Waldo Rabbit #5

Rabbit the Barbarian

Rate this book
At last! Waldo, Alice, and Gronk have arrived at World's End and located a dragon! What once seemed absolutely impossible is now nearly within reach. With determination to get either a dragon's egg or a dragon Waldo sets out. He is soon face to face with the red dragon Luna and she is... not quite what he expected. Waldo knew reaching his final goal would be hard, but the obstacles prove to be rather unique. But when has that ever stopped Waldo?

Meanwhile, back in Alteroth, Lilith Corpselover is going to war! It is the opening engagement of what will be the largest war in two thousand years. The Dark Powers might show her enemies mercy, but Lilith certainly won't.

Plus, there's a kidnapped princess in need of rescue! Because of course there is! This is a fantasy series after all and we haven't done one of those yet. How does an imprisoned princess relate to Waldo's efforts to land a dragon's egg or dragon? There's only one way to find out.

So this one actually involved Waldo.

So it gets three stars. The gags are old, the characters are getting stale. The overall story is bogged down. I expected better from the series.

Not a book a short story

At this point I can not suggest following this author. The Rabbit story has run out of steam. Each book has gotten shorter and shorter. It's outright lazy. This and the last book should have been one book with a third added to end the story. Way way way way too short. Get off your hind end and write.

"Пътят към Ада е постлан с добри намерения" - една от най-добрите поговорки, която много, много често се оказва вярна в живота, връзките и политиката. Дали обаче пътят към Рая може да е постлан с лоши намерения?

Когато един млад "черен магьосник" тръгва по света да върши злини и да се докаже като достоен наследник на фамилията си, нещата някак успяват никога да не се случват точно така, както той си представя, че трябва.

Warning! Graphic portrayals of child abuse, cruelty, and torture as entertaining and enjoyable.

IMO, the cruelty and torture, along with the indifference to and enjoyment of, is barely tolerable. It does, however fit the characters and storyline. However, I read because I enjoy a good story. As I found with the series by Blaise Corvin that is "a best read" for so many, I have a hard limit. Mass genocide, torture as entertainment and crowd control, and especially child cruelty and torture are just more than I'm okay with, especially when the perpetrators are see such actions as performance art and personal entertainment. The children's experience of the event is described in detail. Burning entire families, including children at the stake to cripple the morale of a conquered people? No thanks. Taking pleasure and satisfaction from doing so? Not a place I want to spend time in.

I get it. The bad guys are really, really bad. And the main characters and culture are a standard fantasy trope of warped and evil beings. And like it or not, these things happen in the real world. Turn people loose in a violent setting and give them free license, and it is, unfortunately, not their better selves likely in control of their actions. Happily, I have not reached the point where I don't find these scenarios repellant, be it real life or fiction. I don't want to become immune through exposure, either.

There's no counter balance to the general acceptance of the scenario. What I really didn't appreciate is that it was totally unnecessary. Again, neither here, or in real life. In this case, there's this thing in the storyline about oaths. Waldo makes an oath with a dragon. The ramifications of oaths are explained in great detail. They are binding and inviolable. All of the people executed, terrorized, and burned at the stake could have been given the choice of an oath. it would have served the ends of a subservient populace.

So, the bottom line here is that it is done for the perverted enjoyment of individuals where such is a cultural norm. Again, the real life parallels are all too obvious. The fact that people can read this sort of thing and not have a problem wth it is truly the scary thing?

5 A Mother's Love Stars

Rabbit The Barbarian is the fifth book in the Waldo Rabbit series by Nelson Chereta.

I simply adore Lilith's displays of motherly affection towards Waldo specifically. It does annoy me that the Dark Families can not understand how she is able to genuinely cherish her children and yet still ensure they prove their own strength. I'm hopeful that the rest of this series will lead us to Waldo making a few or many lasting changes that will impact how Alteroth is run and led. Especially given his intention to bring Alice home, and have her beside him as he leads. Her influence alone will shape House Corpselover into a new and wonderful reign.

Meetin Luna has been such an enjoyment. I did not imagine a dragon in such a way. But yet Waldo has managed to locate such unique Great Monsters in Alice and Gronk already. How will Waldo manage to raise his Healing abilities to such an extent as to not take the expected 20 years to finally reach home again?

I am excited to come to understand how this fresh War will shape the world. I do wonder if all remaining Six houses will still be standing and functional when this War reaches its conclusion. But more I hope to experience it through Melissa's POV as well. I can not wait to learn how the author intends to have hers and Waldo's fate sealed when the time comes... It will be so unbelievably entertaining to experience how this unfolds. I only really feel bad for the followers on the Great Rabbit, I hope they can be saved?

Also, the absolute best scene in this entire book involves a succubus and princess.

I loved once again traveling along with Waldo Rabbit, the dark mage pretending to be a white mage, on his first quest. His traveling companions are his wife Alice, the succubus, and his servant Gronk, the ogre. On Waldo’s trek, we are once again privy to all the errors he makes and the resulting chaos it causes those around him and those back in his home kingdom. This is the fifth book in the fantasy Waldo Rabbit series. I love that Waldo’s character, despite his unique powers, is still sweet, a bit naive, clumsy, and makes all kinds of mistakes which really makes him a very likeable hero. The tongue in cheek humor of Waldo being forced to do good deeds despite believing his dark and evil, continues to be one of the best parts. The book has the same main characters from the first two books with some new characters added into the mix. The story includes what you’d expect from this genre - fighting, dangerous situations, paranormal creatures, evil masterminds, henchmen, loyal friends and family, tragic back stories, mystical coincidences, snark, and laughs. Like the other books, every time Waldo and his familiars are confronted with a new threat, they manage to overcome it through luck, a new skill/power or a unlikely ally shows up at the last moment. Despite knowing this, it does not change the enjoyment of the story. I will definitely keep reading the series.

A growing harem

I enjoyed reading this book but the story progression felt short and the the books novelty is getting a bit stale. It's still funny but it can be a bit exacerbating at times. Waldo takes a step back from center stage as more global events happen in the book. This and new introduction to his Harem will no doubt make things more interesting in the future. Overall i enjoyed but I was hoping for more. hopefully all this build up will will lead to a satisfying conclusion.

Another great addition to the series.

I hope the author doesn't take some of the reviews too hard. Some of them are shameful and insulting about the length, he doesn't owe us anything.

Would I like them all to be about the length of the first book, sure, but the main thing I'm concerned about is the quality, and in my opinion it hasn't dropped. I'd much rather know I'm in for a quick fun romp than slog my way through 400 pages of rubbish.

Looking forward to seeing what happens to the gang in the next volume.

Very enjoyable read but not enough character development. I really do enjoy the overall story. The characters are likeable and the story is interesting. The main issue is none of the characters have changed from the first book to the fifth. This is having a negative impact on my enjoyment reading the series. The humour is becoming very predictable. I really hope the next book has some character evolution.

I can’t do it, there is just no way someone this repeated stupid can have this many supporters or any exceptions what so ever, I can definitely see the family resemblance with walter. I completely forgot about the grandfather plot line...the tone has also seemly changed. A lot more cruelty and on screen violence then the rest of the series. Thought this was a satire/parody type series, too much casual torture and child murder for that now.

Great book 5

How do you milk venom from a snake when they don't have teats and other questions answered in the 5th book in this series.
Do what ever you can to buy this and all the other volumes by Nelson Chereta Including Dr. Anarchy. Spend your days in bliss reading awesomely written words by this mirthful bard.

There are lots and lots of spellcheck (“fie” instead of “fight” etc.)errors and even a few grammar mistakes. The story is far too short but still a great, fun read.
Waldo finds a dragon, the Dark Mages begin their world conquest, there is a short excursion to “rescue” a kidnapped Princess but sadly, Meredith is absent. Maybe she’ll be in the next book.

Shorter than the rest but better than no Waldo.

I do hope that more of these books are forthcoming. I need my dose of Waldo. There is so little modern fiction that keeps away from modern politics and political correctness. To find an author brave enough to write entertaining fiction without beating a PC drum is amazing.

Not long enough - left me wanting more story - hope for another book soon

I really enjoy this author - the story is unusual and entertaining - his books always leave me looking forward to the next one - I realize that talent needs time to bear fruit, but I find myself impatient to see more of the story. Thank you Mr Chereta!

Yeeeeessss

I'm really. REALLY. GLad the author has not gone FULL harem on this series. The series skirts the edges and pokes fun at the trope, but never does the author force the personalities of the characters to bend to some juvenile fantasy. I had serious doubts about reading this series for that exact reason. It just wouldn't make since for Alice's character to share him willingly. Nor does Waldo's pragmatic nature even allow for an interest of the fantasy. Props to the author for creating the characters, creating the circumstances, and then locking them in a room to see what happens

This book is really short, I wonder if the same energy as book one will be kept.

There were a few smirks during the book, but it was too short.
Our "hero" accomplished what he set out to do at the start of the book, it's just that he didn't accomplish anything else of note. It has me wondering if it's (the story) being stretched out on purpose or mistake....

This one reverted back to the formula that worked in the first book, the story actually progressed, and there were some decent jokes as well as a bit of character growth which to be fair has been a bit lacking in most of the other books, so it was nice to see the characters actually struggle and change because of them.

Great next adventure

The characters are great and the humor is wonderful. Highly recommend. I would say I would like the books to be longer, but it wouldn't matter how long they were I would always want to have more.

Loved this book, a good addition to the series but there was one major problem, it was very short. Ridiculously so.

I couldn't bring myself to rate this less then 4 stars, still love the story but I can understand why someone could rate it much lower.

twisting and turning

I love this series. It’s funny, engaging, terrifying, heartwarming and in an odd way, very philosophically interesting. This one esepecially was full of unexpected plot twists.

Too short

Still love this series but it felt more like a chapter than a full book. Love the dragon and how evil the mother is but felt a bit rushed and as I said more a chapter than the full book.

Still amusing but getting old

I still enjoy the humor, and the banter of the main cast. However, it is getting old. I hope the next installment will try to mix things up or add something to the formula.

Another good one

A great continuation of the story. If you liked the other books you'll like this one. My only complaint was that the book was to short. Hopefully the next book doesn't take too long to come out.

Great read

The plot continued forward without slowing down, the character interactions were amusing, and the only complaint is that it was too short, which I would make regardless since I like this series. Recommended for fans of fantasy and slight whimsy.

This book was a quick read because I just couldn’t put it down! I love this series and am already impatiently waiting for the next one. I love the dynamic of the characters and I love the perceptions and how things aren’t always what they seem. Amazing.

Amazing book! Definitely one of the best books in the series. Though I was sad Melissa didn’t get any screen time as she’s my favourite character. Even without her presence, it’s easily a 5 star book.

I really love this series even if it does remind me that I still have the sense of humor of a teenager. The characters are very likable and underneath all of the humor is a surprisingly well developed story. I hope more installments come soon.
