My First Book About Ramadan is a colorful and beautifully illustrated board book for young children. It is a great introductory book and explains Ramadan very well so children ages 4-7 would understand. In this book, the author mentions the basics of Ramadan, that there are some people who do not have to fast, examples of good deeds, and about laylatul qadr. The author and illustrator did a great job in my opinion of making a book about Ramadan that Muslim and non Muslim parents, educators, and children will love to read and share with their family and friends to learn and talk about this special month in Islam.

With a sheet of stickers tucked in the front and colorful scenes on every page, this board book provides a simple introduction to Ramadan. Not only does it explain how its beginning and ending vary according to the moon, but the book explains the importance of fasting to Muslims as well as how this is a time during which good deeds and generosity toward others are especially valued. It's worth noting that not everyone is required to fast; thus, young children and the elderly don't fast; nor does anyone who is ill. Although the book makes it clear that the month ends with feasts and celebrations on Eid al-Fitr, it also firmly reminds readers that kindness and sharing are the focus of this special time. Those who are unfamiliar with Ramadan and the practice of fasting can learn quite a lot from this little book, which could be useful in refuting many misconceptions and assumptions about Muslims and this particular time.

Another lovely board book from this author.

Lovely illustrations, language used is pitched at toddlers and infants.

A good versatile read to introduce little ones to Ramadhan, or to use as a recap on Ramadhan for slightly older children.
