THE SKY STRETCHED OUT BEFORE ME is a fascinating collection of autobiographical essays from noted astrologer and writer Ray Grasse. Drawing on episodes from the author’s life, it presents an exploration of consciousness and the nature of reality, touching on such wide-ranging subjects as synchronicity, symbolism, mythology, Fortean phenomena, and the arts. Also included are discussions of the author’s experiences in Egypt, the American Southwest, and studies under teachers in the Kriya Yoga and Zen traditions.

Grasse's journey of remarkable experiences sparkles. Road trips with a side of self-discovery, interludes in a Zen monastery, experiences of "high strangeness - all provide rich opportunities to join the author in contemplating the meaning in the mysteries of our lives. I particularly enjoyed this book for its cultural familiarity as I too grew up in the Midwest during these years. Grasse's unaffected storytelling brings the reader along for the ride, inviting interpretation of many "portals of strangeness." The book concludes with the chronicle of an archaeological expedition in the Giza Plateau that will delight anyone interested in Egyptology. Very enjoyable read!
