shocked to see him, she never expected him to return. Now she's going to have to tell him what happened after he left.

Right off the bat we find someone isn't happy Harley is back. So, Harley is going to stay close to Jasmine, her son and mother. He has to check on the dog, and get him away from that illegal drug group. Then solve the mystery of who actually drugged Jasmine and got her pregnant.

He can't help but like her son Jimmy and he finds himself falling for her all over again.

I couldn't put this book down, there is a lot of suspense and danger. I loved all the interactions with the dogs and Jimmy.

I can't wait for the next book in this series.

Returning, Just in Time

A second chance romance filled with mystery, suspense and heartache. Harley has been recovering from serious injuries he endured as a SEAL. He left his foster home to join the Navy at 18. But it meant leaving his high school sweetheart, Jasmine, behind. She was the 16 year old daughter of his foster parents and he thought it was the best he could do for her. Harley comes back to Montana in search of a missing War Dog. But when he does return "home" after 12 years he finds she has an 11 year old son, Jimmy. And Harley knows the child can't be his. Harley can't stay away and soon finds himself tied into the rather staid and restrictive life Jasmine has been trapped into. Harley's appearance in his old town stirs up trouble, but he is not one to avoid it. Even injured, he takes on the unseemly side of life in town. Harley helps Jasmine, Jimmy and some seriously ineffectual and unhelpful local police clean up undesirables in town. This is a touching story of love and connection rediscovered.

Tucker left his home town as fast as he could once he graduated from high school. His foster parents were cruel and focused on money, they didn't care about Tucker and they really didn't want Tucker anywhere near their daughter Jasmine. Tucker really liked Jasmin but she was only 16 years old and he had been warned off by her father. Tucker did the only thing he could and left to make a better life for himself but he planned to come back later. Time slipped away and now he is headed back to his home town to check on Bowser a war dog that was adopted and then sold to someone else. As soon as he hits town he meets and old friend who tells him he has a son with Jasmine. Tucker and Jasmine were never together so he knows he does not have a son with her. His little home town has a lot of horrible secrets. Rape charges the police refused to investigate, foster parents forcing their foster child to get a job and then pay to stay with them, drug running as well as animal cruelty. I love this book but the story was heart wrenching at times.

Harley is headed for Montana to check on the welfare of a K-9 veteran who was retired, then adopted, then thought to be sold which is against the adoption rules. Harley is going to Eureka for the dog but it's also the town where he was raised and left a young love behind. Very young Jasmine was only 16 when Harley left his foster home to enlist in the Navy. This book includes some people you don't ever want to meet and some that you would love as neighbors. The choices many make are interesting and the outcome even more so. Of course, all the love, honor and good things are what keep you reading and maybe an extra K-9 War Dog too. The epilogue talks of Kyron going to Aspen to check on Beth another retired War Dog who is missing from his adoptive people. Count me in, this series is addictive!

Harley by Dale Mayer
The K9 Series Book Fourteen
Harley Bertrum was working for Badger when he was offered the volunteer job of checking on a War Dog, Bowser. He’d be heading back to Montana. A place he left twelve years ago and never looked back. Well, his mind went there often thinking about the girl he left behind. So yes, he jumped at the chance to help the dog and to see Jasmine.
Jasmine Willoughby’s life hadn’t been easy. She’d gone a bit wild after Harley left. He’d been a foster child, but her parents only took him in for the money. He wasn’t treated well. Neither was she. Her life changed after he left in so many ways. And now that he’s back in town…all heck is breaking loose.
I enjoy the K9 series. Romance, danger, with an added dose of dogs.

Harley's only regret when leaving his hometown for the Navy years ago was leaving his young girlfriend Jasmine behind. Now Harley is back to check the welfare of a war dog that was illegally sold and to check on Jasmine. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. I really like that Harley is a strong and mature man. He doesn't let the negative feelings of the town's people affect him. I didn't care for Jasmine at first, but I quickly realized that she was overwhelmed with her family responsibilities. I soon sympathized with her. I love how the suspense quickly builds in the story. I also love seeing that the romance between Harley and Jasmine is still there. I really enjoy this K9 series.

After an injury ended his career as a Navy SEAL Harley finds himself looking for Bowser, a missing K9, back in his hometown that held so many painful memories except when it came to his foster sister and the only woman he has ever loved.

Jasmine was devastated when Harley left her and their hometown behind to join the Navy. Now that he is back the secrets that she has tried to keep buried are about to resurface and their lives as well as the lives of the people they care about will never be the same.

This is a romantic and suspenseful story as Harley and Jasmine fight to overcome the past as well as the danger in the present so that they can have the future they have always wanted.

Harley was a foster child who was never really wanted by the family, he was just a paycheck to them. Except for their natural daughter. He made a deal with her dad to stay away from his daughter. Harley was trouble. He left Jasmine and he promised to come back but never did. Jasmine's stayed in town and is now taking care of her mother and her 11-year-old son.

Harley is back and learns that she has a son whom everyone in town assumes is his, he knows the truth, he isn't. Is sets out to find a missing war dog and finds a whole lot more. I enjoyed this installment of the series. I just felt the story was a bit too short. I wanted to know a bit more about the dog. Still an enjoyable story.

Harley

WOW! Another FANTASTIC story by Dale! This one is basically a second chance romance story. Harley is sent back to the town that he thought he would never return to because of his foster parents. He was also in love with Jasmine. He was sent to look for Bowser and found him along with a lot of trouble with who had Bowser. Now Harley found Bowser, he also discovered that the other dog with Bowser seemed to have the same training as him so he took in both dogs. Jasmine learned quite a few things about her parents which totally saddened her. Her son was kidnapped and Harley and the dogs saved him. Once the bad guys were taken care of, Harley and Jasmine worked on their happily ever after! FANTASTIC job Dale! I would highly recommend this book.

A search for a missing War Dog is the original goal of a retired SEAL. The K-9 Files are standalone books but are filled with strong men and even stronger women. Harley's search leads him to a woman in his past. Memories, new connections with old friends, and new possibilities. Romance and a bit more. Family complications and some sinister dealings (life is never simple). Another tale from Dale Mayer. I love the K-9 Files -- I find this series to be "just one more chapter" and this book held true. Bravo once again.

Harley

Harley grew up a foster kid and lived with Jasmine's family for 10 years. As they aged into teenagers they developed feelings for each other that were not to become anything else. Her father threatened Harley and Harley had too much respect to for Jasmine to take things any further as he was leaving for the Navy.
Fast forward 12 years, Harley is back in town to do a War Dog rescue not realizing the chain of events his appearance will cause. Will he be able to find and reclaim Bowser? Will he and Jasmine reconnect, maybe for good, or is she going to be in too much danger due to his return. Great standalone series!!

Harley, The bad boy, is back in town and Jasmine has waited for his return for more than a decade. He is looking for a War Dog who is rumored to be under the control of a drug grower who abuses the dog. When he gets into town, Haley's first stop is to see if his old friend still rents rooms above the bar he owns. What he finds out is that the whole town thinks he got his foster sister pregnant and skipped town.

Another winner by Dale Mayer!

Things start happening almost the moment Harley returns to the town, and the girl, he left behind twelve years ago. Life was not easy for Jasmine after Harley left all those years ago. She was only sixteen but his leaving changed her life and not for the better. Now that he is back will life get better for both Harley and Jasmine. Hopefully they will be able to have the future they both wanted back then but that was not possible.
