What's important is our story, our whole story, including those moments when we feel a little vulnerable . . .

Michelle Robinson started life sharing a bedroom with her older brother Craig, in their family's upstairs apartment in her great-aunt's house. Her parents, Fraser and Marian, poured their love and energy into their children. She would go on to become Michelle Obama

I had a bit of trouble staying interested in the parts before the Obamas started election campaigns, though those first 140 pages or so had some poignant moments. Once the timeline reached the mid-90s, though, I read the last 260 pages in just two days. Michelle Obama’s firsthand accounts being First Lady and feeling the real effects of politics’ uglier aspects (and being a parent in the midst of it all) we’re more than a little thought-provoking.

I haven’t read the original “adult” version of t

This book is 400 pages long and I am a slooooooow reader... and yet I polished it off in less than three days. I wondered whether some of the political stuff might prove to be too boring and off-putting, but it would seem Michelle Obama is not a fan of politics herself and so she somehow managed to make it less tedious than it must be in reality!!

Brought up on the southside of Chicago in a poor, but loving and supportive family, Michelle was always driven to succeed. I imagine in real life she w

If some of you here know Becoming by Michelle Obama has been my favorite reads of all time as well as my favorite memoir.

The book not only has the power for you to think and endure yourself into her writing, but also it made me fall in love with non-fiction works all over again.

This brand new adaption for Young Readers of Becoming consists of the same rhythm, enthusiasm, and inspirations words from Michelle Obama herself as did her original book.

Additional, to savour and keep the Young Readers e

Link to my book talk:

I first read Becoming two years ago when I was eight. However, my mom only let me read a small part about Mrs. Michelle Obama's childhood at that time. I was so excited when I heard about the Young Readers version! It is as amazing as I expected. Thank you Mrs. Michelle Obama for sharing her journey and for being an inspiring role model for all of us, especially someone like me, a girl of color. I took away so many precious lessons- do not let o

This book is amazing! As someone who doesn’t cry much at all, I was moved to tears reading about certain things, and there were plenty of chuckles too.
I feel inspired and empowered, and she uses so many wonderful phrases that I see implementing into my life.
I loved having an insight into her earlier life, as well as her time at the White House. I’ve always loved Michelle without really knowing much detail about her life.
I would definitely recommend this book, as I think we all have something to

Michelle Obama is one of my favourite ladies of all time! She is honest and real. Though I read her autobiography when it was first released, it was refreshing to read her wise words again in this slightly condensed format. Her insights into her own world, and her own choices, provide me with some ideas for my own introspection into my own life.

Thank you @puffinbooksaus and @penguinteenaus for gifting me this copy to read and review!

I could feel the excitement for a young readers edition of Michelle Obama’s memoir from my nieces. I look forward to talking to them about it. I enjoyed the voice, the simplicity and clarity of the storytelling. Sometimes, ordinary people can be extraordinary and share their perseverance and challenges in a genuine way. I find it nice to just admire someone. I look forward to what the next generation thinks.

My favourite quote from Becoming by Michelle Obama: the whole book. No seriously the whole book deserves to be a quote. Michelle Obama's story is just so inspirational I can't even. I mean, she fought for Black rights as well as women's rights and helped America so much. It's strange to believe even she started off with a normal life. Michelle Obama for president! Well, she did write that she wasn't a fan of politics in her book so maybe not but she is truly the dream president. ...more

I actually loved this book. Michelle Obama was very relatable, and as she wrote, you felt her emotions, related to her struggles at times, and understood the ones you didn’t relate to. It was a very encouraging book to read as I head into finals, and it opened my eyes to biographies which I actually enjoy reading.

I am booktalking this beautiful memoir of Michelle Obama's life before and during her time as First Lady and it's hard not to be effusive about this beautifully written, honest, accessible book. There are tons of pictures and the chapters are 10-15 pages long, which is important for young readers of nonfiction. Awesome. ...more

Read this along with one of my readers and I have to say, I was surprised that this was adapted for younger readers because I didn’t find that it was a particularly easy to read.
Younger readers makes me think around 10 or so but this is a much harder reader BUT a very good one.

I’m a HUGE fan of Michelle Obama so loved hearing about her experiences and perceptions.

I really like Michelle Obama but her life's been pretty humdrum and doesn't exactly make for an exciting thriller-type read. Still, I appreciate what she's trying to do here and if she'd waited until she was an old lady to write her autobiography, I would likely have found it enthralling. ...more
