The Complete Long Distance Runner's Manual

Rate this book
Both absolute beginners and experienced long-distance runners will find advice and information to improve their performance in this brand-new book. Six graded training schedules take runners from a beginner's regimen all the way to marathon-level competition, and individual runners can start with the program that best suits their skill level. Each program presents specific schedules designed to build runners' fitness and endurance levels, lose unnecessary weight, and improve general well-being. Authors Sean Fishpool and Sean Keogh include important advice about running shoes, with information on available types and tips on making the right choices to suit individual runners' styles and habits. Also important is the book's advice on eating and drinking before and after a run--and during a long-distance run. Detailed charts will help runners gauge their weekly progress at refresher level, intermediate level, and marathon level. More than 150 color photos, charts, and illustrations.

Fairly basic content but very pretty book. I did, however, learn some new ways to calculate my daily caloric needs and working heart rate - so from that viewpoint, it was well worth getting out from the library. Also, sone of the training programmes looked interesting and possibly worth trying.

A really good book, fast read, but the half marathon training schedule I chose from it was CRAZY!
