The Elemental Boxset has the first three books in the Recurve, Breakwater, and Firestorm PLUS the novella "Peta" PLUS the original version of Recurve that has never before been published. “If you like iron-willed heroines, forces of nature, and rooting for the underdog, then you’ll love Shannon Mayer’s enthralling tale!” "My name is Larkspur, and I am an Elemental."
RECURVE Her magic is weak. Her ruling stepmother hates her. And now she’s her people’s only hope. Frustrated by her pathetically useless powers, Larkspur can only dream of being accepted by true elementals. And as the bastard daughter of the king, she lives under the constant wrath of his jealous wife. When she’s falsely accused of attacking the cruel woman, she must choose between military service or banishment… and both lead to certain death. Seizing her slim chance for survival, Lark embarks on training as a soldier for the unforgiving kingdom. But though she excels in her new role, it may not be enough to stay safe from a queen out for her blood. Will she bow under pressure, or unlock the power to vanquish the vicious tyrant? BREAKWATER My people use the power of the earth to sustain life and defy our enemies. I should be at my father's side as a royal princess. But as a half-breed, bastard child, that isn't going to happen. As an Ender, one of my father’s Elite guards, it’s my job to do as I’m told. When my older sister is sent as an ambassador to the realm of the water elementals--the Deep--I have no choice but to accompany her as her bodyguard. With the death of the water elemental's King, a deadly battle for the throne begins; a battle we are forced to choose sides in. There are only a few things I know for sure. The ocean may be beautiful, but lurking in its depths are monsters to fear, the water I tread is teeming with danger and I am on my own. With no one to help and no one to trust, I have to find a way to keep my sister safe and stop a civil war. But the secrets within the Deep are far darker than any of us realized. Welcome . . . welcome to the Deep.
FIRESTORM In a world of lava and fire, I am about to face my hardest trial yet. Not one of strength, or power, but intrigue and manipulation. However, my tolerance level for anyone outside of my family is at an all-time low, and the queen who rules the Pit expects complete obedience. As Ash’s life is held in the balance, I have just three days to prove his innocence and mine. This place holds more than a scorching heat; new foes, traitors, and creatures from the depths of the lava are all trying to keep us from surviving. The only question left. . . Can I get us all out without being burned alive? Welcome to the Pit. Set Don’t miss the rest of The Elemental (Completed series!)
A long time ago, in a galaxy far away, I was born into a family of Star Wars nuts. I have a lot of siblings (somewhere I lost count but I think there was more than could be numbered on one hand) and being one of the young padawans I was subjected to Star Wars marathons, on a regular basis. If you've read any of my books you'll see there is often a reference to said movies as a small homage to my upbringing. May the force be with you and all that jazz.
I started writing when I realized I didn't want to grow up not believing in magic, or not believing in creatures everyone else said didn't exist. That being said, I have never seen a fairy, unicorn or dragon. I had a neighbour who swore they fed the leprechauns in their garden, but I never caught the little buggers no matter how long I lay in wait. (And consequently had to help the neighbours plant new flowers to replace those I killed waiting for the leprechauns to show their faces.)
Along the way, I found my husband who is the rock that keeps me from floating away into my dreams, and we have a little boy who is the centre of our world. Living on a farm keeps us busy (as if the writing wasn't enough) and I have more than my share of stories about wrestling with cows, helping birth calves and ending up in the creek during the process, falling in the mud (we'll call it mud but we all know that on a farm, mud is rarely mud) and chasing escaped livestock in the hopes the four legged convicts don't make it to the highway.
I've taken up archery, and the goal is to move into horseback archery in time (you know, when I can hit the target on a consistent basis) and when no one is looking, I love to bake (this doesn't happen often as it's hard to keep the sweet treats in stock with two boys in the house.)
As to what's coming next for me? More stories (since those never stop inside my head, I might as well share them with all of you!) and more adventures. Pretty much, when the fancy strikes, I'll jump on it. Leap before you look I'm sure that motto was created for me.
Or was that . . . think big and dream bigger, ready, set, pull the trigger . . . yeah. That one is a good one too. But only if you have a gun. And are hunting elephants. Which is not cool because of so many reasons. Let's stick with the first one with an addendum.
Leap before you look and let your dreams carry you on their wings. And that, my friends, is me in a nutshell.
Rylee Adamson was a fantastic series and so I was hoping this would be good too. Larkspur is a great character that you are behind 100%. It is an intriguing, suspenseful, and mysterious thriller filled with tension. The story includes alliances, threats, betrayal, riddles, and plots, all infused with a touch of humour to keep the pages turning. Shannon weaves a tangled web that leaves you in need of more.
I absolutely loved this series and am currently reading it for a second time. It’s so convenient to have it in a box set that I now own both the individual books and the combined.
If you get this boxed set, do yourself a favor and don't read the FINAL one, the "original" story called "Recurve". I had already read Book 1, " Recurve", quite a while back. So, naturally, I skipped that book and went to the second book--thinking that the plot and characters would come back to me as I read. And it did.
I enjoyed Larkspur's journey and tribulations inside the other Elemental provinces. I enjoyed the supporting characters. The World building, as well, is something that this author never has trouble accomp!ishing. But then, at the end, I made the mistake of reading the original version of Book 1. That "Recurve" made my head ache, because that Larkspur had a different personal life and different circumstances. (Her Father, though, is still an idiot). That previously unpublished original version reminded me of a fact I'd forgotten regarding this Author from reading her other series---she has a bad habit of killing off characters. Reading that original made me feel as if there are two different Larkspurs. And two different Petas. Confusing. Wish I hadn't read it.
Be aware that this boxed set is not a complete series. At this time, there are no other boxed sets, so I guess I'll have to get the rest of the series by individual books.
I read the entire series these books lead into. I over looked all the grammatical errors and story parts I didn’t like in hopes that I would find a great ending. I was sadly disappointed in the end. Yes balance is found and the world between good and evil has been restored but all the sacrifices and lost people end up seemingly to have done it for nothing. The major story lines end in a way that left me angry! Nobody really got what they deserved nor found real happiness. Maybe that was what Mayer’s point is but in a fantasy novel people don’t want that, they want the good guys to win and the fated loves to find each other and live happily forever after! Lastly we are once again left hanging with no sight of future books coming to end the story. Whether they come or not I will not read another Shannon Mayer book again!
I love this new boxset that the author has provided!! It includes the first three books, including Peta’s novella and the original version of Recurve. What a bonus!! Larkspur has suffered a lot in her young life. What I love about her is that she is a very strong female character. She is strong willed, and to those who are loyal to her, Larkspur loves and defends them. The world building is phenomenal and I loved getting lost in the elemental world. I truly enjoyed reading the OG version of Recurve. I found it very interesting in seeing how the author brought the story to life as she grew as a writer. If you enjoy reading a binge worthy fantasy series, with world-building, and fast paced then consider picking this series up.
I am a big fan of Shannon Mayer and have read a dozen or so of her books. I read book one of this series and had to stop there. The only thing I liked about the book were the characters; the storyline had me hesitating each time I turned the page to find something else in the action I didn't care for. Even for a fantasy book, and I like the genre, the action, the actions of the characters, and the magic were so unbelievable as to be ridiculous. Then too, there is a plague told in lurid detail that was enough to leave me gagging. I will continue reading Shannon Mayer, you should too, but start with something along the lines of her Rylee Adamson series, or for the more mature crowd, the Midlife Crisis series.
That was one hell of a nail biting (figuratively) adventure! The first three books in the series, plus Peta’s book, AND the original version of Recurve. This box set is seriously bada**. I really loved getting to read the original. I thought it would be mostly the same but with a few changes here and there, but it is truly its own story. I am grateful for the chance to have read yet another excellent book that lead to a fantastic series.
Omg, I love this series!! Ok so Lark is an elemental, and the kings illegitimate daughter. As an innocent child she's playing a game of hide and seek with her best friend when all of a sudden she hears her mother screaming for her to run! Things are never the same again after the events that unfold that day! Its such a great story with some incredible characters and fantastic world building ~ a must read for all!!
I enjoyed the series, and will continue on to the next book in the series. What I didn't enjoy was having ~20% of the boxset being the original version of the first story. I didn't read it, and the author won't get credit from Amazon for read pages. Books I enjoy, I will re-read, and I may re-read this series -at some time in the future. I'm not in the habit of finishing a book, closing it, and starting again from the beginning.
While I very much enjoy all of her books I think I actually like her original unedited version of the first book better. I’d love to see where that story line was headed. I like her unedited writing better. There’s more of the author in it. I would suggest reading that version after the series is finished tho. Now it will be hard to remember what is that version and what is the series. They are quite different versions.
Lark is boss! I can’t emphasize that enough. She undergoes such an incredible development of character, it’s simply admirable. Considering how hard fate tries to take her down, most would simply give up. But she finds strength at rock bottom and soul crushing friendship and love. Hence. She is boss!
This was truly a wonderful story and I'm looking forward to reading more 😃. Lots of different characters, intense situations, family that isn't and fantastically homicidal bad people 😲. It's definitely a awesome box set 😉. Thanks so much Shannon, I can't wait to read more 🤓.
Greatly enjoyed this series especially the bonus book on the evolution and process of developing a series, the plot changes, reinvention of characters, the backstory look into the families, the history and mythology, and interactions of elementals, supernaturals, humans, and others etc.
I absolutely love Lark and the world this author has created. So unique and engrossing. If you want an urban fantasy with magic, amazing world building and a kick butt heroine this is the series for you.
I absolutely loved the Rylee series and this was a great side story to it. I love how Shannon Mayer makes these bad ass women. Larkspurs journey is difficult but she has so many fun friends to keep her sane. Peta is a favorite.
This is a wonderful fun and exciting read! Great box set to get you started on a fabulous journey in a world of strong powerful characters. I highly recommend this series.
I love reading complete series in a boxset. This also have views from Lark's familiar cat Peta. She got her own book. This is so interesting as in Lark visited other regions and learned more about each area. We also learned a lot more about Lark and her powers.
This is one of my all time favourite series. Action and adventure all over the place but it also gives you the feels. If you haven’t read this series what are you waiting for? You definitely will not be able to put it down! Happy reading!
Must read all in order for best results. Good action. Lots if twists. Last book didn't really go with others. Seems like there us mire to story. Series not really finished. Want more
The world building is so good, it feels like a real place. Good, strong characters that are not always loyal. Lark often doesn't know who to trust. Peta is a complicated cat with understandable trust issues. Really engrossing, PG read.
It kept my interest and I could not put it down . The story of good and evil and good winning. It also shows how much all humans have to fight to be good and see good in others
This is a really good book by a very talented writer. The storyline kept me on my toes. I can't wait for the next book by this author. She is a very good and original storyteller! You won't be disappointed at all.
Love this set. However, wished the book Peta was replaced with what happened around the time of (Spoiler alert) falling g in life e, marriage, and baby. Also, last book did not flow with previous books. I had to rethink the players.
